FOX Orders The Grinder & Rosewood to Series + First Look Photos
8 May 2015
Rosewood The GrinderPress Release to Follow
The Grinder
In The Grinder, Rob Lowe stars as beloved TV lawyer Dean Sanderson (aka “The Grinder”), with Fred Savage starring as his brother, Stewart. When his long-running hit series comes to an end, he finds himself at a crossroads in life and decides to move back to his small home town thinking he has the experience to take over his family’s law firm. Mary Elizabeth Ellis, William Devane and Hana Hayes co-star.
Rosewood
Rosewood, a close-ended procedural written by Todd Harthan and directed by Richard Shepard, tested well, with high marks for star Chestnut. The project centers around the brilliant Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, Jr. (Chestnut), the top private pathologist in all of Miami, a character that was conceived as African American. As owner of one of the most sophisticated, state-of-the-art independent labs in the country, he finds the secrets in bodies that others usually miss. Despite being constantly surrounded by death Rosewood is obsessed with life and savors every moment. His eternal optimism will frustrate the cynical female detective he often works with, but she can’t argue with the results that his unique perspective provides. Jaina Lee Ortiz, Gabrielle Dennis, Anna Konkle and Maggie Elizabeth Jones co-star. Harthan executive produces with Temple Hill Entertainment’s Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen as well as Shepard.
Rosewood is definitely a pass for me. Seems like another boring procedural cop show
ReplyDeleteThey will put Rosewood after Empire for sure but I don't care about it for now. I will probably give Grinder a try.
ReplyDeletePass on both for me.
ReplyDeleteRosewood isn't my cup of tea. Pass
ReplyDeleteGrinder I'll watch for Rob
Late!
ReplyDeleteStill waiting for cancellations and renewals.
ReplyDeleteAnyone watching TV now?
ReplyDeleteI really can't imagine any scenario where Rosewood does well. If they try to put it after Empire, it will likely be an epic disaster in retention. It's worse than Backstrom, and that's saying something.
ReplyDeleteThe Grinder was also one of FOX's weaker comedy pilots in contention. If these are representative of what FOX is going to bring to series, they are going to be in for a tough season ahead.
The Grinder looks awesome. I'm a huge fan of Rob Lowe.
ReplyDeleteI wanted Studio City
ReplyDeleteSo did I :(
ReplyDelete100% agr3ed
ReplyDeleteWhat are their descriptions ?
ReplyDeleteI'm re-watching Desperate Hosuewives right now :P
ReplyDelete... actually, it's a medical drama. But, point stands... it is the worst of all of FOX's potential series pick-ups.
ReplyDeleteHappy Endings as background noise, I just can't stop pressing F5 here!
ReplyDeleteThe Grind(e)r: Another show with an awful title.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I've been waiting on the most too...
ReplyDeleteFOX wanted to go mostly procedurials this year.
ReplyDeleteBoth were on my radar so YAY!
ReplyDeleteyeah, it's so weird. Who names these shows?
ReplyDeleteMedical examiner in Miami, which could be an interesting angle, if the script wasn't so cliche. I'm already seeing the reviews now for Rosewood.
ReplyDelete... which would be narrow minded thinking. Put the over the top drama (Empire) with the over the top sci-fi (Lucifer). But, you are correct... it will be Empire and Rosewood.
ReplyDeleteThe Grinder - Legal family comedy starring Rob Lowe
ReplyDeleteRosewood - Medical drama
The shows are very compatible /sarcasm
ReplyDeleteRosewood sounds absolutely awful. Bright side: Something I don't have to worry about.
ReplyDeleteHoping for Lucifer!
I am watching the West Coast Version of the Undateable live episode, since I loved the episode so much in the original version and it works as background for the context of refreshing all the time lol. This episode is completely hilarious though, one of the funniest episodes of any comedy I've been seeing, I've been laughing out loud so much.
ReplyDeleteKeeping Up With The Kardashians as background noise.
ReplyDelete:)
Yay!! So happy to see Natalie Morales back on TV.
ReplyDeleteReally? Undateable never came across to me as funny, but to be fair I have never gave it a chance
ReplyDeleteThe best match is still Studio City and Empire.
ReplyDeleteWith that out of contention, good luck. Nothing fits with Empire. Lucifer really should go with Gotham, but if Minority Report is there, I don't see another great match.
zzz
ReplyDeleteI love how detailed those descriptions are
ReplyDeleteIt's more police procedural than over the top. Kind of like a serious Bones.
ReplyDeleteWhen will FOX quit with these character driven shows?
ReplyDeleteDanny imitating a Silverback Gorilla had me in stitches. Couldn't stop laughing. Chris d'elia is so good at physical comedy.
ReplyDeleteMeh, FOX ordered the pilots I'm not intended to watch.
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't pick Lucifer or Grandpa. Cooper Barrett please.
I can see Minority Report leading off Tuesdays if FOX is confident.
ReplyDeleteGotham/Lucifer and Empire/Rosewood seem like the standard combos
TVD
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean? Character are what drives interesting and engaging shows.
ReplyDeleteI am actually hoping Grandpa is picked up because of Josh Peck.
ReplyDeleteAre those procedurals?
ReplyDeleteApparently never.
ReplyDeleteAnd Rosewood tested well, if this goes after Empire and it's a mix of House + Grey's, another broad procedural will be a hit. But this looks a lot like a CBS show.
Lucifer has gained a lot of steam, so it seems it'll go to series
ReplyDeleteI marathoned the entire first season during one night in Christmas break and it has improved a lot this season. It is not major art and it should never be in contention for major awards or anything but they are quite funny to me and the cast has palpable chemistry. They don't try to be too smart or anything, but they are just fun while being bland. I always have a good, harmless time watching it. This live episode is by far their best one though lol, it is rare for a show to make me laugh this much.
ReplyDeleteIf you are not aware, FOX has been trying to get a successful character driven for a while after House ended and have failed every time.
ReplyDeleteRosewood yes. The Grinder is a comedy.
ReplyDeleteWhen you find a way to replace Dana and Gary. That is all they want on roster, character driven dramas, as they feel that "attracts" itself best to an audience.
ReplyDeleteCome on, Fox. Lucifer and Grandpa/Grandfathered/WhatevertheJohnStamosThingIsCalled.
ReplyDeleteWe'll wait and see.
ReplyDeleteI a indifferent on Lucifer and Grandpa, but I would like Cooper Barret too.
ReplyDeleteTuesdays will be Scream Queens almost for sure.
ReplyDeleteTurns out Scream Queens will be FOX's most original product, despite being from Ryan Murphy, which guarantees it'll be a two season wonder.
ReplyDeleteHe means that FOX is trying to push a character to drive the show while all the suporting characters are mere side dish that don't get that much developed.
ReplyDeleteOn House, Gregory House drives the show, while on some other shows the ensemblance carry the show.
That is a character driven show, a show that leans on a sole character to make it work
Won't it be anthology though? That's what has been saving AHS I think.
ReplyDeleteI forgot about that. The Minority Report may go to Thursdays and be paired off with Sleepy Hollow, at least I think that would be the smart play
ReplyDeleteYeah, if you don't like the characters, you won't be into the show.
ReplyDeleteIt's also not only that, it's the fact that the main plot on the show is the character itself and its struggles as opposed to some theme. It can only work when the character itself really is brilliant (House) but that is the exception, not the rule
ReplyDeleteIt is, but being an anthologhy didn't stop AHS from dropping from seasons 2 to three, at least in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteEdited. I was planning on editing them.
ReplyDeleteThe script reads a lot like the Finder/Backstrom/Bones. It's a comedic drama that shifts in and out of being serious. But it's not really a character piece, it's not over the topic, it's a basic procedural that attempts to have light moments but takes itself way too seriously in the end.
ReplyDeleteTrue, thanks for expanding the explanation! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a fan of character driven show, even House I couldn't get into, so I'm usually unimpressed with FOX's pilots.
This year Minority Report is my only interest, and maaaaybe Lucifer, but I'll have to wait and see
I know, I just couldn't helpt it. The joke was right there xD
ReplyDeleteI'm willing to see Minority Report, but it is going to be something I'll say: "I've already seen it before" at some point.
ReplyDeleteEspecially with Person of Interest still airing.
I will watch Scream Queens and Minority Report for sure! Lucifer and Frankenstein we'll have to see, depends a lot on trailers and all that! But I am quite excited for Scream Queens and Minority Report!
ReplyDeleteI think I'll pass on these. Maybe check out The Grinder for Rob Lowe, but FOX's comedies and random dramas like these have a small expiry date (if the past has thought us anything).
ReplyDeleteLucifer and Frankenstein please
ReplyDeleteWonder if we will get anything else for the night
ReplyDeleteOh I agree with that, Season 2 will forever be the best thing ever from that show imo, I loved that season so much. But I don't think it has been a gradual decline like that. I would say Season 2> Season 4 > Season 1 > Season 3. So I don't find a trend in there. And this is pretty subjective, other people will rank it differently, whereas if you look into other Murphy shows the declining trend is more or less unanimous.
ReplyDeleteWe will.
ReplyDeleteI doubt FOX is through.
ReplyDeleteAnd I still think we will hear from ABC.
So my guess for FOX next fall:
ReplyDeleteMondays:
Gotham
Lucifer (may shift timeslots)
Tuesdays:
Scream Queens
The Grinder
New Girl (maybe another comedy and New Girl goes to Fridays)
Wednesday:
Empire
Rosewood
Thursdays:
Minority Report
Sleepy Hollow
Fridays:
Bones
Worlds Funniest Fails (Or New Girl followed by filler)
Sunday:
Simpsons
New comedy
Family Guy
B99/LMoE
Rosewood will fail harder..
ReplyDeleteI don't know, maybe its me but for some reason Rosewood seems incompatible with Empire, I mean as a viewer I wouldn't watch it after Empire. Maybe Scream Queens...
ReplyDeleteWhat's a close-ended procedural?
ReplyDeleteI think FOX should've picked Studio City and pair it with Empire, but since it is not happening anf Scream Queens will likely lead off Tuesdays, I think that is the choice that is left hanging
ReplyDeleteMy initial impression is pairing up either Frankenstein or Houdini & Doyle with Sleepy Hollow and Gotham with Lucifer.
ReplyDeleteThat leaves a comedy night on Tuesday (if four comedies aren't available, then maybe Minority Report Tuesday at 8 PM (with an odd flow), Empire with something on Wednesdays, and Scream Queens with something on Thursday.
Yeah, thats what I was thinking.
ReplyDeleteSunday
ReplyDelete7:30 Bob's Burgers
8:00 The Simpsons
8:30 Bordertown
9:00 Family Guy
9:30 Brooklyn 99
Monday
8:00 Gotham
9:00 Minirity Report
Tuesday
8:00 Grandpa
8:30 The Grinder
9:00 Last Man on Earth
9:30 New Girl
Wednesday
8:00 Empire
9:00 Rosewood
Thursday
8:00 Master Chef Jr.
9:00 Scream Queens
Friday
8:00 Bones (unless it's cancelled) Lucifer (If Bones is cancelled)
9:00 Sleepy Hollow
I believe it means theirs no lingering storylines. Each episode is a 1 and done, allowing new viewers to just tune in and watch.
ReplyDeleteNCIS is considered a close-ended procedural for example.
I think it'll do OK-ish since it'll be following huge hit Empire, but once it is left flying solo it could drop big time
ReplyDeleteTuesdays look far too male skewing for New Girl to be sticked there
ReplyDeleteNew Girl will probably be paired with Cooper Barret.
ReplyDeleteFOX showed interest in that show? Had no idea
ReplyDeleteI will be livid if FOX put Sleepy Hollow (and/or Lucifer) on Fridays. I say Rosewood should go there, and Bones if renewed.
ReplyDeleteEvery article has been saying that it tested really well and it in strong contention. And it looks perfect New Girl companion.
ReplyDeleteI bet FOX wants a comedy expansion but last time they tried, they backfired.
ReplyDeleteScream Queens is good counterprogramming against football, but against Scandal?
Yeah, I agree with you. Sleepy Hollow would be best on Thursdays. Fridays have Grimm and that might not be a good idea.
ReplyDeleteMmmm, I guess if they give it the Scream Queens lead in and New Girl act as its lead out on Tuesdays it may work. That does poses the question of where The Grinder is going to go. Sundays?
ReplyDeleteRosewood reminds me spin off of Bones.. and we know what happening
ReplyDeleteMy guess, and what I would do anyway, is Tuesday winter. Scream Queens is only limited, so they can have it there and also have the male comedies there once it is over.
ReplyDeleteGrinder is a terrible name. Is it a bad sign that I am more excited about Fred Savage being in it than Rob Lowe? William Devane is a plus too.
ReplyDeleteI will check out Rosewood but I have a feeling that I will constantly comparing it to Forever and it won't fare well.
I've been wanting a weekly dose of Morris Chestnut on network TV for years. I finally got my wish.
ReplyDeleteSavage and Devane are why I want to watch it. Not a big Rob Lowe fan.
ReplyDeleteI just want everything all this little by little is killing me
ReplyDeleteFridays seem like an excellent place for Sleepy Hollow given how much the show dropped in one season. Even with new the showrunner, SH has already chased off a good portion of former fans and its unlike that new people will check out a serialized genre show in its 3rd year, even if it does get more serialized.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Hopefully Rosewood is better than it sounds. Seems like a total yawn right now.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. Why would they put a show that flopped and barely got renewed on the highest ad night of the week? Thursday would be the worst place to put SH.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I'm guessing FOX does a full two hour comedy block on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteThats true, I just thought why risk a new show against TGIT etc when Sleepy Hollow might do adequate. But I see you point :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not making final decisions until I see the trailers.
ReplyDeleteYou, Sir, are very wise.
ReplyDeleteThis West Coast Version is much better than the East Coast one, there are huge differences lol. Which one did you watch?
ReplyDeleteYeah, their best bet would be to put something competely opposite to Shondraland on Thursdays.
ReplyDeleteUgh these both sound terrible.
ReplyDeleteAll I can think of when I look at that photo is Dexter. Drag that ocean, Rosewood! You don't know what you'll find down there.
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, do you work in the industry or something? You talked about the script for People Are Talking a while back.
ReplyDeleteThe East Coast one.
ReplyDeleteHuge differences? Like what? I am curious.
It screams "He's not just a doctor, he's a cool doctor! Look at him on this boat, cruising around Miami looking for people to save! No boring white coats here!" Sigh. :)
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, based on the description, maybe its just me but the photo seems so off, like it doesn't fit with it. Maybe a trailer may fix that perception.
ReplyDeleteFOX would have been better of rebroadcasting Miami Vice.
ReplyDeleteOMG why did you have to say that? Now I really want that!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the description is so boring that it's actually difficult to make it through the entire paragraph. A trailer could only make it more exciting at this point.
ReplyDeleteSo do I.
ReplyDeleteYou took the words out of my mouth!
ReplyDeleteNone of these shows Interest me.
ReplyDelete4 main ones:
ReplyDelete- Ed Sheeran kisses Justin full on in the West Coast
- Kate Walsh is on during the West Coast one
- Scot Foley gets Danny on his knees (literally) on the West Coast lol
- The song at the end is totally different, they do Britney Spears, and they have Ed Sheeran, Candice and Brett singing instead.
Same here and it's not just FOX too unfortunately for me.
ReplyDeleteMost likely. I'm hoping there's a central story-- a really good one-- and it's not just a procedural. How much more interesting would this instantly get if Rosewood had murdered someone and was trying to cover it up or something? *laughs*
ReplyDeleteABC has moved and the kingmakers has sadly fallen, as has The Advocates.
ReplyDeleteCBS has awoken. LFE has been passed over, which are probably good news for Code Black
ReplyDeleteNooo! Kingmakers :(
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree. I get a bit tired off the constant covering up of murder.
ReplyDeleteIt was very predictable though :/
ReplyDeleteMe too. I just meant that pretty much any story at this point could make this show sound more exciting.
ReplyDelete:) True. I got what you were saying though.
ReplyDeleteLink?
ReplyDeleteI know, but I still held on hope u.u
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOD ABC RENEWED GALAVANT!
ReplyDeleteDeadline | Fox Picks Up John Stamos Comedy ‘Grandfathered’ & ‘Guide’ To Series http://deadline.com/2015/05/fox-picks-up-john-stamos-comedy-grandfathered-guide-to-series-1201421769/

ReplyDeleteGalavant was renewed!!
ReplyDeleteYOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!
ReplyDeleteSee the tweet below from Dan.
ReplyDeleteWHAT?!
ReplyDeleteSurprise renewal of the season so far!
ReplyDeleteI am quite happy but this is surprising!!!
ReplyDeleteSame here, though I'd say I'm shocked... it started off good, and then the ratings fell apart... maybe ABC wants to try out on Fridays? Or will they use it as filler?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, but either way I'm happy to have it back!
A bit cryptic, but it sounds like it. I am so happy and surprised!!! OMG!!!
ReplyDeleteIf they were happy with the performance of this bridge series... may Agent Carter also have a better shot?
ReplyDeleteIf they renew Galavant and not Agent Carter then ABC has absolutely lost their minds. I love Galavant, but Agent Carter makes a MUCH better and consistent bridge series
ReplyDeleteI think Agent Carter probably depends on whether ABC puts the spin off on the fall schedule or not. If the spin off itself is a bridge I could see why they would let Carter go.
ReplyDeleteYes but if it goes on Friday season three is definitely going to be the last. Why bother to renew it in the first place? I think it will either be paired with Lucifer (if it gets picked up) or The X-Files revival and I don't think either one of those will air on Fridays.
ReplyDeleteForgot about The Grinder. Happy for Rob Lowe! May check it out!!
ReplyDeletePass on both.
ReplyDeleteNeither interest me.
ReplyDeletePass on both. I currently don't have any series on Fox and it looks like that will continue.
ReplyDeletePass.
ReplyDeleteAnd Pass.
That is all.
Eeh... Might check them out.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to Rosewood. I love medical shows obviously because of my love for Greys and ER. Still wish they picked up Studio City.
ReplyDelete
