Forever - Season Finale - Post Mortem

TVLINE | So Adam’s theory was wrong: You actually can’t be killed by the weapon that initially killed you.

That’s correct, that’s correct, yes. We wanted to create this idea of a possible kind of MacGuffin that could end your life… Certainly, we didn’t want the show to turn into Highlander, which is that there is this kind of one knife, or one gun, or something like that that can end your life. For Henry, it’s an existential, ongoing, seasons-long question: Can he end his life, and if so, would he?

TVLINE | Would you have a new big bad come in for Season 2? Would the show maybe not be as mythology-based as it has been this season? What are your plans?

There will certainly be mythology brought into Season 2. How Adam will be utilized is not completely worked out yet, but we certainly feel like there’s more story to tell with Adam. We also want to introduce new characters that add some fresh blood to this world and be able to work in the idea, not only of the mythology, but in the romance of the series and other stories that we want to pursue.

TVLINE | At the very end of the episode, Abe pointedly instructs Henry to tell Jo what’s going on, and then the episode ends. What can you tell me about what might follow?

Obviously, we ended with a little bit of a cliffhanger, in terms of Henry and Jo, and it’s something that we’re interested in pursuing in Season 2. Who will find out Henry’s secret? Will other characters find out? What does that mean for the show? It’s hard to say without giving away any real spoilers about it, but suffice to say, it is something that we have thought about and have a plan.

  1. “We went and pitched our Season 2, what that would be, to ABC,” he tells TVLine. “It went great, and they were really pleased. They’ve been very supportive of the creative of the show all season long. I think it’s going to come down to their pilots, and their schedule, and everything else.”

^ I know these don't usually mean anything, but it is a tad exciting.

  2. It be a surprise for sure, but not holding my breath though.

  3. The Highlander reference is a bit odd.... they could be killed by any weapon or even things that weren't actually weapons, so long as the head is completely removed. I would have like that idea of the one weapon to continue - that Abe had switched out the gun as a precaution without even telling Henry.

  4. That's not certain yet. *fingers crossed*.

  5. I love how positve this interview was, they sound full steam ahead with s2. And on air as well- that ending, though feeling like a finale, was left so open ended with Henry, his secret and his relationship-a perfect way to leave the series with so much more to tell. I love that they are not leaving the air without a fight.
They deserve to win, forever is original and breathtaking at times, it has proven more times than not it deserves an s2.

  7. I know the odds are awful, but I just can't stop hoping for more of this show! I've been trying to keep that hope under control, though - and now reading this interview, Matt Miller sounds so positive and hopeful - my control is slipping! I'll be just gutted if Forever is cancelled. That last scene tonight - or the last few scenes, really - makes me want Season 2 more desperately than ever!

  10. So Matt Miller has never watched Highlander... good to know...
Anyhow, I like that he seems to have a plan for S2 and I get that he wants to sound optimistic, as welcome as a renewal would be, it's most probably not gonna happen.
I get him having a good meeting with ABC, but realistically the show is more or less over. I'm glad he ended it in a way that gave the season closure, and IMO the fact that he did so means he's fully prepared for the show to not come back.
