Cheerleader Death Squad and Dead People - Passed on by CW *Updated*
7 May 2015
Pilot ShowsUpdate: With the three CW pick ups a little while ago, Dead People is officially dead.
Per deadline, Cheerleader Death Squad is dead while Dead People isn't looking good, either
Color me surprised.
ReplyDeleteSo no CBS owned pilot picked up to series this year. How did that happen?
ReplyDeleteHuh? What is the point of ordering pilots if most of them we're passed on? What a waste of money and time.
ReplyDeletenow THIS is a shocker!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that ordering only 2 new shows is a good idea...
ReplyDeleteSeems like i was the only one who wasn't interested in this pilot.Huh.
ReplyDeleteIt was the only pilot on CW I was interested in
ReplyDeleteVery surprising indeed. No new CBS-produced series will be added if Dead People is also dead.
ReplyDeleteSo it seems like only Cordon will be picked up? Bummer. I really wanted this because of March Cherry!
ReplyDeleteI am surprised but it's a smart call. The remaining two would have never likely worked on CW.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Those character descriptions we posted were horrific.
ReplyDelete<strong<NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCordon & Legends(Flarrow spinoff)
ReplyDeleteWatch them pick up none of their pilots
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a weird world where CW is in such good shape it doesn't have room to pick up many pilots.
ReplyDeleteThat's what you get when you renew 9 shows in a 10 hour schedule. CW put themselves in this position.
ReplyDeleteDead People will raise.
ReplyDeleteWho else is refreshing Deadline ever few seconds?
ReplyDeleteCW Picks Up ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ As Hourlong Series, ‘DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow’ & ‘Cordon’
ReplyDeleteDeadline, Spoiler TV, Variety, TVBTN, you name it lol
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that... So they are only going to pick up Cordon and then Legends for mid season? Guess Reign and 100 still have chances for fall or midseason
ReplyDeleteHuh? The CW ordered a Showtime pilot to series?!?
ReplyDeleteThe good news from this is that the 100 just went from being a sure thing for summer to having some sort of shot at a fall slot.
ReplyDeleteGlad they passed on CDS I hope Dead People makes it.
ReplyDeleteMost who are intrigued probably haven't read more than the synopsis. Ouch is the best word I can use to describe it.
ReplyDeleteWhat? is CW gonna fold?
ReplyDeleteActually they still ordered three new series. TVLine says it's some Showtime casualty.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't really interested in it either but wanted to see what it would look like
ReplyDeleteWhat?
ReplyDeleteLegends of Tomorrow, Cordon and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (???) picked up.
ReplyDeleteI hate them righ now .. there goes my most anticipated pilot
ReplyDeleteLegends of Tommorow was a sure thing even before they announced it :D But only one new show in the fall is really not that great for CW, considering that TVD is probably ending next season, and SPN and TO hitting lows this season.
ReplyDeleteIKR?
ReplyDeleteSame.
ReplyDeleteLol what where did that last one come from
ReplyDeleteI only need my twitter feed.
ReplyDeleteI never heard of that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. What is it about?
ReplyDeleteWhat three series? Out office pilots,Dead People isn't looking good and never was for pickup,Talees from the Darkside & Cheerleader Death Squad were passed on so that leaves Cordon & Flarrowspionff

ReplyDeleteSo mad about this!!!!
ReplyDeleteShowtime passed it on a few weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteHere: http://www.spoilertv.com/2015/05/cw-orders-legends-of-tomorrow-cordon.html
ReplyDeleteAs it should of been, this dounded awful.
ReplyDeleteI will be gone for an hour. Hopefully, I won't miss anything...
ReplyDelete...but I know I will.
ReplyDeleteHuh. I was mildly curious about this one, but I'm not devastated or anything that it didn't make the cut.
ReplyDeleteIt sounded terrible then, I can only imagine how bad it will be on CW.
ReplyDeleteFridays is calling!
Way it's always been.
ReplyDeleteOh ... well that's not a good news. One more (Mindy) ...
ReplyDeleteCbS owns Crazy ex-Girlfriend so they pick up a CBzs pilit
ReplyDeleteThis is a bit of a shocker but not as big a shocker as picking up that Showtime pilot. No one saw that coming.
ReplyDeleteWith only three new shows, two for Midseason-Legends & Crazy Ex/-Girlfriend( Deadline says it needs exspensive retooling)maybe Reign stays in regular season?
ReplyDeleteI like Reign but those ratings are outrageous, it deserves Friday or summer
ReplyDeleteWell, it could have been good. But those character descriptions killed all my interest
ReplyDeleteWow! Didn't expect that with CLDS. And I think Bad Robot needs to quit pitching shows to the CW!
ReplyDeleteThe 100 has better chances
ReplyDeleteIm dissapointed in you CW. I really am. I was hoping for CDS to make it.
ReplyDeleteDeadline saying it dosent look good for DP.Cordon,CDS,Legrnds were the only pilots with hype, buzz, traction & a chance at pickup,
ReplyDeleteDead People is from Warner anyhow.
ReplyDeleteI am a bit stunned at this, I was looking forward to it as some trashy fun, Marc Cherry is reliable for that.
ReplyDeleteSo is anyone going to post an article about CW's official pick-ups of Cordon, Legends of Tomorrow, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend?
ReplyDeletehttp://deadline.com/2015/05/crazy-ex-girlfriend-dc-legends-of-tomorrow-cordon-cw-series-1201422393/
The only pilot on CW I really didn't care about, so, you could say I'm happy!
ReplyDeletePosted an hour ago ;)

You have got to be kidding me? You mean to tell me I've been scanning the site for an hour and I completely overlooked the article the whole damn time!? Dang. I'm really off today. Thanks for setting me straight.
ReplyDeleteHa lol. It's a crazy old day !
ReplyDeleteIt would very odd for the CW to launch one new drama in the fall and then 2 midseason. But then again, they've just picked up one showtime pilot, so what do i know?
ReplyDeleteWith it hitting 0.3s? No way.
ReplyDeleteYep, literally no one.
ReplyDeleteWith the only probably open timeslot being Friday, I think Reign has better chances with AnTM. But The100 could do well with LoT for midseason and not summer. But that is all so vague.
ReplyDeleteEspecially as there had been no chatter whatsoever in any industry site that I know of.
ReplyDeleteNot picking CDS is the only good decision made by CW today.
ReplyDeleteA bit sad about Dead People. The show gathered an okay cast. It could've suited the network well.
ReplyDeleteHoping for a better and more intriguing cw pilot year next season.
I've just wondered today about stuff, and wanted to tell I'm really loving how you guys are managing this site! *though it will really take me a lot of time to get used to the new place for the number of comments*
ReplyDeleteSorry about the news.
ReplyDeleteCW shows launch a few weeks later than the other networks in the fall, I think they'll get Crazy Ex Girlfriend ready for Mondays with JtV. Being a Showtime comedy, its pilot will likely be around the 30 minute mark, it only needs to be 40 min for CW so not too much to add.
ReplyDeleteWell, the producers have said multiple times that Legends is set for Midseason and since Czw is retooling Girkfriend, it'll Likley be Midseason too unless they can have it ready for fall
ReplyDeleteHave they aired Reign repeats on Fridays? I think JTV gets a bump in viewers there but not in demo.
ReplyDeleteI missed it too and I've been checking here all day! I just now found it with this post.
ReplyDeleteWell,LoT producers have said its set for Midseason and with Girkfriend needing retooling,it may not be ready for fall
ReplyDeleteYes, Legends is midseason but I wonder if it would really take them that long to get Girlfriend ready for October. Doesn't seem that hard, we're in early May.
ReplyDeleteIdk either. It could be ready by fall.I just want to see Czws 2015-2016 schedule already, sucks to have to wait a week& for abc to renew Nashville
ReplyDeleteSomething will have to replace ANTM and people expected it to move this season but it didn't,people expected it to be cancelled but it wasnt
ReplyDeleteYou should get Nashville news between today and tomorrow, I doubt they force you to wait until next week.
ReplyDeleteI knew Dead People had next to 0 shot of making it to series, but it sounded like a good concept :/
ReplyDeleteI mean we have to wait a week for CWs schedule,I'm so excited & anxious to see it.
ReplyDeleteSo CW is going to only pick up 3? New
ReplyDeleteA bit shocked over Cheerleader Death Squad.
ReplyDeleteNot that surprised for Dead People.
Yeah same... I went from "meh" to "mildy interested" to "this might be fun" the more information we got, but still I wasn't putting my money on a pickup for it.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these shows sounded weird anyways. They didn't sound like they would do good at all.
ReplyDeleteBR likes to work with Warner though doesn't it? I doubt they'll stop pitching to the CW for that reason alone.
ReplyDeletePickup and renewal rush... everyone's overwhelmed with information... it's more than understandable...
ReplyDeleteI wasn't looking forward to Cheerleader Death Squad.
ReplyDeleteYes, They distribute TV through/in association with Warner Bros, but the CW hasn't picked up a single one of his shows (Shelter, Electropolis, Dead People) since the network was actually the WB Network...However CBS actually also co-owns the CW, and Person of Interest is on there, but ironically I think CBS is still in association with Paramount, which is where most Bad Robot films (Mission Impossible Franchise, Super 8, Star Trek, Cloverfield), except for Star Wars, are co-produced.
ReplyDeleteI would get fed up pitching 3 pilots for three years straight and not getting one, but also Bad Robot is currently in their "phase two" stage, having some producers leave (Athena Wickham is joining J. Nolan's Kilter Films) ,while picking up new ones (BBC's Drama Boss en Stephenson) , along with trying out premium cable (Westworld co-production with Nolan's production company for HBO, Roadies for Showtime).
I would get fed up pitching 3 pilots for three years straight and not getting one
ReplyDeleteYeah.... that's not how you do business... not on in TV... rejection is part of the game. Rejection is the biggest part of the game actually.
And I know, I know... you cherish the earth JJ breathes on, but not everything that comes out of his company will be good, or compatible, or producible, or sellable. And until they find the right show to get on the CW they will probably keep pitching there too.
Both sounded terrible.
ReplyDeleteNo as far as I know. Think JTV and iZombie got a couple of reruns there.
ReplyDeleteI know, I was really just joking from the start anyways, hence the tongue smiley! It just is sad that they keep pitching stuff that would probably be better on other networks, like I could of seen Electropolis at FOX and Dead People at either CBS or NBC...
ReplyDeleteBut just as a point of interest, after LOST, they switched distributes (Beana Vista/ Disney to WB) and no longer pitches anything to ABC, and curiously when Abrams pitched LOST to them, is was a non-mythology more procedural-like show...(also, I don't know if getting back in league with Disney will change that, but maybe?)
They seem to pitch to every other network with FOX being their most successful in terms of getting something picked up since LOST (Fringe, Alcatraz, Almost Human) now and I think because of Star Wars, they have the funds to move on from network TV, should they want to.
I remember reading that Abrams even wanted to enlarge and add onto the company, so they could be more actively apart of Star Wars post production process...I don't know if that ever happened, because I think that is when he was fighting for filming it in the US verses UK, but I think their whole goal is get big enough where they can have more creative freedom.
They pitch to Fox because that network has always had a good relationship with Warner, and I see why BR shows get picked up by them. They can match their brand better, and can probably foot the bill for their high concept ideas.
ReplyDeleteBut I get them wanting a show on the CW. Keeping the parent company happy is probably part of the deal. They most likely have a contingency where they have to pitch to the CW anyway.
