Update: 9th May Thanks to KBC1114 and Rash for the heads up.
Castle‘s behind-the-scenes shuffle isn’t over just yet.
Not 24 hours after it was announced that longtime Castle scribe Terence Paul Winter was stepping up as showrunner for the recently ordered Season 8, TVLine has confirmed that Castle alum Alexi Hawley is returning to the ABC drama, as co-showrunner — the same position he just got done filling on Fox’s freshly snuffed The Following.

Attention, Castle fans: Winter is coming.
Longtime Castle scribe Terence Paul Winter has been named the ABC procedural’s new showrunner, TVLine has learned. He will preside over the freshly-ordered eighth season.
After penning a couple of Season 2 episodes, Winter joined the show as a producer in 2011, rose through the ranks, and was promoted to EP in the middle of this season. Episodes he has written include “The Blue Butterfly,” “Veritas” and “Once Upon a Time in the West.”

Update: 8th May Thanks to Elhar for the heads up.
THR has changed the article: deleted the info about the new showrunner and changed the contract negotiation with Stana from done to expected.
The procedural starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic will be back for its eighth season. Fillion inked a new deal to return, and Katic — sources tell THR — is expected to close a new pact as well. Produced in-house by ABC Studios, Castle has been a sturdy performer for ABC on Mondays at 10 p.m. and still pulls 12.7 million viewers on a weekly basis. Rumors about the future of the series have swirled of late, with sources telling THR that the veteran drama from Andrew Marlowe could return for an abbreviated final season. While it's unclear if season eight will be Castle's last one thing is certain: showrunner David Amann, who took over for Marlowe in season seven, has exited.

Thanks to rash for the heads up.
The procedural starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic will be back for its eighth season after the duo both inked new deals to return. While it's unclear if season eight will be Castle's last one thing is certain: showrunner David Amann, who took over for Marlowe in season seven, has exited. Procedural vet Barry Schindel (CAA), who returns to the drama after a brief run in 2009 and whose credits include Numbers, Intelligence, Unforgettable and Law & Order, will replace Amann and take over as show runner.

Oh thank God Stana's back. And I definitely think season eight will be it.
ReplyDeleteYes! Beckett is back! Made my night complete! :D
ReplyDeletethank goodness Stana's returning!!!!! after Nina, Colton and Tyler, i'm glad this show still has all their characters
ReplyDeleteFor a second, I read that as "Stana NOT Returning" and had a little mini-heart attack. It's okay. It started back up again. I'm cool.
ReplyDeleteAnd the universe self correct on Castle
ReplyDeleteI am so worn out that I read Season 8 as Sense 8.
ReplyDeleteI don't think their new deal would be one season. It probably a multiple year deal
ReplyDeleteThere's the bright spot I'm looking for in this evening's flurry of cancellation news. I'm okay if season eight is the last one for Castle, just as long as it goes out on a high note.
ReplyDeleteThank heavens... Now I can really go to bed happy lol
ReplyDeleteBut Marlowe is still around right?
ReplyDeleteAnyhoooooo.... Glad Stana signed on.
That's good news all around. Maybe the new show runner can fix the damage done in S7. I seriously doubt 8 will be last season if Nathan/Stana signed multi-year deals. It's the only ABC procedural that does well in syndication. It's more than just the first run ratings for Castle.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't have minded if Richard Castle himself took on the job as showrunner.
ReplyDeleteEither way, glad Stana is back on board.

ReplyDeleteI'm crying!!!!
Best not try to introduce new mythology and not deliver, they should stick to what they are good at.
ReplyDeletePhew... I was afraid that they were going to try to do a final season of Castle without Beckett. It would have been like watching the final season of Scrubs again... painful to watch but you watch it anyway because for some reason we all stop and look at the accident on the side of the road.
ReplyDeleteThat said, the show is pretty much run it's course. The major questions have been answered, the wedding has happened, and everyone surrounding Caskett have pretty much resolved their own thing. Do a final wrap up where Beckett resolves her future prospects, bring back Castle's dad for a final CIA episode, and end on a good note.
Yea, totally agree. I'm just glad we get a final season! Maybe I'll finally catch up on the last 5 episodes.
ReplyDeleteMy day couldn't start better. So happy they worked it out.
ReplyDeleteWho the hell is Barry Schnidel?
ReplyDeleteSorry to rain the parade, but THR just edited the article. Deleted the part about the new showrunner and changed Stana's part to "expected to close a new pact as well".
ReplyDeleteSo nothing is sure yet, only that ABC has confirmed that they count with the show.
*relieved sigh*
ReplyDeleteReally really happy that Stana Katic (Beckett) will be back next season. Best news ever!!! The show wouldn't have been the same without her.
I don't want season 8 to be the last season
ReplyDeleteExactly, lol . Never heard of him,
ReplyDeleteFinally!!! i´m so happy,Stana and Nathan are back, now the Universe have sense. Nobody says is a final season keep the faith for more and more Castle.
ReplyDeleteThere is a mistake here I think. THR reports Stana's deal is not closed yet.
ReplyDeleteActually he has been an Executive Producer back in season 1 of Castle and wrote two epis...I didn't know that before either but looked him up on imdb...he wrote the epis "Nanny McDead" and "A Death in the Family", both pretty awesome epis so if he is the new showrunner I'm excited about it! He's familiar with the show and maybe he brings back fresh eyes and a bit of the season1/season2 feeling! I'm just glad Castle got renewed for one more season, everything else will sort itself out with time!
ReplyDeleteIt feels like I've been waiting 10 years to know the answer to this question that's been on my mind for a while. So glad that Stana's not leaving the show and is getting a new conrtract.
ReplyDeleteHuh? Please don't tell me I did my little happy dance too early ;-) But it sounds like Stana's coming back so that's good enough for me right now. Maybe she's till on her honeymoon...
ReplyDeleteNothing is for sure until ABC confirms the new showrunner and if Stana is returning.
ReplyDeleteSo looks like THR jumped the gun earlier.
ReplyDeleteAre the 2 leads both in for S8?
ReplyDeleteKnow Castle is coming back, but so many rumors. One says for 24 episodes & another for shortened series final. Know many want seasons 8, 9 & 10. Wouldn't mind that as I like the dynamics of the show & the humor. I just enjoy the show for what it is, but you can't please all the people all the time. There is no such thing as perfect all the time!
ReplyDeleteThe high note has to be " US " PEOPLE. I too believe Season 8 will be the end. Let's go out on high !!!
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard anything about multi-year signings. Conflicting reports as to full season or shortened series finale or multi seasons. Wish they'd make up their minds or wait until they know all the details.
ReplyDeleteHa! I thought I was losing my mind when I saw the new title.... A bit bummed things aren't as finalized as they seemed yesterday.
ReplyDeleteStill, it's looking good.
Didn't like the PI idea in season 7. Was happy to see that go away.
ReplyDeleteThe Blue Butterfly and Veritas were two of the best episodes of the series so I think this is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteWell he sounds like a good candidate...
ReplyDeleteThey could have used a younger co-star. The cast has aged visibly over the years and that's reflected in the program's declining demo. A familiar younger face like Deborah Ann Woll or Britt Robertson would have fit in well.
ReplyDeleteOh TG it is Terence Winter. He will do very well. Now we just need Stana 😊
ReplyDeleteI knew she would come back. I didn't really think Castle would go on without her. Good day for Castle fans
ReplyDeleteWoohooo my Monday nights just wouldn't be the same
ReplyDeleteIf I had to make a list of my favorite hour long TV episodes, "The Blue Butterfly" would be on it. it is my favorite episode of "Castle."
ReplyDeleteStana hasn't signed a contract yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's gonna be a full Season or a 13 episodes final Season? Perhaps Stana doesn't want to do another 23 episodes...
ReplyDeleteI think a good send off would be a 6 episodes serialized mistery. I would love that.
I like that idea. Enough time to wrap up a well written story without dragging it out to much and give us some final insight into the characters lives and where they are headed. Sometimes I find final seasons that are 20 plus episodes are to much time for a show wrap up and they drag plots out way longer then necessary. Or add in to many plots that make you just think, "ugh this is show seems like it is taking forever to wind down. Is it over yet?".
