Update 2:
Scheduling update for Canadian #Beasties: Season 3 of Beauty and the Beast will premiere Sunday, June 7 on Showcase #BATB
— Showcase (@showcasedotca) May 13, 2015
Update 1:
Showcase has now removed the air date from their website. They have yet to confirm if this is just a mistake or if the show has been delayed in Canada as well.
Original Post:
Showcase has updated their website with the schedule for the first episode of the new season of Beauty And The Beast. It appears the episodes will air as planned and will not be pushed back closer to the American air date.
So it will be several days ahead??
ReplyDeletes ,4 weeks before
ReplyDeleteYep, 4 days ahead.
ReplyDeleteSo May 17 in canada and June 11 in the US?
ReplyDeleteI guess they want it to hit 0.0 in ratings then
ReplyDeleteSometimes I feel like networks don't really understand how easy it is to get their TV shows off the internet. Air it even a day early somewhere else, and everyone can watch it regardless of their location.
ReplyDeleteSomeone who knows what they're doing can watch a live stream of of it, or just download it entirely. It's stupidly easy. Then those people have no real reasons to watch it when it airs in their country.
I don't know why this flies over the heads of so many networks.
Canada will be 4 weeks ahead. Possibly 5 weeks if the World Dog Awards repeat still airs on The CW on July 2nd.
ReplyDeletei think showcase has some sorta deal with cbs studios to air early before cw. (reign, batb)
ReplyDeletecan u make any sense why showcase is doing this?
ReplyDeleteThis is the stupidest of stupid decisions. Sometimes I think they actually want this show to bomb in the ratings... they sure seem to be doing everything in their power to make sure it happens. :-/
ReplyDeleteanother million dollar qn this show has given
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. The best theory I saw on twitter was that the CW wants a string of original programming. BATB eventually being replaced by another show in September rather then a month of reruns before new programming begins.
ReplyDeleteI've also seen some suggest that The CW may no longer own BATB (it was originally a co-production I believe) and are just airing it out of contractual obligation rather then because they care.
The theory of them not wanting it to air in may sweeps can't be right because May Sweeps finishes on May 20, the day before BATB was originally set to begin. So it was already completely out of sweeps.
And it can't be that theirs a problem with the production/editing or Showcase would have pushed it back for Canada too.
if the ratings mattered with this show it would have been cancelled ages ago. They obviously dont relay on its pitiful ad revenue as its only/biggest source of income. Airing it in other countries before hand isnt going to make any difference to its already poor ratings anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'm still a fan of the show but it seems unrealistic to expect new viewers or better ratings in US even without the Canadian premiere. After two full seasons it's pretty safe to assume that people already made up their minds if they will/won’t watch this show . There’s a reason why it has been thrown into summer exile and I don’t think is because of Showcase.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that is exactly what they are aiming for? Beasties are well know for their social online fighting stamina.
ReplyDeleteI think if CW cared about live ratings then a) they would not have renewed it and b) would not have pushed to summer.
ReplyDeleteSomething else is going on with BATB. I really don't think they care about the live ratings for this show
This show has never been renewed due to ratings. It is surviving due to online precense and fighting spirit of us Beasties.
ReplyDeleteUS isn't the only player in this game.....
ReplyDeleteDarkUFO
ReplyDeleteif ratings had any interest here, would we even had had s2?
Who knows :)
ReplyDeleteI think they make the majority of their money of licensing deals, online streaming, digital purchases, etc, which would make some more sense in how they renew shows. BatB must be making significant money elsewhere because it really doesn't seem like CW cares at all about the ratings it's getting. Unless it's huge in L3 but I am so apathetic about that show I don't feel like trying to figure out what those numbers are, ha.
ReplyDeleteSupposedly it makes a lot of money through pre-selling the show. It's been hinted that the show was originally licensed for 3 seasons.
ReplyDeleteyessssssssssss
ReplyDeleteRatings matter, they just don't seem to apply to this particular show in this particular network. Also, truth is, better ratings wouldn't hurt either, and this is as stupid as it gets. I honestly believe last season the rating suffered because it aired before in Canada, now a whole month? That's... that's plain stupid, there's no other word for it, there's a lot of people that could've tuned in, that now won't even bother... it's sad how little the network care about this show...
ReplyDeleteThe upside of it being a Canadian co-production I guess...
ReplyDeleteIf what I was told here was true, and it is a Canadian co-production (which means the Showcase actually shoulders some of the production expenses), then if it is in fact making it's money on this side of the border it might be why the show keeps getting renewed...
ReplyDeleteIf they do, that should mean they are in fact co-producing the show. (kinda like ABC and CTW do with Rookie Blue. I wasn't aware of this. Someone mentioned it to be a few weeks ago...)
ReplyDeleteThat would explain why they can chose to air it whenever they want in Canada.
And this is where we have a problem. At least on my turf, the channel carrying BATB has since discontinued airing commercials for the upcoming season (new episodes in the Philippines air 5 days after the US).
ReplyDeleteCBS through its distribution arm licenses the show overseas so it still has a controlling stake in the show.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that the ratings aren't important anymore. Anyway, I think a lack of respect from CW with fans on these changes calendar after several days of the first announced date.
ReplyDeleteAt this point it's fair to say that that U.S. viewers have no influence of the CBS/CW decision to keep BATB in production. The show can't even achieve respectable cable ratings in the states. The program only continues to exists because it earns respectable licensing revenue primarily in Europe. That's reflected in the ongoing pointless and tragic ritual in which adolescent European girls waste hundreds of hours each year obsessively voting for the program on the Peoples' Choice Awards website.
ReplyDeleteI see Showcase removed the BATB premier date of May 17 now, maybe also postponing?
ReplyDeleteIrene, I have to ask: Do you have a life outside of Beauty and the Beast? I'm curious because your name keeps appearing on various online entertainment websites I visit even though I'm not looking for information about that program or you. This has been going on for several years and always in connection with Beauty and the Beast.
ReplyDeleteThat makes much more sense.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know does canada have better ratins then usa on batb ?
ReplyDeleteBeing on a cable channel, viewing figures are probably lower than what the average show gets on terrestrial Canadian TV.
ReplyDeleteOh didnt know they had it on cable thanksss
ReplyDeleteYeah Rookie Blue is owned by Global Tv & ABC bought the rights to air it in the US.
ReplyDeleteBatb is filmed in Toronto as do alot of shows but it's possible it's a CW/showcase co-production. Not sure though.
I know Rookie Blue is a co-production. (not only is it a co-production the show is set very much in Toronto and they don't shy away from it)
ReplyDeleteWhat I meant is that I didn't think BatB was a co-production but someone here mentioned it is recently.
There were a lot of requests from fandom to delayed airing closer to US airing. Don't know the directive, but Showcase is known for being VERY accommodating to it's viewers, and preemption a show is not a costly costly maneuver.
ReplyDeleteAs a Canadian who watches the show, I agree 3 weeks diff. would have inundated Showcase's site with streaming overload
No air date for Canada has been delayed also
ReplyDeleteIf true, this works great for everyone. Can't wait, I love this show, but I also want what's best for it.
ReplyDeleteAnd delaying CAD air date is the best all around
Canada air date has also been delayed to accommodate
ReplyDeleteCanada air date has also been delayed
ReplyDeleteCanada air date has also been delayed. The pirating would've been awful, Almost 4 weeks apart. So Showcase in Canada has done the same. I love this show
