"Rapid" changes?! they're kidding right, because 2 years of fighting to even stay together, Vincent losing his memory AND himself to his Beast side to finally having a normal life is definitely not rapid. They were barely together so it's definitely too rapid, there's side-effects to what brought JT back? I didn't expect that, more of was afraid that could happen.
ReplyDeleteI just binged watched the 1st 2 seasons of the show, wow this is one show that hasn't been given enough credit.
ReplyDeleteI love that everything they've had to overcome, every bad hand they have been dealt (esp vincent) has only made them stronger as a couple. I'm so happy the writers aren't afraid to show us how happy they make each other - even at the worst of times little looks, hand holding, and kissing gives them the strength to move on no matter how bad it gets. Even while they were broken up we still got to see them motivating each other. Of course they will fight, have to be on the run at some point, and their life will be on the line every 5 minutes, it would be boring otherwise. But I'm optimistic this season we'll get to see the reward of all they've overcome, it looks like they will develop even further in more realistic and human ways. That to me is one of the biggest achievements on the show, bringing in realism to a fairytale, not an easy task.
Wow a newbie Beastie, welcome, LOL. How did you feel about Vincent when he lost himself to his Beast side?
ReplyDeleteAfter the triangles & pentagons of last season I thought we were over the fairytale and the epic love stuff .
ReplyDeleteI don't want to start nit-picking on S3 writers because I feel they are running on fumes with VinCat relationship , but they both looked pretty confortable living with other partners in S2.
It's a wait and see situation but I can't stop but laugh at the idea that Vincent will spend the new season being blamed for not being enough "beast" . Poor Vinny.
Thanks Ivan! I'm so new to batb I just found out we were called beasties yesterday ;)
ReplyDeleteI understand and accepted why they had to bring him down after all he had been through, and I found him entertaining. I also think it they brought him back to his human side way too fast, it just seemed really unrealistic-though i was relieved in some ways, because, well, I missed the Vincent i fell in love with in s1.
I only started hating the storyline in episode 8, the infamous shooting for 2 reasons and neither because i hated the new character. First, the most obvious is I hated the thought of vincat not having scenes together, though i knew it was going to happen, but by s12 I was plesently surprised that although they weren't together, they still kept up a relationship. Second, i was really annoyed with cat and I think she got off way too easy. It's easy to say vin explored his dark side, but I think she got just as dark at the same time as him, trigger happy and way too judgemental. Where was the person that accepted v, even at his worst? Was trying to kill someone who did such horrible things to him so bad it warrented shooting him? Why did she have to side with this dad she barely knew? And why did she hate him so much for trying so hard to get the necklace when she didn't know the entire story of why he needed it?
Sorry for the long answer...
I feel horrible for jt after reading this, at the same time I'm excited. The thought that there might be a role reversal between Vincent and jt is really intriguing, where a pretty together Vincent will get a chance to help and protect jt in the same way jt helped Vincent all those years. Their friendship is so important to the show, I'll love seeing them work as a team again, and see how far vin will do for jt. Another conversation like the one from 2.12 please!
ReplyDeleteHey Debbie welcome, welcome we need more and more People to get on this wonderful ride, didn't take you long at all to grasp the awesomeness that is Beauty and the Beast, the third season looks to be even more magical, Welcome again new Beastie!!!!
ReplyDeleteFun name huh? LOL, it's okay it's nice to hear what a new fan thinks about the show. Sorry but i was actually one of the ones that actually hated Vincent until we got him back, and don't hate me for this but i actually started shipping Gabe and Catherine after we lost Vincent for a while. Catherine though, that's a toughie because on one hand i get your side but on the other hand if Vincent would've killed him it would've been a straight cold-blooded murder and you know Vincent is not a cold-blooded murderer. So i don't think it was Catherine taking Reynolds' side as much as her trying to save Vincent from himself, which he didn't and let his Beast take him over and lost Catherine for a while. To a guy for as much as i hate to say it, was the better man until he too decide to re-Beast himself and destroy Catherine's life. Sorry for MY long rant. LOL
ReplyDeleteI wasn't around at that point, do you think vinnys dark side contributed to the of viewers downfall of viewership and ratings? I've been writing about other shows for far too long, my unpopular views make me wish I was here while the show was on the air ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't think our views on vin and cat are as out there different as you think. I hated v when he almost killed reynold, I dreaded watching the 2 episodes after that because I had no interest in seeing vins dark path. At the same time, I think they could have made him so much worse. the writers made sure we knew at every turn that vin was still there, there was still some good left in him...for example, he still felt the need to help protect a new beast and knew the difference between right and wrong. He absolutely has to take responsibility for his own actions, But I also couldn't forget that he never had complete control. Being around another beast brought physical changes to him that were out of his control, that brought out his beast, I don't think he figured out how much until much later. And being brainwashed for so many months, thanks to Reynold, of course his first instinct was to kill, it takes a long time to get that out of your system.
Obviously his big downturn was killing Reynold, absolutely he changed, because I agree, that would have made him a murderer, which up until that point he was not. Tori's dad was killed to protect tori, cat overreacted because maybe he did it in a way that was more violent, but in my opinion, does it really matter how you kill someone, only why? And him as an assassin, again not good or fun but 100% out of his control. So yes, killing Reynold I agree would have changed him-although even that wouldn't have made him completely evil-his motives were not just out of revenge, but to protect himself and others. the only thing that ever could have stopped Reynold completely was killing him.
in some ways cats motives for shooting vincent were catlike-unselfish with a need to save Vincent, I don't blame her. but she took it too far. She risked killing him to save him, if her only intention was to save why not just wound him, shoot him in the foot so there is no risk of death? Part of her actions were no doubt out of anger, possibly even obligation to her father, not just loyalty to Vincent. Any road that Vincent would have taken after that, they were done long before that and it wasn't just Vincent. Like I said, she too was becoming darker, angrier because of all she went through, she needed time to find herself again...and not with gabe! Never liked gabe, always knew he would end up being the bad guy again. Yes, he tried to redeem himself, but not for himself, it was always because of his interest in cat. Anyone who tries to redeem themselves for someone else...
Thanks! Just wish there were more of us!
ReplyDeleteEverything is a matter of perspective but when it comes to judging Vincent people seems to have double standards. The poor guy was kidnapped, brainwashed, tested and manipulated as a lab-rat , shot few times , caged and abused by almost every human and sub-human he met in his life even by those pretending to be friends or love him . He was acting like an animal but even in his darkest days he was the one saving everybody's life . On the opposite I've got the impression that Catherine spent most of S2 onto a pedestal looking down on Vincent with sort of moralistic attitude , judging who’s worth living and who’s not , what’s good , what’s bad , not too bothered by the number of people she killed in cold blood and some of them were "victims" as much as Vincent. It was awful writing but I was annoyed by how many times she was ready to sacrifice Vincent on the altar of her questionable sense of justice and whenever it was convenient to her and the coward she quickly fall in love with right after shooting at Vincent . The whole arc was completely bonkers .Nothing good or interesting came from this dumb storytelling except causing major damages to Catherine character rebooted into a wishy washy and erratic chick constantly wrapped around Gabe’s finger letting him dictate every word, every step, every thought , every action . Her character, and the actress, deserved better treatment and I'm not sure the new showrunner will. Sometimes you have to wonder if the female characters are so poorly written just because they are women.
ReplyDelete100% agree, I found both Tess and cat all over the place last season. Unlike in s1, cat was extremely Judgy towards Vincent, a lot of the time for little reason- not to mention hypocritical. She used just as much violence as he did, yet v never once looked down on her. I lost a lot of respect for her when v wanted to save a life and be "human", just like she wanted from him for months, yet all she wanted from him was to take care of a new beast. And Tess was all over the place, one minute she hugging Vincent, the next she's thinking about turning him into the police. Is she a strong independent officer or a fan girl that can't wait to for her birthday party and be surrounded by friends? Not to mention, i don't find cat and Tess to have a lot of on screen chemistry together, vin and jt are much stronger. My hope is the female character will regain what they lost in s2, go back to the caring women we knew in s1.,
ReplyDeleteWell said, you voiced how I felt doing this entire arc, so happy that part of the journey is over and done, with Cat and Vincent being redeemed, I agree that was bad writing now were back on track with the magic of season one!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I think exactly as you for each word. I said this many times for others fans And They Told Me que I'm totally in defense of Vincent - of course, after all he passed. For me, the writers Were more coherent with Vincent's script. I also not liked of the Cat's attitudes, mainly about her relationship with Gabe (no sense). She didn't look the same Cat of S01.
ReplyDeleteWould someone please explain to me how Cat forgot in Ep.2/S2 -Kidnapped- that she and Vincent actually had photos together at her father's wedding??
ReplyDeleteWow good argument BUT mentioning that OTHER Beast, she made Vincent more Beast-like not more human. You're right about Reynolds, even from prison he was still a threat. Huh you're right, when Vincent was reprogrammed he lost his accelerated healing which i'm wondering why they decided to make him weaker in that aspect. So if she shot closer she could've killed the love of her life, when you put "catlike" i thought you meant literal cat LOL. I don't it was the ratings, the new showrunner Kern had this plan all along, to separate Vincent an Catherine so they could EARN their love.
ReplyDeleteI have NEVER. ONCE liked Tess actually, it didn't help that she was part of a married man's affair but even before i still didn't like her. If i had it my way the cast would only be Catherine, Vincent, JT and Heather.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you asking that? Is that question from Season 1?
ReplyDeleteI hope so
ReplyDeleteI think she got rid of them, because Vincent panicked because he thought Murfield would trace them back to Heather, JT wiped them from the hard drive, and V told Cat to get rid of the proofs and any remaining copies, that's what I remember...
ReplyDeleteI know right they really made a mess of that, I kinda agree with you on some parts about Tess, when she wasn't being so wishy washy encouraging Cat to get with Gabe she actually was a good friend to Cat, but she drove me crazy being Gabe's big cheerleader yuck, acting like a school girl, he likes you you should get with him, God I'm glad that's over I couldn't stand that Tess, she was so judgmental and as you said she was carrying on with a married man, that writing was all over the place, I hope they're going to fix the mess they made, but it did get better after they put our Vincat back!!!!:)
ReplyDeleteThey made her lose herself, during that dark period they showed her becoming Gabe's puppet she didn't even think for herself, she was not the confident self assured woman she always was, in a sense just like V had to find himself, she had to come back from that dark place she was in, she went through a lot just like Vincent, they sure earned they're love from what Kern put them and us through!!
ReplyDeleteYeah Vincat better be the first priority from now on
ReplyDeleteYou know i've always stopped seeing a show until my ship is back together but with this show i didn't and it's weird. It was probably the way they made me hate Vincent that i could get through watching it even if my ship was separated. Fringe i was on the verge of because of the whole Fauxlivia DISASTER.
ReplyDeleteThe 2 biggest mysteries of s2. What did they do to Vincent while kidnapped, not to mention how or why? We can only speculate because we haven't been given all facts. The lack of healing I got, made him more vulnerable to his owners, more controllable and a victim to his owners, and makes him easy to be killed-it was obvious vincent was always the last beast on their list. Giving him a tracking ability was ingenious for an assassin. The scar was slightly puzzling, maybe to make him stand out less in the outside world?
ReplyDeleteThe other big mystery is what Cat wanted from Vincent. I knew the "OTHER" beast line made him more of a beast in her mind, but that always had negative connotation attached to his. Until they reunited, maybe even after, it was pretty cut and dry for her - human side represented good, beast side represented vicious. Yet she was the one who often put him in situations where he was forced to use his vicious beastly side. Thank you for JT who was the voice of reason - putting him down as the other beast doesn't have to be a bad thing. He doesn't have to use his beastly side simply as an attacher, but as someone who has abilities and does use his abilities for good, like helping new beasts find their way instead of killing them, or using physical strength to get people out of dangerous situations, instead of violence.
Don't like Tess, I agree, like I said I think she's too all over the place. Heather also bothers me. I still think of her as the annoying little sister who doesn't have the smarts to be taken seriously at any moment. Maybe this year she'll have a bit more of a hero role?
ReplyDeleteOH holy COW!!! Muirfield taking his accelerated healing to make him easier to kill makes SO much sense with how you explained it. Um by OTHER Beast i meant Tori (UGH!!!) LOL, she made him embrace his Beast when the Vincent we knew and loved HATES being a Beast.
ReplyDeleteWith Heather i'm biased since she's Nicole Gale Anderson so i can never hate her LOL
ReplyDeleteTo be honest Ivan I was really pulling for JT and Sara they had more chemistry, with Tess it fells forced I guess by putting him with Tess she'd get more time as a part of the team...
ReplyDeleteWow, you and I have a lot in common with our ships, I felt the same way with the so called Fauxlivia, I was tempted to
ReplyDeleteStop watching fringe cause of that but I couldn't, not one time however did I think of walking away from Vincat, we no they're always the end game, as a poster already said they made sure we knew V was still inside of the dark V, that was such a ruff time for fans, I can't say it enough, I'm glad that part is over, and Vincat is back on track:)
Yep same here, i really, really, REALLY HATE Tess!!! phew sorry got a little off handle there LOL.
ReplyDeleteCool heh, and yeah but even knowing that this is the one of the ships that i didn't have to worry about (Peter and Olivia, Chuck and Sarah included in not worrying) i still had that feeling. Yeah we went through hell for months but now we can relax and enjoy our ship the way we were supposed to. It wasn't just Fauxlivia remember, we also had to got through that Lincoln stage before Olivia got her memories back.
ReplyDeleteOoh yeah, damn you're a Chuck and Sarah fan too, you are after my own heart my goodness were definetly own the same ships:)
ReplyDeleteLOL that's really cool, yeah the Chuck and Sarah ship was actually when i found what "shipping" a couple actually meant. I mean i shipped couples before but i never actually knew what"shipping" was, so i didn't know that i was a shipper ha!
ReplyDeleteOh tori - I cringe when i think of him and tori as a couple (does she not look 14 years old!) thank goodness they spared us the romantic scenes. Or is it just that I shipped vincat so much? But I do love what Tori represented to the show, someone to finally say that being a beast is not all bad (until JT made a much better argument for it later on in the season), I just think they took her character a bit too far. If only Tori would have taught vincent to embrace his beast side by being able to save people and not have to use excessive force\murder to do it, she would have been the perfect voice of reason. Oh, and being allergic to her, how being around her had a negative affect on him was a good idea, but a bit too easy of an excuse for some of more lost moments.Loved that she convinced him to come out of hiding!
ReplyDeleteWait you think she was GOOD for the show? whoa never heard that before, i actually didn't like when Vincent went public. It made him a target when Gabe went full-on villain again
ReplyDeleteI felt JT was more convincing in the Beauty role and much more instrumental in helping Vincent find his way back than Cat ever was.
ReplyDeleteIn S1 it wasn't difficult to believe she really loved and accepted all of Vincent but she didn't fully convince me in S2. Too many times I felt Vincent was forced to deny his Beast side in order to please a reluctant Catherine when most of the time she was using his other side for her benefit anyway. The main issue is that most of the season has been so heavily focused on the everending Gabe's arc that there was no redemption chance for our Beauty till the last part of the season. Too little, too late. While Vincent at least had sort of personal journey to re-discover who he was, who he loved, make amends for his own mistakes , they did nothing for Catherine whose journey was badly rushed .Unfortunately the storyline defines the audience's perception of characters and , in my opinion, Catherine was a hugh step back from S1 .Btw Vincent and JT have the best dialogues . Some of them were pretty remarkable last season.
AMP in s1 . LOL
ReplyDeleteHot Head in S2 . Best episode for me
Wow you have to be first to say that Tori was good for ANYTHING, it's REALLY weird because like you said she was basically the main reason for us losing Vincent for a long time.
ReplyDeleteWhich, as much as I hated all of this, lead to Vincent's redemption and vincat eventually becoming much stronger than they ever were, having the anti view is not always a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, and here I thought I was crazy for thinking exactly the same things. Vincent and cat both went through a dark path. Except in Vincent's case, they took a lot of time and effort to make sure we knew he was being redeemed. And he was never cold towards cat, even before his memories returned. Why doesn't cat ever get the same negative reaction, why didn't she need redemption? Rarely did she ever admit to making mistakes too. She fought for v in s1, s2 she decided he wasn't good enough?
ReplyDeleteThat talk between jt and vin after tori died was prob the best scene of the season!
Wow it must be, because i don't see her as being anything but bad. But nice point of view.
ReplyDeleteUm Vincent WAS cold towards Catherine, do you remember the gem hunt search at the event? "Don't get in my way Catherine!"
ReplyDeleteIn S1-Ep14, just after V. kills Darius, who was about to shoot Heather, we see Cat looking at actual photos from her father's wedding. I am just bringing this up now because it is one more reminder of the mess the writers did with S2 and the whole Cat/Gabe arc. I still believe this show has great potential with the magic Vin/Cat chemistry but we need to see more convincing plots in S3 and more screen time with Tess and JT.
ReplyDeleteSorry LESS time with Tess
ReplyDeleteOh, I couldn't agree more with you Sarab that writing was all over the place, Catherine with her select amnesia, how quickly did they let her and Tess forget all the pure hell Gabe put us all through that arc made me cringe everytime I watched it, after all the evil Gabe did he just couldn't do know wrong compared to V, Cat didn't remotely look like herself, I get where you're coming from for sure, cause I'm right there with you, the decision by Kern to switch things up backfired, with season three he says he's not going to mess with the formula that made us fall for this show, fingers crossed:)
ReplyDeleteDon't remind me of that episode please!!!! That was the only episode I considered stopping watching the show.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I'd call that cold or just a need for survival. In his mind at the time, he was desperate to get at his own personal krytonite and didn't have time to be polite to anyone getting in his way. But Ok, if you want to call that cold, I can think of 3 exceptions, 3 times he was slightly cold to Cat. twice after she shot him and once when he lost control at the end of s2 and had no memory of her. Given the situation, he should have been 100 times worse. She on the other hand was cold to him at one point in almost every episode until 2.17, and all of her memories were completely in tact. I can think of 10 episodes where she over reacted and looked at him like he was the devil whether he deserved it or not. "I will never hurt you again" - why didn't she say it back to him?
Because in his case he could kill her
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right if all that comment referred to was losing control with her and hurting her in the process as at the end of "kidnapping", but I have a feeling there was more to it-the months of everything they went through.
ReplyDeleteAll my griping on cat is sort of pointless now because I do like the cat she eventually developed into by the end of the season. they are now both 2 people that deserve Eachother.
"Destined love" did you like that? Also did you like Kristin and Jay's portrayals of Rebecca and Alistair?
ReplyDeleteRebecca and alister - not just like loved! I thought it would be corny but it ended up being brilliant. I loved that they used this past experience figure out a way to learn from their mistakes, using them an example of what not to do instead of following them blindly. One of the best eps to date.
ReplyDelete"Destined love" I didn't go as crazy about if as I thought, it was simply a direct reference/ confirmation of what cat said in 2.01. I did like how normal couple they looked.
You?
Yeah same here, but i still find it SO weird seeing Vincent out in public LOL
ReplyDeleteI think he's so used to being on the run, he acts pretty similar in public or out on the run-with a few exceptions, he didn't seem all that stressed while running, so I didnt find the last scene all that weird.
ReplyDeleteNo i meant weird for ME LOL, because i'm so used to him being in a dark environment and using burner phones and stuff. So seeing him out in public with other people around him being relaxed on a bench without seeing over his shoulder is a very strange thing to see. I still love that funny scene with him jumping from Catherine's apartment and jumping back up right away when she was late and later her dropping his bag.
ReplyDeleteDid you see that Vincat sneak peek?!
ReplyDeleteI did - it was cute but we've scene much better scenes than that. I can't figure out if it's spoiling something on Heather and the fiance, or just giving us something to look forward to, all the hints of the VinCat future.
ReplyDeleteSome good episodes written by Roger: 1x15 Any Means Possible; 1x21 Date Night; 2x22 Déjà Vu :)
ReplyDelete
