  1. NBC are doing an experiment, they are releasing the entire season online but they will still be airing it weekly in its normal Thursday night slit.

  2. It got only 1.0 for it's premiere. It's going to hit 0.4/0.5 by the time season finale air.

  3. Probably! But its a summer show so I imagine they will keep airing it and who knows maybe it will be a hit via their streaming site (I doubt it but you never know)

  4. The reviews are mostly negative.Everyone is says Claire Holt is completely miscast as the female cop,she looks completely out of her element here.Surprising!

  9. I'm just looking at the last episode now - partially through it - ( skipping the others) - and so far it looks like the series does not go up to the main murder spree - maybe that was saved for a second season but I doubt that will happen.

  10. I watched the 2-hour premiere and I actually liked a number of the performances. Despite that I could not really into it. Maybe the music turned me off? Maybe the 60's culture turned me off? Whatever it was I doubt I will watch more episodes.

That bad, ha? I have to say I would've casted her as someones wife, given the time period, but as a cop? Nope. It's not fair to type-cast her, but I can't picture her a cop... maybe as a lawyer or PI.

  12. Yea would be surprised if it goes another but stranger things and all that. I hope it does not go into that as for me it has been done to a degree that not sure if they would do it as it should be done IMO that is. I may have a go at it though if I get bored enough :-)

  13. This show is a co-production with ITV. It's a summer series and I don't think the ratings really matter that much. These shows that are international co-productions are saving a network like NBC a lot of money. Not surprised the demo was low, Duchovny is well known, but isn't exactly a draw for younger viewers. I'm guessing most under-30 never watched him in his prime on The X-Files when it aired live.

  14. I'm about to start my marathon. If anyone remembers the movie Helter Skelter, is the show like the movie at all or is it more fictionalized?

  15. More fictionalized

  16. Manson's story is no where near up to the more famous main events and plot lines for the other main characters pretty much go out on serious cliffhangers - they were setting up for a second season. Do not want to be more specific because some people get upset if you give details about endings. The show was conceived to be ongoing.

  17. I've watched episodes 3, 4, and 5 and it gets better. The pace picks up a bit, the acting gets better. I wasn't planning on binge watching but what the hell right lol

  18. I've watched episodes 1-8, and I can say with absolute certainty that I'm far more interested in Sam and Brian's lives/cases, and in Charmaine's attempts to break through the '60's glass ceiling than anything having to do with Manson and his crazy world.

  19. for some reason it did not feel like a procedural when I was watching, if only because they were mostly focused on Emma and Manson.

  20. I enjoyed the premiere so I ended up being sucked in and I have already watched the first 5 episodes. I think it is great. There are a few things I would change here and there, but I still enjoy it. However, I never felt so much that a show didn't belong on broadcast like this one. This show was begging for premium cable freedom. Language, sex, violence, the whole thing. It would really add to the experience here. Shame it ended up on NBC.

But I still like it and I am looking forward to see where this goes. Grey Damon is a revelation for me, he is awesome and steals his scenes. David is also amazing per usual, really strong.

  21. SPOILERS. The only part I didn't like was the Manson stuff. I wish it wasn't a focus. It shouldn't be, as it's been done so many times before and done better. There was a fear around them that could have been captured, or have a case bump up against the Manson family, without giving a 'fictional account' that seems phoney to someone who lived during those times. The LAPD of the late 60's, racism, anti culture, Vietnam War, politics, assassinations, are enough of a backdrop to tell good stories about the detectives and their cases. Those relationships seemed honest, well acted.

  22. Well isn't this a Live Discussion, so fans can talk freely though?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah Grey Damon's a great actor

  24. The following is for ivan only so do not read if you do not want to know what happens in the last episode . Manson's story only goes up to April, 1968 ( the infamous Tate murders were not until August, 1969) when one of his girls, Mary, gives birth to his son Valentine, except they change the story to have the baby die and another of the girls kidnaps a replacement baby from a hospital- none of which has any truth to it ( except for Valentine's being born) as far as I know - the show runners have always said that there are many fictional elements and plots and characters in the show. David D.'s character and Emma's mother re-hookup and his son is arrested for desertion. Duchovny is in deep trouble with IA because of his actions on another case and Charmaine ( the female policewoman) has apparently been kidnapped by Manson's scary male henchman and enforcer because she was caught by him snooping ( remember he had already met her when she was at the party undercover). And Emma's father and his business partner come to a violent crossroads after we find out what really happened in the past with them and one of Manson's girls ( we hear the shot but do not know the outcome).

  25. So I just finished the whole thing. I am shocked with myself because I wasn't even anticipating this show much and I was pretty meh when I started watching the pilot yesterday but I ended up getting sucked in by the show. I really loved it. It's weird because I can tell it is not a perfect show but it kept my interest so freaking much all the time. I highly recommend it. It is a very different show and it portrays a number of quite relevant topics imo. Also, the acting from David Duchovny and Grey Damn (in what is a breakout performance) is amazing and I adore their partnership. I am a bit bummed that it ended on cliffhanger though. Seriously hope this fall into that "cheap co production thing" that can make NBC bring it back for next summer. Or some cable outlet pick it up since this show is 100000% made for cable anyway. A very good experience.

Well, I just finished watching and it was ok, nothing spectacular and I won't be sad if it doesn't come back, but it wasn't bad. For those who watch for Claire Holt though, it's quite a dissapointment since she's nothing more than a glorified recurring character. I liked what Duchovny did with his character and Michaela Mcnanus was annoyingly well in her's (annoyingly because it rang very true for a polititians wife at the time, to hide her head in the sand). I love Grey Damon's performance as the progressive one, with the coloured wife and baby (bold for the time). I didn't get Manson's appeal, but they showed well how he took advantage of fragile minds. And the reveal with Kern at the end, was quite a suprise, I thought he was a spineless idiot, but he's as much a psicopath as he's buddy Manson, although I can understand how he's protecting his way of life and future.
All in all, I liked it.
