Agents of SHIELD Spinoff - Not Going Forward At ABC

May 8, 2015

I hear ABC and Marvel have put the breaks on the proposed Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff. The project was supposed to be set up by events from this season of S.H.I.E.L.D. and toplined by Season 2 cast additions Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood, revolving around their characters Lance Hunter and Barbara “Bobbi” Morse aka Mockingbird. ABC and Marvel had no comment. The project had been developed quietly by S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeffrey Bell and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski.

  1. Nooooooooooooooooooo. I was really looking forward to this.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Well that's very disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Eh. This is fine with me. I like both characters well enough but not so much that I wanted an entire show just about them.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Awww damn but it was either this or Agent Carter so I'm glad ABC made the right choice. At least Bobbi and Lance won't leave!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Here's why Agent Carter didn't get cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm actually kinda fine with this. They can keep the characters on the main show and we get "Agent Carter" too. Win win.

    ReplyDelete
  7. There's that other Marvel project from John Ridley though...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Now that's surprising. But I guess this is why we have Agent Carter so I'm fine with it since I have no attachment to the spin off

    ReplyDelete
  9. I was looking forward to it but hey they can stay on the main show besides we have Agent Carter

    ReplyDelete
  10. YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!

Bobbi and Hunter aren't leaving. I was so heartbroken when they announced the cast for the possible spinoff. It makes sense to renew Carter anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I was intrigued by the initial announcement but the idea of three spy shows in the MCU was far too much.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh wow, I did not expect this. ABC justs keeps pulling shocker after shocker.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Okay, then I am ecstatic about this

    ReplyDelete
  14. 3 shockers:
    1-Galavant renewal
    2-American Crime renewal
    3-AoS spin off dropped

    Semi shock: Agent Carter renewed

    ReplyDelete
  15. DC/WB blowing out Marvel TV.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well atleast we'll getting Agent Carter back. Still don't know the status on that mystery Marvel show with John Ridley,

    ReplyDelete
  17. Blame Carter for this xD

    ReplyDelete
  18. Marvel has Daredevil though.

    ReplyDelete
  19. DareDevil> Anything DC has done

    ReplyDelete
  20. I rather have Carter since it has already developed. This spin off never saw the light of day, so I would take Carter any day ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Huh surprisingly okay with this.

    ReplyDelete
  22. GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bobbi and Hunter are my favorite new characters on the show and I was highly aggravated to hear they could get their own show, they belong on AoS which that cast.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Daredevil is definitely the best. It's not even close.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I find the Agent Carter renewal more shocking than Agents of SHIELD spinoff dropoff.

    ReplyDelete
  25. As long as Bobbi and Hunter stay on AoS, I'm good with this, especially if that's why we got to keep Agent Carter. I really didn't want to lose Agent Carter.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think I like the idea of Bobbi and Hunter staying on AOS better.

    ReplyDelete
  27. and Marvel TV too. Daredevil is thousand times better than SHIELD xD

    ReplyDelete
  28. The spinoff..... got dropped off.

    ReplyDelete
  29. And that could also explain why Agent Carter and American Crime were picked up. They were consolation prizes to keep the parties happy.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I thought they were gonna pick thsi if Carter was cancelled but i guess they thought the same too. Better one that was already develeped than anew ione which didnt have a pilot yet.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Aw this is disappointing

    ReplyDelete
  32. You mean to keep Marvel and John Ridley happy? Could be.

    ReplyDelete
  33. John Ridley wasn't working on the Mockingbird Spinoff

    ReplyDelete
  34. I thought that he was. At least, that's the impression Deadline gave.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was hoping for an Inhuman or Deathlok spin-off. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I figured since I don't trust Palicki to carry a show after that Wonder Woman pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nah this is was the Deadline Article states ABC and Marvel also are secretly working on a potential series with John Ridley, who will be busy with a second installment of American Crime, just picked up by the network.

    ReplyDelete
  38. DC: 1 great-The Flash, 1 ok (this season)-Arrow, 1 meh-Constantine, and 1 insanely awful-Gotham
    Marvel: 1 awesome-Daredevil, 1 great-SHIELD, and 1 good- Agent Carter............Marvel looks better to me

    ReplyDelete
  39. DAMN IT!!!!!! i wanted to see it

    ReplyDelete
  40. To Be Honest wasn't really looking forward to the Spinoff anyway. Bobbi (Mockingbird) is better just to stay on Agents of Shield

    ReplyDelete
  41. Agreed. But in their articles, "secret" project is the one that was passed on.

    ReplyDelete
  42. didn't she head Friday Nigh Lights?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have no idea. Never heard of that.

    ReplyDelete
  44. No Marvel was working on 2 spinoffs last I checked this project was

The project had been developed quietly by S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeffrey Bell and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski.Says nothing about John Ridley in that part of the Article

    ReplyDelete
  45. Last I checked Marvel was working on 2 Shows the Spinoff and another show that wasn't announced yet. That Project was being Developed with John Ridley The project had been developed quietly by S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeffrey Bell and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Those two never interested me for their own show anyway, at least not enough.

    ReplyDelete
  47. She was never really a lead, more part of a large ensemble. She wasn't a regular in every season, either

    ReplyDelete
  48. Fine with that.... they've haven't done nothing much to impress me enough as characters to follow them over to their own show, but I can deal with them in the ensemble.

    ReplyDelete
  49. No he wasn't, but his Marvel project may have fallen through so ABC just renewed American Crime instead.

    ReplyDelete
  50. They renewed Agent carter instead & we're not losing Bobbi and Hunter-Sounds like Good news to me!

    ReplyDelete
  51. This is fine with me since I didn't want Hunter to leave AOS.

    ReplyDelete
  52. More room for Agent Carter although I prefer the characters that were going to be in the spin-off to those in SHIELD.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Good it was possibly a show too far.

    ReplyDelete
  54. For something that never happened I'm OK with it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. That was terrible but I blame the writing and directing.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm not too upset about this but it would have been interesting. Keeping Bobbi and Lance with the main team is fine with me.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Does this mean we get to keep Bobbi and Hunter??? I really need more Hunter/Fitz/Coulson bonding!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Aww :( Maybe they'll just focus more on them next season...

    ReplyDelete
  59. I hope! I really really really like them. We can shed Mack though, cool with that.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Good! More focus on Agent Carter, kthx.

    ReplyDelete
  61. They were so messy about it! I'm really surprised ABC went so random at this project.
I assume a better project will be produced next pilot season, with the American Crime producer.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I prefer Carter over this and still do. I didnt need a similar show to AOS where occasionaly characters from both would be in both shows.

A period drama/Superhero show with some ties to the MU and Captain America is far far far better. Capping it to a 13 show episode too is far better.

    ReplyDelete
  63. This is what I call a win/win. Agent Carter got renewed and Bobbi and Hunter get to stay on AOS!! I'm pumped. I think Marvel should do an Inhuman spinoff anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  64. yeah, i'm glad too. Also, Bobbi and Hunter will continue on AoS. So win/win situation!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yeah I think I much prefer Bobbi and Lance to stay on SHIELD than having their own spinoff, I just love their interactions with the team so damn much and it will feel odd not having them around anymore. More Coulson/Fitz/Lance next season please! Also Bobbi/May too.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Very disappointed, really wanted this spin-off to happen. Hope that Bobbi and Hunter will continue on Agents of SHIELD.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Maybe they'll do an Agent 13 and Maria Hill spinoff. That'd be fun;)

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am not sure if they really were that messy. They threw the idea around and then decided not to do it. Happens all the time. It is not like they had made an official announcement yet, all what was there were leaked rumours.
I wonder if the reaction of the fans was the reason, or if they noticed how well Hunter worked in those last episodes in tandem with Coulson and Fitz.

    ReplyDelete
  69. What are you talking about? CW with their Arrow and The Flash line-up is doing exceptionally well for that particular network (on ABC both shows would be up for cancellation), but Constantin and Gotham are both not doing well at all. Constantin is in deep red on the cancellation index and Gotham has been steadily loosing viewers.
Marvel on the other hand has with Agent Carter a critically acclaimed show, with Daredevil another darling which was highly praised from all sides and even Agent of Shield has found its pace now.
CW's plans for the future involve this strange "Legends of Tomorrow" show which might or might not work out and DC is launching a Supergirl show.
Meanwhile Marvel has lined up "Aka Jessica Jones", "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist" for Netflix, after which all four Netflix show are supposed to lead into a Defender series.
And while they have decided against a spin-off they are also developing another series for ABC.
Honestly, I am more excited for what Marvel has to offer. But don't worry. DC still leads in the animation segment.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Why? The ratings were decent (they are only perceived as "bad" because ABC has usually higher expectations) and the show is critically acclaimed.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I don't watch SHIELD but followed the news around here on the site. But still the way they handled this is MEH!
It was like we dropped the buzz, than lets see how the people will react, scramble up a cast and than decide. For me that is messy.
I'm just glad Agent Carter got a chance over this.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I would have liked to watch this but i wont loose any sleep over it either since i wasnt attached to it yet and since i will still get the characters on the main show. In addition, i prefer carter renewed if that is what it came down to

    ReplyDelete
  73. I loce the hunter, fitz and coulson dynamic haha

    ReplyDelete
  74. That's assuming that the leak was intentional.
And I don't think that there is any connection between this and Agent Carter.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Nothing happens unintentionally, that U can be certain of. Those leaks and stuff are all planned.
Money and focus are a part of the decision for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Tell that Sony.
the MCU is one of those properties everyone is interested in. This makes it really, really difficult to keep anything under wraps. If it were a smaller property, I would agree, but in this case I am not so sure, mostly because the news about it were actually contradicting each other. One said it is supposed to full season, another talked about it being a bridge, for example. The part about Mockingbird and Hunter being the leads might have been intentional after the cat was out of the bag to gauge the reactions, but I don't think anything else was.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think this is good news. I could've gone for a Mockingbird show, but I adore Hunter and his relationships with Coulson's team so much that separating him from them would've been a crime.

Plus, if it came down to this or Agent Carter, AC is definitley the right choice.

    ReplyDelete
  78. It BETTER. Anyone who dares to remove Nick/Hunter from the MCU altogether will face my wrath!

    ReplyDelete
  79. God, I love those mindless fanboy comments with no reason behind them.

Sure, if you think having 100000000 different shows spread across every network or cable channel is preferable to actual good writing with nuanced characters and cohesive storylines that come together, then DC/WB is winning. I tend to prefer the Marvel approach, though.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I guess it's a good thing, it was definitely too soon and I want them to stay in AOS.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Rumors always float around, just look at the CW spin off. When U have a news, everyone spins it the way it benefits them. But the leak or whatever was most likely intentionally, at least from my pov. At this point we'll have to agree to disagree.

comparing Daredevil to shield is silly Daredevil is so dark that you can't mention shield with it its in a category by its self

    ReplyDelete
  83. Stephen S. BowmanMay 8, 2015 at 11:06 AM

i really do enjoy The Flash by DC shield and agent carter comming back is good news also

    ReplyDelete
  84. Stephen S. BowmanMay 8, 2015 at 11:09 AM

yea maybe but The Flash and Arrow our still very good shows though so i watch both arrow and flash along with shield and carter

    ReplyDelete
  85. Stephen S. BowmanMay 8, 2015 at 11:11 AM

i would love to see more agent 13 actually but outside of her involvement with captain america not sure what else she does in the comics

    ReplyDelete
  86. I hope the other secret John Ridley spin off still happens though I think it may stay in development for a while before its announced.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Well, she killed him.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I find The Flash fun but not nearly as complex and well-written as AoS, and Arrow, this season, is dreadfully boring and full of two-dimensional, unappealing characters making stupid and predictable decisions to serve a storyline that moves at a snail's pace. I honestly have no idea what people still see in this show.

    ReplyDelete
  89. i'm sad, i think AoS is too crowded with characters at the moment and it would have been nice to split them up so that both teams could have better character development

    ReplyDelete
  90. Stephen S. BowmanMay 8, 2015 at 1:21 PM

this is actually good since we getting more carter

    ReplyDelete
  91. Historical_MaterialistMay 8, 2015 at 1:26 PM

The spin off was supposed to include Bobbi and Hunter. Since the AoS season finale would have been shot weeks ago when the spin off was still in the works, this means that both Bobbi and Hunter will survive whatever happens in the finale. It does not necessarily guarantee that both of them will remain on the show. An exit by either or both of them, or a demotion to recurring is still possible.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Good news. Bobbi leaving for the new show I could have taken. But loosing Hunter would have been really sad. And also I don't want to see a series based on the messed up relationship between Bobbi and Hunter. That is the least appealing thing about their characters.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Don't like Bobby. Love Hunter. I hope he stays on AOS

    ReplyDelete
  94. Great news, could care less about Bobbi but love Hunter!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm really glad it's not going forward.Shield does not have enough followers right now to justify a spinoff. They need to streamline their current cast and work on great storylines before they can EVEN think of a spinoff.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I wasn't excited about the spinoff but i agree. This show is too crowed right now. 8 main cast members and a bunch of guest is too much. Most character suffer from lack of development. Now i wonder if they will keep Bobbi and Hunter as main characters on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I think it had more to do with the idea of the show. I like both characters but i have no idea how they would be able to produce another show with them without being SHIELD 2.0.

    ReplyDelete
  98. It's good. Bobbi and Hunter are better on the aos but now they will have to solve the overcrowed situation the show is having specially if they wan to move foward with the inhumans storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Good, I prefer them to stay in Agents of SHIELD.
Also, it sounded too much like Agents of SHIELD to be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Been wondering what happened with that. I'm haven't heard anything in two or three weeks, when word had it that series was centered on Kamala Khan.

    ReplyDelete
  101. It just may of been put in the back burner for now.

    ReplyDelete
  102. And SHIELD cant be dark? c'mon they both Marvel shows that's why im comparing them.

    ReplyDelete
  103. omg yes!!! I'm so here for more Coulson/Fitz/Lance fighting crime together lol..it was a lot of fun those three together

    ReplyDelete
  104. True. I think some people might leave after this season finale..Mack is one of them. Ward just needs to go, he doesn't fit in the show anymore. I think the inhumans storyline may have a pause after this finale..with Civil War coming in S3 there will be a lot more other things to worry about

    ReplyDelete
  105. I'll make sure to provide backup for you! He's really grown on me.

    ReplyDelete
  106. If anyone, especially Hunter, goes before Ward, I'm going to be so freaking pissed off. Mr. No Storyline Other Than Appeasing Fangirls is clearly the biggest dead weight on the show right now.

    ReplyDelete
  107. We have to see who will die first. Cal, Kara, Mac and the inhumans are on the watch list. Ward will survive but hopefully they cut him off at some point during season 3. He really doesn't fit anymore. Most people don't like him and don't him back to the team.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I agree. I prefer having Bobbi and Hunter around. They fit in. Ward doesn't. I have no idea what they will do with his character on season 3 but hopefully he won't stick long.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Hunter is one of my favorite characters on the show, and i love his connecion with the team, so i'm glad the will stay..Bobbi is kind of a mess right now, but hopefully she will be better again in S3...but Ward has nothing to do on the show anymore..a large part of the fandom don't like him so it's very okat for him to leave. I mean, we lost a great character this season (Trip), and wtf Ward is still doing in AoS?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yes. I know I'm in the minority here...but I really didn't want another spin-off. I just feel like it's too much, and I wasn't completely behind a show with Bobbi and Hunter. I mean I like them on Shield, but I couldn't imagine watching them every episode with a 12 episode season. Just isn't my cup of tea.

    ReplyDelete
  111. No way does Mockingbird get relegated to recurring. Plus they made Palacki a series regular this year. Hunter as been one of the most beloved characters this season. He's not going anywhere. In fact, I'm guessing he becomes a series regular as well.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Oh well. Probably best that they focus on AoS and Agent Carter.
