The Theta Protocol twist -- that Coulson built Nick Fury a new helicarrier -- sort of puts "Agents of SHIELD" in the same position of the standalone Avengers movies; instead of asking why Tony Stark doesn't just help Captain America, we can ask why Nick Fury won't keep coming to SHIELD's rescue. How do you plan to avoid that being an issue going forward?
JW: Yeah, that is a constant question mark in all these movies and all these properties. It's one that I think the audience is willing to swallow. There is a bye in every [standalone Avengers movie] that they're not all in. There is a question all the time of "why don't they show up?" But, you know, they can't. And if there are going to be standalone stories, they certainly can't [show up] on our show. I think the audience is willing to forgive that knowing it's logistically impossible. We do what we can to sort of cover that story by [saying], "Oh, they're so busy somewhere else."
MT: And we buy that Fury is communicating -- this season, anyway -- with Coulson via the toolbox. I think that satiates people's need to actually see his face. I know everybody wants to see Nick Fury's face -- I do. I would love to have him show up again -- but there's ways we've had that connection stay alive without him actually appearing.
JW: Right. And yes, there's the danger in [episode] 19 where [Coulson] says, "Call the Avengers"; there's a danger in any dire situation for the rest of our show of the audience going, "Just call the Avengers again!" [ laughs] We hope the audience will forgive us that.
How much is this going to set up what you want to explore going forward? Are we going to have as big of a cliffhanger as we did in Season 1?
MT: There is a cliffhanger for sure. You will be waiting for Season 3.
JW: You will leave with a mystery of something you desperately want to know what's happening, the promise of something you're very excited to see happen, and a little bit of a resolve of all the things you've seen happen this year.
MT: So that's why it's two hours long.
JW: Not everyone will make it, and not all of our favorite people will get out unscathed.
Let's switch gears to Ward. Will we find out by the end of this season what his ultimate goal is?
JW: I think very quickly it will present itself, what his motives are in this moment. But yes, it turns out that him leaving Kara there, he was not being the best boyfriend in the world -- or maybe he was.
MT: He may still think that he's being the best boyfriend in the world by leaving. So his motives will become more clear by the end of the season, and hopefully they'll become blatantly clear in Season 3. [ laughs]

At the end of the episode, Jiaying makes a daring move and turns against Gonzales' nature. Was this out of fear of the Inhumans being indexed? Or a thought of losing Skye to SHIELD? Or both?
It's really the bigger picture. What Jiaying says is true. She has set up a community in the middle of nowhere so they would be left alone. We know that her experience in the past with SHIELD, even though we know it was Hydra masked as SHIELD, was horrible. So now here she is with SHIELD showing up at her doorstep saying, "Hi, we don't want to hurt you but we do want to index you and we do want to monitor you," and that didn't work well for her. She is trying to protect her people. I don't think she's a bad person for doing it, but the way she's doing it seems a little bit suspect.
Raina's (Ruth Negga) visions up to this point have been accurate and it looks like she saw this coming with Jiaying. She seems willing to turn over a new leaf but is hindered by her past and who she was. What can we expect for Raina in the finale?
You hit it on the head. This is a woman who has been manipulative at every step along the way and now she's having these visions and seems to be telling the truth but she's also been her own worst enemy. The question is, can we trust Raina or will she be up to her old tricks?
Kara (Maya Stojan) and Ward (Brett Dalton) kidnapped Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki), is this a vendetta against Bobbi?
All will be revealed.
Is there anything you can tease for the finale next?
It's big. It's emotional. There are some twists and turns, some surprises. I'm excited to see how people react to it.

well well skye's mom show her true colors and the promo with skye turning against shield was interesting but not that suprising
ReplyDeleteShooting Gonzales made me like her more.
ReplyDeleteI don't think she's a bad person for doing it, but the way she's doing it seems a little bit suspect.
ReplyDeleteThat is how I see it, she isn't doing it the right way but knowing how SHIELD is with enhanced people and suddenly having their freedom taken away I can understand the extreme reaction, even if its gonna cause bigger problems in the future. She has lived through history, though events like WW2, through countless genocides, the world fears those who are different.
Definitely leading up nicely to Civil War.
I understand Jiaying's motivation to protect her people, she just went about it the wrong way. Sadly I won't miss Gonzalez, he was a bigotted douche.
ReplyDeleteSo who going to died?
ReplyDelete"There is a cliffhanger for sure. YOU WILL BE WAITING FOR SEASON 3"
ReplyDeleteit was kinda obvious at this point (because of the spin-off, and ratings really aren't as bad as some people seem to think), but it's still nice to actually read it, a couple of months ago i was really scared for the future of this show
- I'm really interested in that Kree stone so hopefully we'll find out more about its origins in the future. I wonder if it will play a major role in season 3.
ReplyDelete- Jiaying is just trying to do what's best for her people so I'm glad Jeff, Jed, and Mo are acknowledging that. I can see why she went to great lengths to do what she did in the episode but I just know that this is going to cause even bigger issues in the future regarding the Inhumans.
- I'm glad that by the finale, we are going to find out what Ward's true motives. It's been too long and I think it's time to finally find out what his endgame is.
- A lot of people seem to be really annoyed by May this second half of the season but she's just so confused on who she can fully trust because she feels hurt/betrayed (ex. Coulson not telling her that he's been in contact with Andrew). Hopefully this will be fixed by season's end.
Yeah I don't get why people are annoyed with May. We have seen her history, we know how messed up the Bahrain incident was and on top of that she only came back to active duty to help Coulson and then he still hasn't been straight with her despite all they went through at the end of S1.
ReplyDeletehe did have that comming though
ReplyDeleteWith "Infinity War" coming we know at least that everything will turn out more or less good for the Inhumans as for SHIELD.
ReplyDeleteYeah I said it the other week in one of the AOS posts but all this fighting, all this how do we handle people with powers, none of that will matter when the universe is being torn apart by a big purple guy! This is the prelude to the greater war that no one knows is coming.
ReplyDeleteYeah with the T-bomb coming the Inhumans will no longer require the Deviners, they won't be registrated an will preserve their culture. Interestingly Jiaying's speech about the crystals was kind of a hint for that.
ReplyDeleteI acutually understand why Coulson didn't tell her that, it's his job/duty, why he has to tell May everything? May isn't his boss, and obviously you can't talk about such an important mission only because she is a dear friend. It's neither Coulson's fault nor May's, not everything happens in the way everyone's happy with.
ReplyDeleteBut i do think May deserves better, hope Couldson will help her get through this tough period, hate seeing they keep fighting all the time:(
well it looks like Raina was telling the truth and skye mom is afraid of losing her power
ReplyDeleteShe's not afraid of losing her power, but what SHIELD could harm her people.
ReplyDeletethis is probably why coulson should of gone been better results me thinks
ReplyDeleteGonzalez
ReplyDeleteI doubt it would be much different. Jiaying wants the inhumans to be left alone and SHIELD won't let that happen, Couson or Gonzalez.. Their peace offer involves tagging and monitoring them Jiaying wouldn't go for that with anyone.
ReplyDeleteThe stone will definetly have a major plot going foward. They just didn't introduced that to be lfet alone unless the inhumans successfully destroy on the finale. They will definelty go for that but not sure they will succeed.
ReplyDeleteAcknowledging is the least they can do. That meeting was always end up in a war. Jiaying would not accept being tagged and Shield would not back down. It was predictable and very sad to see they took this route of making the inhumans being manipulative and starting the war. Most people will see them as the villain now. Its hard enough to not see Shield and Coulson team as the good guys even when they are not, but by doing that they made it impossible for the inhumans.
I am so sick of being jerked around by this show that I'm not even excited about next week and am thisclose to giving it up. I got sick of the ~plot twists~ about six episodes ago. Nobody noticed there were two Mays? Kara couldn't fly last week but suddenly she can this week?
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting me, though. Hellfire theory is true?
https://twitter.com/maximofftwin/status/595874063366492160
No culture or country would agree. Countries have started wars for much less! The only thing that is off is Jiaying way to handle the situation.
ReplyDeleteI actually think May was way more upset with the Andrew thing than the theta protocol. He is deirector he ahs secrets. May can understand this. She spied on him on Fury's orders. Coulson going behind her back to talk to him.
ReplyDeletePretty much any inhumans are on the hit list. Plus Cal and Kara. Not of the main 6, Bobbi and Hunter will.
ReplyDeleteRaina saw this comming and they called her crazy
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. If he will be Hellfire, good for him, he will get Skye; bad for him, he won't survive (at least if the show would follow the comics, but as they killed Quicksilver in AoU, who knows).
ReplyDeleteI didn't think he was going to be Hellfire at all but now I'm not sure about anything.
ReplyDeleteAnd Jed and Mo spoiled in the Zap2it article that he survives to season three so there's that at least.
In any case it would be interesting. For sure he will survive the season finale, if he will end up dead or not is more a question about his endgame.
ReplyDeleteAlso, this weird Tweet from one of the people involved with the SHIELD comics points to the Hellfire theory too

What Ward wants Bobby for?
ReplyDeleteKara and Ward wanted Bobbi to *think* Kara could not fly the jet, so she'd be less suspicious when "May" wants to take the Quinjet with her. Alone.
ReplyDeleteCannot say I shall miss Gonzalez and his holier than thou jerkiness and deceit. Wonder if Coulson's alien blood would have protected him if Jiaying had broken the crystal in front of him instead.Though I did not care for her deliberately lying to start a war I must say all that talk of indexing her people smacked too much of the first step to concentration camps and ethnic cleansing. And I( and only I apparently) have hated Mack since he betrayed Coulson. Good riddance, but I am sure that is not the last of his sorry self righteous self. Still have not forgiven Bobbi either and hope Hunter doesn't .
ReplyDeleteWard has Hellfire written all over him and the season finale in a war of Shiedl VS inhumans will be the best moment to reveal. Ward has a big action scene on the finale. It should involve his powers. Is the blond supposed to be Bobbi?
ReplyDeleteTESTIFY!
ReplyDeleteCalling Skye "It" was the last straw for me.
ReplyDeleteWard certainly borrows elements from Hellfire, but I definitely hope they never ever make him EXACTLY Hellfire in comics with the latter's betrayal having much more damaging consequences: a teammate died, and one who was, what, 13 years old or something like that? At least Fitz is an adult and alive.
ReplyDeleteNo, what I think Waid is saying is that he can't bring in Ward before they fully reveal the bullet points of his backstory, namely Thomas, the sister, the parents and the relationship between them, Grant and Christian. Oh, and if Lincoln is Thomas as I think he is then that also means every single Ward sibling is an Inhuman, yet another big reason not to rush Ward's introduction in the comics.
Bobbi would have talked to Fitz and possibly to Lance. Kara and Ward were being so sappy because they knew this would provoke Fitz and Lance to complain where Bobbi could hear it.
ReplyDeleteHe wants the Quinjet. Bobbi was the best choice of who to mug for the Quinjet, given what she did to Kara. They are far more likely to forgive an attack by Kara on Bobbi, given what Bobbi did, than on any other member of the team, like Lance or May.
ReplyDeleteYeah, she saw it comming, but she made the mistake that she tried to take benefit for herself out of that situation. If she would have just asked Gordon to keep an eye on Jiaying the outcome would have been different.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he is Hellfire, but Lincoln is still his brother.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a possibility! Guess we'll find out soon.
ReplyDeleteCan somebody please slap Ward or punch him? He starting to get on my nerves seriously.
ReplyDeleteFor the promo, looks like he is gonna fight with Bobbi. Who will win? I don´t know, but It has to be a great fight
ReplyDeleteGood, he really need a lesson.
ReplyDeleteExactly. It's more of a personal thing than work-related thing regarding Andrew her was her ex husband.
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is that for the first time Gonzales actually seems to be more than just the charactiure he was presenting so far. You aren't the only one that didn't like Mack, it's actually his character that he walked away with his issues with Aliens.
ReplyDeleteYeah I guess you're right, that meeting wasn't always going to be all kumbaya lets just hand ourselves over to SHIELD so they can brand us forever and monitor us. I hate it so much that the writers are turning the Inhumans into villains, considering they are one of my favorite aspects of the Marvel universe but I guess it will be interesting to see more moving forward. And I'm SERIOUSLY questioning SHIELD as an organization right now. I know that they always have to make the tough choices but I think they went a little too far last night IMO.
ReplyDeleteYet his handling of Jiaying was much better than I expected. When he got that box from Weaver I thought for sure it was a trick, then it turns out to be an actually touching symbol. Even if he hated Gifted people he was willing to try and find a peace that Shield could live with, with the Inhumans,
ReplyDeleteI think is the writers fault he has been so annoying. If they just revealed what the hell he wants would be a lot easier to understand him but they keep dragging with no clears goals and using him as a surprising factor. It was fun at first but now is just annoying. This show already have enough amount of mysteries, betrayals and turns.
ReplyDeletebrett teased this to be one the best fights sequences on the show so they better deliever. Considering the characters experience with fights should be a lot of fun. I think Bobbi will win.
ReplyDeleteDamn right, gosh it's too much for us, emotionally.
ReplyDeleteI'm team InHuman here. I'm getting tired of SHIELD.
ReplyDeleteThey should have been out of business entirely after Winter Soldier, just Coulson small group.
First sign from him any episode that I thought he was not simply a Hydra agent, not that it made much sense after last week. It's the only episode he stopped calling Skye and the other inhumans an "it"
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that stone is what Jiaying thinks it is because it feels like something SHIELD would ultamitly use.
ReplyDeleteI hope ward will win but then maybe when hes about to kill her he cant do it cause maybe coulson tells him to stop
ReplyDeleteI half-thought that charm was play with the language he used to talk to weaver.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Ward fighting one of the SHIELD women is becoming a season finale tradition :) there's a clip in the promo where Bobbi sort of jumps forward and plows into Ward with both feet, that looks like a pretty cool move. Although, I wonder if she'll manage to find a pair of sticks to fight with, because she seems to rely a lot on those during fights.
ReplyDeleteI saw that. People are more focused on the whole fire thing outside alluding to his possible reveal as Hellfire but Bobbi move is awesome. I hope Ward's lose to a woman again.
ReplyDeleteoh i agree but he did try to do coulson method probably badly put together though
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Coulson is immune to the mist, since he has Kree blood on him...
ReplyDeleteI thought him bringing the amulet was a smart, nice diplomatic move. But in the heart of it he was essentially a trick and emotional manipulations. He gave Jiaying her treat then asked her to roll over...
ReplyDeleteI think you can understand her reasoning and still be annoyed by it. I know I am.
ReplyDeleteShe's letting her biases guide her and even though I do see where she is coming from I tend to expect more from her.
