Take this with a large pinch of salt, but for the last few days we've been receiving emails from fans linking us to a number of online articles.
Basically some TVD Crew Members have been posting photos with the #hashtag "#ninawewillmissyou". Some of these were then deleted.
Michael Trevino and Nina Dobrev are currently enjoying a weekend at the lake with their castmates and crew members and it appears to be a big farewell party.
Also note that Nina Dobrev has yet to sign her 7th Season contract and has recently purchased a new house in Los Angeles (TVD films in Atlanta)

ReplyDeleteHahahaha! What a tease! Think they are just mislead and what to draw people back in. At least that is what I felt when I read this. Either killing Nina or humanize her would be just a huge move. Don't think the show will go there and wouldn't survive without her.

ReplyDeleteFirstly I'd like to say that I don't watch TVD anymore, but I read recaps. I've always loved Nina, but the truth is that Elena is probably the very worst character. Katherine was awesome, and Elena used to be ok, but she has become just the worst. Since season 4 she has no personality trait that would make her loveable. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I seriously think that writing off Elena might be a way to save the show, if it can be saved at all. Also Nina deserves way better than the crap TVD has become. She is far more talented.

Ratings then completely fall, and the show will be closed. Many people love Elena and protect her from haters and certainly many people love Delena.
ReplyDeleteIt is not that ridiculous since she still has not signed a new contract and it was officially reported a couple months ago that someone didnt want to renew the contract.
ReplyDeleteNina is also shifting her stuff from Atlanta to new LA house...I think she will not leave TVD entirely...she may not heavely featured in all the episodes and will come back for final few episodes to close the series.
ReplyDeleteI think it's partially true: it seems to me that she left the show but she agreed to come back (Nina confirmed to have signed for s7) as a recurring guest to wrap up few storylines, just like Claire Holt did.
ReplyDeleteThe pics and comments from the crew at the Lake week end seem genuine, so i believe it's a farewell party this year (they often gather at this place) and the fact that Michael is officially leaving makes it logical that they are throwing a party for both for the same reasons.
Ian and Paul have always been the main attraction and the biggest stars of the show for an audience who is mainly feminine and young. That doesn't mean that Elena wasn't essential to link the two main male characters together, simply now the brothers got over their past war and are closer than ever. That's why i can totally see a season centered on the reconstruction of their family bond (They also have Sarah to link them, if she survives the finale).
The gossip sites have started this rumor last year around october: apparently Nina wasn't comfortable to have Ian's new girlfriend on set and the tension was strong...
The Salvatore's Lily, DAMON, STEFAN, Lorenzo, & Sarah ( as well as girlfriends Bonnie and Caroline ) and Alaric, Jo, Liv, the twins, and Matt will keep the show going strong.

I wouldn't blame her if she wanted to leave Ian's dramatics behind, but I'd have difficulty watching the series without her. I'd still try out of general loyalty but might not enjoy it as much.

ReplyDeleteWould be nice. I like her. But the show is running on fumes. The only way to make it great again would be to do a semi-reboot. Wipe out most of the cast, move into different setting, add new charactes/monster types etc. You could bassicaly just take Damon and Stefan show. Bassicaly a spin off "The Salvatores" in anything but the name

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Julie has zero idea what to do with Elena these days. She doesn't feel like a main character anymore, not even close, and they are just writing her as progressively more and more annoying/dumb. And hugely irrelevant. Why? Why do we need to do this to the character? Besides there is virtually nowhere to go for delena now - they won't let them take the next step together, but they can't stay the way they are either (this is still TV), all they are doing is going in circles... So at this point it will be a relieve for the story - rest in peace, Elena :(
Whether this was their intention or not, thanks to character developments in season 6 the show is now for the first time able to survive without Nina... It may sound weird at first but Caroline is the new leading female, Bonnie is pretty strong character now as well... It will even work relationship-wise since the main ship is really steroline now, not delena... And they have invested enough into bamon to be able to turn them into a relationship as well if they will want to...
Second of all, whatever the situation between Nina and Ian is, they probably aren't extremely happy about playing a couple in love anymore... Both of them are professionals and very fine actors but they are humans as well...
And last but not least, Nina clearly wants to make a career in movies and you know what? I think she has a good chance and that this may be a great opportunity for her... And I really wish her the best.
So yes, all in all, it's IMHO for the best...

ReplyDeleteWouldn't quite compare those 2 things! Charmed was a build on a strong sisterly bond, while VD on a love triangle and love interests. They have to replace her and they mostly do a poor job with new additions.
ReplyDeleteIt could go either way but with such a shipper pushing viewership it could end in a big mess and the show hitting low low numbers.
Im cackling so loud.There is a literal meltdown in twitter and Insta because of these posts and the person had to either delete them or hide her profile(dont know if that is possible) because she posted these.I think she is leaving because Nina has never really posted so much for VD on her twitter .I think she will die at the end of the season ...either becoming human again or just gone forever.Ratings are already in the tank,so not sure what S7 will look like.
ReplyDeleteShows in its 6th season is usually when cast members renegotiate their contracts for the show and the studio. And yes, I do understand that Ian and Nina still find it awkward that they are doing intimate scenes when in real life, they've since broken up.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, I won't believe it until it's official. And despite being an ensemble show, the core three (Ian, Nina and Paul) are too central for the series so it would be a big mistake for any of those three to leave fans hanging just as the show is about to enter its swan song (which Season 7 will no doubt will be).
Nina owes it to TVD fans who kept watching the show for all these years that she'll ride this out til the very end. I know everyone's aching to leave TVD but the cast and the crew have to reach a consensus here and Julie Plec, more than anyone, knows that she can't keep everyone hanging.
Announce the show's next season as its last, probably give Nina the same deal as fellow regulars Kat Graham et al who don't appear in all the episodes per season and everyone's happy.

Nina can't leave the show because she is the leading women of Vampire diaries.. Julie Plec have prefect ending and I know it about Elena.

ReplyDeleteLol, joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes dated IRL when they were on Dawson's creek and when they break up, they still got along and even played lovers on screen. Neither josh nor Katie had to leave because of it. So I don't think Nina will leave just because of Ian.

It's definitely a possibility that they're just continuing on without her. One Tree Hill attempted the same thing after Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton left the show and that went on for seasons after. That's probably why they reintroduced the cure, so Elena will take it and probably leave Mystic Falls.

ReplyDeleteI quit watching after they killed Katharine.I recently broke down and bought season 5 on DVD so i will eventully see the remaining season 5 episodes after she was killed.But,i don't blame Nina.Just because elena is written horrable doesn't mean she is bad actress.She was great as Katharine.The fact some prefered nina as Katharine over her as elena says everything about the writing.Julie Plec has been killing both VD and Originals.Claire Holt's depture and writing made me not bother at all with season 2 of originals.And hearing about originals In new bodies doesn't intrest me in coming back.

Elena will take the cure and become human, Damon will come to realize he loves Bonnie and he and Elena will break up, Elena will decide she needs a fresh start so she moves to where Jeremy is attending school and enrolls in their medical classes there.

Neither Caroline nor Bonnie have what it takes to make this story - it's linking arc has always been Elena and her fate. Any other lead and it's just... pointless adventures. May still be entertaining but any depth the show had would be lost.

ReplyDeleteIt may have worked for Charmed but it did not for many others. Even when Charmed was able to last long after Prue died, it still did not make sense for the character to not make her presence felt the same way Penelope and Patty were during those remaining years.
TVD went downhill after S3 but I can't see the show working without Elena. Whether you like her or hate her she is the lead. Paul said the cast has changing next season so maybe Tyler, Matt and Bonnie are the ones leaving the show and not Elena.

ReplyDeleteAgreed, agreed. I stopped watching 90210 and Charmed after Shannen left since she played my favorite character on both shows. Once you take one of the main characters out of the dynamic everything shifts and it stops feeling like the original concept. I guess if Nina wants out though they don't really have much of a choice. I'm sure she wouldn't want them to cancel the show just because she's leaving, it wouldn't be fair to the cast and crew.

Alaric would end up getting a teaching position at Duke so Jo, Liv, and the twins would move their too.

I keep thinking that the reason why Enzo hates Stefan is that he became something of a surrogate son to Lily. And he kept hearing about the great Stefan and Damon, always knowing that Lily cared about them more than about him. He stopped hating Damon because of what has happened with the Augustine, but he never stopped being jealous about Stefan... If anything, he might envy him more because Damon is Stefan's real brother, while he is just something like a brother to Enzo...

ReplyDeleteand there were fans who liked paige over pru.Even before pru died charmed had morphed into Phoebe as main character and even Piper was becoming more doment in storylines.Piper's romance storylines were more ongoing than any of pru's after Andy was killed off in season 1 finale.

Really whats the point in continuing the series just one more year after Nina may leave, if season 7 could be the final season. They may as well have ideas to extended it beyond 7, just there's no point in making season 7 the final season without Elena in it.

I know fans hate that season, and as a final season you may aswell try hard to lock in your lead actress if season 7 is the last one, just stick it out one more year, so It tells me they have plans to go beyond 7 maybe.

ReplyDeleteI'm just talking from a production/writer point of view, is that they probably want the show to go more than 7 seasons, as if Julie Plec told Nina she wants the show to end after season 7, she could of convinced her to stay one more year, if that was the case.
Clearly Julie Plec has ideas for more seasons, and Nina doesn't want to stay for that long.
TVD got renewed officially means they(the creatives & the studio/network executives)knew very well who would leave & mutually agreed upon it.We just got a hint of what's coming.

ReplyDeleteMost contracts on TV shows expire during the summer so there is still probably some negotiation we don't now about.

If she wants to move on, she could work things out with the studio. Have a similar deal with Kat, Michael, Zach and Candice so she would have more time off like them while still being billed as a regular.
I can see her guest starring in best case scenario.Would that be weird?

ReplyDeleteI actually thought she'd leave last year as well, she seemed to be pretty much peed with the show herself. Not like Paul Wesley who's actively trash-talking TVD (and I love him for that) but on a more subtle level.
ReplyDeleteI'd feel pretty sad to see her leave (as well as Michael Trevino but given that he's cast in some new pilot we can be pretty sure that he's leaving as well) however the show really didn't give her much material but obsessing over Damon. Her character was degraded from a well written female lead to a males dog on a leash. Wich was the biggest step back in feminism this show did since it had Jenna make Jeremy a sandwich.
TVD is Ians show these days anyways, fans don't seem to care about anything else but their eyecandy
I would totally vote for Nina to show up on TO from time to time though. I really liked Tatia and I don't think that fans are still over the way Katherine/Elijah ended

I always thought it would be Elena.There was too much foreshadowing in the script recently and JP had stated that when Elena became a vampire that that would be the middle of her journey.There is a theory floating around that there is another cure in 1903?This cure will go to someone else.I had the theory that they would give it to Stefan as well because he always wanted that type of life ,Damon didnt...but who knows as there are so many rewrites maybe they will twist that around and say that Damon now wants the human life...lol

ReplyDeleteI disagree. Elena is easily one of the least liked characters on the show. In fact, most of the stories that have taken place this season would be the exact same without her.
ReplyDeleteIf she does leave, I think the show will do just fine. Delena shippers will flip out, but the show isn't comprised only of them.
I'll miss Nina because I actually think she's a great person, but Elena is no longer necessary to the story. Everything she does these days revolves around Damon.
Maybe this will save the show. Everybody will be excited to see how it is going to run without her and if they will do it well.

i think, that TVD will have full season seven and it will be lower and lower.
Then they will do 8th season with 10 episodes.
He really appears hardly in TVD,so managing both really shouldn't be a problem,truth be told.

It's funny how Julie and Caroline keep patting each other on shoulders but they don't have much to support their believes, the ratings are down, actors aren't that happy either... The show IS better, tremendously so, I give them that, but it seems like they have already done too much damage to it...
ReplyDeleteExactly. Its really just luck, and hoping for the best. Ratings are not their to support them, unlike Charmed the show survived without Prue, because the ratings were so high back in the day of the early 2000's.

ReplyDeleteAgreed, the damage was done during season 4 and 5. I felt the show started it by their first creative decision to resurrect Jeremy and undo Elena's whole journey of grief, then season 5 it got worse, and the fans left after Katherine died, when the ratings never recovered above 2 million viewers ever again.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you: i'm confused by the reactions to this news. As if Elena is the only character on the show and there isn't others storylines which are largely more interesting to watch and in all cases deserve also a conclusion.
ReplyDeleteThe Salvatore brothers are the heart of the show, and they're still there. I know that the show was originally presented as a romance show based on a triangle, but it was 6 years ago. Things change and if this rumor is true, it could be a way to rectify few mistakes that the writers did during s4 and s5 by focusing too much on the romance part.
Also few people have already gave examples of shows where leads have left without stopping the rest of the cast to continue for few seasons: x-files for sure, but also on CW one tree hill and the most famous smallville (which had 3 lead actors like TVD with one female and two males and where the lead female left way before the end of the show and has been replaced without causing a problem of continuity).
Past the 1st surprise, i see nothing dramatic here.

ReplyDeleteThis would almost certainly be the show's death. They'd lose the majority of their viewers, for starters; a large portion of the fandom is only watching for their ships now, since the quality of the show has gone down, and without Elena, the show loses a ton of Stelena and Delena fans, as well as probably a lot of Klaroline fans holding out hope. And regardless of Elena's unpopularity as a character, she's the focal point of the show. She's what this entire show has really been about, she's the character that ties them all together. Losing that kind of character is disastrous for most shows that attempt it. If Nina leaves, they should really just cancel before they can see the ratings tank.

ReplyDeleteVD suffered once Kevin williamson become producer by credit only after first half fo season 3.Second half of season 3 looks great now compared to seasons 4 and 5.Some fans didn't like killing off anna but resurrecting jeremy and whole stuff with bonnie makes death ilrelvent on VD.and then they did their dumbest thing.killing off Katharine.I am sure i am not only one who left because of that.There was reason they keep bringing katharine back over first 4 seasons.Elena beocming vampire should have been a final season devolpment.

ReplyDeleteNot sure how it's a bad thing, TVD has serious flaws. Blindly ignoring that and being glad that it cuts your paychecks is not really productive. He seems to care enough about this show to stay and direct some episodes to improve the show, so I'm actually on his side there.
Every actor that actively tries to add to the show on a creative basis is on my good side (Wesley/Somerhalder directing, Amell doing GA voices outside of Arrow, Barrowman pushing to get to write a Merlyn comic)
Not really, it was just left open ended. Also, we all know how TO will end shipping wise, so there's not much one can do. But anything to get back Katherine.

ReplyDeleteIm guessing because some folks have complained abt the writing and how some characters are being ignored for Delena.Hey..I remember watching the pilot and hearing "this is my story"..yet PW is now seen as an "I dont know how to write for this character" ..lets put him in a relationship and then destroy that relationship.I saw that JP tweeted after the last episode that the viewers were maniacs but that is how they survived for so long .This was after Kai was "killed" and the viewers started tweet Poor Kai.

Agreed, I felt it was early into the show's run, 3 seasons in. I was thinking she would turn during graduation or around then at least.
ReplyDeleteAlso I hated Julie Plec's decision to not introduce anything new like a succubus or a demon etc. the show could of redeemed itself if they introduced something new, why continue to recycle witches, vampires, hybrids and werewolfs over and over and over. If they did new things, then the show has something new to explore.

ReplyDeleteI would love to see the focus shift to Damon and Stefan. Both are still great characters-I never got the appeal of Elena tbh. She was never interesting to me, she just became more tolerable after turning into a vampire (unpopular opinion) but I still hate her. But let's not forget the shippers...The show simply does not last without them...If Elena leaves, Delena and Stelena fans leave with her. Most non-shippers have quitted watching this show long ago and the show won't survive another big dip in ratings with the shippers leaving too...I don't see the show surviving without Nina even though I believe an Elena-less TVD will be a good TVD.
ReplyDeleteIf they're on the home stretch then they should as much as possible keep the central figures intact for the last run unless they've always mapped out in their story biible for a central character such as Elena to leave the canvas before the final story can be told after seasons of basically being front-and-center in the show's most grueling love-triangle story ever.
