Between Lily's insistence on retrieving her roundtable of corpses, her impending meltdown, the cure business weighing heavy on Damon, his so-called betrayal of Bonnie's trust coming up, and him being labeled as a loose cannon by season's end, along with Elena's departure, it seems like TVD is determined to throw everything at Damon in an attempt to completely tear down this character all over again.
Sigh. I'm so glad you made a list. That made me feel so much better. Thank you Bruce.
And seriously, the more i see her face, (Elena's/Nina's) the angrier i become. More so than usual now. And every word out of Lily's mouth, makes me want her to go back to that prison world and rot! She does not deserve breakfast, Stefan's computer, or sharing "the rules of Vamperism taste buds 101" with Damon.
probably. we know Damon is going to betray Bonnie's trust at some point but maybe Kai will find a way out on his own, or Damon will try to trap Stefan with Lily in the prison world until he gets his humanity back.
My problem is more with TVD's repetitive "one step forward, eight steps back" process with Damon. Lily is just a symptom. So far, I don't mind her. With the way things go on this show, I'm sure I will mind sooner rather than later.
If I were a betting man, I'd say that would be what the upcoming betrayal of Bonnie's trust is. He promised her they'd never go back there but someone will end up forcing his hand and Damon will have to go back on his promise to Bonnie.
I hear ya on the Damon front. Lily she's up and down for me. Once it was revealed that she was alive or rather that moment Damon and Kai were digging for her...once i seen Damon's face, that was it for me. It was Katherine all over again. that didn't bode well for me. Then she wanted to save her "zombie clan" and had to be convinced to come back to help Stefan. Now she's eyeing Damon from across the table over Elena. Where the hell does she get off? She's bugging me in doses. I wanted to like her, but so far she hasn't given me a reason to. And i surely don't trust her. So i'm waiting. See if i can warm up to her in these last 5 episodes.
TVD 6th Season Finale, May 16, 2015, Final Scene, 8:58 p.m. EDT
Scene: A body lays perfectly still in the middle of a dark road. Headlights approach, car slows down and then stops. A woman jumps out of the car and runs toward the body, calling out in a frantic voice as she runs: "Do you need help? Are you..." Woman's voice dies in her throat as Damon pops straight up to a sitting position. His fangs erupt and he turns away from us to look at the woman, who is now frozen in her tracks.
Fade To Black
It's all too familiar even though I don't think we've seen it since Season 2, in "The Descent". Yeah, I think you're right; by the end of the finale Damon will be torn down. How could he not be? Just Elena leaving, no matter how that happens, would be enough to push him over the edge. And she won't be around anymore to make him want to be "the better man". Or has he changed enough to resist the above scenario?
Who knows. According to Plec, Damon and Bonnie may be on their way to being "best friends" so, since Alaric isn't usually around anymore and Enzo is a crappy excuse for a friend, maybe Bonnie can help stop a possible meltdown... if Plec wasn't exaggerating.
I would be so happy if Bonnie would be able to pull enough out of her own damaged psyche to help Damon. Bonnie is nothing else if not a good friend and if their friendship deepens she wouldn't have to be in love with Damon to want to help him. But suppose that help doesn't come before S7?
I suppose that this is just a trivial observation, but I can't remember TVD's vampires eating so often - or at all, except for french fries during Damon and Elena's road trip to Atlanta - before this season. It started with pancakes and now we're up to egg somethings. Sure, both Stefan and Damon cooked at Elena's house but did they ever put a bite of food in their mouths? I don't think so!
Maybe not so crappy. Remember some previous TVD cliffhangers:
Katherine smothered Caroline while Caro had Damon's healing blood in her after the car accident; Stefan took his first drink of blood directly from a human after Klaus made him lust for it again; Elena came back to life as a potential vampire after drowning in the river because Dr. Fell gave her vampire blood to heal her and Stefan saved Matt instead of Elena because she insisted; and speaking of drowning, let's not forget Stefan was buried in a safe at the bottom of that same damn river (or lake or whatever) so he would drown over and over again all summer. All these cliffhangers put our characters in terrible jeopardy so we would spend the summer trying to guess how they would get out of it. These so-called "cliffhangers" come straight from the Saturday afternoon serials at the movies in the 30s and 40s.
We know just how bad Damon can be when he turns off his humanity. He kills because it's in his nature and he learned to like it, but also because it's an escape valve for him. When he's not in control, he kills when he gets hurt or upset or angry because somehow killing takes away the pain - but only for a little while so he has to do it again and again. The reformed serial killer's reform could go down the tubes.
We know somehow Damon will eventually be saved if he does go off-the-rails, just like we assumed Caroline would not turn into a Vickie, Stefan would come back from the blood lust he suffered to save his brother's life, Elena would turn because her character couldn't die for real (at least back then!), and Stefan wouldn't stay trapped in that safe forever. The question - the cliffhanger if you will - was always HOW would these characters be "saved".
This is the lack of progress I'm talking about. If a large part of this series is supposed to be Damon's redemption story then they can't keep blowing things up and starting from scratch. Instead of other people bailing Damon out, he has to learn to work though this stuff in a reasonably healthy way. That kind of meltdown at this point in the series is counterproductive to the progress of the character.
OK, I guess I put too much emphasis on the "saving"! Actually I've never thought about TVD being in large part the story of Damon's redemption. Maybe you're right in the sense that TVD is the story of the Salvatore brothers. I personally think that they are the show's core. Damon has, with support (and we can all benefit from support) brought at least some of his most destructive - and self-destructive - faults under control. In the final analysis he had to do that, i.e. "work through it", himself. I don't believe that "support" is the same as "being bailed out". If he suffers a "meltdown" or a "setback" or whatever we call it, but comes back from it, I don't think that means he has completely failed to progress as a character and goes back to square one. Some people say that progress is two steps forward and one step back. And, maybe I'm just being melodramatic and he will be able to keep his head on straight after all! Isn't it interesting to make speculations and exchange ideas? Thanks for yours!
Good idea! But what's the point now? Didn't she say it wasn't important to her anymore? She meant she was falling in love with him again. And Damon said, "We'll make new memories."
There's something about that woman's expressions that are just not right, and they bother me. A lot, in fact. Sometimes I think she's trying to imply to Damon that she favors Stefan over him, in order to deliberately hurt Damon's feelings. And she succeeds. Sometimes I actually wonder if she's flirting with Damon; I mean, how much eye contact with your own son is too much? At other times she looks like she's thinking, "Oh, I know you better than you think and I'm going to use that knowledge against you". But the worst one for me is when she has the look I remember on my late mother's face when she was acting smug or superior or spiteful. Maybe she's trying to look mysterious, secretive and dangerous; if so, I think she's succeeding at that very well. Or just maybe, she a person who's not in their right mind. There's something sinister behind that woman's smiles. I guess I've just said that Annie Wersching is a terrific actress. I don't think I like Lily at all and that disappoints me to some extent, but I suppose if she were the perfect mom she wouldn't be a very interesting character. I can hardly wait to see how she acts with Stefan.
One person has speculated that Elena takes the cure, has her memories wiped (again!) and goes her merry way. I'll hate to see the season end but at least we'll know how things actually turn out, whether we like them or not.
"I guess I've just said that Annie Wersching is a terrific actress." LMFAO!!! Omg, after reading all those different descriptions then reading that finishing sentence, you slayed me. Ok I can agree on some of what you said. But the rest I just don't see. Like her favoring Stefan or the flirty looks. But the "I know you better than you think I do." I get that from her sometimes. I mean she WOULD think so. It's only natural. Honestly, I just think this woman is freaking crazy, the bitch is up to something I can feel it. And she does have a creepy look that scream psychotic. I noticed that right away. The moment she met Bonnie as a matter of fact. Kai is more sane looking than her and he's Completely wacko. (I can't believe I just said wacko). I too look forward to seeing her interactions with Stefan only b/c I can't STAND her interactions with Damon anymore!! He's had enough and I've had enough of her in his face!! If he didn't love her so damn much, I'd want him to rip her throat out.
So it appears that Lily is about to insert her motherly authority over the Salvatore Boys. This should be good. What is with those creepy prison vamps anyway? I wonder if Kai has them all wrapped around his finger by now?
I may have gone too far with the "flirty looks" bit! LOL I agree with you about Kai; as wacko (that's a good word) as he is he can't hold a candle to mama S. This woman is clearly nothing but trouble. Damon's hiding behind snarky remarks and that's always a bad sign. It means he's hiding his true feelings and/or protecting himself. He loved this woman in the past but he's not ready to trust her in the present. I think he's right.
I couldn't have said it better. I'll be there helping you hug Damon, right? You'll let me, won't you? LOL But seriously, there is definitely something wrong with that woman. She must have been very different as a human; Damon said she was his and Stefan's whole world. With the kind of father they had, that's not surprising. By the time the boys were older Damon hated his father and I think Stefan might have feared him, so he became the "good brother". I guess that was practice for later.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
And the countdown clock to all of this blowing up in Damon's face has started.
ReplyDeleteHe's gonna totally give her the cure. I think.
ReplyDeleteOMG! so forced. I hate this.
ReplyDeleteRight??

ReplyDeleteThey're going to have to back for those vampires & Kai at some point, right?
ReplyDeletenot if Damon, Elena and the gang can help it

ReplyDeletegreat actress though huh? Annie?
ReplyDeleteYes ! Annie Wersching is her name.
ReplyDeleteDamon is going down on a downward spiral-seriously i don't blame the guy! He's going to lose it very soon!
ReplyDeleteyeah i know i couldn't remember how to spell her last name
ReplyDeleteMeteor Shower = Delena RainKiss!
ReplyDeleteawesome!!!!!!!!!! maybe a memory trigger for Elena?
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I can see it now:

ReplyDeletethere wasn't even a kitchen on set until this season, now practically every scene is there.
ReplyDeleteI adore how amazing Lily is. She is so passive aggressive and adorable with a hint of devious. Should be fun to see her move into the show.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! Yes!!!
ReplyDeleteDamon's life is actually a ticking time bomb at the moment. I'll be there to give him a hug when everything blows up...-_-
