15:18 - Defiance - Season 3 - 3 new cast members added
Season three of Defiance just started production, and news from the set has three new characters joining the show for the third season. They are:
-General Rahm Tak, played by Lee Tergesen. Rahm is a ruthless and arrogant leader in the Votanis Collective (think of it as the U.N. of aliens in the future Earth of Defiance). Rahm is a Castithan, well-read, brilliant and a pure strategist who sets his very aggressive sights on the little town of Defiance. You may recognize Lee from his role as Tobias Beecher on HBO's Oz, or his recurring roles on American Horror Story: Freak Show, Desperate Housewives, The Americans, Longmire, The Big C and more.
-T'evgin, played by Conrad Coates. T'evgin is an Omec, a eighth alien race (yes, Season 3 is introducing another group of aliens!). The Omec are all kinds of badass, having been the overlords of all the other alien races (Irathients, Castithans, Indogene) before everyone fled their dying universe to come to Earth. T'evgin is the leader, so he's the king of the "Don't screw with them" Omec. Conrad Coates is known for roles in The Strain, Saving Hope, Sanctuary, Degrassi: The Next Generation, Nikita and more.
-Kindzi, played by Nichole Galicia. Kindzi is the daughter of T'evgin and thus the alpha female of the Omec race. Translation: She's all kinds of fierce and scary as hell. Nichole has appeared in the films Django Unchained, Wish I Was Here (amongst others) and on TV in shows like CSI: NY.

08:18 - Marvel Considering Animated Tie-Ins For Cinematic Universe
Last weekend at Emerald City Comic-Con during the Marvel Animation panel, Marvel VP of Animation Cort Lane reportedly told fans in attendance that the House of Ideas is exploring animated tie-ins that connect to the MCU. "I can't announce anything, but things are in the works," was Lane's reply to a fan question. Exactly what these "things" are is anyone's guess.
Could the MCU be looking to launch an animated series on Disney XD that ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Currently, Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man air on the cable network but neither of the shows have the same buzz among fans that Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes commanded. Ultimate Spider-Man is currently in its third season while Avenges Assemble is currently in the middle of its second season run. Neither show has been renewed yet.

08:04 - Grimm Postmortem: Bitsie Tulloch Says Don't Hold Your Breath For a Nick-Juliet
You’ve been playing Juliette for years now. She went from girlfriend in the dark to monster-fighting team member to hexenbiest. Has it been exciting to go through such big changes in the last couple of seasons?
I've really enjoyed it. The character got a little bit of flak in Season 1 because she was mostly passive, for lack of a better word. But it was necessary to serve the storyline and to create the conflict of Nick hiding everything from her, because he didn't really understand what was going on. Season 2 was fun playing up the amnesia and the love triangle with Captain Renard. For Season 3, Nick had let her in on everything and she became part of the Scooby squad. I was excited when they gave me scenes where I was geeking out on research, because it reminded me of Alyson Hannigan’s character on Buffy.
And now this twist was unexpected. They called me early on and said, “Just so you know, Juliette is going to the dark side.” I was like, “How dark?” They were like, “Pretty dark.” As he said it, there was a little voice cracking, so I knew they were really going to change stuff. It was a great idea to make the new villain be someone that we've grown accustomed to being stable, kind, and reliable for the last three and a half years. Now she is the opposite of all of those things.

Hmm. That Bitsie Tulloch interview is eye opening. Looks like the Grimm writers are going full steam ahead on Juliette's descent into darkness.
ReplyDeleteNice TLS poster.
ReplyDeleteThat interview has given me little hope when it comes to Juliette being cured of the curse as well as she and Nick getting back together. When Bitsie was told (in a cracking voice) by "they" that Juliette would be going "pretty dark", that seems to be a red flag. There is a point when a character is written too dark that the viable option becomes to kill that character.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like this show can't handle more that one stable couple. Why should Nick and Juliette be sacrificed because Monroe and Rosalie are happily married. I now understand why people are negatively comparing Grimm to a soap opera because that is what it's becoming. The love triangles, the never ending separation of a popular couple, and the worn out surprise pregnancy isn't doing this show any favors. I hope the writers can turn this mess around.
The promotional stuff for the show has always been pretty good IMO (and I say this as someone who hasn't gotten a chance to watch the show. But the promos and posters always make want to tune in)
ReplyDeleteRe The Messengers: Now that was a pretty badass sneak peek!
ReplyDeleteRe Marvel: Animated tie ins for the MCU? Could work... but I'd rather they keep doing live action limited series on netflix...
Re Geroge RR Martin: Can he just finish Song of Ice and Fire first, please? But it sounds interesting...
Re Young & Hungry: Wait... so Gabi and Cooper haven't slept together yet? Oh honey!
