Update: 21:05 Here are some Character Posters
HISTORY’s ten-hour television event series TEXAS RISING will detail the Texas Revolution and the rise of the legendary Texas Rangers. In 1836, west of the Mississippi was considered the Wild West and the Texas frontier was viewed as hell on earth. Crushed from the outside by Mexican armadas and attacked from within by ferocious Comanche tribes – no one was safe. But this was a time of bravery, a time to die for what you believed in and a time to stand tall against the cruel rule of the Mexican General Santa Anna. The heroic General Sam Houston, the rag tag Rangers and the legendary "Yellow Rose of Texas,” lead this story of the human will to win against insurmountable odds. At the end, the Texas flags stood tall and victorious, claiming a piece of history for all eternity.

The Alamo was not the end of the story, it was only the beginning, and TEXAS RISING details what followed in the fight for an independent Texas. In 1836, west of the Mississippi was considered the Wild West and the Texas frontier was viewed as hell on earth. With colliding cultures all fighting for stakes to this territory, no one was safe. But this was a time of bravery, a time to die for what you believed in and a time to stand tall against the fierce Mexican General Santa Anna and his forces. General Sam Houston, the rag tag Rangers and the legendary "Yellow Rose of Texas,” lead this story of the human will to fight for independence despite nearly insurmountable odds and to claim a piece of history for all eternity.
Two-time Oscar-nominated director Roland Joffé (THE KILLING FIELDS, THE MISSION) directs TEXAS RISING with an all-star cast including: Bill Paxton, Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olivier Martinez, Thomas Jane, Christopher McDonald, Jeremy Davies, Chad Michael Murray, Max Thieriot, Robert Knepper, Rhys Coiro, Crispin Glover, Jeff Fahey, Rob Morrow, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Trevor Donovan and Kris Kristofferson.
In addition to the star-studded cast, the TEXAS RISING soundtrack album will feature new music from legendary performers including the title song, “Take Me To Texas,” performed by George Strait and written by Brandy Clark, as well as Kris Kristofferson’s remake of the Tom Petty classic “Won’t Back Down” and new tracks from Jose Feliciano.
TEXAS RISING is produced by A+E Studios, ITV Studios America and Thinkfactory Media for HISTORY. Leslie Greif (HATFIELDS & MCCOYS) serves as executive producer for Thinkfactory Media. Dirk Hoogstra and Julian P. Hobbs serve as executives in charge of production for HISTORY.

Finally!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWas waiting for an announcment since it was picked up. Such a great cast I hope the story will be at least half the quality. ^_^
Looking forward to this, especially since I love the cast!
ReplyDeleteThis was released a few months ago :-)
ReplyDeleteWill watch this mostly because it will air after most of my shows' season finales and before most summer premieres, where I don't have much to watch.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds very good and JDM is in it. I am a TX woman and love the states history.
ReplyDeleteReally? Can't believe I missed th press release.
ReplyDeleteIf you type Texas Rising in the search box you should be able to locate some of the past articles etc.
ReplyDeleteWow just saw the premier date news was announced 8 months ago. No clue how I missed it.
ReplyDeleteThank U once more.
Been looking forward to this for a while, glad it's airing soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to this, and I want that soundtrack too. New music from George Strait is always a plus.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is wondering: The show has been changed from a 8hr minseries to a 10hr event series.
ReplyDeleteWow what an amazing cast! I am definitely watching this.
ReplyDeleteAwesome :D
ReplyDeleteIt's been too long since Brendan Fraser did something big, plus Paxton/Liotta/Knepper/Morgan/Jane are always a delight to see on my TV
And Kris Kristofferson is in this, what's not to love?
If they do this show the way it's supposed to be done some texans might learn a thing or two ;)
Primarily watching this for Cynthia Addai Robinson, but this looks good.
ReplyDeleteWhat does "event series" mean?
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that they ordered 2 more episodes, but what's the difference to "miniseries"?
The Emmys defines a miniseries as being more than six hours or in two or more parts. It also must be close-ended.
ReplyDeleteEvent-Series is harder to define. But basically if the ratings are good it can be renewed. Think Under the Dome, Wayaward Pins and I believe Extant. It seems to be more of a marketing name rather than something that is clearly defined.
A mini-series is a show that is limited to normally around 6 or less episodes, think Rosemary's baby, Band of brothers. It's basically like an extra long movie where the ending will always be closed. They are also one season shows.
ReplyDeleteEvent series is a show such as Dig, Under the dome, which has a limited number of episodes per season, usually 13 or less, no more than 13. They are usually just a one season thing, but if the ratings are good enough the show can get another season, like Under the dome did.
As I'm terrible at explaining things, perhaps this article will help.

Very impressive cast. These History channel scripted series are very well made. Looking forward to checking this out. I have to assume they had enough footage/story for 2 extra hours while editing the show. This type of series is shot so far in advance that there is no way they could all of the sudden order more episodes.
ReplyDeleteSounds and looks interesting. I think I'll give it a try when May rolls in.
