We’re a quarter of the way through the new BBC Three supernatural drama offering, and I’m still no closer to working out how on earth this makes up for cancelling In the Flesh. What looks like a great premise on paper is being dragged out a little too much for my liking, a bit more pace and a lot less exposition would hold my attention and have me more invested in the characters I feel. The next episode does see the main characters relocating to the mainland, giving us a chance to see more action and a change of dynamics however.
Budgie has problems of his own meanwhile, in the shape of some black pearls that he half inched from Dries house when the lads were there to get the Tavi last week. The ambiguous bar owner continues to be my favourite character in the series, making this yet another show where I seem to be rooting for the villains of the piece this season. He’s not quite as complex Rochefort or George Warleggan, but he’s certainly a man of many faces as Budgie is about to find out!
Episode 3 airs on Sunday 26th April at 10pm on BBC Three and Saturday May 2nd on BBC America at 10pm.

Thanks for the preview. I have only seen parts of "In the Flesh" so I don't really have any emotional connection to it but I've seen lots of people refuse to watch this because of that show being canceled. So far I've enjoyed this show, it's different. The pace doesn't really bother me, but, the slowness would be more effective if the show was a bit different tonally, it kind of feels like the cinematographer thinks he's working on a different show or something, ha.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome :) I think it's a shame if people aren't giving Tatau a go due to ItF not being renewed, it's not going to make a difference to the shows prospects now unfortunately :( I'm still hoping that an independent will pick it up for S3 and give a chance however.
ReplyDeleteReading what I've written today, now I'm a bit less tired, I do sound a bit crotchety in my preview. I am finding the story compelling, and enjoy that side of it a fair bit, but like you say, the tone if a bit skew-whiff.
The slow drip of clues is also a tad frustrating at times, what exactly is Lara up to with the spying - is she an undercover cop, or what? And what's Tyler's deal with the Rev. Calcott? If they were a bit more subtle with them I think I wouldn't be so annoyed, but it seems to be very "Look, see what we're doing here!" and then "we're not going to tell you what it's about though...", lol.
