Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence. Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.
-Winners:
“Dancing With the Stars” (ABC), “The Voice” (NBC), “Scorpion” (CBS)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“The Originals” (CW), “The Following” (Fox), “Jane the Virgin” (CW), “The Night Shift” (NBC)

Ratings Breakdown:
It was a typical Monday in the household overnights with ABC dominating thanks to “Dancing With the Stars” and NBC the network to beat in all the key young adult demographics thanks to “The Voice.” Healthy “Dancing With the Stars” scored a 9.5 rating/15 share in households from 8-10 p.m., with each of the four half-hours at that 9.5 rating. Comparably, that was consistent from one year earlier. Competing “The Voice” averaged a 6.9/11 in the two-hour block, which was also on par from the year-ago night. In other words, both “Dancing With the Stars” and “The Voice” are poised for more success next season.
Tops in the 10 p.m. hour was “NCIS: Los Angeles” on CBS at a 5.6/ 9, which inched past fading “Castle” on ABC (5.5/ 9) by one-tenth of a rating point. In the distant No. 3 spot was failing sophomore “The Night Shift” on NBC at a 3.4/ 6, which was 51 percent below the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Voice” (6.9/10).
Considering that Nathan Fillion has signed a new contract, chances of an eighth season for “Castle” are probable. But ABC would be wise to utilize “Castle” on another night at this point to free-up the “Dancing With the Stars” lead-out spot for something new.
Earlier in the evening on CBS were sitcoms “2 Broke Girls” (#3: 4.8/ 8) and “Mike & Molly” (#3: 5.2/ 8) from 8-9 p.m. into the season-finale of drama “Scorpion” at a solid (and third-place) 6.9/10. Congratulations on all involved on “Scorpion” for a very successful first season.
Elsewhere, both Fox and The CW were flat from one week earlier. Fox aired already renewed freshman drama “Gotham” (#4: 3.3/ 5 at 8 p.m.), which has lost its early season buzz, into tired “The Following” (#4: 2.3/ 3 at 9 p.m.), which is unlikely to return for a fourth season. And The CW populated the night with dramas “The Originals” (#5: 1.0/ 2 at 8 p.m.) into critically acclaimed “Jane the Virgin” (#5: 0.8/ 1 at 9 p.m.), which…worth repeating….is the new show this season most worthy of a larger audience.

ReplyDeleteMarc always cracks me up with those JtV jocks.
ReplyDeleteGlad TO rose a bit, hope it translates into the demo.
Really appreciate you stating so ;)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks regular. Hoping for increases for Scorpion and Gotham.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Scorpion went out on a high. It was a really good episode.
ReplyDeleteIt also looks like the CW had another disappointing Monday. I hope their Tuesday and Wednesday nights are much better.
“Jane the Virgin” (#5: 0.8/ 1 at 9 p.m.), which…worth repeating….is the new show this season most worthy of a larger audience.
ReplyDeleteWe get it, you like Jane the Virgin. Please stop repeating it.
The Originals had a 0.44 last week, so it really was unlucky to be stuck in 0.4 in rounded numbers. Just a tiny bit of growth should put it back at 0.5, which while still not good, is more passable.
ReplyDeleteI hope Arrow goes up this week. I absolutely despise when it is sub 1!
ReplyDelete“Jane the Virgin” (#5: 0.8/ 1 at 9 p.m.), which…worth repeating….is the new show this season most worthy of a larger audience.
ReplyDeleteNo, it's not worth repeating every week without fail.
Me too. I love Arrow/SPN, Flash/iZombie nights. It's spring, I'm not unrealistic but I hope for higher numbers from all 4.
ReplyDeleteScorpion is up 15% from last week in the HH. That really good.
ReplyDeleteScorpion is up 15% in the HH from last week.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! I am just happy i was not spoiled abour revenge last nifht
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see how it does in the demos
ReplyDeleteThe spring drop really hit TO hard, after VD probably the hardest. The Jayley wedding drove shipper fans away and the ratings declined ever since.
ReplyDeleteI hope things turn around next year and the show rebounds, even if the show shifts to Fridays.
Scorpion looks good
ReplyDeleteNothing unusual for the rest of the lineup.
Am I the only who finds mondayratings to be boring? I guess that is because i do not watch anything on mondays
ReplyDeleteVery happy for Scorpion!
ReplyDeleteHoping for 2.3-2.4
ReplyDeleteI have been missing HIMYM from Monday ratings, no matter how much I disliked the finale.
ReplyDeleteHe's like an old relic record player that skips on 45's. I mean, God forbid, any of us are unable to comprehend simple sentences and didn't grasp it the first time he said it.
ReplyDeleteYeah I wasn't as lucky with OUAT unfortunately though. But I believe this can be improved with Andy's helpful reminders.
ReplyDeleteAfter I gave up on TO I have the same feeling.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably because you don't watch anything I would say, I don't find it boring.
ReplyDeleteWow, they did go out on a high. I can't wait for the demo's.
ReplyDeleteGo Scorpion! Hope to see it go up in demo too. Was a really good finale!
ReplyDeleteI think that is aiming too high, although I would love that. I hope for a 2.2.
ReplyDeleteIt's stale I would say. Things don't shift to much.
ReplyDeleteBesides Gotham's bigger drop last week and NS failure Mondays are pretty stale.
No, I'm sure you're not. It's the same for me reading Sunday ratings. Those poor/mediocre numbers always bore me. Unless football or TWD was on. Even Thursday's bore me because I don't watch anything on that night.
ReplyDeleteOther than maybe Thursdays, I would say the same applies to pretty much every night, no? I mean, the winners and losers don't really change much
ReplyDeleteMe too, but it got a 1.9 last week so I'm gonna say a 2.1 or 2.2. CBS has gotta be satisfied with how its done s1. It's in a tough slot up against the reality shows and high but has managed to hold its own, altho it has slipped this Spring.
ReplyDeleteSo, any guesses which show CBS is going to air after the Superbowl next year? I say Supergirl.
ReplyDeleteThey seem to have quite a few young skewing concept shows (for their standards that is). Super Girl, Limitless and Rush Hour all seem adequate.
ReplyDeleteSame goes for me. Someone posted it in the revenge Post and it made me a bit angry because why would you spoil that?
ReplyDeleteThat's great for Scorpion, it did very well
ReplyDeleteI think so too. When do they normally announce that anyway? Mid-season?
ReplyDeleteThe Spring decline, compared to the fall decline, has actually been minimal compared to other shows (just 10%). It's more that it perked up more than usual in the Winter (voice hiatus + high viewing levels) which bias our perception.
ReplyDelete- First two episodes: 3.15
- Fall: 2.21
- Winter: 2.46
- Spring: 1.98
It depends. Sometimes it is announced even during the upfronts (like this year with the blacklist), other times it is announced only in October/ November
ReplyDeleteNBC announced it at the upfronts but CBS announced for Elementary in November back in 2012.
ReplyDeleteI think people don't do it on purpose, they just forget. But I believe the mentality can be changed over time. The episode was still so, so good that I didn't mind actually. And the best twist of the episode wasn't spoiled for me anyway. But let's not talk about it here ;)
ReplyDeleteOn Tuesday's I'm vague about iZombie and FotB, Wdays The100 and Arrow (worrying about every single viewer), Fridays have TM now and Sundays Abc line up.
ReplyDeleteSo everyday there is something to worry about. Monday is just Monday. I worry about TF but hmmm can't do much about it.
What will CBS air in the Scorpion slot next week?
ReplyDeleteThanks. I think I remember being surprised at Elementary getting that spot back then. I hope they go with Supergirl this year.
ReplyDeleteStalker
ReplyDeleteStalker.
ReplyDeleteI do Not Mind Marc praisig his shows and I am Glad to always have his analysis. However, cut out your Personal opinion of shows. It does not belong in an analysis
ReplyDeleteIs it Stalker rerun?
ReplyDeleteOriginal Stalker comes on 4th May.
Repeats or remaining episodes?
ReplyDeleteMost of the shows you mention are ridiculously stable though, way more than most Monday shows. The 100 is probably the best example of that, since the show barely moved in the ratings the entire season. iZombie is also pretty stable. I think what you are saying is that you have ratings to worry about on those days and not on Monday but that doesn't mean the Monday ratings fluctuate less than on the other days, it's just that you care less about it.
ReplyDeleteThe easy answer to that is that there are 4 hours of reality shows airing on Mondays, which is more than any other night, thus leaving less room for scripted shows for you to carry about.
CBS pushes "Stalker" return up to Monday.
ReplyDeleteYeah okay. I have not watched it yet anyway :D
ReplyDeleteRemaining episodes
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. I just saw the promo for it during Scorpion last night.
ReplyDeleteYou must, it's phenomenal ;)
ReplyDeleteIt comes back earlier? Had no clue! Thank U.
ReplyDeleteEven though I would prefer a rerun, as a reminder for people.
I will tonight probably
ReplyDeleteYeah it's a new episode with NCIS:LA, they pushed it forward for a week.
ReplyDeleteDitto!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what part of it is related with TVD's drop itself. They have seemed to decline almost at the same pace, both last year and this year. Perhaps when people give up on one, they give up on the other as well?
ReplyDeleteI guess it depends on whether CBS bother to advertise it and people know its back, but what do u think Stalker might get in the 9pm Mon slot next week? I'm thinking a 1.6 or 1.7?
ReplyDelete1.2
ReplyDeleteYeah what U said.
ReplyDeleteOverall this year (besides hoping for bigger numbers for Reign, The100 and TO in these last couple of eps) my shows had amazing ratings and I honestly didn't have to worry at all. None of my shows will get canned besides The Messengers and Stalker.
There was a few promos yesterday. So people could expect it. No idea about rating, just hoping not to screw up NCIS:LA.
ReplyDeleteBig jump for Scorpion season finale!
ReplyDeleteMay be vampires just going out of fashion in general.
ReplyDeleteI think that is part of it, yes.
ReplyDeleteNo way.
ReplyDeleteHmmm no clue honestly. Both shows did well storywise at least from my pov, it included some pushy stories (Jayley and stuff) but really both held a strong level of storytelling.
ReplyDeleteWho cares? It's been years since it's actually translated long term.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what to expect from next week. Doubt it will benefit much from it's lead in but still hope to hit 1,5 or higher.
ReplyDeleteBetween 1.2 and 1.4
ReplyDeleteIn the end, all of them will skew old because CBS.
ReplyDeleteSo +12% for CW isn't looking very good :(
ReplyDeleteI agree. That is why said young skewing shows, for their standards. Scorpion-esque basically.
ReplyDeleteI highly doubt that when it wasn't even able to do that on Wednesdays, before a move, pre DST, with a better lead-in(more compatible and higher rated), less competition and before a huge hiatus. I would love so but I highly doubt it happens.
ReplyDeleteAgree, I didn't even like the premise but I gave it like 5 episodes anyways because people kept saying it was better than it seemed, and it was in a way, but only cause I had the worst expectations, it's still definitely not good enough for me to keep watching.
ReplyDeleteSadly U're most likely right. Still hoping that the dvr viewers come and safe day ;-)
ReplyDeleteWow Scorpion looks way up, happy for it, I adore the show and last night's episode was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteBut that was 10pm
ReplyDeletehttp://www.showbuzzdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Demo-Profile-2015-MON.20-Apr-e1429628324982.png
ReplyDeleteScorpion: 2.1
ReplyDeleteI tried the pilot, switched off about 15 mins into it, didn't like it at all. Definitely not for me.
ReplyDeleteWinners: Scorpion, Dancing with the Stars, The Voice
ReplyDeleteHonorable Mention: 2 Broke Girls, Mike and Molly, Gotham
Losers: Jane the Virgin, NCIS Los Angeles, Castle, The Night Shift
I was expecting a little more for Scorpion but glad it got above 2.0. Hoping it doesn't become the victim of sophomore slump next season.
ReplyDeleteThat is the only positive there is and there is a myriad of negatives as I've said on my previous post.
ReplyDeleteThought Scorpion would be higher based on HH but still happy for it. Can't wait for next season.
ReplyDeleteI would put Gotham as loser
ReplyDeleteThe Following is up from last week. Still not good, but it's something.
ReplyDeleteI think CBS should have one main goal for the upfronts: don't freaking move Scorpion. It's the biggest drama hit they've had since CSI Miami, if they screw with it they are complete idiots.
ReplyDeleteIt will be the second highest rated program on FOX, it self starts at 8 post DST and it has a male audience that ensures its profitability (much like AOS). I would have liked it to uptick but this is perfectly fine for FOX and worthy of honorable mention, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteDoes The Voice go down every week
ReplyDeleteI think it would have performed better for the season if they didn't strand it with Gotham repeats for such a long period of time. It wouldn't have done well, but it would have done better than it did I think.
ReplyDeleteABC should move Castle
ReplyDeleteI agree in principle but I disagree on practice. Unless they do what I wish they would do and turn Nashville into a winter/ summer show, there is no place to move Castle to.
ReplyDeletelooks like the following is UP. it was such a good episode last night, as was Scorpion (I had to DVR the Following).
ReplyDeleteand those numbers for the Voice don't look so hot.
Ugh Gotham, why?! :(
yep
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. It still would have been down from last season, but it could have at least gotten around the 1.1-1.3 range, I think.
ReplyDeleteWow that's terrible for The Voice (relatively speaking). Scorpion holding on their well, and The Night Shift looking less and less dependent on its leadin. Though if The Blacklist was still there it could have even grown from The Voice.
ReplyDeleteNo they should end the show. Its getting way to long in the tooth
ReplyDeletelast night's episode was very good. I'll take the slight bump. FOX was really stupid to pair it with so many Gotham repeats.
ReplyDeleteExcept for that horrible 0.9 week, 1.1 is what it got in the weeks following Gotham (R) so I think it would have done a 1.3-1.4 rather consistently had it followed Gotham (O).
ReplyDeleteHappy to see Scorpion rise although was hoping for a 2.2 or more, so fingers crossed it gets adjusted up. Still good though.
ReplyDeleteStrange drop for NCIS LA to 1.4 with a stronger lead in than last week. Wonder why that was?
Good for Scorpion. The Voice keeps going down. Bad for LA.
ReplyDeleteSyndication power: The Following at 1.2 is dead, Bones at 1.0 has been considered a likely renewal.
Usually yes towards the end
ReplyDeleteCastle being back to originals is my guess.
ReplyDeleteI don't see it doing as well in the same slot next season though, although I also think they should probably keep it where it is. The Voice and DWTS will probs be steady year on year, whereas the CBS comedies will probably drop, if 2BG and M&M. There'll be the early TBBT boost I guess, as long as the comedy before Scorpion doesn't do another The Millers!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, forgot last week was a repeat. The 2 shows def share some of its audience
ReplyDeleteAt least both CW shows were up from last week, hope it holds in the finals!
ReplyDeleteNCIS LA normally airs on Tuesdays, no? I'm guessing that's why
ReplyDeleteYep, you're right I've just checked it's ratings. A 1.3-1.4 wouldn't have been that bad at all. It's frustrating that FOX did this.
ReplyDeleteThey could have at least given SH a double episode finale, and a double episode premiere for TF that way at least it would mean less new episodes following a Gotham repeat.
Do you think there is any chance of a renewal or do you think it's dead in the water?
Scorpion had a big jump in the 18-34. I guess people who would usually DVR were tuning in to watch the finale on the night?!
ReplyDeleteWell Scorpion did end the season on a high note!
ReplyDeleteWell deserved too. It was a great episode!
This is not about the ratings of last night but it pertains to renewal and cancellation discussions..
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/david_boreanaz/status/589264758479527936
I don't like this.
Not a lot of surprises here. Good for Scorpion and the rest of CBS did alright as well. I knew the Night Shift would go down with Castle and NCIS LA having new episodes. Also not surprised by Castle's numbers as well. Wonder what they will do for rest of season after that episode. It's not just syndication that's the reason Bones may get renewed over Following. FOX owns Bones, they do not own Following and The Following is no where near syndication numbers to warrant a renewal. Bad night all around for FOX. I know Gotham DVR'S well but not good numbers for them at all
ReplyDeleteNext week looks good as well. They could have cut down the amount of new TF episodes following a Gotham repeat by airing a double episode premiere for the show & a double episode finale for SH.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is dead in the water because I didn't think things looked good enough last year for a super early renewal and it got one, so I tend to think the behind the scenes here are more favorable than we might see at first glance. This being said, this is still bad, so that only means I don't have the show as a certain cancellation but rather as a likely one, even if the end result is still the same, which is an expectation of a cancellation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the scheduling of Sleepy Hollow, that was super dumb.
This sounds like a goodbye to me!
ReplyDeleteWell that's ominous.
ReplyDeleteIf they luck out on the comedy that the place at 8h30 the whole night could benefit.
ReplyDeleteThat is sad for bones but 10 seasons is an excellent run! Especially for a FOX show
ReplyDeleteI am really loosing shows this year!
ReplyDeleteI know :( but you know what i am fine with revenge ending. I will miss it more than i can describe but it is coming full circle and after what happened in "Burn" it cannot continue. I will always remember it though
ReplyDeleteI am really into it right now and I have been reminiscing about past seasons and all so I have made my peace and I am fine with it. It will still annoy me to have it officially as a cancellation instead of an ending, but to me there was enough warning for me to have closure I will still miss it though.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Put Supergirl after it and a great Monday line up.
ReplyDeleteI am always into it so it will be really hard. I agree about the cancellation. It makes it Sound like a cheap show cancelled due to bad ratings
ReplyDeleteGlad TO rose. Well deserved
ReplyDeleteThe Virgin is steady, no?
ReplyDeleteYeah, be interesting which show they go for. I'd put MOM at 8.30, after 2BG. Keep M&M for when a comedy fails on Thurs! But M&M and Scorpion have paired pretty well together
ReplyDeleteYeah exactly. Which is actually true and all, but for me I would prefer have it as an ending thing. Doesn't really matter though since I am now enjoying it as an ending.
ReplyDeleteExactly :) I mean it Has been having the most buzz this week than ever. In the top 3 here and everywhere else people are talking about it
ReplyDeleteyes! I totally agree. FOX's ridiculous programming schedule has really hurt their shows this season. so frustrating!
ReplyDeleteNo, they need Mom on Thursdays and that show needs to stop moving already IMO. With TBBT moving to Mondays at 8 for October again, they should just do TBBT | New Comedy | Scorpion and then replace TBBT with 2 Broke Girls later on. Hold M&M for a rainy day.

@Andy, maybe make a post for the Bones tweet that I posted below, no?
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but from reading the Deadline pilot buzz peace (which I know is early days!) it doesn't sound like there's many good potential comedy pilots in the pipeline
ReplyDeleteMoved to mondays this season.
ReplyDeleteNew Orleans airs on tuesdays.
My bad,Yes-Jane was steady.
ReplyDeleteNot too bad for 2 BGs,Jane,TO
ReplyDeleteI think 0.4 for The Virgin is still bad.
ReplyDeleteIf that is true, Bones finale will suck so much. I hate finales with open questions like what will happen.
ReplyDeleteHart said what he wrote can serve both as series and season finale.
ReplyDeleteand 0.5 is bad as well
ReplyDeleteIt's not good but it's less bad.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's not great, but it's only a tenth behind TO and it's been pretty stable at 0.4-0.6 all season. Its not not a new low,so that's something.
ReplyDeleteYeah it can but doesn't mean it's good. Not for me, I read what he said, btw.
ReplyDeleteHmm, was hoping Scorpion would do a couple of tenths higher. And LA hits a series low, that's too bad. Let's hope Stalker won't drag it down too much.
ReplyDeleteI'm worried about Gotham. I know it's renewed, but it fell a lot.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the first fourteen episodes, and while I like Gotham, only the pilot and the episode 'Penguin's Umbrella' made me think 'Wow, this is great'. I CW's The Flash so far
I hate that CBS comedies are not getting 2`s. The Original and Jane up from those dreadfull numbers of last week.
ReplyDeleteIf this is the end, I can't wait to see DB in another role, preferably an action series. I was never able to get into this one.
ReplyDeleteYes the execs at Bones have said that this episode could be series finale, however I still don't think it will. Boreanaz has over the years done stuff like this insinuating that he will leave or he is thinking he wont be back. And yes personally if this would be their finale it IS going to suck because we wont get to see their baby(Nathan stated Brennan wouldn't be giving birth this season).Until FOX says they are done I will not believe anything that comes down, especially from Boreanaz
ReplyDeleteYes every season towards the end it keeps going down.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they'll screw with it. I read that their making moves to protect it.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. Scorption is a great show. People seemed to really love the finale and everyone is saying they can't wait until season 2, so I think it will be okay as long as CBS promootes it and doesn't move it to another night.
ReplyDeleteWell that's why - you don't watch anything on Monday so you don't care about Monday's ratings.
ReplyDeletelol! This! People said this guy was biased towards JTV. I see they were speaking the truth.
ReplyDeleteSo glad someone else isn't impressed with Gotham either. I have most of it on my DVR with no motivation to watch - except Robin Lloyd. The acting is just that much better on The Flash imho....
ReplyDeletePerhaps. I wasn't expecting an early renewal for it anyway. I wouldn't mind one more season to wrap things up, but you never know this season could end with a satisfying conclusion.
ReplyDeleteCan I ask why my comment was removed?
ReplyDelete
