Heartbreaking ending. If you missed it, read the article I posted with THR, it seems Noel Fisher might not be returning, nothing's set in stone though :( Hats off to Noel though, him and Cameron were exceptional this season.
I liked how Bianca left all her material possessions on the beach and just walked naked into the ocean, as if the waves would take her away, truly poetic and gave you a sense of something bigger than just us. We come into the world empty handed and in return leave so.
The scene with Fiona and Debbie, extremely powerful and bold. Emmy & Emma were brilliant in the scene. She questioned her, and like many teenagers in poverty, they assume escaping it will make them happy, even if this means having a baby at such a young age.
I don't even know how to react. I liked the ending to frank and Bianca but the whole ian not caring that mickey is being shot at seemed the opposite of what the episode was building up to. I hope mickey is back next year finding happiness some other way.
Ian's reaction to Mickey was horrible. He didn't even seem to care that Sammi was shooting at Mickey and could have possibly shot and killed him! What was up w/that?
I know Ian has issues and is sick, but Mickey deserves better IMO. As you said, I thought Ian seeing his mother in her life would help him realize he needs help, bu the just dumps Mickey?!?! Okay. I'm over Ian and his issues.
I'm also completely over Fiona and her fickle nature! Debbi was right about Fiona. Fiona is a horrible role model and parent. No wonder Debbi's off having sex and making babies. She has NO parental guidance! It's ridiculous.
Ian treated Mickey horribly during that break up scene. I can't even... As upset as I am that they're broken up, it's the way it was written that has me so angry. As much as Mickey has been there for Ian, he deserved better, for Ian to at least act like he cares about Mickey.
I hate the message they've sent out about this too, that medicine is the villain, and anyone wanting you to get treatment for something wrong is somehow not loving the real you. What about when the depression becomes suicidal or the mania becomes dangerous? Both situations we've seen. God, I really thought the writers were going somewhere with Ian dealing with this.
I miss Fiona from the first couple seasons, when she took care of everyone, or at least tried to. She's went from being mature for her age to being a selfish idiot. I used to really love her character. :( I know the Gallagher's are supposed to be their own worse enemy, but damn, no one is ever happy. It's hard to watch.
Look for all of you saying this season was a huge and awful mess, don't even go there. This season was better than most of the horrendous crap that's actually airing on other networks on television. I actually really enjoyed this finale, it's probably their best finale. That being said, I do see where the people who are disappointed with it are coming from. This season was messy, indecisive, uneven, and disproportionate. It made me wonder why the gallaghers were doing things that were so unlike their characters, I felt the like the first four season knew were it was going and I understood its motivations. This season was a hard pill to swallow, the writers are seriously going to have to work overtime fixing so many inconsistencies that Season 5 threw at us. Hope all of this isn't the downfall of this amazing series!
I can't believe anyone can be that bad of a shot but Sammy managed to shoot everything but the target that was right in front of her. He wasn't moving that fast for her to miss. Fiona downright pisses me off with all the bad choices she makes. No wonder Deb doesn't have any respect for her skanky ass.
Ironic: I feared about Cameron and his conflicting schedule (Gotham and Shameless) during all season and, maybe, the one who won't return so often is NOEL.
I really hope they can adjust Mickey's arc in some ways during next season. They both do an incredible job this season. Really outstanding.
I'm not such a romantic person (I cherish friendship more) so they brought to life in me uknown and beautiful feelings. They are amazing, so believable and, oh boy, they hurt so much.
You can tell that it was originally written that Ian and Mickey get back together at the end of the finale (literally by Ians disgust of Monica throught the episode) but then noels contract situation came up and they had to change the ending because of the possibility he may not return at all or atleast for the first half of the season. I knew something was completely wrong with that ending then I realized what it was after that article about Noel possibly not returning came out.
the best word to describe this episode is anticlimactic. The scene between Mickey and Ian was way too short, really so so written and interrupted by the worst character in the history of this show...What a let down.
can you give a link to the info that he may not be returning? If that was THE VERY LAST scene of this character, I will not be returning next season to watch it. Seriously, it was terribly written.
yeah, that was the best summary of one of the worst written scene, so off the character the writers has been building since season one! This guy was so heartbroken by Mickey getting married that he left and joined the army. His disease does not explain this behavior, is he over mickey all of a sudden? This behavior at the end, the way he did not care if mickey got shot or not.
Yep, its a question of scheduling for Noel, heres the link, first paragraph, its also posted on this site too :) Shameless Finale - Boss on Ian & Mickey's Heartbreak, Debbie's Decision & More with THR
OMG, so I dont even need to pretend i hate this movie...sequel to that crap? Wish him well, but that amazing story whould be given better written ending, breaking up or not it was pure mess...Such a wasted opportunity
The Bianca story really humanized Frank for me. He'd always been such a caricature, never grounded. William Macy is always fantastic, of course. But the character is so broad and hard to identify and empathize with. The scene on the beach was incredibly moving. I'm sure Frank has never had someone say something like that to him before. I'm gonna miss her too. She's been a delight.
Like you, I didn't mind Ian and Mickey breaking up but the scene was just so devoid of emotion on Ian's part that it was awful to watch. And you can't blame the meds b/c he wasn't taking his medication, right? He should be brimming w/emotion but he just coldly dumped Mickey and then went into his house while Sammi chased and shot at Mickey?!?! Plus, was there a reason he made Mickey come to him just to get dumped?!?!? He couldn't go to Mickey's house and dump him there!?!?
Plus, the break up wasn't earned IMO. They should have done the bipolar diagnosis over the summer and started the season w/Ian struggling w/the meds. I thought Ian wanted to take his meds. He gets picked up by the MPs and suddenly doesn't want the meds anymore?!?! Huh?
Even if NF returns, I'm not sure I would want to see Ian/Mickey reunite. I know Ian has a mental illness but I don't see that as giving him a pass to treat people like crap or randomly assault them like he did last week. Where is Ian's story going anyway? Is he just not going to take his meds? Is Fiona really going to enable him that way? Probably since she won't likely be around. I know this is a comedy but I hope the show actually shows the effects of someone not taking their bipolar meds.
Apparently, he has not re-signed w/the show. CM even tweeted a good-bye to him and spoke about how much fun they had working together the past five years so it would seem NF is definitely not returning anytime soon.
so that lame scene was his very last one? They ruined the best story of this show they have been building for the past five years...its like they said to the fans "fuck it. We are to lazy to come up with better conclusion, lets just have sammi chase him, and Ian be like he never cared"
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Loved it. Sad ending... goofy ending... SHAMELESS ending.
ReplyDeleteawful season, awful finale, great acting. let's hope the next one will be better.

Season five WAS THE WORST PIECE OF TELEVISION EVER. It's going to be almost impossible to fix this mess for next season.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know how to react. I liked the ending to frank and Bianca but the whole ian not caring that mickey is being shot at seemed the opposite of what the episode was building up to. I hope mickey is back next year finding happiness some other way.

Several wonderful scenes--e.g. Bianca and Frank--but also an extremely disappointing note to end on.
ReplyDeleteA review/more thoughts: http://polarbearstv.com/2015/04/05/shameless-love-songs-in-the-key-of-gallagher-review-5x12/
Fiona is a mess. She loves one man and will not let the other one go.
ReplyDeleteLip is worse, he loves no one and uses everyone.
Kevin needs to talk less and have sex more, V the same.
Ian needs to get his act together and let love find him.
Mickey needs to go soon before dad gets out of jail.
Debs needs Ethel back to remind her what it is like to be a teen mom.
Wishing Karen and Mandy would come back and settle things if possible.
And for goodness sake let Bianca be a pearl diver in remission or who has a doppelganger who takes pity on Frank.
Look for all of you saying this season was
