Great episode. Was so happy that Root took care of Martine for good. My only disappointment is that tonight's episode and next week's finale aren't aired back-to-back.

  4. Omg!!! Martine!!!!!! I literally applauded when Root finally gave that little wench what she deserved!!! Such a great episode! :)

  8. The season dragged a bit, i think my brain has got too used to the tight storylines of cable television, but man, this episode reminded me what I love so much of POI. When the show is at its best, there is no better television, awesome episode!

  9. Excellent episode. It was entertaining from start to finish with brilliant acting performances. It is one of the best quality programs on broadcast TV.

I knew the show would pick up speed once it hit the home stretch.

  11. And. Here. We. Go.

  12. I thought that showdown in the hospital room where Greer used the humanity that Harold had given the machine to force the machine to sacrifice itself for Harold and Root was very moving.

  13. True testament to the writers for successfully running 3 parallel storylines without making any of them feel rushed.

  14. Brilliant episode.

  15. Awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Root killing Martine (Hell Yeah!!!!)

  16. Outstanding. How was that not the season finale? Freaking unbelievably good stuff.

Is it just me or was that the first time The Machine has spoken in plain text English to anyone before?

  17. Brilliant episode that set up what should be an amazing finale. What a great way to parallel Elias/Dominic and Samaritan/Machine, and I loved Root snapping Martine's neck.

  18. Poor root, she now knows shaw is alive and almost got to her. but that got her out of the building right as she got to the room. root saw her outside through the window. so heartbreaking.

  19. Lots of really interesting cool stuff. I keep finding myself wondering if The Machine's "humanity" means that Samaritan is less of a complete AI or just a villain. It never surprises me that Samaritan's chief minion (apologies I cannot remember that man's name just that he reminds me of Cigarette Smoking Man on X-Files) considers humanity a weakness but it does startle me when he applies that dismissiveness to himself.

I can't believe they broke Shaw. Say it ain't so and she's gonna prove to have been playing them.

I can't remember Dominic making this many serious miscalculations. Getting Dom to kill his long time friend and second isn't all of Elias' plan. Thinking Reese and Fusco "belong" to him cause he said? Hubris. I know Dominic knows the meaning. In his arrogance he's tossed the concept around as he was belittling his enemies. :-) Kind of fun hearing them discuss Reese and Fusco's "boss" as though The Machine were a person operating in the world of organized crime.

Having The Machine bargain for Harold and Root's lives directly was somehow more touching for me.

  20. I cheered when Root snapped Martine's neck. I can't believe I was so engrossed when Samaritan gave that 60 second warning and the machine highjacked the power and decided to give herself up. This is two AI's we are talking about and we don't have actors representing them. Yet it was so emotional and charged. Great great episode. Also loved Elias's revenge against Dominic. Just can't wait for the next episode.

    ReplyDelete
  21. One question that hasn't been answered: was that really Sameen asking for help? Or did Samaritan imitate her voice? Or did Team Samaritan really "turn" Sameen and she led Team Machine into this trap willingly?

    ReplyDelete
  22. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. The finale is going to be explosive.

    ReplyDelete
  23. My guess it was really Sameen. I am just hoping she has gone undercover for the machine (unlikely, but a man can dream).

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jesus....don't mess with Root at all, haha.

I really enjoy the team-ups of Finch/Root and Reese/Fusco but I sure do hope all four are together in the last moments of next wee's episode.

Just a really amazing episode....POI continues to be strong ever since that arc back in S2.

  25. Amazing episode! Control is so badass, Dominic got fooled twice, and the Machine sacrificed itself to save her people.
My only one complaint about this episode is Martine's death. I mean I like Martine, yeah she is one of bad guys, but she is one of those bad guys that you just like for some reason. I expected more of her when she's was going to fight Root one-on-one, but usually gets her ass handed to herself. The way she died was anti-climatic, but then again coming to my sense that sometimes sh*t just happens like that. Not everybody is gonna go out in a epic fight. In words of Ra's Al Ghul from Batman Begins: " Death does not wait for you to be ready! Death is not considerate, or fair!" The way Martine died kind of fits because she is one of those antagonist that are full of themselves and they just don't see the possibility of getting killed.
Oh well, sucks that I won't get to see more of her, but on to to the season finale.

  26. It was again their A Game (finally). I wouldn't repeat the positive things previously mentioned (I fully agree with them), there is only one thing which hit me hard and I hope it's not what it seems.

In the end sequence when Shelley talked about the Correction she said "for some this will be the end. ... But for others' a rebirth." At the second part we saw Shaw's face in the rear view mirror, but for the first part it was Fusco, laying on the ground. I hope it wasn't some kind of foreshadowing.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That could've been the season finale for all intents and purposes and I would've been satisfied. Absolutely cannot wait until next week.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The machine spoke to Harold via his phone before, but never more than one word, really.

    ReplyDelete
  29. CORRECTION IS COMING. - so sayeth the Lord Samaritan.

I am rendered almost speechless. My hands are shaking (from all the tension). My head is spinning (the Machine gave it self up) and my heart, it is aching (Shaw seems to have been broken). What a phenomenal episode. This episode was off the charts epic.

What amazing Control scenes. What an amazing interrogation. What a moment when Control showed that woman a picture of her in the White House. What a dark foreboding warning by that Samaritan agent.

What a cunning game by Elias. Ever since the Brotherhood were introduced in this season, I have thought that Dominic would be a good change( for the show's criminal representation) if he manages to overcome Elias but this episode showed that Elias is the true kingpin. The way in which he played Dominic into killing one of his most trusted man, Link was Machiavellian. What will happen now? Dominic can send Elias's men to their death by passing that message in the canister. Elias is ready to blow up everything along with him. How will Reese, Fusco and Harper get out of this? Speaking of Harper, I was as pleasantly surprised as Reese was when she did not betray the location of Harold's safe house. All thanks to Ms. Thornhill's deal with her.

Everything else with Root and Harold was simply fantabulous. I can't even form words to describe the events. So amazing .So epic.

Root played chicken with the Machine and won - awesome.
Root snapped Martine's neck like a twig - epic. But I am still sad. Martine was awesome.
The Machine sacrificed itself to save Harold and Root. It negotiated with Samaritan for their lives- it left me teary eyed.

Shaw is alive and physically healthy- YAY!!! but it looks like she has been mentally broken - I shudder to think what Samaritan has done with her.

Finally, I go back once more to the Correction. What is it? Mass cleansing of human life - anyone Samaritan thinks as deviant/aberrant? Mass programming of human life to be mindless slaves? What could be it?

Is Shaw mentally broken? What has been to her? Sarah Shahi, please, pretty please come back as soon as possible.

Guys, I am quite late to the party (damn real life) but I would love to hear your thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Methinks, Shaw has been broken. Mentally that is. See how passive she was as she was led to the car and how quietly she was sitting in the car as it journeyed to parts unknown. Either she has been heavily drugged or has been completely broken. I am tentatively going with the latter option because we know that she gave up information about Root's cochlear implant to Greer. And we still don't know if her mind has been broken by Samaritan himself. What if Correction is a way to make mindless and willing slaves/drones of humans?

    ReplyDelete
  31. This is a pleasant surprise. I rarely see you in a POI thread. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. OH MAN now this episode was AWESOME. Probably my favorite one since "Control-Alt-Delete". So tense but oh so damn good.

This episode really proves why Root is one of my favorite characters ever. And every time she teams up with Finch makes it even better. I don't think I ever been so satisfied with a character's death like when Root snapped Martine's neck. It's been a long time coming and I immediately cheered when it happened. It happened so quick but it really packed a punch. So long Martine!!

Control's interrogation with that Samaritan agent was just glorious. Camryn Manheim continues to kill it in this role and her storyline in this episode was intense. "Every life will be given a mission. Samaritan will build a new, better world" Is Samaritan trying to turn the human race into servants/slaves? Correction already sounds terrifying.

Elias playing the Brotherhood like that was awesome. He's just trying to avenge his former right hand man's life, Scarface by making sure Dominic kills his right hand man. And it worked beautifully. Now the rest of the Brotherhood will now trust Dominic less and less.

More hints of Shaw! Yay!! Though I have a sneaking suspicion that when Shaw comes back to the team in the future, she won't be herself. Possibly she has already been brainwashed by Samaritan? Oh the thought of that already kills me inside.

I believe this is the first time I really felt for The Machine. Just seeing the AI surrender herself so she wouldn't lose her human agents made me tear up. What a huge moment for her. And I just about broke down when she said that Finch and Root weren't interchangeable (AWWW!!). What an intense standoff between her and Samaritan!! I can't wait to see the aftermath of this. Bring on Tuesday's finale!

  33. I watch it religiously. But I am usually late in Wednesday while watching it. Then I will somehow get stuck in Arrow fandom. LOL. PoI is my perfect show on tv. Such complexity treated with respect. Love the show. I hate the broken scheduling in second half of this season though.

    ReplyDelete
  34. F*ck CBS and their scheduling. It has hurt other shows too.

    ReplyDelete
  35. When Harper came second time I got confused as to who is this girl? I had to go back and watch old episodes to make sense. This horrible scheduling really broke momentum several times this season. Other shows I watch on CBS are all procedurals so those doesn't get hurt much. But poor PoI its completely serialized now. I am so annoyed.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I guess they drugged her. Because I don't think that she can be broken that easily.

I'm still hoping that she is is faking all of that. Root led Shaw and Reese into a dangerous situation because she knew they can handle it. I think that Sameen would do the same.

I don't think that Sameen looked any different in the car scene tbh. There is just nothing she can do without getting herself killed.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I wouldn't coun't her being undercover out either.

    ReplyDelete
  38. As you saw above I have different thought about Shaw and her being broken. I think it is safe to assume that the Samaritan storyline is ending this season. At least the way we know it. So if it were like you said, that Sameen is basically Samaritan's bitch now it would be interesting to see what happens to her if Team Samaritan doesn't exist anymore, Jonah Nolan did promise a "killer storyline" for Shaw when Sarah Shahi comes back. So maybe Shaw is keeps continuing to fight Team Machine by herself if she has been manipulated to think that they are the bad ones.

    ReplyDelete
  39. PoI Mission Completed: My mind is blown! Guess the only thing keeping it intact is my man Fusco asking for a loofah to wash his back while being interrogated! Oh and the satisfaction of seeing Root out Martine was second to none. It's gonna be a hell-raising finale next week!

    ReplyDelete
  40. One thing we also should consider is that Shaw's square was still yellow and not red. I think that is a huge clue even if she did lead Root and Finch into that trap "on purpose".

    ReplyDelete
  41. It seems like the Correction will be similar to what Samaritan did in Maple, but obviously much bigger: kill the primary targets along with a bunch of "deviants", and rearrange those who are left. "This will be the end for some, and for others a rebirth."

It's probably no coincidence Shaw was revealed to be alive in that same episode (M.I.A.). Samaritan wanted her repurposed instead of killed.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yellow reticle only indicates that the person knows about the Machine. That being said, Shaw is not a threat. Yet.

I believe that she is being gradually broken down (mentally) by Samaritan. As for Shaw giving up information about Root's cochlear or making that call - remember this - everyone has a breaking point under torture. Everyone talks. And I am sure that a heavy dosage of truth serum and other drugs will also contribute to this.

    ReplyDelete
  43. See my reply to @AmbulanceRuse regarding the yellow square.

I don't think for a second that Shaw led Root and Finch into a trap on 'purpose'. For all we know, she broke under sustained torture and truth serums and other drugs must have left her very vulnerable and open to manipulation/suggestion.

    OR

Maybe the correct 'circumstances' were created for her to make a call - a phone left lying around on purpose only long enough for Shaw to think of sending a help message to Root but Greer/Martine may have have stopped her at just the 'right' time from saying anything more.

    OR

Samaritan has done a number on her and though she may not be a threat, she has become or is in the process of becoming a 'repurposed' human being. Does that entail her being a threat? Maybe, down the line. But as of now, no.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Samaritan is not ending so soon. I highly doubt it. If anything, I feel like the Machine is in mortal peril.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Two characters died. Four more to go.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well I don't think that that the machine and samaritan are working they way that they are now by the season finale. But it is more or less redundant to discuss this topic to death roght now because in less than one week we will knoe what happens to both of the machines.

    ReplyDelete
  47. So far we don't know what they have done to her. They did something for sure but I don't think it was that invasive. We don't know if they used all the methods you mentioned. We learned that Shaw was willing to give her life to save the others. She also knows what they are capable of. Taking down Samaritan was the most important thing since mid season 3. One could interprate that Sameen was somehow helping Team Machine to take down Samaritan by leading them to its headquarters. They have never been in the belly of the beast. And I think it would have been a very bold move from Team Samaritan to decoy Team Machine go fo to their Headquarters. None of the Samaritan folks are underestimating anyone of the Team Machine.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Such an amazing amazing hour of television, well done!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I wondered the same thing about the foreshadowing, but the writers have lead us astray before, so I wouldn't think a lot about it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Underwhelming.

    ReplyDelete
  51. My only issue was Dominic being duped so easily.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's a non-stop delight to relish Ms Acker on the screen! She is one of the rarest phenomena of contemporary cinema and tv, who not only truly touches souls of people, but provides them with a magic opportunity to taste the feeling of love.
