I voted ok. I mean I was interested in some of it. But the rest just dragged. It was really slow. That was a really long hour and nothing really happened. And this cast was alright I guess, but they must All seriously be newcomers b/c I didn't recognize not one face.
A little slow .....I think a show like this is better suited for abc family or something like that. I liked it I hope it picks up by the second episode. I don't really like that 3 out of 5 of them are already in deep shit. But I'll watch it next week and make my final judgement if i'll stick with it for the rest of the season out of 5 stars i give it ***
It was ok wish we got to know more about the characters hope it does well in the ratings consider it's on Friday I'll continue to watch but I'll probably dvr it
I thought it was pretty great and visually beautiful. There was a lot of ground to cover with so many characters being affected by The Man and now being Angels of the Apocalypse but I think they did a great job of introducing everyone and setting up their story. I had a feeling that Rose was going to wake up by the end but I wonder why The Man believes she's a threat to everything going on. And holy shit at The Man's eyes. So creepy. Anyway, I'm definitely sticking with the show regardless of the terrible ratings it might get tomorrow. Long live The Messengers!!
You don't recognize Vera? If you ever watched One Tree Hill, she was on that for a while. And Raul was also on Revolution. Don't know anyone else haha.
I totally agree. I think they did a good job of introducing the characters. I personally thought the hour flew by. I'm excited to see where they take it from here. As for it being on Friday nights a lot of good shows are on Fridays. At one point Supernatural was on Friday nights and it survived
Maybe it was because I was immediately hooked on the characters but I thought the hour flew by as well. And I'm trying to keep my hopes up that the ratings will be okay since most shows thrive on Fridays nowadays.
My hope is that somehow it will do well enough to be moved next season, since NBC will most definitely have either Grimm or another genre series in the same timeslot. It never ends well having several genre shows competing for the same audience on an already low-rated night.
Yeah if anything, the CW should probably move it to another night if it gets another season because Fridays are certainly genre heavy right now. Or maybe move it to summer if it earns good ratings throughout the season?
As long as it gets several more seasons I don't really care where it ends up, I suppose, but I do hope it survives the season to prove the critics wrong who didn't seem to like it or think it would be successful. But ALL the negative reviews only seem to imply they didn't like the lack of answers in the pilot, which I find incredibly stupid, as I happen to generally like it when shows keep an air of mystery about them. Plus supposedly most of the answers are given in ep 2 so I don't see what the big deal is.
I thought it was amazing. I loved the characters and I'm looking forward to learning more about each of them. The visual effects for the wings were gorgeous, Peter's reflection in the car window gave me chills. I can't wait for next week's episode!!
Do people really expect to get all the answers in the first episode? The Messengers is among the newcomer series I've been looking forward to the most, and I'm rooting for it, especially because of Shantel VanSanten :) I hope it succeeds despite being aired on fridays.
Seriously? The pilot is supposed to set up the main story and characters, not give answers right off the bat! I like shows more when they give bits of answers throughout the season and then hit you with an awesome revelation in the finale.
I agree. And I've seen lots of criticism coming from SPN fans simply because that show dealt with the apocalypse, and I'm a SPN fan but that show has never been great too great as executing story despite being good entertainment. Mostly because it has such a small budget and all the cool things happen via dialogue or off-screen, but I think as far as apocalypse tales go this show is gonna be a lot more satisfying than SPN was.
I agree. Also a few recaps I've just read say the show is too "disjointed" because of the various POVs. Ugh! I'd like to know if any of these people reviewed the Heroes pilot and if so, if they said the same things because that show is extremely disjointed for the whole freakin' thing. (I only bring that show up because I'm rewatching the show on Netflix.)
I would say definitely, yes. The show is amazing and each episode gets better and better. Looking forward to seeing what people think of episode 2 (plus the votes are overwhelmingly for awesome).
If the trailer makes it look like something you'd enjoy, watch. Never go off someone else's opinions especially in regards to entertainment because for you they could be totally wrong.
I know - I've been surprised by how many people complained about not getting answers in the first episode - if you find out everything in the pilot what's left for the rest of the season? Mystery, people! Haha :)
That was brilliant I loved it. Not sure why people are complaining about lack of answers, it's a pilot, it's going to set up questions before it answers them... I hope it did well, it was much better than I expected, I don't see myself dropping it unless they totally mess it up.
Do you mean the promo for next week? I thought it looked really good too, I'm looking forward to seeing them together. I thought the cast was really good.
Just noticed The Messengers is still trending :) I know it's not that hard for something trend, especially a CW show but still, nice to see. The anxious wait for ratings begins...
Yup, Vera and Raul are my favorites as well right now and I 100% agree with you on Peter. He was definitely the weakest link in the beginning but I'm warming up to him now. Erin and Joshua were pretty good too.
I hope it does well too. I'm interested in what happens and there aren't any other shows on like this right now. I like adding something new to my tv lineup
Friday is a 'kill slot' for most shows, because the viewing audience is usually a lot less. This is because a lot of people are busy on Friday nights and don't watch tv.
That was actually surpringly good. It didn't have the CW feel to it which is probably why it's on a Friday. But it's great because at least there won't be any overdone teen romance drama subplots going. Just pure greatness instead.
It's probably on Friday since it isn't like any of the other CW shows. It's more adult oriented then anything else. Plus there's nothing to pair the show with on weekdays. I personally prefer the show on Fridays since it would get its chance to shine and walk on its own two feet. Though I could see how Fridays might be a terrible slot. I just hope the show does well
You mean the preacher's dad? I thought tht part was predictable since you could tell with how the preacher's wife was acting. But I thought that that part was supposed to symbolize that even if someone says that their "holy" or "a believer" it's their actions that truly show who they are. I think you're reading or focusing too much on that part. I mean the preacher had to leave the church at some point, it's better that its now instead of the writers dragging it out for several episodes like CW shows often do or even several YEARS like soap operas do.(which this is clearly not)
I fall asleep the moment the Pilot finished, was just to tired.
I think it was a solid pilot. The show has some issues but still had everything I need for it to be entertaining and drag me into the whole story.
It was a bit slow, the cuts between the scenes ,especially in the begging were quite rough, but that was fixed throughout the episode and that cheezy I knocked up my sons girlfriend story but besides I was fine. The only thing I missed was a bit of a bigger hit of The Man's deviousness. Just some connection, line or something to show us he is a big player.
JD killed it for me. His on screen presence was terrific and he was just really captivating the screen. The looks he exchanged with Erin were so smooth and sexy.
Vera was great as well(missed Shantel on my small screen). Not sure if I'm really a fan of the kidnapped child story, but if it is earlier set up plan from the evil guys I could dig it. Peter was so sweet and genuine, wasn't expecting that suicide twist and I really hope he didn't kill that bully would've been to much.
Joshua delivered some neat moments as well. Think he is an intriguing character, but we'll have to wait and see for more. Erin is probably the weakest link here but still was fairly enjoyable. If anything she is hottish.
I really hope the ratings reflect well and the show comes of a good start, think it got a quite the potential and could be an extraordinary show.
Good. I wasn't going to bother with this one, none of the promos caught my interest. Happy, that i gave it a chance tho. I'm intrigued by Rose,i hope we get to see more of her in the future. I knew something was up with Charlotte and Joshua's father.
What misty said... But also to add i think it was put on a Friday because it could survive better there than the rest of the nights. Not saying it was a bad thing but it's premiering so late that Friday would be a great option if they want it to survive for next season. I for one would like to see this show to succeed cause of it being so different. I think the show itself reminds me of supernatural a little. Angel and Demon thing going on in the first Episode.
It was alright (Alan's already shaping up to be my favourite character), up until that ending. They did a pretty good job setting up the characters, I already feel like we have a good idea of who most of them are, but that ending was so hamfisted it made my eyes roll. The glowing eyes? Really, guys?
Yea I know I watch a lot of things, So I recognized everyone. Vera from OTH, The Man from the Bible as Jesus(ironic), Raul from Revolution,Peter from Super 8, and Erin I just saw the other day on Project Almanac movie her baby daddy from Prison Break.
I really, really enjoyed it. It's exactly right up in my alley. Two things I hope for: 1) That we get to see all 13 before it is pulled 2) That it has an actual ending and not a cliffhanger
So, today I woke up feeling like, well let's check out The Messengers. Before that I had to see Cristela, but then I saw The Messengers.
I was positively surprised by the pilot, as I was expecting something really bad and boring, especially given that most of the trailers and sneak peeks that have been shown before seemed to be just random scenes not telling anything. Had I not read any articles online which say what is this show exactly about, I would have no idea. The beginning of the episode felt a little all over the place, but I understand it since they wanted to show what everyone was doing, but I'm wondering what percentage of those viewers who felt like let's give it a try then switch to something else felt like it's worth to stay watching it. Other than that, it was a good episode, I don't regret checking it out, and will see the next episode, but I'm expecting if it does premiere well, it will drop for episode 2 definitely.
However, as I'd really like CW to have some summer programming I'd really like for it to succeed. (As long as it doesn't put iZombie in danger, which seems to be unofficially renewed unless they would repeat a season of a cancelled series, or change their schedule later.)
Pleasantly surprised. Everything was quick moving and I'm sure all the back stories will serve to make interesting character dynamics in the future. But I can't say the pilot really made me care about any of the characters. Vera&Erin have potentially the most compelling conflicts involving their children but the acting was weak.. making their scenes less than they should have been. Joshua was the stand out for me both as a character & the actor until they threw in the baby/father/brother subplot so THAT was disappointing. Basically I think the premise has a lot of potential but 'the man' was slightly underdeveloped... understandably to keep up the mystery. But he's obviously the most integral part aside from Rose so they shouldn't hold off on those answers for too long. Unique premise thats for sure. ... Also could have done without the wings but I'm sure those are sticking around
I liked it, though everything Peter related made me roll my eyes. At times I thought it was a bit shaky, like the show is trying to find its voice, but as a whole it is very interesting and has plenty of potential. I hope it manages to succeed and that we'll see another season, maybe on summer next year
I truly think this show has so much potential - even the 100 pilot wasn't that brilliant, and look where it is now. I really enjoyed the episode and I think more people should keep watching just to give it another try :)
I reserve the right to watch a few eps BEFORE I judge ........ how can you judge on just one ? It's a fledgling show, give it a moment to get its footing. After all, they do a have to introduce us to all the cast and the premise.
It was 'ok'. I think they should've left the character's background to be integrated in later bits. And perhaps put more emphasis into bringing them together and moving the story more forward. Right now I still don't have a good feel for what the direction is and you should never feel that way after a pilot. If you do, it didn't deliver it's premise well. All the stuff with the little girl/conflict with ex, the drug dealer etc could've been kept out of the picture entirely for this episode.
It was actually good. I could have done without the preacher nonsense but it's actually very intriguing. Plus, The Messengers was actually offering viewers a well written show and not using sex to get ratings. I think it has potential if it gets moved out of the Friday death slot.
decent start for me as I wasn't expecting much after the previous lukewarm preview and the fact it debuted in the Friday death zone, that said I felt that even though it wasn't a barn burner of a pilot, there was enough to pique my curiosity to give it a couple more eps to see if it can build off of that.... so far, I'll sample a few more eps....
I can't tell yet if this show is gonna be good or not. It is similar to SPN but covers a different angle. I'm not sure if it'll work but I hope for the best. I just hope they will explain a little more soon because this was just a little mash thrown together. The show has potential as long as it doesn't come to close to SPN..
This is a show that I really needed the back of the book blurb for. The trailers were pretty bad and I hadn't run across anything with the premise. Two elements left me feeling like I had nothing to hang my hat on. One was the angels killing and the second was that the angels hadn't usurped personalities of the people they invaded/merged with/changed. I felt like I'd been handed a thousand puzzle pieces and couldn't find the edges so I could start laying the pieces out.
I liked most of the characters. I think, if anyone asked me, I would have gone a different way in casting Lucifer.
That said, I am interested. I'll be watching the second episode. I'll also see if I can find a series premise somewhere online so I can at least find the edge pieces. (Sorry, started the metaphor and had to go with it.)
Personally, I liked it a lot and I didn't find it slow. It was the pilot, what should they do? throw everything at us? They introduced 5-6 main-characters and put the basis for the rest of the plot...and they did it pretty well IMO.
I liked it, although It's hard to predict whether or not I'll continue to like it, Sadly, based on the timeslot, I'm not sure it will be around for long. However, I found it 10X more interestng than iZombi, which profited tremendously from airing after The Flash.. The CW really needs to stop setting up certain shows to fail even before they've started.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
It's most definitely not for me. I can't even explain what didn't work. I did love some of the effects though.
ReplyDeleteAwful
ReplyDeleteI get the sense that people are gonna see why the CW put it on Friday
ReplyDeleteIt was good for the most part but I now understand why cw put it on FRIDAY
ReplyDeleteNow I know why they put it on Friday.....it was so disappointing I was expecting more but I am going watch next week to see if I drop it or not
ReplyDeleteI voted ok. I mean I was interested in some of it. But the rest just dragged. It was really slow. That was a really long hour and nothing really happened. And this cast was alright I guess, but they must All seriously be newcomers b/c I didn't recognize not one face.

ReplyDeleteMaybe it was because I was immediately hooked on the characters but I thought the hour flew by as well. And I'm trying to keep my hopes up that the ratings will be okay since most shows thrive on Fridays nowadays.
ReplyDeleteThe show was trending on twitter within 15 minutes and there was a lot of amazing tweets floating around - fingers crossed for great ratings!
ReplyDeleteMy hope is that somehow it will do well enough to be moved next season, since NBC will most definitely have either Grimm or another genre series in the same timeslot. It never ends well having several genre shows competing for the same audience on an already low-rated night.

ReplyDeleteWhy CW put it on Friday? Explain to me please
ReplyDeleteWhy CW put it on Friday? Explain to me please.
ReplyDeleteHaven't watched it? Is it worth switching the 2nd hour of the amazing race over to this??
ReplyDeleteDo people really expect to get all the answers in the first episode?
ReplyDeleteThe Messengers is among the newcomer series I've been looking forward to the most, and I'm rooting for it, especially because of Shantel VanSanten :)
I hope it succeeds despite being aired on fridays.
Basically they are implying it's not good enough for a weekday slot.
ReplyDeleteDamn so many conflicting opinions on this. Don't know whether I should watch. :(
ReplyDeleteI don't get why some people think this: I don't like it = it isn't worthy.
ReplyDeleteThere are shows I don't like or I wouldn't watch, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve appreciation or success.
Seriously? The pilot is supposed to set up the main story and characters, not give answers right off the bat! I like shows more when they give bits of answers throughout the season and then hit you with an awesome revelation in the finale.

It was AWESOME! The promo was awesome too!
ReplyDeleteWatch it and form your OWN opinion, don't just go by others as thiers may be vastly different than yours.
ReplyDeleteDo you mean the promo for next week? I thought it looked really good too, I'm looking forward to seeing them together. I thought the cast was really good.
ReplyDeleteJust noticed The Messengers is still trending :) I know it's not that hard for something trend, especially a CW show but still, nice to see. The anxious wait for ratings begins...
ReplyDeleteYes, the promo for next week. The cast is amazing. Joshua and Vera are my favorites!
ReplyDeleteVera and Raul are my favourites so far. I didn't like Peter at first but he quickly grew on me, I like what they showed of him in the promo too.
ReplyDeleteI stopped halfway through, unfortunately. Definitely not top on my list of TV shows to continue, but I wish the best for fans of the show (:
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch OTH or Revolution. I stopped Revolution a few episodes in.
ReplyDeleteWell the votes are definitely more positive than the comments.
ReplyDeleteI'm rooting for this show. I'm not attached to it yet, but I see potential and I'm curious to see more.
Thanks for the last part of your comment :)
ReplyDeleteYup, Vera and Raul are my favorites as well right now and I 100% agree with you on Peter. He was definitely the weakest link in the beginning but I'm warming up to him now. Erin and Joshua were pretty good too.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Pilot!
ReplyDeleteI hope it does well too. I'm interested in what happens and there aren't any other shows on like this right now. I like adding something new to my tv lineup
ReplyDeleteWatch it, and keep watching!
ReplyDeleteGreat!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell I liked the trailer and promo so decided to watch lol. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah decided to watch it. :)
ReplyDeleteYa real nice hyperbole there. After 1 episode you can tell this will be better than one of the greatest genre seasons of all-time? Is that a joke?
ReplyDeleteFriday is a 'kill slot' for most shows, because the viewing audience is usually a lot less. This is because a lot of people are busy on Friday nights and don't watch tv.

ReplyDeleteReally? You call your dad had sex with me so it may or may not be your kid pure greatness? That is soap opera level bad, worse than teen romance.
ReplyDeleteYou mean the preacher's dad? I thought tht part was predictable since you could tell with how the preacher's wife was acting. ReplyDeleteCan't even think about adjustments now.
ReplyDeleteIll watch this before I sleep. just came to say hello
ReplyDeleteI think it would have been better if it were a 2 hour premiere. The only character that I cared about was Erin.
ReplyDeleteWatch it. A lot of people seem to love it. I hope you do too. It wasn't for me but it could be good for you.

It's basically a summer show with the finale airing July 31st, so don't think it will be pulled even if it gets really poor ratings.
ReplyDeletethe second half was so much better than the first half, you should've stayed till the end
ReplyDeleteI truly think this show has so much potential - even the 100 pilot wasn't that brilliant, and look where it is now. I really enjoyed the episode and I think more people should keep watching just to give it another try :)

All the stuff with the little girl/conflict with ex, the drug dealer etc could've been kept out of the picture entirely for this episode.
ReplyDeleteI really hope so. Pulling it midway through would be even worse.
ReplyDeleteIt was actually good. I could have done without the preacher nonsense but it's actually very intriguing. Plus, The Messengers was actually offering viewers a well written show and not using sex to get ratings. I think it has potential if it gets moved out of the Friday death slot.
ReplyDeletei'll wait until i see how i does with the ratings
ReplyDeletedecent start for me as I wasn't expecting much after the previous lukewarm preview and the fact it debuted in the Friday death zone, that said I felt that even though it wasn't a barn burner of a pilot, there was enough to pique my curiosity to give it a couple more eps to see if it can build off of that.... so far, I'll sample a few more eps....
ReplyDeleteI can't tell yet if this show is gonna be good or not. It is similar to SPN but covers a different angle. I'm not sure if it'll work but I hope for the best. I just hope they will explain a little more soon because this was just a little mash thrown together. The show has potential as long as it doesn't come to close to SPN..
ReplyDeleteUgh.
ReplyDeleteThis is a show that I really needed the back of the book blurb for.
ReplyDeleteI liked most of the characters. I think, if anyone asked me, I would have gone a different way in casting Lucifer.
That said, I am interested. I'll be watching the second episode. I'll also see if I can find a series premise somewhere online so I can at least find the edge pieces. (Sorry, started the metaphor and had to go with it.)
It was okay... slow, clunky and a bit cluttered. I think there's some potential though. I'll give it a few more episodes.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I liked it a lot and I didn't find it slow. It was the pilot, what should they do? throw everything at us? They introduced 5-6 main-characters and put the basis for the rest of the plot...and they did it pretty well IMO.
ReplyDeleteyeah i'm actually surprised at how well the main characters were introduced
ReplyDeleteI liked it, although It's hard to predict whether or not I'll continue to like it, Sadly, based on the timeslot, I'm not sure it will be around for long. However, I found it 10X more interestng than iZombi, which profited tremendously from airing after The Flash.. The CW really needs to stop setting up certain shows to fail even before they've started.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was awesome! Looking forward to seeing more of this one!
