So happy this show is back, I really enjoyed this episode. Every season I love to see how the Opening Titles change :)
Young Cersei, actually not bad, the actress has small mannerisms like the way she held herself and certain words she said where really similar to Lena Headye’s Cersei.
Tyron went through so much shit (pun literally intended) in that box lol, I felt so bad for him.
Melisandre asking Jon those questions at the Wall were really personal yet funny to me, she fascinates me so much, “The Lord’s fire is lit within me Jon Snow.”
Brienne is just the best, “I don’t care, I’m not your mother.” She was so close to Sansa though, so close.
Sansa reminded so much of Catelyn, the way she dressed and walked made me miss Michelle Fairley.
Cersei watching Tommen and Margery is hilarious, just the way she looks at her is priceless. Varys always has something really thought provoking to say, loved the scenes between him and Tyrion.
I loved the scene where Daenerys goes into the catacombs to see Rhaegal & Viserion, the dark atmosphere was only lit by fire the dragons exhaling fire, it showed the grandeur and menace of their size. Brilliantly directed scene.
The ending was good, Melisandre as usual has incredible lines (at least to me, even if they aren't used for a universal 'good'), “Our choices are the same, we choose good or evil, we choose the True God or the False”.
“Behold the fate of those who choose the Darkness.” I cannot wait for next week!
Great premiere. Probably my favorite premiere they've done. Things seem more focused now, which is good because the disparate storylines were my main concern with the show. I loved the Tyrion-Varys scenes in particular, and the final scene was very effective.

It was a really good premiere. Felt good, sincere, not to forced with some nice developments and hints of where the stories can possibly go. I'm not a huge fan, but I certainly enjoy watching.
Great premiere. My favorite parts were probably all the ones between Tyrion and Varys. The final moment was a great one for Jon and I am excited about the Nights Watch this season.
Thought this was an awesome premiere.. One of the strongest start's to a season. You can really tell the show has matured and that D&D know what they what to do and how to do it now.
I really like the slow burn approach they seem to be taking this year. Maybe it is necessity since many characters are in transition, moving to new places or moving to new positions. They needed to establish everyone on their new paths after the chaos of last season and I think they did it nicely!
- I enjoyed the Cersei flashback and wonder (hope) they will do more in the upcoming seasons. - Very happy to see the return of Lancel and Kevan Lannister - Even if Lancel did go Sparrow! - Looking forward to the next installment of the Tyrion and Varys road show! XD - Not sold on Littlfeinger's scheme just yet, but I like Sansa being more aware... - The Wall could be one of the highlights of the season. Not something I've felt in the past.... - Daario's childhood tales made me miss Strong Belwas.. More Locusts and honey! - Respect to Jon for putting in arrow into the burning Mance Rayder! HE deserved a swift death.
R.I.P. JJ Murphy! (He played Ser Denys Mallister, the white haired Night's Watch elder who was nominated during Lord Commander choosing, .)
It was really great that we got some insight on Cersei's past! Good to know she still had the same rude, demanding personality even as a little child XD Guess things don't ever change for some people. And I have a sense that the younger, more beautiful queen who casts down Cersei that the witch was talking about is totally Margaery ;) I was laughing so much at all the death glares Cersei was giving to her throughout the episode.
Daenerys vs. the Sons of the Harpy! Another group who is absolutely against Dany and her allies. Should be interesting to see this get more tense in the coming weeks. Also, Viserion and Rhaegal are becoming more and more dangerous by the second...
All the Tyrion and Varys scenes were of course my favorite part of the episode. Loved the moment where Tyrion vomits all the alcohol just to drink up the bottle all over again. Classic XD "What it is you want exactly?" "Peace. Prosperity. A land where the powerful do not prey on the powerless" Freaking can't wait for the Tyrion/Daenerys meetup in the future. "Can I drink myself to death on the road to Meereen?" That's the spirit, Tyrion! XD
It was great to see that Mance wasn't going to break his own rule and kneel down to Stannis or anyone. Too bad that not doing so caused him a very sad death in the end in front of everyone. At least Jon was compassionate during the death and offered Mance a quick shot to the chest to end his suffering quicker.
Overall, I really loved everyone's storylines tonight (including the Night's Watch/Wildlings which was a complete surprise for me!). Can't wait for next week!
Oh boy those dragons have gotten big and are in a total teenage 'LEAVE ME ALONE MOM' stage. I really do think the fan theory that Bran will eventually warg into one makes a whole lot of sense, not sure how else they can be controleld otherwise.
Anyway the premiere was pretty good, I find the opening episodes of the season are never the show at its best but still its a lot of fun.
haha, given Varys actions in the books, the whole thing (his plan and everything he said) makes no sense. But at least like you said there are at least 2 people out there who may be Rhaegar's sons. One of them is bound to be legit, isn't he, which means he's the true heir of House Targaryen and essentially the hero of the story aka the prince that was promised. And I am pretty sure Aegon is a fake xD.
-Love the Cersei flashback! I like how she had some of Cersei's tenacity and mannerisms, but yet there was something innocent or more genuine and less guarded, -I suppose that might make us feel for Myrcella a bit more. (I hope we get more flashbacks, and am I wrong or shouldn't there have been a little more to that prophecy?) - Hooray for Lancel! I always enjoy seeing him and I find it amusing that he became a Sparrow! -Margeary seems like she might be scheming a bit more...and Loras, you can't keep 'your intended' waiting!!! - The Unsullied in Brothels, being killed?! Well, when magical spells wear off, then being more mortal seems likely... -Dany, there is no perfect road and all roads lead...somewhere. I guess you have learn somehow. -Cersei's point about the perception of Tywin's death, a good one, but she shouldn't be preaching to Jaime about unintended consequences from poor decision making. -Jon, again you prove why you're my favorite character. I will miss Mance... -Vary's perception/plan doesn't always seem to make sense to me, but I'm not sure if Tyrion or Vary's can "help" Dany or that she doesn't have some ways to go before becoming a good Queen... -And speaking of other people's goals that I can't quite see, Littlefinger's idea is also not what I expected!
Ya, that's the crazy thing about Melisandre, she does have great lines, and even if I don't always like her or find myself ever rooting for her, I can't deny the possibility that there is some truth to her magical ways and words of wisdom. I don't think we'll ever get a definitive answer on what Gods and/or what Magic is real, good, or bad, but I do hope the God of Death has something to say to The God of Light at some point (She believes Arya will cross her path again)
I also love that Jon basically looses one crazy sex-orientated red headed woman and gains another :p
Tyrion needs to stop with the wallowing. But at least he's interacting with Varys, and that's always fun.
Poor Brienne... she's so defeated. But it is a nice combo pairing her up with Pod.
Danny:"I'm not a politician. I'm a Queen." And that attitude right there honey is why you are a horrible "queen"! Liked that little humble lesson she got from the dragons.
Great character moment from Jon in the end there. And this from someone who generally finds him quite bland.
"Sansa reminded so much of Catelyn, the way she dressed and walked made me miss Michelle Fairley"
It's quite funny... in the books Sansa is supposed to look very much like Cat. But I've never thought Sophie and Michelle looked particularly the same. But I do think this season there is an active effort to make that connection, and it's working because I agree. She does looks like Cat/Michelle!
So.... little Cersei is a c-word just like her older self huh? :-p Her arc this season is going to be fascinating.
They've done a great job planting that doubt that Dany would really be a good ruler. She's shown the same ruthlessness that her father was known for and she's clearly out of touch with the very people who put her where she is. I've picked up on her megalomania over the last couple seasons and it's starting to bother me. There's a paradox inherent in being a ruler. Perhaps GRRM is using the Targaryens to make a point against authoritarianism?
Already I can see the deviations from the books are going to be more numerous this season than they have in any other season. I've accepted it, but I'm apprehensive about how the story will play out and whether I'll care as much anymore.
What's exciting is, even though I've read them all, I still don't quite know how it's going to play out.
The witch did say that Cersei could ask three questions, and I'm pretty sure that the scene ended before she asked the third. I hope we get the rest of that flashback at some point, as well as flashbacks for other characters.
I have a theory that they might take a plot that related to Cat and put it on Sansa eventually, especially now that I read that somethings the TV series passed up on, may still end up in the series, just at a different time...
True. The show has been coyer about history and prophecy, by not letting us get a lot of it. But the three-headed dragon theory is SO good and DWD has such great themes about "IMPostors" vrs "true identities" that I hope those things can still land on the show eventually. I'm hopeful because 1. I recently read that just because we didn't see something on the show that happened in the books, doesn't mean that we still can't (just be in different order), and 2. they finally gave us a flashback, which could be an indicator that we might start getting more Fb's and/or visions of prophecy. Season 5 could be a beginning of the end turning point and might be where they really begin to give us more things featured in the books....
"There's a paradox inherent in being a ruler. Perhaps GRRM is using the Targaryens to make a point against authoritarianism?"
Nice observation! I kind of wonder though given something like The Ice Dragon, the Unsullied becoming "free men", and ideas about cycles and reincarnation, if Dany can't literally help herself, until she is freed from the dragon(s) at some point--that she is currently inextricable from their behavior/personality traits?????
I really hope there are more flashbacks. As much as I love the show, it bothers me that they completely drop some things/characters that were introduced earlier, only to pick them back up right when they're going to be important, at which point many people have probably forgotten that they were ever on the show before (for example: Kevan Lannister); or other things that they introduce later in the story than they perhaps should have considering their importance (for example: The Reeds, Oberyn Martell/the importance of Dorne). It makes sense that the writers can't have all of the characters around all the time on the show like they are in the books, but they already know how the books go and how important a lot of these things are, and I don't understand why they don't put more effort into referencing things or having a character who will be important later appear once in a while instead of forgetting about them until they're important again.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Still can't get into Daenerys story at all, but I am interested in Varys and Tyrions, which seems strange to me.

Varys and Tyrion have no idea what a terrible Queen Dany would be. But at least thewre#s hope that she has a nephew.
