This was really just a set up for Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman but I still really enjoyed the finale a lot.
"I once told a woman I was Kevin Costner, and it worked because I believed it"
So great that we got a chance to see that memorable reference from Breaking Bad play out haha. That sequence with Jimmy and Marco scamming everyone in Chicago was hilarious. And Marco dying in front of Jimmy is such a big character moment for him and a really sad moment from the show. Overall, the finale ended on a somewhat quiet note with Jimmy not going into that Davis & Mayne meeting after all and just riding off into the sunset but I guess what Vince and Co. were trying to tell us is that whatever mistakes Jimmy does from now on, it's on him. And we know there's going to be a lot of it but he's on his own. He's becoming more and more ruthless. I was kinda surprised that we didn't see Jimmy go full on Saul Goodman in the finale but I guess they don't want to rush things. Good things come to those who wait and I can't freaking wait for that moment. This hiatus is going to be hell.
P.S We finally got the meaning of "Chicago Sunroof"! Don't piss off Jimmy or he'll s*** through your sunroof XD
It was okay... A bit anticlimactic. But as always they hit all the right notes from a character perspective
A knew Marco wasn't gonna make it through the episode when he started coughing the first time at the bar. I was seeing Howard in a whole new light! I get Jimmy giving up. The only reason he's tried to stay on the straight and narrow was to please Chuck and make Chuck proud. And since now he knows Chuck couldn't care less he doesn't have to factor that in. I'm expecting next year, we'll see more Saul, less Jimmy...
It's been weird show or sure. It's good, high quality TV, but it's just not brilliant, even though it has on paper all the elements of a brilliant show. I hope they figure and iron out all kinks that are just prevent it from reaching awesomeness next season.
Just a wee correction is in order. While we all love what Vince Gilligan had done with Breaking Bad, this show was only co-created by him. That in itself is a big thing, but Peter Gould (who created the character of Saul for Breaking Bad) is the showrunner now, Gilligan being only in an advisory role on this show. So we ought to give credit where credit is due.
Great end to the season. So, Jimmy had his Walter White moment in the final minutes of S1.
*Spoilers for Breaking Bad follow*
In Breaking Bad, Walter could have swallowed his ego, worked at Elliot & Gretchen's company and paid for his cancer treatment but he chose not to do the right thing and ended up starting down the path of becoming Heisenberg. So, it's all on him and his choices.
Same here is the case of Jimmy. He could have taken that job at David & Main, not just as an associate but as a partner, turned his life around and start to do the right things. But alas, he gives up and commits to being Slipping Jimmy and that is the path that will ultimately lead him to become Saul Goodman. So, everything he does from now on, is on him and his choices. No way can he (and us the viewers) blame the world/people/universe. No way can he ( and us) justify the path that he has now willfully chosen for himself.
It also made me think - how many times in life do we give up on things at the last moment only to have regrets later on in life. How many times we commit ourselves to the 'easy way' and not the right way and end up paying for it? Don't know about everyone but this finale made me think along these lines.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Loved it. Very funny.
ReplyDeleteSlippin Jimmy! It's going to suck to have to wait a whole year till another episode.

Great finale. Another important step in Jimmy's road to becoming Saul Goodman. Look forward to Season 2.
ReplyDeleteYes, there was a lot of emphasis on the coughing so first I also thought he would die. But it still came as a shock to me..
ReplyDeleteBut I really thought the episode was great! Can't wait for next season!!

ReplyDeleteVery good episode apart from the boring bingo monologue. That seemed to drag on forever.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that it will be a whole year.
