I've never really been a massive fan of the show - it has so many issues that distract me from enjoying it. I've spent so long slamming it and when it was announced that it wouldn't be renewed I wasn't surprised.
Now it has returned and delivered one of it's best episodes ever. If only it could have been like this to begin with, it may not have been cancelled!
(Must say I totally don't believe Medusa/Hercules relationship, though. I suppose thats what you get when they were together for less than one episode before Medusa was cursed)
Oh its back!, but I think I might just hold off on it right before the last episode airs, and watch it all at once. Are we getting a cliff hanger S2 Series finale? IF so and even if not, I rather enjoy it all at once.
I think the biggest problem it had was that it didn't really feel like a mid-season come back episode, but as we don't know when the decision was made to cut the season in half it's hard to really criticise it for that. However, the twist was given away too early by having the Oracle tell Melas the outcome of the gods wishes and having a random no-one see Jason with a dagger in his hand at the 'scene of the crime', even though the Oracle had gone by then.
It's also a bit of a stretch that most people believe that Jason carried out the killing over Pasiphae/Medusa, or that the gods would allow that to be believed as the truth without making it known they were displeased. Then there's Hercules protecting Medusa over Jason, which damages his character for me somewhat. Finally, I'm still not entirely sure why Pasiphae wants to be Queen anyway; much like Morgana wanted to be ruler in Merlin it just feels like a plot with no real premise behind it other than it allowing her to attack the city again, and again, and again...
The lighting was also terrible in it, which has been a problem through the whole of this season for me. The night-time filter they use on daytime filmed scenes is far too dark.
But, overall it's still a huge improvement to what the show was before. Like I said in my preview, Juliet and Sarah especially were marvellous and I'm glad that we got to see more of the Oracle before she was killed off. It's great to have Medusa back at last, I enjoy Jemima Rooper, and having her as the killer was a great twist - as was the Melas being blackmailed one, albeit being revealed a bit too soon for my liking.
I'm still not struck on either of the leads, but they too are doing better this season, and I love the addition of Emmett Scanlan at court for the next few episodes. I'm looking forward to what the rest of the series will bring.
Okay, fair enough. Perhaps I should have had higher expectations of it, or tried to view it a bit more critically! Anyway, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the remaining episodes.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Pretty good episode to come back on, could have been a bit stronger, but not too shabby :)
ReplyDeleteWell...sort of eating my words a bit now.

ReplyDeleteThat's interesting: where do you think they could have made improvements, Sandi?
