I saw this pilot nearly a year ago, it's so good to have this series finally beginning its run. Really interested to hear what everyone else thought about it. Was by far the best midseason pilot of the season - just behind How To Get Away With Murder for the season overall.
American Odyssey was COMPLETELY INCOMPATIBLE with A.D.
Why did Greenblatt think an Occupy Wall Street / Anti-Military / Anti-Government / Anti-Corporation drama would pair well with the conservative and likely older skewing A.D.?!
Another awful scheduling decision that will likely kill this series.
Odyssey isn't anti soldier. It might be anti government. And who do you think is most suspicious of the US government even though they are very pro soldier? Those same conservative, older viewers watching A.D.
pretty good start to this show. Interesting premise and set the stage just enough to really reel you in, although while I liked that the pacing of the events had a good flow and was fairly brisk, I wondered if it felt a bit too fast - but I suspect that hte pace will steady out as the show continues. Some interesting scenarios posed that for now have me coming back to tune in.
It may have felt a bit fast because they had to lose around 10 minutes from the original pilot that I watched which was about 52 minutes long. The pacing in that version was a touch fast but it was perfect for the type of series it is, so I'm not surprised it feels maybe a bit faster again in the broadcast version
I thought it was a very good show. If NBC has to renew one more show, American Odyssey should be it from a creative standpoint. It has a lot more potential moving forward than both The Mysteries Of Laura and The Night Shift.
As for compatibility with A.D., I agree they aren't compatible. However, if viewers watched the first few minutes, I think that there's a shot that they would stick around for more. I don't think that there will be a huge drop off at the half.
I've seen next week's episode and it's a really solid follow-up. Lots of interesting stuff happens. What this show does have, and you'll see it next week, is good complexity and interweaving - that alone makes it far better than anything else NBC has on its plate this season.
I loved it! One of the most powerful pilot of the season! I hope it's the kind of show in which more people tune in each week...... (that'd be awesome considering the premiere's ratings) Will watch ep 2 tomorrow.
I hope you will be right. Anna Friel is one of my favourite actresses, so I'm going to give it another chance, but the first episode was not something above the bar. It was good, but it hasn't managed to make me want more.
I'm not sure NBC is the right venue for this. An interesting beginning to this story. I thought it lagged a bit naratively at some points. Overall I say it was OK.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

I thought it was OK, but I don't see this working for NBC. It would have been much better on HBO or FX.

I loved it, since I don't trust this government to plan a one car procession. I am surprised that a MSM network would even put this on.
