CW
While “Supergirl” would seem to be a fit with CW’s “The Flash” and “Arrow,” the show is seen as being too expensive for the younger-skewing network, and would be more profitable for CBS Corp’s overall portfolio, if it lands at CBS where it currently has a good chance to go to series.
Meanwhile, sources say the CW will preview a first-look trailer at the DC superhero spinoff at their May 14 upfront presentation.
ABC
ABC is also looking to continue its superhero saga with talks of keeping “American Crime” creator John Ridley on the Alphabet’s air by handing him the keys to a new top-secret Marvel project.
As Shonda Rhimes already owns Thursday night on the network with her “TGIT” programming, no surprise here — Shondaland’s next drama “The Catch” with leading lady Mireille Enos, is seen as a lock.
“Dr. Ken,” starring “Community” alum Ken Jeong, was well received at the Alphabet, along with the Chevy Chase-Beverly D’Angelo sitcom and the untitled NBA buddy comedy, set to star Skylar Astin. Though not a favorite, Judah Miller’s comedy is still standing, sources said.

I want Kingmakers on ABC! That is all I can say!!!!! If they do not pick it up, I will be sad. I love the "Revenge" brand. Unfortunately, I Kind of hope, which is very sad, that it is Not referred to as a revenge spin-off due to revenge's reputation
ReplyDeleteInterested in the NBC thrillers, but I doubt they will get renewed. Cable is where it's at.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly I look really forward to Blindspot and Code Black, not a huge NBC and CBS follower.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe upfronts are just two weeks away. MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interested in Supergirl, Flash/Arrow-spinoff, Marvel-shows and Minority Report
ReplyDeleteI really want Kingmakers to be picked up. It sounds really interesting!
ReplyDeleteI suspected they'd end up changing Endgame's title to something else, but I'm not sure The Player has enough oomph to it. Still, looking forward to it and Blindspot like crazy, and I'm crossing my fingers that they're successful. I'm really going to miss Strike Back when it's gone :(
ReplyDeleteI don't think its chances look very good though, no one is mentioning it in any article, sadly.
ReplyDeleteThis does a good job mirroring what Deadline said yesterday.
ReplyDeletePart of me thinks that Wesley Snipes will have the same problem as Katherine Heigl in that he's not the most likeable actor out there. It's probably a smarter bet to start out with Blindspot.
And if Chicago Med is a go for midseason, Heart Matters likely makes the fall schedule.
Still nothing about Lucifer (FOX). :( I hope they will pick it up, not just the pilot but the whole series.
ReplyDeleteStudio City is a no brainer with Empire's success, but the lack of Lucifer's mention is surprising. I'd choose it over Rosewood, which is getting a lot of attention lately.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the Judah Miller pilot is still alive, I like Megan Hilly.
ReplyDeleteThat is really sad. However, I still have hope! Revenge cancelled and kingmakers not being Picked up would make me really really unhappy
ReplyDeleteSnipes is playing the second lead though and I would guess the audience is supposed to root for the Winchester character, not sure if the audience has to like Snipes to enjoy the show.
ReplyDeleteCW: While I understand the argument that Supergirl is out of the CW's budget, it's also kind of a misfit for CBS.... even if it does get picked up it'll be hard to match anything in their lineup... Scorpion might be the best companion it can find on the network currently. And even though it's not on the CW I do hope the show does belong in the DC/CW universe. Having cross-network-crossovers might be good for business...

CBS: Haven't already tried to spinoff Criminal Minds twice before? Granted Gary Sinise is always a draw, but It's not a franchiseable title. It's too grim a premise, just enough for one show. Following the same misery into another show? Haven't they realised yet it's not really viable?
If they hit the right formula Rush Hour might be fun, and Limitless could be interesting. But I'm not holding out for either as of now.
ABC: If John Ridley is doing Marvel, and since ABC is happy with American Crime my guess the rumor that Kamala is who they're looking at might indeed be the case... I'm just hoping it's being eyed as a second "bridge" series to run WITH Agent Carter, in the case that the AoS spinoff does also get picked up. (two main Marvel shows, two bridge shows to replace each during the hiatus).
With respect to Shonda's new show, I thin if they're still doing a limited episode season for HTGAWM again then this new show will be around to cover the scheduling void too.
Not too sure about the comedies they have on the line right now...
FOX: John, Rob and Eric? I'm game... I don't think all 3 will make it, but I'm banking on at least 2... I'm not sold on the premise of the Minority Report sequel, but I'm hoping the execution convinces me more. Rosewood I'm quite intrigued by... meh on the comedy front.
NBC: Oh! Endgame got retitled... kay... That and Blindspot have been the two things that pretty much had peaked my interested during development. Glad to hear they're both tracking well. Also glad to see Strange Calls referenced here (it's also been the one comedy so far that has me intrigued).
GENERAL THOUGHTS: I'm seeing a medical drama trend this season. The genre prepping for a comeback I guess. Though nothing on the roster currently seems too enticing, despite some excellent casting all around in those shows.
Nothing about NBC's 'Telenovela' with Eva Longoria? I'm really excited about it.
ReplyDeleteI want kingmakers too hopefully it gets picked up :)
ReplyDeleteIt was already ordered to series.
