Outlander - The Reckoning - Advance Preview
4 Apr 2015
Outlander Reviews TPOutlander returns from a long hiatus this Saturday with “The Reckoning”. In this episode, Jamie and the Mackenzies rescue Claire from Black Jack Randall. Claire learns that there are consequences for her actions. And the Highlanders return to Castle Leoch.
Previously on Outlander, Claire attempts to escape when she is left alone. She is captured by the British before she is able to reach Craig na Dun and Frank. Claire faces Black Jack’s wrath as Jaime appears in the window to rescue her.
The episode starts a little before where the last one left off with Jamie learning that Claire has been captured. The first noticeable difference is that the voiceovers are all done in Jamie’s voice which is a departure from the book and the first half of this season when Claire did all of the narrating. Jamie is adjusting to being a husband and the responsibility that comes with it. Claire becomes angry with Jamie due to the way he deals with things after he rescues her.
When the men return to Castle Leoch, they are greeted with a less than warm welcome from Colum. Colum isn’t the only person who is unhappy to learn that Jamie has married Claire. Jaime comes up with an idea to help restore peace in Clan Mackenzie, but he still isn’t at peace in his own life. Seeing how Colum deals with the divide in Clan Mackenzie leads Jamie to a realization about his relationship with Claire. Things get very steamy after Jamie and Claire’s relationship is mended.
Jamie just wants peace in his life and especially in his relationship with Claire who he is growing to love. I liked how the events with Clan Mackenzie paralleled Jamie’s relationship with Claire. He was able to learn and see things in a different way and grew throughout the episode. And since Jamie was explaining his thoughts, his actions with Claire were easier to understand when otherwise they wouldn’t have been if we didn’t get it from his point of view. This was another great episode for Outlander and a great start to the second half of the season.
Outlander returns tomorrow night on Starz at 9PM.
Can't wait
ReplyDeleteI was able to catch up with the first half of the season (last week, with a DVD rental) and loved it. So excited that the show will be back. I'm so ready to watch more of this season :)
ReplyDeleteThere are some tricky scenes coming up, I think everyone is just holding their breath to see how they play out on screen and how they are received by non-book-reading viewers. I'm only cautiously optimistic. But I haven't slipped to full pessimism yet. Letting Jamie narrate is a good move. It certainly will bring more action to screen.
ReplyDeleteLovely preview, thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
ReplyDeleteyeah it was a smart move, because in the book it takes a while to understand the reason why he made what he made, specially for our modern culture, but if they let us get into his head, things will be more understandable.
