NCIS - No Good Deed - Review: "Tony's relationships"

Tony's father once again stirred trouble when he visited his son to meet his girlfriend Zoë in the latest NCIS episode. Besides father issues, Tony also had some trouble going on with Zoë while he was partnered with her on the latest case.

And that case started with the death of Marine Lance Corporal David Austin, who was found dead with his motorcycle next to him. Ducky finds that his death was no accident, but rather had something to do with the bullet wound in his chest. Abby later matches the bullet to a gun that got lost during a botched ATF operation. Operation Fast and Furious, as it was called, resulted in 2000 guns ending up all over Mexico, with only 700 of them being recovered. Zoë gets the greenlight to coöperate with NCIS on the investigation. Meanwhile, Abby discovers that Austin's motorcycle was almost out of gas and that he couldn't have gotten all the way to Norfolk. He did pass a gas station, but he didn't stop. McGee and Bishop head to the station and find out that around 4 am, somebody swiped his or her credit card without pumping any gas. That turns out to be Austin, who looked at a car that was pumping gas and subsequently followed it. Apparently, there was a woman in that car who was asking for help and the Lance Corporal attempted to help her. Unfortunately, the driver, a guy named Jamie Rivers, killed both Austin and the woman. Rivers had been selling guns to drug users, but the team set up an undercover meeting with him and Gibbs shoots him when he pulls his gun.

Meanwhile, Senior comes back to town to meet Zoë. Tony is planning a dinner with the three of them, but when Senior arrives early, he says he will take care of it. However, that means Senior himself is cooking and that plan goes horribly wrong when he accidentally sets fire in the oven. Having screwed up again, Tony lets slip to Zoë that he's glad his father lives in New York. That night, Senior once again stays at Gibbs' place and he later admits that he wants to move to DC to live closer to Junior. However, it is now clear that Junior doesn't want him around. Gibbs later forces the two DiNozzos to talk to one another and Tony offers his father to help search for an apartment. The next day, Senior tells Tony he has found an apartment right above Tony's and Tony is clearly unhappy with this. At the end of the episode, Senior has realized Tony's feelings and tells him he won't be moving to the same building as him. Instead, Tony offers to let him stay a couple of days until they find a place for him.

Also, after the failed diner, Tony is unwilling to talk to Zoë even though they work together on the case. He even sends McGee in his place to MTAC, but Zoë catches him in the lie. Zoë later goes to DiNozzo's apartment to retrieve her sun glasses and finds Senior there, who tells her Tony doesn't commit easily. After the case is done, Tony and Zoë talk and both decide they want their relationship to work.

So this episode was better than the previous Senior episode, "The Artful Dodger". It did follow the same path as all the previous Senior episodes (he screws up, but Tony and his father later make up), but it still had a pretty fresh feel to it. I am glad Senior was in no way involved in the case and was instead a sidestory of the episode. With Senior moving to DC, I am only hoping that he and Junior will get more used to one another so they won't behave so weird around each other. I feel that their storyline is progressing in the right direction. The case of this episode was a good one. Tony and Zoë are nice together, thought I would have preferred to see more of their talk on screen. It was clear they were having issues in this episode, but it wasn't fully explained where they came from. It was only suggested by Senior that Tony had commitment issues, but that wasn't fully explored. I feel like they could have done more with Tony and Zoë's relationship issues as it remained rather superficial and vague now.
