Montauk - Ordered to Series by Netflix

Apr 2, 2015

Beverly Hills, Calif., April 2, 2015 – Netflix, the world’s leading internet TV network, has ordered Montauk, a new drama series written and directed by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines, Hidden). Eight one-hour long episodes of the series will premiere exclusively across all Netflix territories in 2016.

In the series, set in 1980 Montauk, Long Island, a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family, and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one very strange little girl. Montauk is a love letter to the 80s classics that captivated a generation.

“Matt and Ross are emerging filmmakers with an unmistakable passion for genre and suspense. Their unique voice infuses this coming of age drama with supernatural thrills that will captivate our global audience,” said Cindy Holland, Vice president of original content for Netflix.

The Duffer Brothers, who recently directed their first feature film Hidden for Warner Bros., are writing and directing the series, and will serve as executive producers along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen via their 21 Laps entertainment banner (The Spectacular Now, Night At The Museum, Real Steel, Date Night). Montauk is a Netflix production.

  5. And Sense 8!! Please let it be nothing like Jupiter Ascending, but more like Cloud Atlas ^^

  6. Yay. Sounds like a good Hemlock Grove replacement. Actually sounds like it could end up being better than HG

  7. Sense8 is one that I need to wait and see before I even consider being excited about it. SciFi is really hit or miss with me depending on how it's handled...

I will check it out, but I'm not overly interested just yet honestly.

  8. Agreed.
I liked Hemlock Grov, but I thought it never lived up to its potential in m y eyes. It was always just under being great for me... Different reasons in different episodes.

    Hopefully Montauk delivers more!

  9. When I read the title, I thought they're crazy and planned kind of The Affair spinoff. The premise sounds interesting, so I'm in.

  10. I love Montauk, I will watch it just because of the location. :-)

  11. I have only sampled season 2. I figured I'd wait until season 3 was nearly upon us and I'd start from the beginning and watch all the way through. Would you say season 2 is an improvement or about the same?

  12. I was planning on doing similar to your plans...
I've only watched Season 1 and planned on watching Season 2 prior to Season 3 being available.

So i can't compare the two seasons I guess....

  13. As it turns out, it's not limited to science fiction and is more about humanity....

    Interview - i09 - February 2

Andy: It's science fiction but it's more about humanity. It's about everything.

Lana: We wanted to make a thing that's about everything. We told Netflix we were like, "We're only interested in doing this. It's going to be so hard, it's not very much money. We're only interested in it if we can do anything. And I mean anything. Like crazy psychic orgies with all sorts of different bodies." And they were like, "Yeah sure, cool great."

  14. Well I was impressed with how they adapted David Mitchell's novel and if the idea is to follow suit, then I think it will be great, but I'm more scared about them deciding that shock and awe is more important than story... :p

  15. Sounds okay. I'm pretty familiar with the Montauk area, so that could be fun for me.

Also ordered by Netflix today: 'With Bob & David,' a spiritual sequel to the HBO early '90s cult, 'Mr. Show With Bob & David,' and 'Fuller House,' a 20 years later sequel to 'Full House,' focusing on D.J. and Kimmy.

  16. Intriguing, and it sounds like it's got the chops to actually be good. Plus Netflix has been doing ok in it's shows overall, so that's also promising... We'll see I guess, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for this one.
