From the last line of the second season. "I know Kung Fu." I mean, I think it was originally from the Matrix, but you add in actual fighting, especially the exact same little Buffy flip thing that Chuck did after he found first got the Kung Fu upgrade, and that's a Chuck reference.
It makes sense that they threw in a reference. Liv's "flashes" are a lot like Chuck's, even in the visual execution, so it's cool to see them acknowledge that a little.
I know "Kung Fu", I'm loving this show as soon as she said it and the little flip, and the visions and skills, I immediately thought of Chuck, if I wasn't already loving this show u would have been in an know this nod to one of my all time favs, thanks Liv, Chuck lives!!!:)
iZombie isn't a gigantic hit but it's doing better than at least three CW shows that I can think of. The real test is coming up. We need to see how many people tune in without a new episode of Flash for a lead-in.
Are your referring to three shows that have already been renewed on top of that? (seriously though... if iZombie gets canceled after hitting 0.7 in a midseason launch while Reign and BatB got survive the world will stop making any sense)
Looks like fun! And yay for finding out more about Clive. Also Liv should not jump to conclusions about people like that. I'm glad Ravi pointed that out.
Anyone else think Clive might be at Liv's appartment to take Peyton out on a date?
I no longer count BatB in with other CW shows when this topic comes up. It's just such a bizarre case that it's never a good measuring stick. I'm speaking specifically of Jane the Virgin, Reign, and The Originals.
I should also note that, according to TVbtN, iZombie's ratings have already flattened out. They didn't lose viewers from last week to this week.
See JtV and TO I kinda get: - Jane is a critics darling and an actual AWARD winning show, so yeah... I don't think the CW can afford to lose like the one show that has giving them this kind of credibility (something that even Gilmore Girls in it's prime didn't manage to give to the old WB). - And TO is a bit of a better and more mature version of TVD, which is aging... (please note the "a bit" part of what I said). Also Julie Plec, who is someone I don't think too much of, but she seems to be the CW's Shonda. It's not a compliment in my book, but I can it see how The CW heads would view keeping her around and happy as a good business endeavor.
Reign though? Eh.... it's just not hitting the numbers it should, so I really don't know how or why that got a second chance. (Great for the fans -don't get me wrong- and I'm personally happy 'cause I have friends who get employed on that show frequently, but really? I don't get it...)
And I won't argue with you about BatB... it's just such a headscratcher situation... does not make sense... like even if the international sales are awesome, domestically it's just... no... you know...?
Also YAY for that iZombie ratings news! Thanks for passing it along!
I get what you're saying about TO and JtV but they're so far apart in ratings from iZombie right now. That's why I mentioned waiting to see what the show does on its own and how close it dips to JtV and TO numbers. It might be too close for comfort for my liking. *fingers crossed*
I dunno. I haven't checked those numbers. Did you know TNT aired the first two iZombie episodes back-to-back on Monday night from 10 to Midnight? I don't know how the ratings fared for those either though.
It seems to be working so far. TVbtN had some positive ratings news about the show today: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2015/04/01/the-cws-the-flash-is-tuesdays-number-1-program-in-men-18-34/383087/
I think the big test is next week without Flash as a lead-in. If it can hold steady, then minus any major flaming out before the end of the season, I'd be really surprised if we don't get a renewal. If it dips more than a .1, then it could get interesting. It's lack of erosion so far has been encouraging, though.
As a question, if you put JtV, Reign and TO in the same category, where do you put The 100?
BatB confounds me. I do not understand how it got renewed before it even aired with the terrible ratings it's last season had. That boggles my mind.
I feel so sad because some shows like iZombie have a lot of potential. sometimes it's recognized (like with The 100 who didn't really hit its stride until they almost hung one their characters) but sometimes it's not. Other shows like Reign, I anticipate and then end up incedibly disapointed by them. I was just too weirded out by the plot. It was all over the place. There was court drama with assassinations attempts, family drama (I don't need to explain), something about a disfigured girl haunting the halls for no apparent reason and also multiple love triangles or squares between the royals, the aristocracy or gentry (never really sure what it was called at this time in France) and the servants. All of that on top of the fact that it was all based on an historical figure but was entirely inacurate about her life just... exhausted me. And of course those are the shows that never end for whatever reason
Well I think sometimes being willing to suspend belief in order to enjoy a show is not a bad thing.
For example I'm Greek, and even though Hercules and Xena were so inaccurate with respect to Greek mythology and history I still enjoyed them for the campy fun they offered.
From the get go, I saw Reign as period version Gossip Girl, and I can understand how that might appeal to some people. (It wasn't for me though). However the ratings reflect that even though Reign has found its audience, it's not a sustainable audience for renewal (again going by the ratings alone) so it getting renewed is a bit of a shock.
At least iZombie seems to be hitting the minimum requirements to get a renewal from the CW. And I hope they actually do pick it up for another season.
The fact that shows like Reign, that do have worse ratings got renewed is quite promising...
I agree with you about the Whole "suspension of disbelief for entertainment value" thing, but with Reign, it was just too much for me to overlook the outrageous. I feel like Reign got renewed despite its ratings because they have a very vocal fanbase. Unless iZombie gets the same kind of hype, it might still get the ax (even with the better ratings) . That's what I'm afraid of.
A vocal fanbase might be what got Reign renewed, but I guarantee you from a business model, higher ratings tend to trump vocal fanbase... If iZombie is hitting better numbers than Reign it will get renewed.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Oh, I'm going to like this episode. It's appropriately silly and we'll find out more about Babineaux.
ReplyDeleteSomeone made a Chuck reference! I'm so into this show.
ReplyDeleteThey made a Chuck reference? So awesome.
ReplyDeletewhere?!
ReplyDeleteFrom the last line of the second season. "I know Kung Fu." I mean, I think it was originally from the Matrix, but you add in actual fighting, especially the exact same little Buffy flip thing that Chuck did after he found first got the Kung Fu upgrade, and that's a Chuck reference.
ReplyDeleteSee above.
ReplyDeleteJust saw it. They even used the matrix line and eye flash camera pan.
ReplyDeleteIt makes sense that they threw in a reference. Liv's "flashes" are a lot like Chuck's, even in the visual execution, so it's cool to see them acknowledge that a little.
ReplyDeleteoh my God! i'm an idiot!!! LOL she just said it so fast that i didn't catch it, stupid, stupid, stupid LOL
ReplyDeleteoh yeah the Intersect 2.0!!! man what's wrong with me?! LOL
ReplyDeletegot that right! nice to have a Chuck fan here

ReplyDeleteNot taking that bet.
ReplyDeleteBut what are the odds on this sticking around? I'm finding myself starting to get attached.
I'm already getting really attached to this show. Fingers crossed for it to last!
ReplyDeleteWell it's been holding steady on 0.7 and getting positive buzz... I'm gonna be a optimistic about a renewal...
ReplyDeleteiZombie isn't a gigantic hit but it's doing better than at least three CW shows that I can think of. The real test is coming up. We need to see how many people tune in without a new episode of Flash for a lead-in.
ReplyDeleteNo one would take that bet because it's super obvious and nobody is that much of a masochist! :P

ReplyDeleteI want to think those decent repeat numbers it's been getting on Friday are a positive indication.
ReplyDeleteI dunno. I haven't checked those numbers. Did you know TNT aired the first two iZombie episodes back-to-back on Monday night from 10 to Midnight? I don't know how the ratings fared for those either though.
ReplyDeleteI actually had no idea about that! Interesting...
ReplyDeleteWell one thing is for sure: Warner is sure hell trying to put the show out there..
It seems to be working so far. TVbtN had some positive ratings news about the show today:

that'd be awkward LOL

I'm definitely not the only one on the site. I miss Chuck; it's so awesome.

I saw a commercial about it being on Snorri (?) now

Is that a streaming service?
ReplyDeleteI think it's a bit like Hulu

ReplyDeleteLiking show but thinking about the surface things like what messed up her hair cut and why the hoodies?
