BASED ON TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX’S CLASSIC HORROR FILM, THE OMEN
FOUR ADDITIONAL EPISODES ADDED TO ORIGINAL SERIES ORDER FROM FOX 21 AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER GLEN MAZZARA (“The Walking Dead,” “THE SHIELD”)
New York, NY— April 29, 2015 — A&E Network will premiere the new original scripted drama series, “Damien.” The hour-long drama from Fox 21 Television Studios and executive producer Glen Mazzara is a follow-up to the classic horror film, The Omen. Currently in production in Toronto, “Damien” will premiere a 10-episode season on A&E, increased from the initial six-episode straight to series order. The announcement was made today by Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President & General Manager, A&E and Lifetime.
“A&E’s unwavering commitment to high quality original scripted drama programming, coupled with the sizable fan-base for our hit series ‘Bates Motel,’ which so perfectly aligns with ‘Damien,’ make the network the ideal fit for this exceptional show,” said Sharenow. “We are thrilled with what we’ve seen so far and know that Glen and the creative team have even more story to tell in season one.”
The series stars Bradley James as Damien Thorn (“Merlin,” “Homeland”), along with Oscar® nominee Barbara Hershey (“Once Upon A Time”), Omid Abtahi (“Better Call Saul”) and Meganlyn Echikunwoke (“House of Lies”).
“Damien” follows the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the 1976 motion picture who has grown up seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him. Haunted by his past, Damien must now come to terms with his true destiny -- that he is the Antichrist. Barbara Hershey stars as Ann Rutledge, the world's most powerful woman who has been tasked with making sure Damien fulfills his destiny. Omid Abtahi portrays Amani Golkar, a close colleague of Damien’s whose fierce loyalty will be tested when he realizes who his brother-in-arms actually is. Meganlyn Echikunwoke plays Simone Baptiste, a woman whose life is thrown into turmoil when tragedy unexpectedly strikes.
“Damien” is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios (“Homeland,” “Sons Of Anarchy”) for A&E Network. Glen Mazzara (“The Walking Dead,” “The Shield”) serves as writer and executive producer via his 44 Strong Productions. Ross Fineman (“Lights Out”), who developed the project alongside Mazzara, executive produces through his company, Fineman Entertainment. Pancho Mansfield (“Queen of the South”) also serves as executive producer. Golden Globe® and BAFTA Award nominated director Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth) directed and executive produces the first episode.

Never heard of it LOL
ReplyDeleteWhere would it have been on the schedule? Lizzie is a "mini series" Devious Maids is a lead in for Unreal. Would they have aired it by itself later on in the year? I guess they could of matched it up with Witches of east end,oh wait...it's been axed.
ReplyDeleteWait...didn't they move the pilot from FOX to lifetime already? This show's getting around
ReplyDeleteDid they? That would have been interesting had it stayed at Fox, it would have been exactly a decade since their last Antichrist series lol.
ReplyDeleteKind of excited for this news as it's obviously not Lifetime's demo, they couldn't even keep WoEE which I'm still bitter about, but anyhoo, as long as the show still premieres this year instead of being held until next March I will be very happy, been looking forward to seeing this.
ReplyDeleteat least as far as I remember. At least it was considered on some network last year.
ReplyDeleteLifetime gave the series a direct to series order on Aug 25, 2014. Not sure if it was set up before that at FOX but I would rather see the cable version of the series and not the network version of the series.
ReplyDeleteExcited for this. Glad they moved it. Bates Motel and The Returned have been great, hope Damien has the same quality
ReplyDeleteNah. It was always meant for lifetime. Fox21 is behind the show tho.
ReplyDeleteDon't recall FOX having it as far as I know
ReplyDeleteBut wasn't it a pilot offered to some network? I do remember something like this
ReplyDeleteI just did some research and it was always at Lifetime with a straight to series order, but the show was developed under the creator's deal with Fox21.
ReplyDeleteokay, then I was completely off there
ReplyDeleteMy main hope is that it has a more complex mythology than the movies, I enjoy them but the story is mainly there to drive the slasher element it feels like. I always thought it'd make a great series though especially after the remake came out.
ReplyDeleteI grew up watching the original Omen and Damien: Omen 2. Great movies. I never liked the third one they did. I hope this new series stays true to the original movies.
ReplyDeleteIf you like creepy, you should seriously watch The Omen. The original. Not the 2006 version.
ReplyDeleteI did too. The Omen and Birds were my favorite scary movies at the time and are still in my top 5.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this doesn't hurt The Returned's chances of renewal considering that it has the advantage of being A&E's own in-house dramas and nothing more. The network really needs to develop a stable scripted slate and the more that it comes from its own studio, the better.
ReplyDeleteAs for Damien. I aired my concerns months ago about this show being too off-brand for Lifetime. I guess I was right. With the net still holding on firmly with its core female demo, I don't see the channel completely going co-ed in the near future unless it takes on a new name.
So does this mean you guys ARE renewing Bates Motel?!!!! I would feel better knowing that you will!.
ReplyDeleteI like the original films and even the remake was alright, but I am more interested in Let The Right One In and I do wish the best of luck for The Returned---just wish it would accumulate to something a bit more specific than it has...
It's a strong likelihood considering it still is A&E's best rated scripted show at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI like both a lot actually.
ReplyDeleteThe [past two seasons they had renewed it by now and also I worry because of what they did to Longmire....
ReplyDeleteIf Bates starts to skew far too old but rates awfully high on total viewers, that's when we should worry.
ReplyDeleteSo safe to say that The Returned will be cancelled and this will be paired with Bates Motel next season?
ReplyDeleteI feel that's quite a jump...
