Since Brooklyn Nine-Nine is returning next week (hooray!), I figured I’d bring you all a little catch-up recap before the last run of episodes for
the season.
First of all, Boyle grew a goatee named Bianca, which was swiftly shaved off by the precinct. Glad that was taken care of.
Elsewhere in the episode, Captain Holt presents the squad with a brainteaser, and the incentive of Beyoncé tickets. Although Team Smartypants (Sarge and Amy) are pretty convinced they’ll be able to crack it, the underdogs come through when Gina and Rosa realize that Holt doesn’t know the answer either. Gina ends up with the tickets when she helpfully suggests that Captain Holt tell his old captain to “suck an egg” when he inquires about the puzzle. Just goes to show that sometimes sass wins over smarts -- keep this in mind, kids, and one day you too can go to a Beyoncé Knowles Rock Music Concert.
In “Sabotage,” Jake finds himself in another frustrating situation, as he’s convinced that someone is sabotaging him after a series of unfortunate events regarding his apartment, and a failed drug test. Amy and Rosa investigate while trying to keep Jake out of the case into his own drug test. He refuses to back down until they leave him behind and Sophia’s (ex)-boss, Geoffrey Hoytsman, kidnaps Jake and ties him up in an ice cream van. Turns out that he can’t really kick the drug habit, and he blames Jake for all the pain in his life. It gets pretty serious for a bit as Hoytsman makes Jake record a “confession” video for all of Hoytsman’s crimes, and intends to kill him. Luckily Rosa and Amy realize that Jake wouldn’t have stopped annoying them willingly, and manage to find him and take down Hoytsman. Good teamwork Nine-Niners! Also, all the kudos to Jake for managing to stay relatively calm and under control while stuck in a psycho’s ice cream truck.
Since Jake is suspended/investigating/kidnapped, Boyle has to work with Scully & Hitchcock on a case. Which they actually manage to solve! Turns out they can do some detecting once in a while -- but don’t let word get around, because they’d really rather not. It’s amusing that they think their basic competence is valuable enough to the squad that they’d never be able to not-work again if people found out. Honestly, is it very difficult to fire people in a police precinct? They’re not even good office drones like Jerry from Parks and Rec. But I guess every workplace has some immovable dead weight, and Scully and Hitchcock are the Nine-Nine’s.
Coming off of these last two stellar episodes, I’m sure the last four will be jam-packed with action, laughs, and maybe even a little bit of romance. What are you guys hoping for in the end of the season? Anything you want to see, or don’t want to see, before the season comes to a close on May 17th?
Check back soon for some teasers for the upcoming episode, “AC/DC”!
