ReplyDeleteIt is never going to be ATOM. The news might be leaked to keep the buzz alive. There are too many important characters in this show to call it ATOM. Hawkgirl, Rip Hunter, Sara's character, FIRESTORM if we are lucky.

ReplyDeleteI was expecting something more like "DC heroes" or some name that represents the team up instead of one character. I don't hate The Atom but I don't like him either and I don't think he has enough appeal to carry a show. Firestorm would have been better.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other posts: The ATOM is an awful choice for a name, if they go with it. The problem with the Guggenheim/Berlanti team productions is that they are so beholden to DC that they can't be truly inventive. Given that, DC may be dictating the name for this spin-off show. BTW, naming it The ATOM once again shows the male-centric bias at work: it marginalizes the Caity Lotz (Canary?) character, by proclaiming in the title that the show is all about a Male Hero.

ReplyDeleteThat is an unnecessary declaration of sexism. Fair point if it were the final title of you're referring to its ensemble cast, but it's pretty out there to say marginalization over one character (of the many) not included in a tentative title.

ReplyDeleteThe production "may" be about to shoot. From Twitter, it appears that all of the actors are assembling in Vancouver. It may be for a "guest" shot on either Arrow or Flash--but, it's just as likely to be to begin filming the pilot episode.
ReplyDeleteTentative titles are there for a reason, meaning they are in consideration. The fact they are even considering naming it "The Atom" is a little absurd.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the pilot will be shot this early. They have lot of time as this one is a guaranteed pick up and the show starts only mid season. They might shoot the pilot before SDCC though and screen it there.

ReplyDeleteI agree: they want to make a Big Splash at SDCC in July, so they're shooting the pilot (or some scenes) now. I expect a Spin-off Panel, maybe even the first Official Announcement of the show's name.
ReplyDeleteI have to point out that again literally nothing has really started filming wise, characters were just announced, it cooulf have been called this when it began and they're not changing it to prevent any sort of spoilers for now. They seemed really tight lipped about it before.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is Ray will meet with Sara in the final episode of Arrow and Hawkgirl and Rip Hunter will meet with the rogues or Stein in the final episodes of Flash. They can use these shots for the upfronts. My belief is they will declare the correct title during upfronts.

But other than revealing some the actors and some characters we already know about, has CW actually said this will be a TEAM UP show? Or are people making assumptions? If so is it not possible that this may be a show centered around The Atom with Brandon Routh as the series lead?

No. Its going straight to series. They might shoot the premiere episode before SDCC to feature there. Instead of back door pilot they will sprinkle these characters in both Arrow and Flash during the first half of next season. The during mid season these characters will join in the new show.

I hate it when people say Ray/ATOM criticism is due to shipping. There are some who does that. But very few here. That character is just a third leg pit stop for a romance with a cool suit. He was isolated with Felicity and was not explored at all. I like the character personality but his journey was boring. Hence the dislike.

ReplyDeleteI do think earlier next season we will get a two hour cross over between Arrow and Flash with all these spin off characters. They will not call it back door pilot but may be an event. I am not sure they have script for series premiere yet. My guess they have a rough idea what is going to happen and character profiles worked out.

I personally never saw the point in the character other than to create unnecessary conflict. If he had debuted on The Flash as a rich businessman who wanted to save the city, I would have bought it. On Arrow I always felt he was like a kid playing dress-up. He just has no concept of what it means to put on the suit. I feel like the Flash where Barry is in a similar spot, would have made the two stories more worthwhile.

Also Robbie might want to concentrate on his movie career now since his move DUFF was a success. I will be disappointed if it happens. The blow can come without character death too. Imagine Cisco becomes vibe or Caitlin becomes Killer Frost due to something RF does and they become unpredictable or they are unable to control their powers. That will give the show some sober moments. Also if they are doing Flashpoint in the last few episodes then there will be enough deaths and mayhem without it affecting the over all picture.

ReplyDeleteI'm a huge Arrow fan as well. I was drown by the cast so much and fall in love with the show!!! Can't wait for this season and next season and hopefully a bunch of seasons going forward.. Supergirl is one of my top 5 pilots, even though I'm not a fan of the lead.
Would they give up on the opportunity to show the premiere to SDCC circles and create the buzz. I think like this only because they are in the same universe as Arrow and Flash. If it was any other show they won't shoot the premiere until later.
ReplyDeleteI agree. He doesn't need to die but there needs to be some sacrifice because it can't always be sunny in CC. Sometimes they are going to have to face moral dilemmas and lose people. I think it opens the door (I would like) to see Oliver and Barry have that conversation. Just as Oliver is figuring out his identity crisis, Barry needs to learn it's not all about putting on a mask and zipping around. I think their conversations can really add to both shows since they have unique perspectives. Those were my favorite scenes in the crossovers.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! I forgot about the back to back panels. Arrow had a dedicated panel to it where Willa was the only female actress present. Others joined later on for the joint panel. Did Flash have an individual panel too at SDCC last year? I don't remember. The joint event was lots of fun.

ReplyDeleteWhat choice do they have? They don't have a pilot order which means they don't have any money to film anything just yet. So unless the CW forked over some cash to order a 15-20 prospectus they can't film anything unless they use Arrow/Flash related stuff.

ReplyDeleteWe don't get much costumes here in Saudi Arabia. We will have custom make them otherwise. I am visiting Swiss and Paris late this year. I will hunt some costumes for him there if my husband don't go mad because of me by then LOL.
That was my prediction too. I don't think Sara will come back due to Barry's time travel. It has to be Rip Hunter who brings her back. But I hope it happens on Arrow. It would be disappointing of her second debut happens on Flash.

ReplyDeleteMost Arrow fans dislike the Atom/Ray because of his storyline with Oliver. The Atom superhero is far from uninteresting, when they give the character a bit of time it should be good, they only have to develop it away from Arrow but I agree the Atom should only be a working title.

Okay, but isn't the thing that we already know perfectly well that there will be enough drama, sacrifices and Arrow like stuff? Can't we just appreciate it for as logn as it lasts that The Flash is semi-stable? Does it really already have to become dark, somber and everyone against everyone like Arrow or something to be good?

And to say that it's always sunny in CC kind of makes me think you haven't really been paying attention either...
Then again, I wouldn't really say that it has ANYTHING at all to do anymore with Oliver having an identity crisis, just always letting the wrong people get way too close, causing himself to have no other choice than to give into their way.
Not to mention that making the Flash as dark and somber and all that shit like Arrow now is, and AOS for example, is kind of defeating the whole purpose of the show too, because making that too much of those things, will totally ruin it.

ReplyDeleteNow, seriously, how lazy are they? If it were a spinoff based solely on Ray it's the obvious title, but on an assemble? something just doesn't click there...
I actually disagree with your premise. I'm not saying the show should get 'dark' or that it should get shadowy and terrible like Arrow. I'm saying there is always a cost with leading that kind of life. So far, really Barry doesn't have the girl. He's lost nothing since becoming the Flash. He's made no sacrifices. He has his job, his family, his friends, his life but has made no tough decisions. Everything has worked out 100% other than being with Iris.
ReplyDeleteEvery single superhero show has some loss. Smallville didn't go to shadowy darkness when Jonathan Kent died. It simply taught a lesson and helped Clark on the path to become the man he became.
I don't want the Flash to become Arrow. I want it to be its own show but I think there needs to be a sense of balance. Heroes do not always win or get what they want or have everything come up roses. Sometimes there needs to be pain and suffering. I think the Flash might handle it well when they do the mother storyline.
Also when I said "Central City is always sunny", I was referring to the fact the heroes always win and there is no moral dilemmas. They are just going into that on the Flash and I'm excited to see how they handle it.
Did they even think about it?

ReplyDeleteExactly! I mean I get why they named the Flash, the Flash because well it's about the Flash!!! But you have like 10 big characters and that's the name you go with? It's either a lame lazy attempt at a working title or they are trying to provoke the fans to create a buzz. Or both!
I wouldn't be surprised if it was just to create buzz... Or maybe they saw the whiplash coming if they went along with the name they originaly thought of and wanted to test the waters. Or maybe all those super heroes are just red herrings because the audience didn't respond to Ray the way they wanted, and they are trying to hype the show that way, since only the Atom is not going to cut it... Who knows, whatever it is, it's working as publicity, so well done...

ReplyDeleteI find him likable. Not a huge fan though. His arc was pointless romance third wheel this season. But I am sure he will do well in the new show.

ReplyDeleteI never disliked him. But found his arc rather boring because he was just there as a lovetrop. He is good for Felicity although I rather like her with Oliver. Ray became immediately interesting when he got to interact with other people.

I don't hate Ray, I've already told you that, but poor Brandon Routh carries some sort of curse for doing that godawful Superman Returns movie, I'm not sure anything with him in it can succeed... I feel really bad for him, because Ray really make me laugh, but unless the show relies heavily on the other characters, it will eventually bomb.

ReplyDeleteI don't think it's only the movie; I've seen him on Chuck, Partners and now Arrow and he's not talented enough to lead his own show.
I liked the aesthetics of the movie, the photography, even the costumes, but the movie was really... weak and comic-y. I'm not sure that makes sense, but Kevin Spacey's Lex was awefull! and the mockery that was supposed to pass off as humor, just didn't work for me. It was very bad, IMO.
ReplyDeleteI can't speak for him on Chuck, because I think I had already stopped watching by the time he showed up, or did he had a thing with Sarah? If I saw him, it must've been around the time I stopped watching because I can't remember him.
I think the guy has a good comedic streak, so maybe he could pull off a half hour sitcom, but I don't think he'll be able to pull off an hourly action/drama show.
Relax people. That's just the working title if anything.

ReplyDeleteYou are talking about Oliver right? Not Ray? What I was saying was Oliver made a team where he was the superior and it was his mission. Things changed this season but that is how it started. Ray's team will most probably be consisted of equals rather than side kicks and underlings like Team Arrow.

ReplyDeleteI went to a pediatric Oncology wing once and I couldn't sleep properly for two days. I wonder how these people work there day in and day out. I could never. I will be depressed. Engineering is well and good for me.
ReplyDeleteDjokovic is precious. He is one player whom I assessed wrong when he started his career. I remember telling my husband Djokovic will never dethrone Federer and my husband told me wait for one or two years. He is wonderful.
Jankovic is fierce. I love her too. Me and hubby are huge tennis fans.
Oncology is tough, no matter children or adults. Those people deserve all honors they can get. People don't realize how tough that is.
ReplyDeleteI never thought Djokovic would rise to these heights. He is extraordinary, supernatural, I have no word to express my admiration for him and what he has achieved. I hope he'll get that Roland Garros this year. He most certainly deserves it. It's always nice to meet a fellow tennis fan(s).
I was a huge Nadal fan and my husband was a Federer fan before Djokovic rose to his success. I remember it was in an Australian open during quarter finals when Djokovic retired due to heat fatigue. I told my husband he does not have the stamina to be number one. Two years later the man comes back with such a bang. Such a reinvention. Its awesome. I hope so too. He deserves to have all four titles under his name. Such an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't hold my breath on another name. Lets take an example from AMC's library of shows. Fear the dead was supposedly and i use the word loosely be a temp title for the show but ultimately ended being called Fear The Walking Dead.

ReplyDeleteAh Andy Roddick. Best example of American arrogance. I always remember him for the Wimbledon final he lost against Federer. It was a great match and Federer was not in form yet he beat Roddick. He was so bitter.
ReplyDeleteThe way Djokovic changed his diet and increased his fitness and stamina is always an inspiration for me. We are really blessed to live in this era when we have so many legendary players. I feel for Andy Murray. If he was born 5 years later he could have been world No. 1 and maintained that position for some time.

ReplyDeleteDjokovic does everything right and sometimes look at all his what he does and think how can he still work so hard, when he can't enjoy his success atm. He will enjoy it when he retires but that is 4-5 years away. Atm he is just work barely any fun. I admire his will power.
I'm not a Murray fan, he is such a turn off. He is arrogant and to whiny, prefer not to watch his matches. He has talent but is quite frustrating to watch.
