While I may not particularly agree with how this is playing out, at least Arrow has created a situation that makes sense for the character here.
ReplyDeleteWhat Roy is doing falls in line with his character's impulsiveness and his well-established guilt over the death of the officer. This may not be my favorite character or subplot but I understand why Roy is doing it and that is a lot more than I can say for the actions of many characters this season.
He has started to watch Daredevil,of course more action less romance.Im not going anywhere tho.

ReplyDeleteIts a good series. There was not much "romance" because they were establishing characters, if it gets season 2 they will probably delve into Karen/Mat's relationship.
ReplyDeleteI think so as well but I think Daredevil is more hardcore so thats the pull.I love Daredevil as well but I think that even if the explore their relationship it will not be as blatant as The Arrow.
ReplyDeleteDo I think the romance level has gone up, yes, has it completely taken over the show, not really, is it too much, yes. I agree with your ex, they do need to tone it down, I am hoping that once they get through this "stage" it will way the hell mellow for s4. but this is the CW.
ReplyDeletealso, its geared toward an adult audience that understand the nuances of an adult relationship. (plus their is just plan out the box tragic//doomed) With Arrow the bulk audience is 18-24 so they have to hit them on the head with it and be blatant to get an understanding.

ReplyDeleteYou and me both. At least back in season one when Quentin had it out for Oliver the first time, Arrow portrayed him as a diligent detective who was good at his job. That all changed in the last two seasons and not for the better.

ReplyDeleteRealistically, Arrow would have less romance too if they could only send 13 hours in trying to tell what was their 23-episode season. Daredevil was fantastic, but that's just the truth when it comes down to it. Arrow has a great balance of both, imo.

ReplyDeleteReally? B/c I don't think that's true at all. Sara was very likaeble, a fan favorite if you will, and they killed her anyway. So I disagree with that theory of yours. In some cases sure, they do like to bring down a character before they kill them, but not in this case.
ReplyDeleteAs for Quentin dying, I'm the minority on that one. (But it would make sense) I honestly don't want to think about that. But I do agree that a character that has plummeted usually asks "for forgiveness" right before they're about to croak. But it's too cliche. Personally i'd feel better if he wasn't given the chance. Actually i'd feel better if Oliver wasn't there at all while (hypothetically) Quentin was dying.

Right, CC has a "nice" office/station. that is fine that is the "aesthetics" of that world. But in reality more stations look like Starling. They are not "fancy" and look like stark basements, crowded, old, smelly etc... and just because they look like that the cops all have guns and there are cameras everywhere.
again, I am speaking from experience and that just because something "looks" a certain way does not mean it lacks for tactical and vital equipment.

ReplyDeleteYou can speak from experience, and I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, but when we are talking about the fictional SCPD, then yes, there is a reason why they wouldn't have cameras in their grimey station. John Diggle said when the first series began of how they're under funded, and it makes sense why there aren't any cameras.

ReplyDeleteAs much as I liked Daredevil I love Arrow for the family feeling it gives. I feel more for the characters of Arrow because I love all their inter personal relationships. If it is a movie I am fine with the Daredevil approach. but when it is a tv show I like a blend of action and character moments.
ReplyDeleteI watched the first 5 episodes. Its very high intensity and awesome show. Very tight script, likable characters and awesome action scenes. There is a cinematic quality to the show. Violence is there but I think you will like it very much.

ReplyDeleteI'm arguging from more of logic or logical point of view. I get that they said in passing "underfunded" it is just unrealistic and lazy writing that I hate. It bugs me, and it happens a lot on this show, and others, they sacrifice logic/common sense for a scene to look good.

ReplyDeleteIt could happen in Starling City. Apart from budget SCPD is not a very good police force. In which city they will give up a part of their city to be taken over by criminals. Also mayor lets some one like Ray Palmer to have influence in city's decisions. From first season it is clear that the rich in Starling City has lots of power inside the judicial system. Just last episode even with Quentin breathing down their necks Laurel was able to let team Arrow in to meet Oliver. So lot of mal practices happens with SCPD.

ReplyDeleteIts not just the titular character. Its the others too. Be it Foggy, Karen, Claire, Urich... I am not attached to any of these characters. I will not despair if anyone of them is written out. Where as in Arrow I would cry for every one of them. For example the Thea/Oliver relationship on Arrow is one of my most cherished relationship on this show. That is the difference between the tone for both shows. I like them both but I like the Daredevil approach for movies and Arrow approach with less focus on romance for TV shows. But since Daredevil is on Netflix and we can watch it in one go it works very well.

ReplyDeleteSara was introduced in the pilot (although yes different actress) and The Lance's plot revolved around her in the beginning, that makes her just as important. She was pretty layered. Not to mention extremely popular. (More so than). I felt she was right up there with Quentin. When/If Quentin dies, it'll be hard on the fanbase, just like it still is for Sara. Which is why TPTB want to bring her back in the first place. She could've easily stayed on the show. But that's besides the point. (not gonna get into that) Anyway, Only difference is, they won't be bringing Quentin back, so the effect will be worse. It'll be really sad.
Gotcha.Im the opposite.I wouldnt be too worried if any of the cast were killed if and only if it adds to the storyline.When Sara was killed ,I wasnt bothered because it was for the Black Canary story arc.

ReplyDeleteHer character had importance but Caity failed to give her the needed layers (I liked the character but hated Caitys performane, I loved her on Death Valley but she's not a solid actress).
She certainly was more popular than Quentin will ever be, she had open cleavage, no character with this much exposure would not be popular (I'm not being sarcastic here, show some skin and it doesen't matter how well you write a character, fanboys will drool over her....wich is why I was surprised when they didn't reveal more skin with Laurels suit)
However I feel like the issue with Quentin is that he might (note: might) have run his course. We went from love-hate-love-hate in a circle and it seems like they can't keep Quentin as a Gordon but a villain to Oliver

Who cares if I don't wear glasses and care for my body? I think I've seen more TV than other people.....got carried away there.
The jokes weren't funny either PLUS: they got their Halo lore wrong, Master Chief was not a playable character in Halo: ODST (am I now a legit geek? No...damn)

True Caity was not the best actress, but she was improving. Also she's more of a dancer and a natural born athlete, with the skills to have easily taken on the role of Canary. which she did. I mean have you seen her home vids? That woman is a beast. I never watched her in anything else, but i think she did a fine job, and she sold it, enough. Actually she sold it a lot, based on the uproar of her departure, and the need to bring her back. With more acting lessons, she could go places.
As far as Quentin, well we'll just have to wait and see. But i'm literally not waiting for it. It'll happens when it happens, and i'll have tissues.

ReplyDeletegotta love Oliver's expression when Ray high-fives him. The arrow cave is a huge problem for Roy, Oliver and the rest. there should be plenty of evidence linking all of them to team Arrow's actions. so far Lance didn't have a lot to actually prove that Oliver (or Roy) is the Arrow.

ReplyDeleteI was so ready for an episode of joy followed by three of angst, heartbreaking and to spend the entire hiatus sad. This is the exact opposite, I'm so happy right now.
ReplyDeleteThat still might happen. A speeding truck can appear out of nowhere and hit them. Or a parallel to the premiere they get hit with a rocket from a helicopter! I'm not trying to be a downer but remember "Low expectations" we don't want to set ourselves up for a major disappointment.
