ABC Family continues its original programming momentum by greenlighting two new pilots: the comedy "Gorgeous Morons" and the supernatural drama series "Beyond." These two pilot greenlights come hot off the heels of the network picking up saga series "Shadowhunters" and single camera comedy "Kevin From Work" to series.
"Quality comedies and epic adventures are key elements of our programming strategy," said Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development. "The teams behind these pilots have a history of creating amazing series in those genres, and I am thrilled to have them creating for ABC Family."
From ABC Signature Studios, "Gorgeous Morons" is a half-hour multi-cam comedy that focuses on two stunningly handsome but ridiculously simple brothers - one is a model, the other a personal trainer - who find their lives rocked by their brainy new roommate, a female literature PhD whose looks are, by their standards, in desperate need of help. "Gorgeous Morons" is co-created and executive produced by Emmy® Award-nominated Lee Eisenberg & Gene Stupnitsky ("The Office," "Bad Teacher," "Hello Ladies," "Trophy Wife"), alongside former "The Office" head writer Danny Chun ("Happy Endings," "The Office," "The Simpsons"). Chun is penning the script.
"Beyond" is a one-hour drama about a young man who wakes up from a coma after 12 years and discovers new supernatural abilities that propel him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy. From Imperative Entertainment and Automatik, "Beyond" is created, written and executive produced by Adam Nussdorf ("Once Upon a Time in Wonderland"). Tim Kring ("Heroes"), Zak Kadison, Justin Levy and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones will serve as Executive Producers.
Part of the Disney/ABC Television Group, ABC Family is distributed in 94 million homes. ABC Family entertains and connects to audiences with bold, relatable programming that celebrates the epic adventure of becoming an adult, from first kiss to first kid. ABC Family's programming is a combination of network-defining original series and original movies, quality acquired series and blockbuster theatricals. "WATCH ABC Family" is an authenticated service which allows viewers with participating TV subscription services access to 24/7 live viewing of the network, as well as continued on demand access to such popular series at home and on the go via a wide array of devices. ABC Family is also the destination for annual Holiday events with "13 Nights of Halloween" and "25 Days of Christmas."

keep it coming...... we need more tv comedies and tv dramas and less of that reality tv crap
ReplyDeletethey are REALLY trying to have supernatural shows on ABC Family. First Stitchers and now Beyond, they both sound AWESOME as all heck but ABC Family's track record with supernatural shows is not the best: Kyle XY, Ravenswood, The Nine Lives of Chloe King. Kyle XY was the somewhat lucky of the three, it got 3 seasons but STILL got cancelled, so i'm not holding my breath for Stitchers and Beyond
ReplyDeleteDamn I'd love to see Beyond. Really hope that gets a series pickup. As for the comedy, if the dudes they pick are actually hot, and not the typical CW/ABC Family generic, WASP-y type hot I will try to sit through it for the eye candy.
ReplyDeleteA few months ago especially after RW I never thought I'd be saying this but if ABCF keeps in this direction they could once again be serious competition (in terms of quality) for The CW.
Georgeous Morons sounds like a Reverse-TBBT.
ReplyDeleteCw does have hot guys in their shows what are you talking about?
ReplyDeleteThey have lots of good looking guys but few truly "hot" or "sexy" guys IMO. Like I said, the casting directors seem to go for very generic pretty. Let's see. We have Jensen Ackles, he's pretty hot. Steven Amell. And Rahul Kohli from iZombie. JD Pardo from The Messengers. Lincoln from The 100. And that's it.
ReplyDeleteKinda does. Though Penny is sorta street smart...
ReplyDeleteI'do trust ABCfam to deliver on the multicam comedy front so I'll keep an eye out for Gorgeous Morons.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem the network is trying to branch out in their content and get in the genre game. Hope it pays off, because Beyond does sound interesting.
I guess it's all relative. Just like Penny isn't really dumb, the female character looks just fine but put together with the brother, she might appear subpar.
ReplyDeleteOh lets be completely honest here: she'll be a perfectly pretty girl who wears glasses...
