12 Monkeys - Arms of Mine - Advanced Preview

12 Monkeys brings its first season to a close with “Arms of Mine.” The episode is written by series creators Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett and is directed by David Grossman. There is a lot of pay off in this episode as much of the plot circles back to previous episodes. However, there are a couple of big questions that aren’t answered and a lot of balls thrown in the air which we’ll have to wait to fall when season two airs. Hopefully, Syfy won’t keep us waiting too long, though it’s not scheduled until 2016. In addition, Matalas and Fickett – who have provided many of the best episodes this season – will be replacing Natalie Chaidez as showrunners.

This episode is beautifully structured between 2015 and 2043 with much of the action running parallel in the two time periods. After last week, Cole (Aaron Stanford) is not happy with Aaron (Noah Bean). Cole and Cassie (Amanda Schull) attend yet another private Markridge function – just as they did in “Splinter.” They run into Jennifer (Emily Hampshire) who is happy to see Cole and still doesn’t like Cassie. Pay particular attention to what Jennifer is wearing in this episode. Cassie ends up in the red forest. Olivia (Alison Down) and Ramse (Kirk Acevedo) reach their end games. And Ramse and Cole are reunited.

In 2043, Deacon (Todd Stashwick) leads another assault against the facility. Stashwick is simply delicious as Deacon. Jones (Barbara Sukowa) takes desperate measures, and Whitley (Demore Barnes) proves his value again. I’m really hoping for more of both Stashwick and Barnes next season!

There is at least one major death in the episode and other lives hang in the balance. Look for not one but two standoffs. And we get to meet a character that we’ve heard a lot about but haven’t seen yet.

Here are a few dialogue teases:

“I don’t have time for your crazy bullshit!”
“Sometimes, science is literally like watching paint dry.”
“There are no straight lines.”
“They are lean but mean.”
“All of this is preordained, scripted by time, unmoveable. Because there is nothing more powerful than fate.”
“It’s a delicate balance, and it ends today.”
“Sometimes the choice isn’t even yours. It’s fate.”
“You’d do horrible things.”
“Atari.”

I hope that whets your appetite for the season finale! You won’t want to miss this episode as it brings the first season to a pretty satisfying conclusion – though you may be tearing your hair out over the wait for the second season… “Arms of Mine” airs on March 10 on Syfy at 9/8c.
