“THE X-FILES” RETURNS TO FOX
Emmy Award-winning Pop Culture Phenomenon
From Chris Carter Is Back as Six-Episode Event Series
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to Reprise Their Roles as
FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully
Thirteen years after the original series run, FOX has ordered the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES, a thrilling, six-episode event series which will be helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.
The announcement was made today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group and Chris Carter, creator and executive producer of THE X-FILES. Production on THE X-FILES event series is set to begin in summer 2015. Further details remain under wraps and will be announced at a later date.
“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”
“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of THE X-FILES – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” remarked Newman and Walden. “THE X-FILES was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as THE X-FILES, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”
THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

Holy fuck. My hands are shaking. Holy fuck. I am so excited.
ReplyDeleteOn my lunch break from studying and this was the best way to find out!!!! I remember I was in kindergarten watching this before going to bed on Friday nights.
ReplyDeletewhat? Is it 1st of April already? Is date on my computer set wrong?
ReplyDeleteGreat news...
ReplyDeleteI caught some episodes here and there and watched the film but unfortunately, I never watched X-files in its entirety. I am looking forward to watching these six episodes having gained a new appreciation high for Gillian Anderson over the years since X-Files has ended.
ReplyDeleteSame here, never watched every episode, but I'll watch this. Gillian Anderson is wonderful to watch.
ReplyDelete9 seasons and two movies...have fun!!
ReplyDeleteGained a huge appreciation for the x-files after it was off air (wasn't old enough to watch at the time) so I will absolutely be tuning in! Should be fun
ReplyDeleteX-Files was my favourite show for a long time... I am not sure how I feel about this as the last few seasons were awful and the last film? Terrible. Still the potential is there and I know I am going to have to watch it regardless!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, here's hoping that it doesen't just stay at six episodes.
ReplyDeleteAnd despite people disliking them: I'm kinda hoping for Dogget and Reyes to return. IMO they were likable and worked well with Scully and Mulder
So which iconic series would ABC and CBS revive?
ReplyDeleteLost for ABC. No suggestions for CBS
BEST. NEWS. EVER.
ReplyDeleteYes! I love Doggett and Reyes and am pulling hard for them to return.
ReplyDeleteGhost Whisperer for CBS? Lost felt very final to me. I was thinking Ugly Betty for ABC. Just a thought though.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to believe that if Heroes Reborn does well for NBC, they will remake Friends in order to salve their comedy department
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, YESSS!
ReplyDeleteI guess I should finally watch the show then, its probably the biggest gap in my TV history and I've had the first 2 seasons on DVD for years now.
ReplyDeletegreat news. Now time to get back to mytholgy.
ReplyDeleteWith 24 and now x-files fox has jumped the revival of past shows as limited episode events.
Me too. If it does well they will probably give it another season. UTD was meant to be a one season thing so...
ReplyDeleteYes! I'm so happy right now. I loved the X-Files.
ReplyDeleteI hope they make it a stand-alone series.
ReplyDeleteThey said the same about 24: LAD and see what we have now? A major cliffhanger
ReplyDeleteI know right!? FUCK YEAH!!!
ReplyDeletebeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteLOST can always be rebooted: a bunch of people (portrayed by former LOST alums) crash on an island. All have different personas than we knew them from (so it's accesible for new fans) slowly the group begins to realize that their memories aren't real, slowly revealing that it's still the same universe as the former LOST seasons meaning that the crash is happening again and again until they do as the island truly wants them to...
ReplyDeleteABC: Alias (Sidney is forced to team up with Sark since Michael and their kids were kidnapped by a mysterious goverment financed organization)
CW: Buffy/Angel (Faith awakes from a coma only to realize that the "apocalypse" from Angels final episode ment that demons took over big industry heads and now are exploiting humans who think that they're living a normal life. Meanwhile Angel and Spike were memory wiped and humanized as well)
CBS: Moonlight
~ I hope The Smoking Man's in this one...
ReplyDeleteSix eps.
ReplyDeleteThat's true I suppose.
ReplyDeleteSure they can revive Lost but it'll never be the same.
ReplyDeleteCBS could revive The Rockford Files or Magnum P.I.. They have a slew that they could revive. Not saying they should mine you!
I can think of a handul of big-ish completed series for CBS, but all have issues...
ReplyDeleteDuke of Hazard? Movie franchise exists already...
Mission: Impossible? Movie franchise exists already...
The Equalizer? Star is dead, but premise may work....
Maybe...
Simon & Simon? At least both leads are still alive. XD
Rockford Files reboot? Bring back Josh Holloway!!
Great, great news \o/
ReplyDeleteAnd it should have stayed that way.
ReplyDeleteSix episodes constitutes a series these days? Ridiculous...
ReplyDeleteI heard this might happen, but to have them actually make it official....it's so freakin' exciting! :D
ReplyDeleteOMG! This news just made my freaking day! So excited to see Scully and Mulder again!! I think it's time for a rewatch ;)
ReplyDeleteThe series finale in 2002 was terrible. Hope these 6 episodes will right the ship.
ReplyDeleteSci fi! I'm In.
ReplyDeleteSo freakin excited! I hope we get the entire show on Blu-Ray too. :D
ReplyDeleteCBS: A new Star Trek TV series
ReplyDeleteABC I say no to Lost, it wouldn't be the same and the original story ended. Maybe classic like Miami Vice or Cheers.
CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletePardon me while I do a happy dance!!! I wonder what stories they're going to use or what characters will be back. Can't wait!!!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteI've only seen part of the first season and the movies, but I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteoh my f***ing god .... *runs in the streets screaming*
ReplyDeleteDear Fox, I LOVE you!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAny word on Skinner?
ReplyDeleteI liked them too.
ReplyDelete!!!
ReplyDeleteАlong with Twin Peaks, now there's two great clasics that are getting revived. I've tried watching them, but both left me a bit disappointed and it's really irritating that I want to watch the new seasons but not the old ones. I just can't get into them, as perfect and right for me as they sound.
ReplyDeleteAn "event series", which is basically a fancy way of saying mini-series, yes.
ReplyDeleteAlias would be a great event series for ABC. It finished out with low ratings, but it's been on Netflix and accumulated more viewers. Nostalgia works miracles sometimes.. and it's the kind of show that would generate a lot of hype and could work well as a single mini-series arc.
ReplyDeleteABC could also do an entire series with doctors who have left Grey's Anatomy. Starring Katherine Heigl, T.R Knight, Sandra Oh, Isaiah Washington, Chyler Leigh, Eric Dane, Jeffery Dean Morgan (when Izzie's tumor comes back), Kate Walsh, Brooke Smith, Kim Raver, Loretta Devine (when Richard's tumor comes back)..
ReplyDeleteI adore the two of them so dearly and The X-Files means the world to me but I don't know how to take this news.
ReplyDeleteI'm fangirling so bad right now!!!
ReplyDeleteStill high-fiving a million angels.
ReplyDeleteI hope he isn't. I try so hard to forget CSM's Mulder bio dad.
ReplyDeleteHope Gillian Anderson actually dyes she hair back to red again for this and not just wear a wig, as realistic as wigs are now they to me still look artificial and fake.
ReplyDeleteAHHHHH AHHHHHHH THANK U GOD FOR THIS I NEED THIS SHOW LIKE I NEED AIR TO BREATHE
ReplyDeleteSimon & Simon and or the Equalizer would work today. I thought i remember reading in one of the trade papers Kojak was being remade.Don't know what happened with that?
ReplyDeleteAm I died and went to heaven?!
ReplyDeletereally?!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy the original actors are doing it. I wasn't going to be jazzed if this were just some remake. Can't wait to see Mulder and Scully again.
ReplyDeleteAlias would be a really cool revival, it not like Mrs. Affleck has much going on these days. But IMO leave the other two dead and buried.
ReplyDeleteFarscape for NBC/SyFy,
ReplyDelete'Space - Above and Beyond' was pretty cool "one and done" 90's sci-fi on FOX
ReplyDeleteI started watching Grey's Anatomy from the beginning and almost done with s10 lol
ReplyDeleteYet no news out of 24 camp lol
ReplyDeleteYes!
ReplyDeleteBeen tooooooooo long.
........................ The Truth Is Out There !
That's great news. I was actually hoping that they changed something about it (like hiring new actors), but I guess most fans would want the show to remain as is.
ReplyDeleteOMG Its official. They are coming back!!! The truth is out there people.
ReplyDeleteIf this mini series works out well I would like a spin off from it with new actors and new stories.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched anything but random episodes of The X-Files but this has only 6episodes so I will watch the new ones when they come :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see this so long as the casting was solid. That was one of the issues with 8 and 9 (not the only issue of course).
ReplyDeleteGreat news! I'm so excited. Scully is still one of my all-time favorite tv characters.
ReplyDeleteWith only six episodes, I imagine it'll be hyper-serialized?
ReplyDeleteKeep going! Season 11 is even better.
ReplyDeletePLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteKojak had a reboot a few years ago on USA Network but didn't fare well.
ReplyDeleteThere's gonna be another season of that nextsumer.question is how involved will Kiefer Sutherland be because Dana Walden and Gary Newman (CEO of FOX Television) said that they are moving forward with or without him
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that my favorite show will return!
ReplyDeleteoohhh farscape....great show, fun show...
ReplyDeleteI admire your perseverance. I used to be able to do that. Nowdays, I prefer shorter series with shorter seasons.
ReplyDeleteThey actually are? :D
ReplyDeleteThat's great to hear.
You know, I would usually be bummed because of Sutherland not returning but after they released "Solitary" on the BluRay I'd actually root for a season about Tony breaking out of prison.
I couldn't care less who returns (well obviously I'd love to have Chloe and Jack back) as long as they bring Tony back full-time. What purpose did it have to kill him, bring him back, kill him again, bring him back again only to then lock him up to never see him again?
so happy, its one of those rare shows that can actually stop for so long and then come back and still be amazing
ReplyDeleteAs soon as David Duchovny started scaling back his involvement, then the show went to Pot. For me the show always revolved around the settlement plan (with the Cigarette smoking man) and his rebels.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Cigarette Smoking man?
Im excited and worried at the same time. Will they bring back in their son? Will their relationship be over? How much involvement will there be with the FBI ? (AND considering how much of the actual X files paperwork was destroyed in the fire).
ReplyDeleteSkinner back? I had been thinking Kersh.
I'm glad everyone from the original team is back... still not sure if this necessary... or even a good idea...
ReplyDeleteLol,well i guess that didn't last a season. I don't even remember seeing a promo for it! :P
ReplyDeleteAhh yes, Ving Rhames as Kojak...
ReplyDeleteNever a good idea to remake a series where the lead actor's personality was literally what the show was about! XD
Frankly, even though I am one of the people more open to remakes and reboots, I am growing tired of all these recent shows being remade - Even something that was as great as The X-Files!
I think there was a Denzel Washington film called the Equalizer last year as well, but I did not see it. Not entirely sure it followed closely to the original seires...
ReplyDeleteWow. What a nice way to wake up this morning to see.
ReplyDeleteI'm shaking. I was too young to see it when it originally aired, and became a fan around 2008. I'm just excited to see new episodes with everyone else for the first time ever.
OMG!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey could just do a next generations with buffy's daughter as a new slayer.
ReplyDeleteCSM is probaly dead, but will return as a clone or a form an Alien takes. I hope he stays dead though.
ReplyDeleteCan they bring back Alien Bounty Hunter guy? I havnt seen BrianThompson for years!
ReplyDeleteyes i want him back too, his last appearance was on the alien ship with mulder at the start of season 8 right.
ReplyDeleteIt so strange to see X-Files on the current shows list under FOX. Although I love it, because x-files can finally be apart of the current spoiler-tv fun here, for shows airing currently now.
ReplyDeleteI so want X-Files to win the tv show cup in the next 2 years. With the show airing again, it should make it further this time.
A-mazing!
ReplyDeleteYup, thats the last time I remember seeing a version.
ReplyDeleteI think so. We never got serialized apart from the two or three mytho eps
ReplyDeleteThe first show I've ever been obsessed with. Still in my Top 3! Can't believe it!! Sooo excited! :)
ReplyDelete
