I think Cordon and Cheerleader Death Squad are sure things at this point.
Elsewhere, I don't know what to make of Tales of the Dark Side. I could see them picking it up but seems a bit off brand.
Then there is the truly off brand one, Dead People, which I really cannot see picked up. It is clearly a W25-54 show, seems like a Forever redux and an ABC show in general, I have no idea how it would fit with the CW. Unless the description really is failing at capturing the full potential of the show, I think it won't see the light of day.
I don't see the CW picking up 5 shows (these 4 + DC Comics spin-off show). They only picked up 4 last year and this year they have an even greater volume of shows returning.
I think Cordon is a safe bet due to JP, plus it has a black leading duo which I think would be a first for the CW.
I feel like Tales From The Darkside might go ahead too. The CW expressed interest in that Friday The 13th show which makes me think they really want a horror show. So unless it's completely terrible, I could see it going ahead.
Dead People and Cheerleader Death Squad are the 2 I'm not sure of. CDS will entirely depend on the tone. It could either suit the CW or be completely off brand. While Dead People just seems completely off.
I think "Cordon" has the best chance, I'm sure the CW wants to stay in the Julie Plec business.
You know, given the critical success of "Jane the Virgin" and the cancellation of "Hart of Dixie", it's kinda surprising there's no lighthearted, non-supernatural dramedys among the pilots.
Isn't Cheerleader Dead Squad supposed to be just that? I was never a regular viewers of DH or Devious Maids but the little casual episodes I've watched I was under the impression that was exactly the style of Marc Cherry.
Not necessarily. I think it depends on the tone/ spin they put on it. B99 is the perfect example of a police show that is entirely a comedy despite the subject matter. There is also Mom on CBS, probably the best example out there of how subject matters do not define the tone of the show. I am expecting something light, dramedy style.
I'm not denying "Cheerleader Death Squad" sounds like it will have a lighter, dramedy tone. But it also doesn't sound like it's in the same category as "Jane The Virgin" or "Hart of Dixie".
Last year they picked up Jane the Virgin, The Flash, The Messengers, and iZombie right ? ( they cancelled Star-Crossed, The Tomorrow People, and The Carrie Diaries )
Yes, that is correct. You could also argue that Beauty and the Beast was taken out of the equation somehow by being moved to the summer so not competing in terms of space it occupies with the remaining shows.
I am interested in: - DC Comics Spin off show - Limitless - The Catch - Fresh and Blood - Cordon - Minority Report - The Kingsmakers - Quantico (maybe) - Blind Spot - Endgame - Game of Silence - Heroes Reborn - Super Girl
Maybe more that I don't remember. But these lists are always very preliminary to me. Normally, I do tend to like the ones I mention at this stage (with some exceptions), but I tend to add others that I like much better when I see the trailers and all. Casting is also still undergoing and that makes me interested in some projects too. Comedies I am incapable of telling for the most part without having more information (trailers, casting).
i think cw might wanna do what amazon is doing these days .free sample all of the shows onlne and see which one gets most praise and move on from that.
Cordon is pretty much lock for pick up because of Julie Plec, though it's the least I'm interested in, knowng how she likes to ruin the shows. For the others I have no idea :D
Cordon,CDS,Arrow/Flash spinoff and one more since I doubt they'll pick up more than four but I'm not sure which of Tales from the Darrkside,Dead People would get picked.
Is the Superhero Spinoff Hour being developed for fall or midseason? It might be smart to run it during the parent shows' hiatuses, like ABC did with "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Agent Carter".
Catch is Shonda. Flesh is by a writer that has worked on Grey's and Scandal but according to Variety " David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Laurie Zaks will exec produce for Mandeville Television."
Cordon-Plec and based on a foreign format. CW would be crazy to do more than 16 episode seasons. Cheerleader-Premise is so outlandish it could be horrible or good. Dead People-Alexandro Chandro is a good actress would like to see her in something else. I think the first two are very likely almost locks to be picked up , this could go either way. TFTD-this would really surprise me it gets picked up.
The show is all about execution , it could be really fun and maybe a modern charlies angels the abc remake screwed it up, Jane the virgin was a show everybody though was a bad idea and it ended up becoming a critical hit for the cw , even picking the first golden globe nomination and win for best actress for Gina , JTV critically has opened a lot of doors for the cw to be recognized more. CDS sounds a bit funkyand ridiculous but l think thats part of the attraction it could potentially end up being a pleasant surprise, Alan has the chops to carry the show , so the casting seems to be good. CDS sounds much better than ABC's entire pilot slate this season which feels been there done that.
I actually don't believe it has better chances than Cordon. I am more exited about CDS however. And I do think it will get picked up (Cordon too, obviously).
It's not on the list (though I'm assuming that's because the poll was probably submitted before that news broke) but I think the DC spinoff is more or less guaranteed a pickup.
From this list I can see Gordon getting a fair chance because of Julie "CW LOVES me" Plec's involvement, and because David Nutter is directing (and his track record for picked up pilots is exceptional). However I don't know exactly hos a good a show that will actually be...
My gut also tells me Cheerleader Death Squad is a good contender.
Dead People could go either way...
And I think the ONLY way TftD will only get picked up if it's slated to be summer run...
I think a lot will depend on whether or not both the Messengers and iZombie get picked up
(which doesn't seem likely... one of them's gotta go, and my money is on the Messengers getting the boot... which sucks cause I don't think they'll even try with that one...)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I think it very likely that all 4 could be picked up, but if I had to choose the one which wouldn't go forward, it would have to be TftD

ReplyDeleteTotally forgot about the spin-off.

Yeah I was expecting 'First Lady' to get a pilot order due to the critic success of Jane The Virgin.
ReplyDeleteAh no problem. I can never forget about that show lol. Easily my most anticipated pilot already, by miles and miles and miles.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Cheerleader Dead Squad supposed to be just that? I was never a regular viewers of DH or Devious Maids but the little casual episodes I've watched I was under the impression that was exactly the style of Marc Cherry.
ReplyDeleteI agree on Dead People being totally off. I can't see that working on the CW, at all.
ReplyDeleteMarc Cherry's other shows did have lighter touches, but the premise of "Cheerleader Death Squad" is a much bigger-than-life one than those two shows.
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily. I think it depends on the tone/ spin they put on it. B99 is the perfect example of a police show that is entirely a comedy despite the subject matter. ReplyDeletei thought Chris Wood was the lead for Cordon?
ReplyDeleteLast year they picked up Jane the Virgin, The Flash, The Messengers, and iZombie right ?
ReplyDelete( they cancelled Star-Crossed, The Tomorrow People, and The Carrie Diaries )
http://deadline.com/2015/02/cordon-cast-cw-pilot-david-gyasi-christina-moses-chris-wood-kristen-gutoskie-1201380471/
ReplyDeleteApparently the leading duo are David Gyasi and Christina Moses. The others are also main characters but not the central leads.
Yes, that is correct. You could also argue that Beauty and the Beast was taken out of the equation somehow by being moved to the summer so not competing in terms of space it occupies with the remaining shows.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that does seem likely.
ReplyDeleteI can see Cheerleader Death Squad wish they change the name though make it shorter or Cordon maybe Dead People
ReplyDeleteSame here. The vast majority of the pilot crop just sounds so...bad.
ReplyDeleteI see you believe in CDS the most. I wish you were right, it is by far my most anticipated pilot.
ReplyDeleteI think :
Superhero Team-Up : 100%
Cordon : 95%
CDS : 90%
TftD/DP : 30-40%
I am interested in:
ReplyDelete- DC Comics Spin off show
- Limitless
- The Catch
- Fresh and Blood
- Cordon
- Minority Report
- The Kingsmakers
- Quantico (maybe)
- Blind Spot
- Endgame
- Game of Silence
- Heroes Reborn
- Super Girl

Well, Jane The Virgin has a murder mystery or two too.
ReplyDeleteI haven't even heard of Cordon or Dead People. Are they renamed pilots?
ReplyDeletei think cw might wanna do what amazon is doing these days .free sample all of the shows onlne and see which one gets most praise and move on from that.
ReplyDeleteOnline sampling and praise is poorly correlated with ratings.
ReplyDeleteWait, what's the Dead People and Cordon ones? I haven't heard of those.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think CDS has better chances than Cordon?
ReplyDeleteCordon is pretty much lock for pick up because of Julie Plec, though it's the least I'm interested in, knowng how she likes to ruin the shows. For the others I have no idea :D

ReplyDeleteBoth! Ahah
ReplyDeletewell then i guess i m wrong.
ReplyDeleteMidseason
ReplyDeletehttp://www.spoilertv.com/2015/02/the-spoilertv-2015-exclusive-pilot.html
ReplyDeleteRaina covered them here :)
Cordon,Arrow-The Flash Spin-off & Cheerleader Death Squad.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteHa, the one I thought sounded the worst is winning. Maybe i'm getting too old for CW.
ReplyDeleteLOL Really? ABC should just become the Shondaland Network lol... I think The Catch is the one I'm interested in though... Kingsmakers sounds good too
ReplyDeleteI think Shonda herself is only involved in one of them though (don't remember which) but both are Shondaland.
ReplyDeleteYeah kind of like HTGAWM, she's just the producer really
ReplyDeleteYeah exactly.
ReplyDeleteI'm so confused why Cheerleader Death Squad is the one people are looking forward to most, it seems like the worst to me :/
ReplyDeleteCatch is Shonda. Flesh is by a writer that has worked on Grey's and Scandal but according to Variety " David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Laurie Zaks will exec produce for Mandeville Television."
ReplyDeleteThe only good thing about it is Alan van Sprang, but I wouldn't watch it even for him.
ReplyDeleteCordon-Plec and based on a foreign format. CW would be crazy to do more than 16 episode seasons.
ReplyDeleteCheerleader-Premise is so outlandish it could be horrible or good.

Cordon and TFTDS should be picked up. those 2 sounds most interesting as per the synopsis and actors
ReplyDeleteI actually don't believe it has better chances than Cordon. I am more exited about CDS however. And I do think it will get picked up (Cordon too, obviously).
