Untitled Superhero Team-Up Show - Will Feature A Distinct Villain Who Has Not Been Used Yet

If the new spinoff is picked up to series at the CW — which seems like a safe bet, given the success of its predecessors — it will feature previously established heroes and villains from “Arrow” and “Flash,” including “Arrow’s” Brandon Routh, as Ray Palmer/the Atom; Caity Lotz, who portrayed the (seemingly dead) Sara Lance/Black Canary; “The Flash’s” Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein/one half of Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond, the other half of Firestorm played by Robbie Amell, was not announced as part of the spinoff’s lineup), and Wentworth Miller as villain Leonard Snart/Captain Cold. The show will also introduce at least three major DC Comics characters who have never been in a television series before.

“In picking them, it was very much about picking, ‘who are some of the most popular characters we’ve created?’ and also, tonally, who went with who? How disparate could we make it?” Berlanti explained. “And we’re also introducing these three new characters that we’re casting right now… I think it’s really important that we have another female hero on the show, and this one is really exciting. I can’t wait for people to find out — we just have to cast it right, as always. And then you want that Rat Pack-y kind of vibe of all this crew hanging out, as disparate and as different as they are.”

Both “Arrow” and “Flash” have already featured some of DC’s most iconic villains, including Ra’s al Ghul, Deathstroke and Reverse Flash, and it was important for Berlanti to find someone equally worthy for the new spinoff, which means he’s focusing on “making sure that the villain that we have on that show is distinct too… another big character who hasn’t been used yet.”

  1. I am really hoping that Emily Kinney as bug-eyed bandit will join this as regular

  2. I am so hyped with this project. I love what Berlantti said about wanting it to have the feel of the crossovers and the team spirit thing. So looking forward to it. Plus, Caity Lotz!

  3. Who do you want for Caity to play? Sara was my favorite Arrow character but for her to be alive again it would be very confusing. I read some theories about BArry changing timelines but i think it would be very confusing since it would have huge influence on 3 shows

  4. Sara was also my favorite Arrow character so I would prefer her playing her. I would however prefer to avoid a resurrection. I am not totally against it if done extremely well but it is hard to pull it off well and not lessen the stakes of the show moving forward. So my favorite theory is that Barry creates a new timeline somehow. That wouldn't mean anything for the current timeline though so I don't think it would have a huge influence on the flash and arrow. Did you watch Fringe? That show is a prime example on how to pull of an alternate reality universe. They could do the same here. In theory, the characters would exist in both universes (except for those who died on one of them, such as Sara) and they could still find a way to do crossover episodes if there is a way to crossover between worlds (most likely through Barry).

  5. Here's hoping the other female hero they are casting is that of Wonder Woman.

It can't be Wonder Woman since the 3 characters haven't appeared on TV before. I assume that just includes live action but Wonder Woman had a live action TV series in the 70's.

  7. I dont think it will be Wonder Woman, as shes sorta in the Batman and Superman category, of characters they just cant use on TV. Smallville had this issue with Woman woman and Batman cant appear.

Plus shes so major for a female hero, she should just get her own show.

  8. The world of magic fits pretty well in Arrow universe according to Guggenheim

  9. Can one of the characters please be The Question? This group needs a conspiracy theorist investigator character.

  10. I think that would be my favourite way to do it. It could also give actors from the other shows a chance to crossover and play a different version of their character. Some evil versions of characters we love would be awesome.

  11. “In picking them, it was very much about picking, ‘who are some of the most popular characters we’ve created?’ Ray completely fits this category.

  12. Yep exactly. Can you imagine the potential? A bad Felicity? Oh god!

  13. Well, I think the difference is that Ray was created for a spin off, the other ones just came in handy because they're trying to gain some much needed hype. IMO, they need to stop with the superhero shows, it they keep up with them they'll tank because people will see them everywhere and get tired without even giving them a chance.

  14. That's my problem with the whole bringing Sara back storyline... by now she must have decomposed quite a bit, which should rule out the Lazarus Pit. A clone? I hope not, leave that sort of thing for The Flash. AI? I wouldn't mind and AI that looked like Sara, but then that would be Sara no the Canary... I don't know... there's just no was of bringing her back without damaging Arrow's BC storyline even more...

  15. Bringing Sara back would be a really awful move, I would by any story besides it really being Sara. But just rewatched the new Flash trailer and Joe and Lance are digging up a body, so it seems like it could be Sara. Would be understandable for Joe to visit Starling. But how did he know?

  16. Emily has joined the second season of The Knick. Lets hope she can guest star.

  17. Why would they dig her up? I don't get that... They don't even know her... what's the point?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I assume he got a hint or something, he must get a hint to come to Starling. It's all really well under wrap. Will be odd all around!

  19. You just ruined my dream :(
Is it going to be a regular role? i can't find any articles

    ReplyDelete
  20. But again, she'll be badly decomposed, the pit wouldn't heal that. You know what I hate? The fact that they are pulling rabbit out of a hat just because they regret killing her off because the fandon liked her. Stick to you decissions, people!

  21. She could be Atom's Felicity :(

  22. I wouldn't be sure it's her body in the grave. Maybe this is just a decoy overall and Sara is kept prisoner somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  23. But she was really dead, we saw her body, it's not like they could magically switch her in the seconds between her being on the roof and her being on the floor, unless aliens are involved of course. Once upon time I would've laughed at that, but since they obvously have a habit of not only going back on their word, but changing storylines when they don't pan out exactly as they'd like, why put it pass them?

  24. Who knows I really have issues with coming to terms with that! We'll have to sit back and to see what they'll bring to us.

    ReplyDelete
  25. As long as it doesn't influence Arrow at all, I can turn a blind eye and pretend that show doesn't exist. I'm ok with that.

  26. I know it is bugging me as well. I like Caity but bringing her back will mess with Laurel's story and it just started. If they turn her into another DC heroine I really wouldn't mind but there is only place for one Canary in my mind. And my loyalties are strong.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Finally someone that stands with me! Go Laurel!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I stand for fair play mostly, besides being a Laurel fan.
They had enough time to change the route with Laurel, turn her into a different DC heroine, like Raven, Chesire and others but no they choose to kill Sara and turn her into BC so srick with it. There aren't 2 BCs and they shouldn't be.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I hate how they're playing with both as if saying "we have it our way with Laurel being BC, but you also got it your way with Sara being back as the Canary, just on a different show"... I blame this on social media... there was a time not so long ago when show creators had a vission and they could see it through without death threats, cyber bulling, and loud crazy people telling them what's best...

    ReplyDelete
  30. They need to come out with something a hell of a lot more creative than yet another superhero show.

  31. ANOTHER female hero, Sara's HAS to be playing Sara!!!!!!

  32. As much as internet hang outs like twitter and tumblr dislike Ray most of the critics has given positive response to Ray. I still remember reading reviews from earlier episodes of season 3. IIRC only TV.com criticized his methods in hiring Felicity. Everyone else was gushing about Ray. Initial response was overall very positive.

  33. Another female hero. Go Berlanti. You are awesome. So this new villain is going to be the big bad. The more I hear about this it feels like format will be the whole season comprising of preventing a catastrophic event instead of villain of the week.

  34. Crossing my fingers for Ms. Katherine Kane...

  35. Great, I wasn´t able to watch Flash, yet, because I stopped watching Arrow and would miss important information for it. Now there is another connected show that will have crossovers.
