The X-Files revival is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Fox is close to giving an official green-light to a revival of their iconic science fiction series, which originally aired between 1993 and 2002. Per sources, the network has settled on a “short-stack” order for the revival and while the exact size of the order is yet-to-be-determined, I’m told it will be less than ten episodes It should be stressed, however, that talks with sister studio 20th Century Fox Television are still on-going.
As TVWise previously reported, the revival is aimed to close out the lingering storylines left by the series proper, which, much to the dismay of fans, were left unresolved by the second feature film I Want To Believe. I’m told that Fox landed on the “short order” for two reasons. The first being story requirements – a conclusion that execs came to after prolonged discussions with Chris Carter.
The second – and an equally important one – was scheduling. The feeling was that it would be easier for the always in demand Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny to schedule a block of time to shoot the revival with a short order. The duo, who were always committed to doing more X-Files, have, sources say, agreed to reprise their roles.

Given that Anderson and Duchovny are so dedicated to that franchise sets this revival under a good star. Let's hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteStill waiting for a Buffy/Angel revival to wrap up that Angel cliffhanger (and no, I don't count the comics as canon)
I've heard of X-Files but never seen it. I heard that involves horror. So as a horror fan, would it live up to my expectations?
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with this, as long as Gillian Anderson and David agree to do this. Or else I would say that they shouldn't mess with it. I'm hoping its somewhat good.
ReplyDeleteGood thing they want to give the closure the movies failed to give. As long as Mulder and Scully are back, I'm in.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how FOX would schedule this. 6 episodes is quite a strange order. Maybe they could use it to bridge Gotham on Mondays or timeshare with Masterchef Jr. on Thursdays in the fall.
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOD. I will take this over th
ReplyDeleteWell, this is interesting. At least Gillian and David are on board with it.
ReplyDelete6 episodes would also work as an event series during sweeps.
ReplyDeleteAs a kid I never watched the show cause I was to afraid. ^_^
ReplyDeleteThis just seems a bit to rushed and forced. But who knows they maybe have a good story to tell.
So is this a continuation, reboot or a same verse show.
I believe Joss Whedon doesn't count the comics as canon either. He's mentioned in interviews that if he does get to create a sequel then he wont be following them.
ReplyDeleteI personally want them to get that Buffy The Animated Series back into production. Apparently half of the scripts for the first season are ready and just sitting there waiting to be produced.
It's pretty much like Supernatural only replacing the supernatural aspect with extra terrestial and the siblings with two agents that also are love interests.
ReplyDeleteIt follows the same formula. Now..not sure how much of a horror fan you are but the earlier seasons feel kinda laughable for todays standarts.
It's not too creepy but it's on-par with SPN and AHS (leaving out the gore AHS has and it's basically a semi-creepy show, not too creepy)
It depends what storylines they focus on for the new series. There were some brilliant horror stand alone episodes. Do you have Netflix or Amazon Prime? You can watch on there. My favourite is probably Season 1.3 and 1.21. Watch the pilot and those 2 episodes for a quick introduction.
ReplyDeleteThe aliens/conspiracy storyline wasn't that scary, but it's interesting. Not sure how well it'll hold up today though.
Good, because while the comics are fun to read, they're just stupid to a point I'd rather count them as fanfiction. Illyria turning into a giant squid was the last straw for me...or Spike leading space pirates...
ReplyDeleteI heard but given that animated shows require a lot of work to get rolling (artstyles need to be set, models need to be created) it'd be easier to get another live-action show going. Animation is easy to produce en-masse but only after all the ground work has been set (but since there's already a pilot they sure had most of the assets, so I don't see why CN doesen't pick it up).
But given that SMG isn't doing too much these days and Bones might be ending soon a new show in that universe could work. I would've tried to pitch my script for a pilot if only I got close to Whedon in any way (basically the demonic breed has taken over and are now posing as big business types, everyone had their memories whiped and Angel/Spike were turned human to explain their aging. Faith however has been in a coma ever since the apocalypse and now awakes, ready to get the gang back together to fight dem demons)
Not well, visually wise the earlier seasons don't hold up and that takes a lot of the creep factor. But it's good for a nostalgia rewatch
ReplyDeleteProbably won't check it out then. I love a good horror especially if its a classic.
ReplyDeletei never get to see the end of this series,. My dad loved it. The movies are kinda good. Lets see how this goes
ReplyDeleteAs least David and Gillian would be coming back. It wouldn't be the same without them.
ReplyDeleteIt's no longer on Netflix, it got taken off at the beginning of the month, not sure if it's still on Prime though.
ReplyDeleteI mean... at least the original team is coming back together... but... really?
ReplyDeletewell, what are you meassuring the horror factor on? What are "your" horror flicks?
ReplyDeleteAs though what maclives affirmed is pretty much what x-files is, besides the mytharc (a great arc involving extraterrestrial theme that happens across the 9 seasons), there are the Monster of the Week episodes that you'll find to be creepy enough and have the calssic feel you're about.
ReplyDeleteIt's still on Netflix when I search for it. Check again.
ReplyDeleteyes, Buffy herself could come back but others, who are suppose to immortal like Angel, probably couldn't or shouldn't. I think too much time had passed and it would seem silly for many to be trying to play a certain age when clearly they are long pass it. Don't get me wrong the guy who played Angel looks great but doesn't look 26 (the age Angel is suppose to be when turned)
ReplyDeleteIt would be fine to play in that world's sandbox again but maybe a new adventure/crew would be best.
well...season 8 and 9 pretty much lacked both of them
ReplyDeleteI'm just hoping that they finally release a full BluRay boxset including all 9 seasons + both movies + Lone Gunmen season 1 + all 3 seasons of Millenium
Like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Scream, Insidious, a mixture of things but mainly slasher films or anything that looks good.
ReplyDeleteYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS *faints*
ReplyDeleteOHHH YESSSS I CAN DIE HAPPY One of the greatest shows ever finally gets a real ending dont screw this up writers
ReplyDeleteAs long as David and Gillian are on board, I am for it. This was my favorite show back in the day.
ReplyDeleteI know what I'll be binge watching!
ReplyDeleteThere's no way they'd ever get Spike back in a live-action role either, James Marsters is aging not so great. (I was taken aback when he popped up in Witches of East End.)
ReplyDeleteYou should check it out simply for the sheer number of series it has inspired since it premiered. Plus it's pretty much an equal blend of science fiction and supernatural/faith-based stories, usually shows will lean one way or the other but X-Files handled it all.
ReplyDeleteYay! Really excited about this, hope it happens sooner rather than later.
ReplyDeleteAnd now it's a possibility in the span of one calendar year we could have four horror procedurals airing on FOX: The X-Files, Sleepy Hollow, Lucifer, and Houdini and Doyle... But that all depends on scheduling details I suppose, and how long it takes X-Files to make it to air. (And if Lucifer gets picked up, which I think is a strong possibility.)
you also have to take into account that he was older then almost all the cast when filming and by the time his run ended (on Angel) he was round about 42/43 playing a guy in his 20s, so good on him.
ReplyDeletenow in his 50s and looks fine.
Then you must be blind or stupid.
ReplyDeleteEverything I've ever seen from Joss is that the comic "seasons" are canon.
ReplyDeleteAnd I liked the way "Angel" ends. Didn't need it tied up in a happy bow.
I'm scared to get excited. I don't know how I feel about this. Don't mess with Mulder and Scully.
ReplyDeleteAre you retarded? No, The X-Files is nothing like that Supernatural piece of crap and by that I mean it's not a horror show for tweens. And, oh yeah, today standards are so high, right you 'modern' imbecile?
ReplyDeleteNo, you shouldn't watch the show. You're too stupid.
ReplyDeleteNot to feed the troll, but stfu.
ReplyDeleteI guess you are the one that is stupid
ReplyDeleteNeed to say this...Screw you troll, no one was talking to you. If I'm stupid, what does that make you? Hmm? Grow up and go b**** your attitude somewhere else.

ReplyDeleteI guess if the can give a good close to story that's fine. The X Files was a great series and I hope Chris Carter can do it. The last two years were awful and the movie atrocious. Both Anderson and Duchovny have busy schedules if this goes thru do not expect it till next year.
ReplyDeleteUm, you are completely wrong. David Boreanaz is only 45 years old as of 2015. He's not in his 50s. He was only 34 when Angel finished, and 27/28 years old when he first appeared in Buffy.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm ready for this.
ReplyDeleteI love the series even if the finale and the second movie were pretty bad. For that, I think we deserve a proper ending, and maybe they could undo/remake/reboot the last two season Thay had great moments (specially season eight)
Sorry I can't edit the typos.
ReplyDeleteSeason eight had great moments and season nine... not so much.
But most important, Mulder & Scully are X-Files (sorry Dogget and Reyes), and is unacceptable that one of them were missing.
Sorry for the typos, but I can't edit from mobile.
ReplyDeleteSeason 8 had great moments, but Season 9... not so much. But most important, Mulder & Scully ARE The X-Files (sorry Dogget and Reyes), and for me is unacceptable that one of them is missing.
Or he has his opinion and you don't have to agree with it. No need to get so heated up and aggressive about it. Geez, people, respect!
ReplyDeleteGood to know. I tried S8 and S9 and they were atrocious. I don't count them as canon (even if they say they are).
ReplyDeleteBut I don't know, I love how Buffy ended and even with a cliffhanger Angel had a good one too.
A revival won't be the same now. I think I prefer to see a Fray tv series or movie (and a proper connection between them in comic form, just a miniseries with NO MAGIC crap).
Hmmm, well being a slasher/occult horror flick fan myself I wouldn't consider XFiles as part of that genre. However it's a fun show to watch when you've got nothing better to watch.
ReplyDeleteAs far as movies go, try "The Purge", the most recent Chucky flick (Curse of Chucky) and As Above, So Below.
I actually loved Reyes, Dogget was slowly growing on me. Had they wrapped up the alien mythology I would not have minded following new agents a few more seasons.
ReplyDeleteIf Gillian and David do this, I'm on board.
ReplyDeleteHopefully that awful reboot idea has been scrapped. Look forward to this.
ReplyDeleteMitch Pileggi, too please.
ReplyDeletei felt the opposite...liked Doggett, didn't care for Reyes. Robert Patrick had great chemistry with Anderson, though right from their first scene together.
ReplyDeleteThe conspiracy arc ran out of steam in Season 5. Didn't care for the super soldier storyline at all.
It's my personal favorite show of all time. I would recommend at least checking out a few episodes (in order).
ReplyDeleteThe scheduling for Gillian Anderson is going to be a pain. She's doing season 3 of Hannibal on NBC and just got the greenlight for a third season of the Fall for BBC which films in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I'm not sure what else David Duchovny has on his plate, but Anderson is going to be insanely busy. I'm ecstatic about this show no matter how many episodes it's going to have. :)
ReplyDelete"I WANT TO BELIEVE!!"
ReplyDeleteYes, please. And also, I happen to like the second X-Files film, and really did felt like a self-contained full featured one-off episode. Hopefully, this new series would finally give closure to the franchise itself.
They will probaly leave x files for march-may. But they can easily put it back on Sunday and just leave simpsons and family guy off the schduele for 6 weeks.
ReplyDeleteI never hated them either. They deserve to appear in one episode for closure. Plus why not more allies.
ReplyDeleteFall is 6 episodes and shots next year and Hannibal is 13 episodes shot late 2015 . So she's free to shot in summer maybe.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the point if the actors can only commit to short order seasons of under 10 episodes. It falls under filler in scheduling and if they want to tackle this, it needs a longer stretch of episodes.
ReplyDeleteSeason 3 of Hannibal will premier June 4th 2015 so no it wont be shot late 2015. There probable already under way shooting
ReplyDeleteyes my bad thats correct 2014 not 15.
ReplyDeleteRjupiter was talking about James Marsters (who's 52), not David Boreanaz.
ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting for a Charmed revival.
ReplyDeleteright, and I didn't say the guy who played Angel I said Spike, who we were talking about. try following the conversation/replies before jumping the gun.
