  • 15:33 - Daredevil - Vincent D’Onofrio Interview
Collider: Your casting in Daredevil seemed unexpected, but totally perfect. How did you get involved with that show? Was there any sort of casting process that you had to go through, or did they just come to you about the role?

VINCENT D’ONOFRIO: There were discussions. I wasn’t sure about it. I knew who Wilson Fisk was, but I only knew what the Marvel movies were like. The thing about Daredevil is that there are no superpowers. We needed to have a discussion, so Jeph Loeb and I talked about it. That first phone call with Jeph Loeb, and then the second one with Jeph and Steven DeKnight, is when I was convinced that it would be okay to do. And then, I read the first couple of scripts. Wait until you see the series. Whether you’re into that kind of thing or not, it is definitely a Netflix series. It’s Marvel and Netflix coming together with this great new take on things.

How would you describe the tone and feel of the show?

D’ONOFRIO: The series just came out so good. It’s like a 13-hour film. Emotionally, it goes places that I don’t think anybody is going to expect. Unlike the movies, except for maybe what [Robert] Downey does with Iron Man because there’s a lot of emotional stuff with that, this gets truly deep. Everybody’s motivation comes from the core of who they are. There’s not one false moment in the whole thing. They all have very deeply thought-out, emotional lives that drive these people. It’s pretty cool. I’m very proud of it. It was unexpected, and I didn’t know I was going to have the time I had on it, but I ended up having one of the best experiences I’ve had, so far

BAD PEOPLE MAKE GOOD TV IN LIFETIME’S NEW SCRIPTED SERIES UNREAL PREMIERING JUNE 1

STARRING SHIRI APPLEBY AND CONSTANCE ZIMMER Drama from Marti Noxon, Sarah Gertrude Shapiro and A+E Studios™ Makes World Premiere at SXSW Today

AUSTIN, TX – March 16, 2015 – Lifetime’s highly-anticipated scripted series UnREAL (#UnREALTV), starring Shiri Appleby (Girls) and Constance Zimmer (House of Cards, Entourage), will premiere Monday, June 1, at 10pm ET/PT. This provocative drama, that gives a fictitious behindthescenes glimpse into the chaos surrounding the production of a dating competition program, makes its world premiere today at SXSW at 3:30pm CT in the Vimeo theater in the Austin Convention Center. UnREAL was created by Marti Noxon (Girlfriends Guide to Divorce, Mad Men, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro. It was inspired by Shapiro’s 2013 SXSW awardwinning independent short film Sequin Raze.

Set against the backdrop of the hit dating competition show Everlasting, UnREAL is led by flawed heroine Rachel Goldberg (Appleby), a young producer whose sole job is to manipulate her relationships with, and among, the contestants to get the vital dramatic and outrageous footage that the program’s dispassionate executive producer, Quinn King (Zimmer), demands. What ensues is an eye-opening look at what happens in the outrageous world of unscripted television, where being a contestant can be vicious and being a producer a whole other reality.

UnREAL also stars Craig Bierko (Damages) as Everlasting’s eccentric creator, Chet; and Freddie Stroma (Pitch Perfect) as the dating show’s handsome and intelligent suitor, Adam Cromwell. Josh Kelly (One Life to Live) plays Jeremy, a cameraman who is Rachel’s exboyfriend, while Siobhan Williams (Black Box) is Lizzie, Jeremy’s current fiancĂ©e and onset makeup artist. Everlasting’s contestants include Grace, portrayed by Nathalie Kelley (The Fast and the Furious), who immediately wins Adam’s heart; Anna, played by Johanna Braddy (Shameless), who is classy and shrewd, with her eye on the prize; Faith, a sensitive and vulnerable tomboy from the South portrayed by Breeda Wool (Betas); and Mary, played by Ashley Scott (Jericho), a gorgeous single mom who has been unlucky in love. Arielle Kebbel (The Vampire Diaries) will guest star as Britney, a contestant who has no filter and isn’t on Everlasting to make any friends.

UnREAL is produced by A+E Studios. Noxon executive produces while Shapiro serves as supervising producer. Sally DeSipio (Do Over) and Robert M. Sertner (Revenge) executive produce and Stacy Rukeyser (Twisted) co-executive produces. UnREAL is the first scripted series fully produced and distributed by A+E Studios. A+E Networks will handle global sales for UnREAL. Ten episodes have been ordered.

  • 08:59 - Eye Candy - Season 1 Post Mortem
TVLine took our burning questions to Eye Candy executive producer Christian Taylor, who was more than happy to explain Lindy’s motivations — and offer up a major hint at what a second season would have in store for fans.
    Ready? Let’s do this…

TVLINE | In R.L. Stine’s book, the killer is one of Lindy’s roommates. Why didn’t you follow that in the show and make it Sophia?
The book was really more of a [starting point] for us, and after I developed the story, I departed from the book and kind of reinvented a lot of it. When I started developing the show with the writers, anybody could have been the killer, so we just had to decide what would be the most interesting or most extreme option.

TVLINE | And of course it was the guy with the accent.
[Laughs] Yes! We just really wanted to surprise people.

TVLINE | I’m glad Lindy and Tommy got some closure with that chat they had online. In your own words, where does that relationship stand now?
They’re definitely still at odds. There’s an olive branch that’s been extended to him, and it’s one of my favorite scenes when he says, “I’m sorry” to her at the end. It’s really moving. I’m excited to explore their relationship if we get a second season. Will they ever get together? I don’t know.

TVLINE | Well, you did give fans a little payoff with that make-out scene at the Airbnb.
You know, the fans really wanted them to kiss, so I gave them a kiss — even if it wasn’t a real kiss.

TVLINE | I don’t know, it was a pretty good kiss.
You know what’s funny? I think they kiss a lot better than Jake and Lindy kiss, which was really lucky. You never know what the chemistry is going to be like when you’re casting, but Casey [Diedrick] is great and Victoria [Justice] is lovely. It all worked.

E! News has learned that Allen is set to guest star on an upcoming episode of ABC Family's Young & Hungry.

Allen will show up on the comedy series during its upcoming season two as Tyler, a hot (duh!), young hipster drummer who hits on Gabi (series' star Emily Osment). Do you think Allen's Tyler will have what it takes to score a date with the young aspire chef ?

There will be a new Newsreel each day, and as news is added we will update the post and and push it back to the top of the site so that you can see that new items have been added. A tweet of the item will also be sent to our @SpoilerTV account.

  6. I hope the ratings actually are better this year! And only 10weeksnot to screw up :D ratings would probably drop more if there were 22episodes per season.

  7. Does anyone know when MTV usually announce the pick ups for next season ? I'd love to have Eye Candy season 2. I know it probably won't happen, but I'd like to know when I'll be fixed about this.

  8. Not entirely sure how/when MTV do theirs.

The latest will be April 21st when they have their upfront presentation. However I suspect we'll know either way before that date.

  9. That Vincent D'Onofrio interview was precious! He's the prefect Kingpin and I can NOT wait to see him in Daredevil. (I think casting-wise he was indeed the biggest draw for me)

The Beauty and the Beast cast is shaping up pretty nicely, I have to say... Still not 100% on board with Disney re-imagining their animation classic with live action versions though...
