The Returned, “Victor,” was directed by Charles Martin with the teleplay by Regina Corrado. Martin also directed last week’s episode and Corrado’s impressive credits include Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy, and The Strain. There seem to be as many new secrets as there are answers. The performances continue to be excellent, especially from Mat Vairo (Simon), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Rowan), and Kevin Alejandro (Tommy) this week.
Peter (Jeremy Sisto) is revealed to have a surprise connection to one of the returned. He continues to provide support where he can. It seems the returned may also share some other unusual traits besides voracious eating. The show becomes quite philosophical about death. Of course, that’s a huge subject and one that isn’t likely to be exhausted any time soon.
Here are a few dialogue teasers from the episode:
“You don’t know anything. You’re still 25.”
“Your small town bad cop is embarrassing.”
“How do you organize a life with no death to define it.”
“I don’t know how to help you.”
“I’m an animal in a cage to you.”
“The finality’s for a reason.”
This was another solid effort. There is one particularly gruesome scene right near the beginning of the episode. Don’t forget to tune in to A&E March 30 at 10/9c.
