The Musketeers - Trial and Punishment - Advance Preview + Dialogue Teasers

© BBC Pictures

The events that transpired last week have left the characters split up, with individuals facing an uncertain future or undertaking a huge risk. Circumstances have never looked worse for our heroes, yet as d’Artagnan said to Constance before he was dragged away from her cell window “never give up hope.” No matter how bad things get, it would be unwise to forget those words, a Musketeer never would after all.

Porthos’ lone-wolf mission to lure Vargas to France is guaranteed to please his fans. Despite having a central arc this year it did feel as though it had only been bubbling in the background until these last few episodes. Now that he has worked through the mystery of his past he seems to be in a better place mentally, much like Aramis was after the events of Emilie. He may not be aware of the current dire straits the others are in back in Paris, but you can rest assured that he is going to face whatever the Spanish spy-master throws at him in order to bring down Rochefort and save them.

It quickly becomes apparent that Treville was speaking the truth about why he picked him to be a Musketeer when you see how resourceful he is this week. It wasn’t favouritism, but his skills as a soldier and his bravery in the face of battle that made him stand out above the others. This is why he wears the pauldron, and why the Captain is proud of him. There is a very touching moment near the end of the episode between the two of them that completes Porthos’ arc in a very satisfying manner.

The remaining group band together to concentrate on saving the captured characters, it won’t be as straightforward as last week’s whisking the Queen away to safety however. Rochefort has far more guards in place for a start, and then there’s the swiftness with which he is pushing his plans forwards. Marc Warren has been superb villain thus far, smooth talking his way around everyone at court and disposing of anyone who doesn’t conform to his way of thinking. He knows exactly when and how to feed information to Louis, applying the pressure in order to manipulate him into getting exactly what he wants.

Ryan Gage is simply wonderful in their scenes this week as the broken King who feels like he has lost everything. As is Alexandra Dowling’s Queen Anne, whose strength, poise and spirit is never completely shattered, no matter how hard the Comte persists in trying.

As for how Aramis manages to escapes his torturous demise, well that may come as a bit of a surprise. It certainly does to him anyway. Sometimes god does work in mysterious ways it seems...or, it could just be that someone has a particular talent that come in handy at times like this. The same could be said for Constance’s rescue too, which is carried out with minimum fuss and maximum heroic finesse by her champion d’Artagnan and his buddies, Athos and Treville.

This week's hangman has been solved, and the new teasers have been added below, and I have also filled in the missing teaser as a bonus. I don't confirm who says the new ones, but who do you see saying them?

Some of the G+ crew are missing you all and the wishing they could help out with the hangman & teasers this week. So they have been told part of the hangman, and have then given me some pictures to pass on to you which they hope will help you solve it.
The first set of clues they have for you have been solved. Bad food & rain

They have been given a further hint that will help solve one of the sentences in the hangman, here are the photos that they think will help you.
The second set of clues have been solved. Cockney rhyming slang will solve one of the sentences.

The arraigned soldier adopts a method of attack as part of his defence plea when he is put in the dock. Someone isn't overzealous apropos England. “It rains a great deal” they quip, before struggling to find the words to describe just how bad the food is. It Captain Cooks like several several roles have a change of uncle Bob next donkey's ear.

J and Q won the first poll and have been added
Y and V won the second poll and have been added
U won the third poll and has been added
W won the fourth poll and has been added
G won the fifth poll and has been added
M won the sixth poll and has been added along with a bonus letter, K

Below are a few dialogue teasers to see you through until then, I will fill in any correct guesses on who said what later in the week. Don't forget to come back to vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.

“I’ll report to the garrison later” Athos to Treville

“We have no reason in the world left to trust each other, but who else can we trust?” Milady to Athos

“You just won’t die, will you” d'Artagnan to Aramis

“It’s not the man we have to destroy, it’s his lies” Constance to the Musketeers

“You’ll die for this” Rochefort to Treville

“I understand that God is with us now, in this room. We will all be judged for what is in our hearts” Aramis to Rochefort

“This is cold blooded murder” Treville to Rochefort

“What is the price for betraying those you should have held most dear?” Anne to Marguerite

“If this is to be my end I would rather be shot than stabbed” Louis to Porthos

“You’re a fine shot for a lowly servant Monsieur, but how long do you think you can hold out?” Vargas to Porthos

“You shouldn’t treat death so lightly” Aramis to Milady

"Look into my eyes, tell me I am guilty"

“I understand that God is with us now, in this room. We will all be judged for what is in our hearts”

If that is Aramis to Anne then I am 1) gutted and 2) positive that Annamis will end :(

  5. i know you can say nothing about finale, but i wanna know is that picture anne king and baby is reunion. and will be annamis scenes in finale, because i close to stop watching this show.

    ReplyDelete
  6. King who feels like he has lost everything. I bet in the end he gets everything back but aramis gonna live without his son and anne. Sometimes love not win, duty is important ..

I just wish that anne be happy with aramis and their son but it not happens, because she queen and cant love, for her are different rules. sad

    ReplyDelete
  7. Love LOVE that Porthos' bit sounds epic!
I reckon Milady will save Aramis using her powers of manipulation.

I haven't seen Ep 9 yet (you know, cos I only live in the land of the BBC) but I can't resist a hangman. And I have zero issues with spoilers cos its never how it is in my head anyway. Lol.

  8. hey sandi. thanks for the preview, one question (i don't know if you can answer that) : is aramis beeing tortured or somehow physically mistreated??! i am no native speaker i just picked up on the "getting out of a torturous demise"...maybe that is just a phrase though :). oh and one last question: where you generally happy with the episode and the setting up for next season? simple yes or no is allowed is it:)?

    ReplyDelete
  9. You're welcome annamisxx. There's a few twists and turns in the episode, it's a great final episode.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm afraid none of those are correct, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ah! You're here! I was just wondering whether ANYONE was gonna actually be here to do the hangman this week or whether it would remain unsolved until the end of time, as I think most of the usual clue crew has fled to G+. But I guess now I can lie back and let you do all the work! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  12. The Porthos payoff isn't a massive part of the episode (as in it doesn't take up a large chunk of it), but I personally think that it is very important. I feel that it is the final act of his arc, so to speak, as it shows us what Treville saw in him when he was in the infantry. I like that it didn't just end with his episode, but has continued to the finale in this way.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Lol, I'm glad you two are here too. It could be a bit of a tricky one, the last couple were far too easy and this is the finale after all. There's a few more lines of dialogue for when it gets cracked though :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi sam, welcome to the site! Always great to see new fans :)

There was always the threat of torture to anyone accused of treason back then, especially before being executed. It was quite common to whip a prisoner, stretch them on the rack or find some other way to make them beg for death before they actually killed them. Aramis doesn't have much to look forward to once he is arrested unfortunately!

I really enjoyed the finale. Brilliant performances from all involved, superb script with a few twists and turns, lovely character payoff and a few things to speculate about over the hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anne is very happy at the end of the episode :)

  16. Sandi I just want to say thank you for taking the time to write these advanced preview's each week for us fans to enjoy. It was fun! Looking forward to season 3. The ending for episode 9 was crazy so I'm sure the finale will be one hell of a ride. I do have one question for you, does it end as a cliffhanger or will each storyline be resolved by the end?

"What is the price for betraying those you should have held most dear?” Rochefort to Aramis. This is probably about Marguerite.

“We have no reason in the world left to trust each other, but who else can we trust?” if it is not Milady to Athos then maybe it could be Aramis to Anne ? He did betray her and im sure she won't be able to trust him like she did before.

    ReplyDelete
  17. OMG yes, you only have to read what they did to Guy Fawkes and Gunpowder Plot conspirators to know how awful it was... :-(

Sandi, thanks for the preview and DT :) I can't resist popping in here now and then and there's almost less chance of major spoilers than on Twitter etc at the moment lol! I also know from experience it never turns out the way I imagined it from what I might or might not have seen or read :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. You're welcome Jagoda, I'm glad you enjoyed them. I love speculating and chatting with other fans about the show so I'm happy that we've got such a friendly group here that get on come up with such great ideas.

This episode is just as much of a ride as the first half of the finale was, have emergency cake and wine on stand by is my advice! lol. Hmm, as for your question, I'd say that there is a bit of both going on there really. Many things get resolved, some seem like they get resolved, and yet others are obviously a set up, or 'to be continued', for next year.

One of those quotes is right :)

  19. The lack of Milady in the description worries me.

  20. Thank you Sandi you and your hardwork are very appreciated! I'm so glad I found this site you all are so wonderful it makes my fan girl heart smile :-) I have an over abundance of patients and paperwork this morning but let me see if I can get a few in.......
"We have no reason in the world to trust each other, but who else can we trust." This is either Milady to Aramis or Marguerite to Aramis. I feel one of them will rescue him and for some reason I feel the Cardinal will reach out from the grave and have a part in either his demise or rescue.
"You just won't die will you." Rochefort to Aramis
"It's not the man we have to destroy it's his lies" Treville to the other Muskies...Athos and D'Art
"You'll die for this" Aramis to Rochefort
"I understand that God is with us now in this room...I think you have already said during Aramis' trial but am not sure who would say it....the person who will be conducting the trail.
"This is cold blooded murder" This one I think is about Constance I just don't know who is saying it!!
"What is the price for betraying those you should have held most dear" Rochefort to Marguerite or Rochefort to the King
"If this is to be my end I would rather be shot then stabbed" Porthos to the Spy Master or the Spy Master to Porthos
"Your a fine shot for a lowly servant Monsieur, but how long do you think you can hold out" Porthos to the Spy Master or the Spy Master to Porthos
"You shouldn't treat death so lightly" Rochefort to Aramis
"Ill report to the Garrison later" D'Art to Treville

    ReplyDelete
  21. I still want to be optimistic but yeah, where's Milady?!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes, that's a very good example of what they did to anyone who committed treason. The torture chamber at the Tower of London was almost as notorious as the Spanish Inquisition in its day! :(

You're welcome Liz! I know what it's like trying to stay away :( You're probably OK on this page for a while, but I think spoilers from the last episode will start to appear at some point. It has been eerily quiet since the episode aired though tbh, the chatter is down a huge amount after the episode aired, lol. I think everyone is missing you guys Xx

    ReplyDelete
  23. "we have no reason left to trust..." - Milady to Athos?

    ReplyDelete
  24. If only you could tell us why she is so happy......;-) Really loving the Queen and Alexander Dowling can't wait to see this episode!

    ReplyDelete
  25. She was the main focus of my last preview, which is one of the reasons why I haven't said a lot about her this week. She is in there somewhere though.... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks, and yes As I've found from other forums it's much more fun when you can discuss it together. This is a very weird situation, not one I've come across before. I mean, even today's Radio Times has review and episode summary for Ep 10 so unless I slide under a rock for the next week and a bit, it's impossible not to see some details!! Anyway, be good when we can all dive into discussions again :))

    ReplyDelete
  27. Is it the who can we trust quote....Aramis to Anne?

    ReplyDelete
  28. You're welcome Angela, I'm glad this site has so many wonderful fans too :)

You have one correct and a few speakers or spoken to right.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I will put the correct ones up when I do the first update on the hangman. I want to leave it open for others to have a guess at them for a while first though before I confirm which are right/wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I can't wait for you all to see both eps so we can discuss them as well...I really miss all of you and reading your thoughts!

    ReplyDelete
  31. If you thought Ali was amazing in episode 9, be prepared for her to blow your mind in this one. She is just...well I don't have words for how she delivers some of her lines tbh! I could watch her and Marc Warren on screen all day long, they are just brilliant :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks Sandi! Sorry I'm jumping ahead of myself :-D

    ReplyDelete
  33. No worries, I imagine it's probably torture wanting to know. Sorry! Xx

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh now you just have me even more excited to see it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. You're welcome Gen :)

You have two correct and a few speakers/spoken to correct.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ha. Thanks for that.

I guess it just seems easy to kill her off now that she's been marginally redeemed, but Maimie's take on the character is so fantastic and I think she could still go interesting places.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Also, I missed the meat of your hint the first time around. Now this will drive me crazy.

How about the "I'd rather be shot than stabbed line" is said by Milady to Catherine?

    ReplyDelete
  38. You're welcome Federica! These seem to be hard this week, I swear it wasn't intentional :( lol

You have one correct and few speakers/spoken to right.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "There is a very touching moment near the end of the episode between the two of them that completes Porthos’ arc in a very satisfying manner."

And with this single sentence, you have made me a very happy woman, Sandi. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Agreed, I have really enjoyed her character this year. From the first moment we saw her examining the kidnapped men's trinkets and discovering Louis' ring, she has been a force to be reckoned with. She's had a tough life, and although I can't condone all she has done to survive - murdering someone for a dress, could she not just have left the poor woman tied up? lol - she has used her street smarts to stay alive.

Maimie has done a fantastic job portraying her fragile side too this year, the depth of her character has been great to see. I too would also love to see what else she has to offer in the role.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Only one? :( it's not my week!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't know Frederica I take Sandi's cryptic comment! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm happy that you have de-lurked and joined in with our chat. I write these previews in order to meet fellow fans and speculate/discuss my favourite shows :)

Rochefort seems to hate just about everybody now, which I personally put down to the fact that Vargas broke him while he was a prisoner in Spain. The physical scars on his body - as we saw in the first episode - must be nothing to the mental ones in his head. We now know that the Cardinal also thought that he was already unstable before he was captured, so it's no surprise that he has become the insane creature that he has. I think that he is a great villain, someone who is intelligent , manipulative and downright evil. Yet also multifaceted and understandable in their motives.

One of those quotes is correct.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sandi, is there any Portamis in this episode???
I know you can't tell but I will ask anyway - are they going to torture Aramis?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hmm, I'm not necessarily cryptic with that comment. Just wanted fans of Anne to know that she is not unhappy with her lot at the end of the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi drumla, welcome to the site! :)

There isn't really a great deal of the two characters, and none of them alone in a scene together I'm afraid, but they do share a couple of very brief moments. It is quite a fast paced episode though.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I just noticed I didn't finish typing my sentence lol! Thanks Sandi really all we can do is wait all the spoilers and pictures in the world can't truly show or tell us what is going on and how it will all play out.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It does not really matter who Anne is happy with- Louis or Aramis.
The main point is that she's happy and she deserves some happiness after the year she has had. First, she has a baby that her husband is not the father to and that she needs that secret this dangerous secret or risk losing her life and her sons.
Second, She had to put up with Louis and Milady throwing their affair in front of her face and humiliating her front of the royal court and not mention it started when her son was dying.
Third and last, Rochefort- and yes I already know what has happen in episode 9 as I've seen nearly every spoiler post on the web but I'll still watch the show on Friday on BBC 1 now back to Rochefort , now that Anne knows about his twisted obsession with her and that his plan is create a wedge between the royal has work it makes me wonder will Louis ever discover Rochefort true intentions and that will he try to respect his wife more or dare i say love his wife. I know the royal marriages were not based on love but i feel that Louis does have some feelings for Anne but does not know how to express them.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well put Gemma. She's one hell of a year, and it's a miracle that the country hasn't fallen apart while the royal family has been through this gigantic mess that they are in!

    ReplyDelete
  50. That's true I guess. I just think that Ali has done such an incredible job this year with her character, and I am looking forward to seeing what next season holds for her too. Perhaps I shouldn't say it, but I get a little fed up of negative comments about the compelling story arc that she is going through, and I'm sure will continue to go through, for the rest of the series. Anne is a strong woman, a fantastic mother and a great queen imo.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am so worried. I don't like how the summary made it sound like everyone is going to save Constance, but none of our Musketeers will help Aramis. They must be so angry with him...

I'm horrible with predictions so I will leave it to all of you to come up with who said what to whom and vice versa.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I could not agree more Anne is a strong, independent and brave character, I feel that she been judge a lot this season due to her being Spanish and I feel that's not right , she did not have to go a risk her life by going to Emile's camp to try negotiate with Emile but she got it back thrown in her face for being Spanish.
For you can know is that Anne could easily wrote to her brother the king of Spain and to her uncle The Holy Roman Emperor to tell them to declare war on France for all what Louis has done to her this year, she could have bitter about Milady but she was not . It does show that Anne is not that person that she knows her duty.

    ReplyDelete
  53. every episode my love for the queen grows she a great character

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mmm maybe that shot you suggested should accompany me for the ride instead, haha. I'm glad to hear that many things do get resolved. Everything in episode 9 was pretty much a set up, I wonder what the set up would be in the finale. I was thinking it might have something to do with the King setting up Anne (being manipulated by Rochefort of course) somehow. The King does look a bit suspicious in that promo pic with her and the Dauphin. I'll just have to wait and see...

    ReplyDelete
  55. I agree -- and I always like a show that takes the time to properly develop and complicate the female characters. I will take your comment as a positive sign, with the understanding that you can't tell me one way or the other.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yay! Made my day, she really does deserve to be happy. Now that we know about Anne, can you tell us about Aramis? Will he be a little bit happy at least ? He has been through a lot as well like not being able to see his son, and being charged for treason because of his affair with Anne.

“We have no reason in the world left to trust each other, but who else can we trust?” Milady to Athos
“You just won’t die, will you” - Rochefort to Aramis
“It’s not the man we have to destroy, it’s his lies” - Athos to the Musketeers
“You’ll die for this” - Rochefort to Constance
“I understand that God is with us now, in this room. We will all be judged for what is in our hearts” - Rochefort to Aramis
“What is the price for betraying those you should have held most dear?” - Rochefort to Aramis or Marguerite
“If this is to be my end I would rather be shot than stabbed” Rochefort to the Musketeers
“You shouldn’t treat death so lightly” - Rochefort to Aramis or Constance

Thank you Sandi for this preview! I cannot wait to see this :) And may I ask if there will be any moment between Aramis and Anne?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Either Marguerite or Milady will save Aramis. He should be saved before the musketeers save Constance because it wouldn't make sense for the others to leave him there. Tho it is Aramis's mess, I'm sure they do not want to see him dead!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Eh, Porthos hugged him and then talked him through it. They all still love him, even if they're frustrated. But ultimately Rochefort is the villain here, and I doubt any of them are going to forget that and let Aramis hang. But I do agree with Jagoda that he'll probably be saved by someone unlikely -- like Milady.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hi Sandi,

Out of curiosity, do you know which scenes/lines were removed from the American version that will be in the UK episode? I'm wondering if I should watch the longer cut as well, since it seems like BBCA often cuts small character development moments.

    ReplyDelete
  61. She has such a fine line to walk by being Spanish, and this season has highlighted that I feel. It isn't an easy time for her at all, next to no-one trusts her, or even likes her, due to her heritage. She is watched constantly and spied on due to the fact that she could be a spy herself - the very fact that Louis' sister is a spy against her husband, the Duke of Savoy, is enough to make her paranoid! She doesn't have a pleasant home life at all :(

    ReplyDelete
  62. I completely agree Sandi and I say that as an Annamis shipper ;-) don't know if you have read my post over in the what did you think about ep 9 poll thread but obviously I'm all about a strong female character!!

I love all of the characters and actors truly talented all of them but she has quickly become my favorite. Won't go on a big tangent/ramble like I did in that post but I totally get where you are coming from and I agree.

Even as an Annamis shipper it's not about the sweeping romance it's about the journey, struggle, growth, sacrifice and strength...where it all takes you good and bad right or wrong and who you become because of it. Which path do you choose and why.

This sounds cheesy but its because of things I have gone through in my life that make me like this ship and ship or no ship having me loving the Queen so much right now and by extension Ali and her incredible performance. I can't wait to see ep 10 and see where she goes from here.. Her journey!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have a feeling none of these are right, but I might as well try my hand at a few:

“We have no reason in the world left to trust each other, but who else can we trust?” -- Athos, about Milady, to D'Artagnan and Treville.

“You just won’t die, will you” -- Catherine to Milady

“It’s not the man we have to destroy, it’s his lies” -- Treville to D'Artagnan, Athos

“You’ll die for this” -- D'Artagnan to Rochefort

“I understand that God is with us now, in this room. We will all be judged for what is in our hearts” -- Aramis at the trial

“This is cold blooded murder” -- D'Artagnan to Rochefort about Constance

“If this is to be my end I would rather be shot than stabbed” -- Milady to Catherine

“You’re a fine shot for a lowly servant Monsieur, but how long do you think you can hold out?” -- Vargas to Porthos

    ReplyDelete
  64. It was a bit of an awkward hug. I couldn't stop laughing while watching that scene. Poor Aramis he was really scared in that scene.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Why, that is so sweet of you, giving us an extra hard one when we're practically alone...lol ;) Might we at least get an extra-early vowel then to help us along?

(And well, if we should fail, I guess we'll have a window between Friday and Saturday when everyone has finally watched episode 9 and will come back here because they're STARVING for finale spoilers...lol That should be enough motivation to crack it. But we'll give it our best shot first. ;))

    ReplyDelete
  66. That scene was beautiful from beginning to end, particularly with D'Artagnan learning from his sassmaster mentor Athos and delivering some of the best one-liners.

The hug moment was great -- because Porthos clearly wants to kill him because doing this might get Aramis killed, but his overwhelming sense of love overcomes him. And then both Treville and Athos eye-rolling over it.

Ugh, it was a good moment.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I did have a quick read through everything last night, but haven't really had a chance to reply to much yet as I wanted to get this preview up before it got any later, lol. I thought it was a great piece of writing, and i agree with you.

I'm not a shipper, I know that I do find it harder sometimes to sympathise with that side of a characters journey, but it doesn't mean that I ignore it totally. I understand the attraction between Anne and Aramis completely. It's a very romantic, longing love that is always just out of reach for them - very Romeo and Juliet.

One thing I do admire about both of the characters, and I think that they love about each other in fact, is their sense of duty and moral guidance. (Though Aramis has had a bit of a wobble there with Marguerite this year, but there are reasons behind it). I also think that they both find a lot of comfort with each other, which is something they don't allow themselves to expose to others, being the strong characters that they are.

  68. Lol, I'm sure it will be cracked in plenty of time before the episode ;)

  69. Hi Carrie, welcome to the site! The guys aren't mad at Aramis, it's just that there is someone who has the right skill set that makes them the best person to do the job :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. You're welcome Zuzana! I'm afraid that's something you will have to wait and see in the episode :)

You have one correct and a few speakers/spoken right too.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm afraid that I don't know. I don't get to see the BBCA version at all, I only hear from other fans what has been cut afterwards.

    ReplyDelete
  72. You have one correct, and one each of a speaker and spoken to right :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. I LOVE D'Artagnan's reactions haha... especially the under the breath "Aramis"

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think what's going happen is that after the trial Aramis will be removed from the area. So that when the Musketeer's go to save Constance, Aramis will not be there. while Milady will end up saving Aramis.

There are some people speculating that Aramis will become an Abbe... what you guys think? I just don't know how he will be able to remain a Musketeer.

Thank you, I am really looking forward to it!

  76. Totally agree with them finding comfort in each other; they have a deep
understanding and appreciation of each others' best qualities, often only
expressed through looks rather than words, and which Santi and Ali
    convey beautifully.

I hope Anne finds a sort of happiness at the
end of this series. She's had a tough time from being hated for being
Spanish and suspected of spying for them, to humiliated by Louis's fling
with Milady to being attacked and almost raped, and now accused of
treason. Not to say that I don't hope for more of her and Aramis in
S3. I'm a total sucker for impossible love stories and Aramis is also
suffering, 'being unable to be with the women he loves' (that's a Santi
quote from one of the TV mags this week btw ;) ) and be a father to his
child, but I am thinking as this series ends they will put the safety
and well being of their son, and duty to France, above their own
desires. It's what all parents would do. I'm glad Anne has had her
son to love through all this. That's helped her through some terrible
times and indeed the 'precious memory' of his conception and birth
    'saved' her in several ways.

    Anne is kind, courageous and strong;
an amazing character. No wonder Aramis fell for her ;) And Ali
Dowling's portrayal of her even up to Ep 9 has been wonderful. I want
to see lots more of her in S3 along with the other strong female leads
in the show. They add so much and are wonderfully refreshing, vibrant
and involved in the action in an era when women had little actual power.

I am a tad worried though...there is huge Louis shaped
spoiler in one of the TV Magazines reviews this week for Ep10 (given 5*
btw ;) ) that I think must have repercussions in S3..

    ReplyDelete
  77. I would say it is Aramis to Rochefort? These are hard teasers I have no idea! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Here's my shot

“I’ll report to the garrison later” (Aramis to Treville)

“We have no reason in the world left to trust each other, but who else can we trust?”

“You just won’t die, will you” (Catherine to Milady)

“It’s not the man we have to destroy, it’s his lies” (Athos to Treville)

“You’ll die for this” (Rochefort to Aramis)

“I understand that God is with us now, in this room. We will all be judged for what is in our hearts” (Rochefort to judges)

“This is cold blooded murder” (D'Artagnan to Rochefort)

“What is the price for betraying those you should have held most dear?” (Rochefort to the Queen)

“If this is to be my end I would rather be shot than stabbed” (Aramis to Rochefort)

“You’re a fine shot for a lowly servant Monsieur, but how long do you think you can hold out?” (Vargas to Porthos)

“You shouldn’t treat death so lightly” (Milady to Catherine)

    ReplyDelete
  79. OK, a few first unqualified guesses on the hangman after giving it a first lookover: Does the first sentence by any chance end with "as an end to the show"? And a guess for sentence 3: "Is there a ??" Anne asks.

    Anything? All wrong? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  80. I understand you Carrie, but Sandi you give me hope:). All in all I got the "non caring" vibe too. To be honest, the only aspect of this season I disagree with is the feeling that the brotherhood theme got a little bit lost on the way. Like this important friendship and the "I would do anything for you, whatever shit you get yourself into" vibe gave way to judging the others, fighting private battles as well as more focus on duty before friends- and women also became wayyy more important then friends to some characters. That was present in small moments this season and is now in the Aramis storyline. Maybe the showrunners see the friendship as a given and don't think they have to emphasize it anymore, which (for me) is not the case. I would have needed some more small and big moments to remind me of the bromance theme. Btw. Sandi, I just read your comment about Porthos and Aramis both not having much airtime in the finale? That makes me sad:(. Well I hope the little time is well used then! As you might have allready figuered out I'm an Aramis fan and don't ship anything but everyone beeing happy and the friendship between the boys beeing/staying the heart of the show. Also I agree, Rochefort is a wonderfully complex and scary villain:)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Thanks! I'm fairly new to the show honestly! poor Aramis... but yes I want it angsty! I want my cake and to eat it too! haha

    ReplyDelete
  82. Beatifully said, that is what I feel about them as well, it is just not the passion, but the common understanding, even though they were never really together but there is a strong connection, and I do not mean the baby. That is what makes everything worse! I too see them as Romeo/Juliet, as I see Milady/Athos as Catherine and Heathcliff, as Angela said. I know they will find happiness in their lives together or apart somehow, but I wish they had a chance ...

    ReplyDelete
  83. Aramis in the books did go into the Church. It is a very likely thing to happen, that he will become an Abbe especially since what has happened in the latest episode. I read an interesting prediction yesterday about him. This person suggested that if Aramis does go into the church and the King dies, he could become the next 'Cardinal Mazarin'. Mazarin was rumoured to have been Anne's lover. It makes sense and it will be quite interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  84. but that would be a big set back for the show wouldn't it? i mean only 3 of the four left? i don't see him beeing a part of the shows centarl storyline if he would become an abbe?! how could they focus on 1) musketeers 2) king and queen 3) old/ new villain 4) the aramis/church part ? It would basically mean aramis not beeing an important part of the show anymore. Also different idea about a different topic: Sandi said Anne will be very happy..what if she is pregnant again? this time with the kings child? What do you guys think?

    ReplyDelete
  85. So Aramis doesn't have much airtime in the finale? Seriously.....is this show still The Musketeers?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Just de-lurking to say how happy this makes me and to thank you for all your hard work Sandi, it is much appreciated

    ReplyDelete
  87. Very true and she did have a second child! Though for me they could easily focus on extra storylines. The shows produced on the BBC are a long hour by our standards here in Canada. Our hour shows plus the commercials (which seem endless) knock actual episode time to about 42-45 minutes.

Wasn't Aramis in the books a horrible Priest? I haven't actually read the books, though I want to!

    ReplyDelete
  88. That would be interesting! I'd rather have our Inseparables together as Musketeers though haha... I wonder if they will find a way to continue Annamis?

    ReplyDelete
  89. So there isn't a lot of Aramis in the finale?
BTW.....thanks so much Sandi for all you do for us!

    ReplyDelete
  90. oh yes, and as many allready said here: THANK YOU for all you're doing here:)

    ReplyDelete
  91. I wonder if she meant more Aramis and Porthos together screen time... not lack of them in the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Yes i think that's why she happy, because France have heir, king happy

    ReplyDelete
  93. So beautifully said. I feel the same way!!!
Do you have the links to those TV articles? I haven't read them.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I wish I can say yes that they will find a way to be together but we won't know until we watch the finale. Regardless, we know Anne will be happy by the end of the episode. This is something to look forward to!

    ReplyDelete
  95. i think is gonna be another disappointment about annamis. Just heartbreaking looks between them

    ReplyDelete
  96. she said "There isn't really a great deal of the two characters, and none of them
alone in a scene together I'm afraid, but they do share a couple of very
brief moments." sounds like it's just more of an quick plot driven episode..

    ReplyDelete
  97. with Louis, because he king of france and gets everything.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Thank you. Coming from the Buffy fandom where shipper wars (and I do mean war) got very ugly shipping is not always a good thing it can affect your enjoyment of the show. Generally in most shows I watch I don't ship so this is actually rare for me!

I remember going to a Buffy con one time where we actually had a whole panel with some of the writers where we discussed shipping and how it can affect viewer perspective, popularity of the show and even writing and character development. Quite interesting! Ah the good ole days thinking about it makes me feel old lol. Although my fan girl ways started when I was a Trekkie and would wake up hungover and eat breakfast with Klingons and occasionally a Hobbit but we won't talk about that :-D

Back on topic I do admire Aramis and Annes sense of duty, moral compass and faith. Their devotion to it even if it means sacrificing what they want or need. They both have a lot of heart and strength but are also vulnerable. And I agree I think what we admire in them is probably what they love and admire in each other which is why I think I like the ship so much. They do find comfort and an understanding with each...let down those walls a bit which makes it compelling.

You know how they are handling the progression of the Queen as a woman, mother and Queen is very admirable. And of course Ali's great portrayal makes it all come to life. Based on something personal I've had happen in my own life I was a little concerned about watching the scene at the end of ep 8 between Rochefort and Anne but it was handled beautifully and so well acted as well as seeing how Ali /the Queen handled it at the beginning of 9. I'm impressed at how this show handles and deals with certain things.

Again I rambled! Just want to say I've been apart of a lot of fandoms and fan forums and this is one of the best I've been on/been a part of. It's so fun, intelligent and respectful and that is in large part due to you! I've really enjoyed our dialogue we seem to think a lot alike. Just wish we could all watch episode 10 together that would be one hell of a party!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. :( well now I don't like it even more haha

    ReplyDelete
  100. Well it isn't easy for them to be together. I don't mind getting looks and stares between them tbh. It is better than nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I am good with those too!!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Hi Lucy, I can scan them in and upload as they aren't on line. Sandi, presume that's OK? Give me a while and I'll sort them :)

    ReplyDelete
  103. Eyy another Canadian on this site! Most of the shows we watch are American. And it really is a pain watching those ads. It's so refreshing to watch a show, like this one, without any ads or shortened minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  104. agree with about sense of duty and moral guidance but deep down in their hearts both be unhappy, anne duty to king and country don't let be free to love, aramis duty king and country dont let him be with his son. Anne and Aramis gonna lead their lives, but not be completely happy. I think they deserve be completely happy together, like Constance and d’Artagnan.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Yes....it would be an awesome party!!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Thanks Liz.....I appreciate it. Take your time!

    ReplyDelete
  107. but it getting annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Oh no now you have me worried! How can I find them?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Oh I miss their interactions so much. I remeber all those looks and silent comments between them from the first season, they were bff's and now they barely talk to each other :(

    ReplyDelete
  110. Now you guys are just making me sad :-( would love to hear more about Annes childhood and life in Spain. Maybe even meet some of her family.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I am very distraught, I have been reading the comments and I have a million thoughts running through my head now, not all happy I am afraid. I am terrified for Aramis, of course he will be saved but what he will endure from Rochefort before it happens scares me. If we consider what Rochefort himself suffered while in prison and if he tries to reciprocate, he is a sadistic vicious and vengeful man. Aramis will not survive this unharmed, he is already an emotional wrack. I am glad the Queen would be happy and reunited with her son, but the King ... it's getting tiresome ... After all they have been through will it just go back to same old theme? Really? I hope that Marguerite is gone for good, please, I want Milady to save Aramis, not her, I want no good deed coming from her. But it might just be her so she will face her demise on Rochefort's hands for helping Aramis, which of course on top of it all the guy will be devasted by guilt. It is a huge emotional baggage for Santiago to carry, I bet he is loving it, who wouldn't? He is gone through a rollercoaster!Constance will be saved by the love of her liffe and they will be together! Porthos had closure and is at peace, All great. What about Milady and Athos? There is nothing about them on the review, will she leave?

I will give it a try at the dialogue teasers:
I'll report to ... Treville to Louis
    We have no reason ...
    You just won't die ...
It's not the man ... Athos to D'Artagnan
You will die for this ... Rochefort to Marguerite (pls)
I understand that God ... Aramis to Rochefort
This is cold blooded... Vargas to Porthos
What is the price ... Louis to Anne
If this is to be my end ... Rochefort to the musketeers
    You are a fine...
    You should not treat...

    ReplyDelete
  112. Sandi has mentioned before that if you were to share any spoilers just make sure you indicate that it is a spoiler first.

    .
    Like this.

I'm curious to see what the spoiler is all about. :)

    ReplyDelete
  113. I agree, I don't think that's gonna happen (Aramis becoming a priest). I also don't think a second baby is gonna happen, though - a) they can't repeat the same storyline, b) with the strain on her relationship with the King - when would they actually have the time or inclination to actually get together? I assume she's probably mostly happy that (I hope) Rochefort is out of the way, the King didn't kill her (and maybe even trusts her again) and they didn't take her baby away. Just a guess, but I don't think they could actually squeeze any more into that episode. Though I'll stand corrected if they did! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  114. If it's been printed then I guess it will be making the rounds anyway, lol. All I ask is that fans be careful when sharing any images on Twitter/Tumblr/etc. Especially at the moment with the scheduling nightmare. So many people are desperate not too be spoiled, and they are having a hard time of it, so please just mark anything you post loud and clear :)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Hmm.... Right skill set to sever a rope with a pistol. Have we seen the end of Catherine?? Or am I way outside the box here?

    ReplyDelete
  116. I was (am) a big Buffy fan too, but had problems with the fandom too due to the wars that went on :( I started out on the sister site to this one, which was a LOST based one, which had its share of shipper wars too, that used to be a bit of a nightmare, lol. I think a part of what makes this show's fans work well is there is no cross over between the ships, though it did look as though it could have gone that way with Milady/d'Artagnan/Athos at the very start of last year.

I wish we were all together for the last episodes too, it's a it of a juggling act at present :( The UK guys are looking forward to coming back on the 27th though...I hear they may bring cake with them ;)

    ReplyDelete
  117. Thank you Cait! Good to meet you, I'm glad that you are enjoying the site :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. You're welcome Lucy :)

There's plenty of Aramis in the finale, just not much Portamis. We did get some nice bits in the last episode though.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I love the two of them together too, they had some lovely bits in the last two episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  120. We miss them so much it not same without them am so happy there are no ship wars in this show thank god for that it not good

    ReplyDelete
  121. Porthos and Aramis are both in the finale quite a lot, but Portamis - their individual relationship away from the main group - isn't.

I'm a brotherhood fan too. I like to see them all together out on an adventure, I do feel that there has been a bit too much romance in this tail end of the season at times. Whereas the start had next to none, which has made it feel a tad unbalanced perhaps.

    ReplyDelete
  122. “We have no reason in the world left to trust each other, but who else can we trust?”

    Maybe Louis to Anne?

    ReplyDelete

  125. OK here;s what I've done to make sure no one sees them unless they want to.

Put this link into your browser:

    http://s2.photobucket.com/user/FredericaM/library/Musketeers

Type in password 'OneForAll' (no spaces) when prompted

You should be able to see scans of the three articles. Click on an image, then click on icon to enlarge if you need to although this may take a while to load.

The TV Times one has what I understand to be a spoiler as I wasn't sure Louis would actually be told this info but it seems from the article he is. And perhaps the photo of him (one of the promos here) shows his reaction, or perhaps not - the magazine may just have chosen it anyway :)

Let me know if you have any problems, it works when I try OK :)

You have one correct and a speaker right.

  134. I feel for you, all the good hangman people are not around. I am a disaster at these, but I am supportive! You can do it, yes you can! :)

    ReplyDelete
  135. The teasers are hard, I wanted to write Rochefort in at least 5 of them, but is too many. I will try again later, cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  136. OK not sure what's going on with the password but I've made it temporarily public so just go to link again and you should be able to see articles :) Can you confirm if working , thx !

  138. PS as Sandi says be careful sharing elsewhere though just in case, although these magazines are readily available all over the UK today :)

    ReplyDelete
  139. LOL....yes, it helped my Annamis headache!!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Yes I know what you mean :)

    ReplyDelete
  141. It is working :) Thank you so much Liz. I just have to say I'm very shocked at what I just read! I did not expect any of this to be revealed to the King. Right now, I do not know how the Queen will be happy in the end. Unless Rochefort kills the King...

    ReplyDelete
  142. It certainly adds to the tension and drama, and wondering how things will lead into S3...

    ReplyDelete
  143. you will die for this " Anne to rochefort
what is the price for betraying those you should have held dear to Constance to marguerite

    ReplyDelete
  144. Cheers Liz! It's easy to avoid them in print form, but harder to do when they appear in your twitter stream is all, lol. Thanks for uploading :)

    ReplyDelete
  145. I can answer that...there was barely anything removed. I have watched the TV version and the Amazon version and maybe some dialogue with lemay but nothing of imporotance

    ReplyDelete
  146. I do not know if I am right but I am thinking it is Milady

    ReplyDelete
  147. Marguerite does not have the skills, but Milady does.

    ReplyDelete
  148. turns out she ment together scenes after all ..so you can like it again :D

    ReplyDelete
  149. I watched the Amazon version, too, but I assumed it was the American version.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I may have already guessed some of these but......"I'll report to the Garrison later Aramis to Treville

"You just won't die will you." Rochefort to Aramis

"It's not the man we have to destroy its his lies" Milady to the Musketeers

"You'll die for this" Rochefort to Anne

"This is cold blooded murder" Anne to Rochefort

"What is the price for betraying those you should have held most dear" Anne to Marguerite

"If this is to be my end id rather be shot then stabbed" Rochefort to the Muskies

    ReplyDelete
  151. Portho's advice was really good and I'm glad Aramis listened to him. I'm a bit scared for Anamis tho. The King finding out only makes their situation much worse.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I am horrible at this probably because I am a horrible speller but since all those good at the hangman are not here I will try my best

    ReplyDelete
  153. No the Amazon version is what they see on the BBC

    ReplyDelete
  154. I agree about Milady saving him
Now I just wonder what part Catherine has in all of this, because you know she is obsessed with killing Milady

    ReplyDelete
  155. Hi Liz, I'd love to see these but the link isn't working?

    ReplyDelete
  156. Ah, okay -- good to know. Thanks.

  163. hi,
i wasn't able to watch the previous episode because BBC One didn't show it last week. But i have a question and i would love if someone answers me! i love all the characters and i love this series. But my favorite couple would definitely Aramis and Queen Anne. I read in a review that Queen Anne felt betrayed by Aramis when she discovered his relationship with Marguerite. Is that true? did she lose her faith in him like i read? and were there any epic scenes between them? I just can't wait till Friday to know!

    ReplyDelete
  164. Hey Sandi,

You cannot imagine how diligently I am working this week, as if, it will make episode 10 come sooner.... somehow, looking up towards this coming Saturday on BBC America to watch The Musketeers finale is making my week so much better. Have a wonderful, happy, joyous and full of light day! Thanks for keeping this forum so fun... you are AWESOME....

    Sandy

  165. Hey Liz, I didn't - it is back to password protected and I can't seem to find the password in this thread? Anyway, I'm not concerned - I can watch the episode on Sunday here in Ireland, so I'm happy to await a surprise or two!!! Thanks for uploading though, this thread certainly builds anticipation :)

    ReplyDelete
  166. OK, sorry the password thingy not working well, Have just reset it to public for you! :)) Try now :)

  167. If it true then that annoys me. I thought we covered the queen knowing about Marguerite during 'Through a Glass Aramisly' when Marg went to drape herself around him. I had the queen down as someone with her eyes and ears open and if Milady knew and she didn't...I mean, come on, they were together in her sons rooms!?
The Queen has been and will no doubt continue to be awesome but not having her know...just pile more and more on Aramis, shall we writers? The guy messed up, give him a break now, eh?
So disappointed to read there isn't Portamis in the final ep. Bah.

    ReplyDelete
  168. No letters so normally I go daft but I have a feeling its going to be odd round here with folks missing so I'm being odd and going straight in there with no singing, dancing or goats...

"The preceding episode marked a change as Milady is back to her ? best/ways..."

I mean, Milady could be Aramis but something tells me he's far from his best....However this is a wild stab in the dar anyway. Lol

I hope he gets the chance to explain why he slept with her to Anne!

  171. Also the second sentence, "Firstly God's involvement becomes serious." ? I mean cos it looks that way from the quotes and pictures...

  172. 'Through a Glass Aramisly' , love it :D I took it that she realised Marg was attracted to Aramis (what woman with a pulse isn't?) and maybe even some flirting between them but that someone she trusted, one of her own ladies, was sleeping with him...no. If she had I'd have thought we'd have seen her feeling betrayed by both of them before this?

  173. thanks for the preview! i'm sorry for being obnoxious, but could i ask just how much annamis we should expect? because it seems likely that most of us won't watch this episode for weeks and the wait and anticipation might kill me!

  174. This whole thing between Aramis and Anne makes me twitch. I see they have chemistry but it should just never have been. He's introduced as a lothario and yet within one series, he's pinned down to the Queen. So each time he has any kind of a relationship with another woman, its betrayal to the Queen. He can't move on. He can't be with his son...way to pile on the crappiness.

  175. maybe that reson end of annamis

  176. I hear you, it's agony for them and us watching and but that's what makes it compulsive, for me anyway. All the characters are flawed and 3D not 2D. I want to see where the writers go with it now after this crisis ;))

  177. he forgive Anne or just pretend that is lie , as you see in photo they happy. Anne be happy that her secret is safe and live her life with idiot husband, never don't talking with aramis

    ReplyDelete
  178. she trapped in her Queen life, i don't now how she be happy. Maybe Anne be happy for Constance, because she wants be free like her. Aramis always be in the palace and recall her about love and things she cant have

  179. SPOILERS ahead for those who have not seen the episode.

In the last scene Rochefort confronts Anne and tells her that she is being accused of poisoning her husband while also being unfaithful and deceitful. Rochefort has no proof of her having an affair and Anne then tells him that it will be her word against his because he has no evidence. He then tells Anne that Aramis has been sleeping with Marguerite. At that point Anne felt defeated and betrayed by Aramis because Rochefort has proof now to testify against them about their affair. This is why she looked at him with a look of hurt and betrayal right after Rochefort said it to her. In next weeks episode we see that Marguerite does testify against Aramis while also claiming that the Dauphin is his. I don't think she was hurt or betrayed because of him sleeping with someone other than her. She might've been a little hurt as any girl would if they find out that the one they love has been sleeping with another but knowing Anne she would've been understanding of the situation.

  184. I agree Liz, yes is painful to watch and it shouldn't have happened but it did and now we are addicted to them for better or worse. I wished I was not, but I am. It would be better if I could invest more with the other couples and I try but Annamis pulls me back in everytime. I wish the writers would just put us out of our misery, instead they keep feeding our obsession with tortured glances and secret sighs, cruel people! And then we get delusional and we still dream is possible, maybe in the future. It is good Drama and not for the feeble hearts I gather. But the hardder the task the bigger the reward right!?!? Please, please ...pretty please.

  185. Yep, I thought that was a bit obvious then too, Anne is stupid after all. It isn't a scandal anyway, the idea of courtly love and affairs started at French court, it was riddled with it. Part of the reason why the whole Marguerite blackmailing thing hasn't really work for me I think.

There's been quite a bit of Porthos & Aramis in the last two episodes, I can see why they have made the last one an ensemble instead. One for all, and all that jazz

  188. Hi angelab, welcome to the site! :) Sorry, but I'm going to give the same answer that I have given to others in this post on that question. You will just have to wait and see in the episode I'm afraid.

I'm sure the news will be out on Sunday as spoilers after the BBC America airing though, so you could prob find out that way. I would hope that fans are considerate and careful with how they share any info from the episode though on social media so people aren't spoiled accidentally :)

  189. Taking a crazy guess at the first three words of the hangman: The Musketeer Porthos

  190. I agree.....I hope we get that conversation.
I re-watched the cliffhanger scene and you are right. I don't think the Queen feels betrayed by Aramis. She did look shocked and hurt. I can only imagine the lies Marguerite will tell in the finale.

  192. It is agony. But also a sign of good writing. They have slowly built this story up and my only hope now is we get our pay-off.

  193. You know I still think this adultery charge such a bad play on Rochefort's side. It will always be a she said, he said even with Marguerite testimony, there will never be actual hard proof. To me it shows his weakness which is Anne. He just want revenge on her for betraying him. It would still be better to use the coup path, but his emoticons got the better of him. The Cardinal would never done like this ... If Anne is smart and has the nerve she could play him, pretend she is sorry and seduce him and thus gain control over him. It just hit me that maybe the person who will save Aramis will be the priest, the one who worked for the Cardinal ( he would not allow such maniac threatens France even from the grave), so in the end the Cardinal sabes the day, that would be a nice teĆsta and Sandi mentioned that God works in mysterious ways!
