The Musketeers - The Prodigal Father - Advance Preview + Dialogue Teasers

6 Mar 2015

Spoiler warning: As always there are teasers and hints ahead in my preview. However there are a few larger spoilers for the rest of the season that have been revealed in various newspapers & magazines promoting the show. I haven’t made any mentioned to them in my preview, but please be aware that they are likely to come up in the comment section below. Most of these have stayed under the radar so far, and there are many who do not wish to be spoiled by them. I would just ask that fans are considerate before sharing the details on social media sites so that their enjoyment of the show isn’t spoiled. Many thanks.

It feels like it’s been brewing for a long time, but the mystery surrounding Porthos and his past are finally upon us this week. Has the lengthy build up been worth the wait though? I enjoyed it, though I will admit that I’ve found that it’s one that seems to improve with each viewing rather than being a runaway hit from the off. Treville’s resolute stubbornness is one motivation that I didn’t quite appreciate the first time round, for example, but makes perfect sense when you have the whole picture.

Liam Cunningham punches all the right notes as the reclusive and undoubtedly questionable Marquis de Belgard as he welcomes his son with open arms, however. His understated, yet compelling performance compliments Howard’s down to earth solid and honest portrayal of Porthos, I have no trouble believing that they are indeed long lost father and son.

As you have no doubt already seen from the promotional photos, the Musketeers are split into the fans favourite pairings for part of the episode again this week. Aramis accompanies Porthos on his initial meeting with his father at his rather impressive country estate, which is a good thing as not all of his new found family are pleased to see him. While his friend is getting to know his old man, he starts to notice that things aren’t quite what they appear to be on the surface, and so starts to dig a little deeper into the secrets that the family are hiding. Once Aramis has discovered the basics of the operation, it’s down to Athos and d’Artagnan to team up and go undercover.

Back in Paris Constance and d’Artagnan are dealing with after effects of Bonacieux’s death, with one of them feeling more guilt over it than the other. Again, we know from the promotional photos that all will be well before too long, so the extra obstacles created for this one episode feel like a step too far for me. It seems like we have gone from next to no romance in the first half of the season, to nothing but relationship led dilemmas with all the couples in the latter half. Milady and Athos are in the same boat this week as they continue to distrust each other and part on bad terms after she seeks him out in a tavern.

This leaves us with Rochefort, who is now essentially running the country. His word is law - the king is merely his puppet who will sign whatever papers are put in front of him - and there is now only one matter left to resolve. Why is a Musketeer wearing the precious gift he gave to Anne all those years ago? He attempts to widen his investigation, but fails to learn any new information. Maybe it’s time he went directly to the source...

Congratulations, this week's hangman has been solved! There are some new Trailer Teasers added to the quotes below.

The picture clues have been solved. Torchwood: Miracle Day & Fresh Off the Boat both have the actress Constance Wu in = Constance

Rochefort attempts to send our young widow away during her period of mourning, but she rejects his offer and stays at the palace. This is extremely fortunate for both her and the queen as their futures would be very different if he had been able to get his way. He finally loses the plot entirely and will make a move that will start the beginning of the two part finale.

The Prodigal Father airs on Friday 6th March at 9pm on BBC 1 in the UK, and on March 7 at 9pm on BBC America. Below are a few dialogue teasers to see you through until then, I will fill in any correct guesses on who said what later in the week. Don't forget to come back to vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.

I'm incredibly excited about this week's episode and seeing my two favourite friendship pairings back together again.

  10. Just to say thanks for the review Sandi. I must confess I'd always thought that Constance would struggle with guilt if Bonacieux ever did die, so to a certain extent I can understand her need to find a way to deal with this, even if it does mean stepping back momentarily from D'Artagnan to get some much needed perspective. What I don't get is the need for Lemay to be thrown into the mix. I've no idea how they'll depict this, or her response to it but even the idea that another man might create a roadblock, is truly ridiculous and completely unnecessary at this point. The one thing we've always taken as an absolute, is her love for D'Artagnan. Thankfully, I suspect that someone, or something will make her see sense. I have no idea how this series ends but certainly if we do lose Constance at the end of it, the fact that they've wasted her energies and our time, on this nonsense will irritate me even more.

  11. Thank you for the review can't wait to see the episode and rochefort is still going crazy about the crucifix him confronting Anne will not end well

  12. Thanks Sandi!

“I owe you an apology, last time we saw each other my behaviour was crude and over hasty” Dartagnan to Constance?

  13. "it’s down to Athos and d’Artagnan to team up and go undercover."
Yeah, it needs to be Friday RIGHT NOW. I just love them together.

Also, I'm kind of surprised Belgard has an impressive home, because he kind of looks like a hobo in the pictures. Definitely not a put together like Rochefort or Renard or some of the other nobility we've seen on the show.

  14. My guesses

“There is a matter I must discuss with you, in private” Aramis to Porthos

  16. Thank you for this lovely preview!! : )

I've been simultaneously looking forward to and dreading this episode. I'm looking forward to it because I'm curious and want to know the true story behind Porthos' lineage, but I'm dreading it because I think Porthos is a big, cuddly teddy bear, and I don't want to see him get hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I have not been impressed with the built up of the Porthos storyline, but I am happy we're finally getting to the end of it...
And I'm glad to read in this that it pays off. I hope I feel the same way...

  19. I had a different guess on this above, but I can actually hear this line being said by Rochefort to Milady, perhaps.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I feel the same.. I'm just hoping that it's clear that Constance doesn't have any serious interest in Lemay, otherwise Constagnan's romantic reunion at the end will have a bitter feel as far as I'm concerned. D'Artagnan's love for Constance throughout the series has been absolute, whereas I've felt less happy about the way Constance's side of the relationship has been done. I understand that as a married woman, she's been in the more difficult position but I get the feeling in the wake of Bonacieux's death that ultimately, the producers didn't want Constance to ruin her moral reputation beyond that blip in episode 1.7 but whilst that kind of character is likeable, they're not interesting to many viewers and it also makes her love for d'Artagnan seem less passionate.

Thank goodness the wait is nearly over...

    ReplyDelete
  21. A less likely guess, maybe, but I can picture it:

“Thank god I have one precious memory to sustain me, the fleeting dream of the life I might have lived” - King Louis being dramatic

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sounds daft but my biggest fear about the end of this series is that the fallout from everything Queen related will come between Porthos and Aramis (I would have Porthos be supportive when he FINALLY finds/works it out but who knows where the show will go?) so I really want to enjoy their friendship now so to see they have moments together excites me. Its my fav friendship.

I am ready for the hangman this week! Bring on the letters :-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Followed by a childlike stomp out of a room...yep, I can picture it too. Idiot King!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I know what you mean. I just wondered if the 'over hasty' comment applied to him pushing her when she is still feeling guilt-ridden over her husband's death.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Or swooning dramatically and collapsing on the bed because he thinks he's been poisoned.

Of course, with Rochefort around, poisoning is not entirely out of the question.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I could see that. I could see this fitting for a lot of different characters depending on context.

  29. This seems to be another episodes filled with darkness, we can really feel the season finale coming. Sad ç_ç

“He’d think we were trying to poison him against his father” Aramis to the musketeers

“If you knew what I do, you would not take your Captain at his own valuation” Belgard to Porthos

“Shut up and kiss me” Constance to D'Artagnan

“Thank god I have one precious memory to sustain me, the fleeting dream of the life I might have lived” Belgard to Treville (i don't even know if they will meet, but let's try)

“Did I earn my place in the Musketeers on merit alone? Answer me!” Porthos to Treville

“I owe you an apology, last time we saw each other my behaviour was crude and over hasty” Milady to Rochefort... or Athos

“I didn’t love him, and I wasn’t faithful. There’s two reasons.” Constance to Lemay

“Beg, beg for my forgiveness. Beg! Beg for your life.” Louis to Anne

  30. Thank you Sandi for the preview - it's always good to hear your view beforehand. I am slightly apprehensive about this episode - I think because I didn't enjoy 'The Homecoming' so much last year, which was also Porthos-centic, so wonder what this is going to be like. However, I am looking forward to how all the stories are going to unfold prior to the two-part finale. Just a pity that they are going down that road with Lemay and Constance - I just hope that she lets him down easy and they can become just friends, which is what I was hoping for them. As you know, I do love Lemay's character and think it would have worked very well with Constance becoming his friend, so hope that this isn't going to impact any friendship that they may have developed in the future. There's already been a lot of good guesses with the quotes, so I will start working on the hangman!!!!! :)

It seems great that we have Porthos with some real frienship (yeh)! Hope they will be some humour too, escorting the episode.

  35. Absolutely, you could hear Athos saying it to Milady, Milady saying it to Athos potentially, D'Artagnan saying it to Constance if he tried to get a bit frisky with her and didn't consider that she might still be struggling with her sense of "guilt" over Bonacieux's death. I could see D'Art wanting to move swiftly on, failing to appreciate the sensitivities and desiring to get with his girl pronto without necessarily considering that she might need to deal with some issues first. I could also see Lemay saying it if he declares his undying and freaks her out.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It doesn't strike me as his way of speaking. It sounds a bit formal for d'Art to Constance. I'm guessing more Athos to Milady, but there are any number of possibilities for this one.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thank you Sandi for the preview - it's always good to hear your view beforehand.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Tech question - what does it mean when another poster's comments come up with a vertical line next to them? Whenever I respond to them it often doesn't show up...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sandi, I'm having a lot of problems posting today on this page - I can post on other pages, but it keeps saying my posts are pending on this page!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm not sure any of these quotes would be Lemay though because isn't that the spoiler Sandi is referring to that has been mentioned in the press but not in her preview? Since she didn't go there in her preview I'm guessing none of the quotes were his but I could be wrong. I had the same idea as you - that D'Art comes on too strong and then realizes he needs to dial it back. Also, as to Rochefort saying it - he is reaching such a heightened state of self delusion, I'm not entirely sure he would be prepared to apologize to anyone for anything at this point. Again though, I could be completely wrong because he and Milady do seem to have some sort of rapprochement.

I'm starting to think that if “Beg, beg for my forgiveness. Beg! Beg for your life.” is Rochefort to Anne, this could be the episode where Rochefort loses his eye!!

  49. I know where you mean, and I'd suggest staying away from there if you don't want accidental over-spoiling! I've been avoiding it lately for that reason. Certain people are always posting stolen photos over there, and while I like spoilers I'd prefer to see only the official ones (in here, for e.g), as the others often give far too much away. :(

  60. Yeah but i can't find them! I want to see them :(

    ReplyDelete
  61. Just a little request, as I can't post anything else at the moment. Is it possible to keep this post just for episode 8 please, as don't really want to be spoilt about episodes 9 and 10 yet! Thank you x

    ReplyDelete
  62. To me it seems like a weird girls-slaves trade... but the women in the promo talk about a game, which bring me to think about a human hunt at the beginning... The boys must feel seekened.

    Oh Porthos...

    ReplyDelete
  63. I do love it when the boys get righteous and morally-outraged though, so whatever's going on I am thoroughly looking forward to seeing Athos and d'Artagnan unleashing Musketeer hell on them!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Sorry didn't mean to start with the spoilers

    ReplyDelete
  65. Athos is defenetely not amused.
Musketeers to the rescue, i'm all for it!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ah no worries, I can understand everyone's excitement...I'm just frustrated as system only allowing me to post one line at a time at the moment on this page! :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Also love that we get to see our fav bromance pairs

    ReplyDelete
  68. Absolutely, and I think we haven't seen enough of Porthos and Aramis together this year, so it'll be good to see a bit more of that. Porthos will need his buddy. :(

    ReplyDelete
  69. Following Helen's request below, I'm going to go dark for a bit. As I postesd in the ep 10 thread, with all the super-spoiling going on with these illegal pics doing the rounds, I'm going to head off for a bit. Might be back ina few days but I'm trying SO hard to avoid anything unofficial and failing dismally. I know this is a spoiler site, so it's probably a bit hypocritical to complain about being spoiled, but since most of today's discussions have come from illegally posted images with major hints in them, I'm beginning to feel TOO spoiled and don't want to be ruined for eps 9 and 10.

I'll be back in a bit when (hopefully) people have stopped talking about them, or at least they've been made official.

Helen, I'll leave you the key to the side-room. :)

    Ciao.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Oi! What about me! Don't I get a key? :(

    ReplyDelete
  71. Whatever it is, it's yet more victimisation of women, which more than issues of identity or loving the way you want to love, or any other concepts, has been the real, distasteful, running theme in this series. I suspect we are dealing with some sort of slavery/sexual exploitation of young women. It would seem (disgustingly) that these girls are abducted and then paraded in front of men who take their pick or bid for their "services". It would appear that Athos and D'Artagnan go undercover and most likely, rescue these girls. I'm really hoping that in series three they might try to ease off on kidnapping as an episode premise and the never ending abuse of women.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Get back here!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. You're not leaving me too, are you? :(

    ReplyDelete
  74. Folks, I know that when it comes to viewing spoilers everyone has free will and frankly we wouldn't be on this site if we could avoid temptation in that regard! :) but can I just urge as a fellow fan, that we try to keep our discussions relevant where possible, to the episode threads and not reveal the content of the images that some people have seen. Everyone's been great at doing this so far. We're a decent, happy bunch here and we've always tried to be respectful of our fellow fans, some of whom clearly and entirely understandably don't want to go too far ahead and to know too much information. It's also worth reminding ourselves that these images may well be the ones that are circulating in breach of BBC copyright. Therefore if you do view them, please don't share them, as that would place you in breach of copyright also. Now on with episode eight......

  75. I have been off here since yesterday morning; i haven't seen anything new anywhere, should i not scroll down any further than the last few posts because i sense that discussions are happening with regard to certain images that have appeared? (That luckily i haven't inadvertently seen).

    ReplyDelete
  76. I could even see Rochefort saying it to Milady, reversing his decision to treat her like an enemy. I could see Rochefort saying it to Anne if his crazy comes out in a way she can see and he has to backtrack. Eh, it could even be something unrelated to the palace goings-on. Maybe Porthos or Aramis says it to Belgard or another of his family. Fun to keep guessing though.

  77. Sorry that I am late back to the thread today. I am just updating the post now and running through the comments in order to update the quotes.

I just wanted to say that as Scoobie says, keeping chat to the relevant topics would be greatly appreciated. i.e. episode 8 chatter in here or the Episode Info & Video post, and then episode 9 in it's relevant post, etc. You can find all the relevant posts under this link here. That way people won't be spoiled for episodes they don't wish to be.

Also, any photos that are not posted on the site have been stolen, and therefore break copyright laws. So please do not post them here on the site as we will have to delete them. I will add that Jessica and the crew are begging the fans not to spread these stolen photos as it damages the work they have done, but I do realise that this is down to you at the end of the day. As long as you are aware of the copyright situation and take responsibility for anything that comes of it.

Sorry to have to put my official hat on for a moment guys. I'll be back to chatter once I've updated the post :)

“There is a matter I must discuss with you, in private” - Athos to Milady or Rochefort to Anne

“Shut up and kiss me” - Constance to d'Artagnan

“Did I earn my place in the Musketeers on merit alone? Answer me!” - Porthos to Treville

“I owe you an apology, last time we saw each other my behaviour was crude and over hasty” - Aramis to Marguerite

    “I didn’t love him, and I wasn’t faithful. There’s two reasons.” - Constance to Anne or d'Artagnan

    ReplyDelete
  79. Trailer teaser, Rochefort to Constance?

    ReplyDelete
  80. “Beg, beg for my forgiveness. Beg! Beg for your life" Rochfort to Constance

“Thank god I have one precious memory to sustain me, the fleeting dream of the life I might have lived” Anne to Aramis

"My God there really is nothing left in there to save" Anne to Rochefort

“Beg, beg for my forgiveness. Beg! Beg for your life.” Rochefort to Louis

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ha, yes, they are a resourceful bunch those Musketeers. d'Artagnan knows how to turn on the charm offensive too ;)

    ReplyDelete
  83. They do seem to be pairing up more like that this season don't they, it feels like the natural way it would fall imo. They aren't very long scenes though, just to warn you. Portamis is probably the more involved, but then d'Art and Athos have more scenes with Treville, Constance & Milady to get through too. Aramis also does a bit of his loner thing also, which I do enjoy :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. "My god, there really is nothing left in there to save" - this almost sounds like something Aramis would say

    ReplyDelete
  85. That's what I was thinking but it wouldn't make any sense why Louis would be apologizing to Rochefort. I'd say it's more likely that it's to Constance.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Nice little preview clip on the BBC website.Should appeal to the Porthamis fans. :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. If he's looking for Constance to beg for her life, he'll be waiting a while. She a tough little cookie with courage to burn.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Zuzana Sedláková2 March 2015 at 18:39

Yeah, that's probably better idea :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Haha he will underestimate her for sure ! Also I'm sure D'artagnan won't let anything happen to her and i'm sure he'll go through great lengths to try and
    save her.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I don't/can't really say much about it at present, but yes it does feel a bit strange. I would much prefer that they had given the two of them a non-romantic plot point in the story if they wanted to include them together. The status that they hold, and their age difference, makes it a bit ridiculous in my eyes, and yet another fleeting obstacle at this late stage is pointless imo. Their characters would have been better served without it in my eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Ooo I'll have to go take a look now! Thanks for the heads up :)

    ReplyDelete
  92. You're welcome. It's kind of puzzling that it's taken him this long to spot the crucifix, but I suppose it's such an unexpected thing to have happened that it never crossed his mind before, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yep, the slithery snake tries a different tactic with Milady in his search for information about Aramis.

    ReplyDelete
  94. “My god, there really is nothing left in there to save” Lemay to Rochefort

    ReplyDelete
  95. She can easily spit in his face while waiting for D'Artagnan.

    ReplyDelete
  96. It's impressive as in it's massive, much larger than Athos' ancestral home for example. However, the Marquis has become a virtual recluse so it has that Miss Havisham's Satis House look to it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I have to admit I'm regretting voting for 'k' to be the first letter...it only appears once! Not off to a great start...then again I never am! I'm always useless at these things.

    ReplyDelete
  98. From your excellent right-up Sandi we are left with the reality that the series has two episodes in which to attempt to conclude the relationship dilemmas - if in fact they are concluded.

It feels like a rush to the exit leaving little time for meaningful dialogue between any of them. I had always hoped that Milady got to tell Athos face to face and truthfully her side of their situation. Unless of course she, in a twist, is infact totally bad.......

    ReplyDelete
  99. You're welcome! I know what you mean, he's so down to earth, honest, true, a great soldier and a clever man. I never want any harm to come to him either. It's great to see Howard have a chance to come forward in an episode too, much of what he does gets lost in the background of a scene I feel at times.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Ha, yes, I could see that too! He is fairly dramatic in this episode, but his depression has increased since last week somewhat and has sapped some of his vigour.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Ahhh..until 'k' was added I had the perfect first sentence, ready....'Bedridden Treville is evil and makes Athos sing loudly all orders to everyone, but bad singing has Athos sat alone in the tavern'
Damn the lack of 'k' for 'makes'... :-p

    ReplyDelete
  102. Interesting that it's information about Aramis that he's searching for. I figured he'd just pull Milady in due to recognizing her general skills could be useful to his insane cause. Which, I guess this qualifies in a way.

This thought is way out-there, but I always assumed there was an initial rough-draft of a script somewhere where Adele wasn't supposed to die and the Cardinal was meant to go more on the hunt for information about who had been engaging with his mistress - utilizing Milady to this purpose as it seemed he was going to in the first series when he asked her to find out who owned the pistol left in Adele's room.

Rochefort seeking Milady out for information on Aramis feels like that potential plot line re-tooled. I'm sure it isn't. I'm sure it has nothing to do with it. But it feels like the threads are there.

    ReplyDelete
  103. It is quite a dark one at times, I think everyone's emotions are played with in some way or another really. There are a few happy moments too though, but we are heading for a fraught finale where everything will come to a head!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I like it when Aramis goes off on his own. Not sure why.

Also, as much as I like the traditional pair-offs in the buddy-ships, I really like it when they mix them up too, re-affirming that all four of them are best buddies. ;)

I love it especially when Aramis and Athos team up, but what I'd really love to see is more Porthos teaming up with d'Artagnan. We've seen the two of them work together, but not enough, imo. Porthos and Athos, yes. Aramis and d'Artagnan, often, actually. More Porthos and d'Artagnan would be lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I like Lemay too, I mentioned to Scoobie above that I wondered if it was partly just o give him something to do, perhaps that wasn't medical related. I'd have preferred it not to have been romance related too :p You all know that I am not particularly invested in the romance side of the characters anyway, but it's reassuring to hear other people saying there's an overdose of it going on atm too. Before episode 5 there were so many fans questioning 'what romance?' on the show, as there hadn't really been any, that feels so long ago now, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Tragic. And we don't even get "Musketeers" as a word in the hangman this time. My favorite word eliminated so quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Hopefully, they will find a better balance between the romance, action and stories next year. I think it would have been better to have a mixture of all these elements in each episode, rather than a overdose in 1 or 2 episodes, otherwise people who like one or the other switch off.

    ReplyDelete
  108. You're welcome Hana :) There is a few bits of humour, and there's definitely a lot of love and trust between them - even though you may have to watch it twice to totally get that bit - but it is a bit of a dark episode in places I am afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'm having a few problems too, it seems very laggy and sticky. I can't see a problem on Disqus, so like last time I'm not sure what the issue is I'm afraid :s Maybe we're just too chatty and they can't keep up with us ;) lol

    ReplyDelete
  110. That yellow line means that the comment is waiting to be moderated, so any reply to it won't show up I'm afraid.

By the looks of it around the time that you and Helen were saying you were having this trouble some people were refreshing the page looking for updates and the spoiler photos were also being discussed. That sudden increase in traffic possibly alerted Disqus directly, rather than us, that there was some suspicious behaviour going on, and so they looked into it. That's my best guess anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  111. “Beg, beg for my forgiveness. Beg! Beg for your life.” - Rochefort to Marguerite

“Thank god I have one precious memory to sustain me, the fleeting dream of the life I might have lived” - Anne to Constance

    ReplyDelete
  112. I'll always tweet out when I do an update. I'm afraid that the times I give out are only approximated as I get caught up sometimes, sorry :)

    ReplyDelete
  113. There's nothing specific that's been said, fortunately, just general, "wow, I can't believe it!" type comments. But, these shouldn't be in here anyway, as a) it is about illegal and stolen photographs that break copyright laws, and b) this is a post about episode 8, not the finale. Hopefully that has been made clear now :)

    ReplyDelete
  114. The second one is correct :)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Haha, awesome. Maybe you should be the one running these hangmans ;)

    ReplyDelete
  116. The finale is two hours long, which means it can cover quite a lot. When we think back to two episodes ago, after The Return, they were all in very different places to where they are now, for example. Plus there is no 'story of the week' to fit in along side the main arcs, which also helps things a great deal I think.

    ReplyDelete

“My god, there really is nothing left in there to save” - Lemay to Rochefort

“Thank god I have one precious memory to sustain me, the fleeting dream of the life I might have lived” - Anne to Constance

    ReplyDelete
  118. You're all doing so well at the hangman these days, darn teamwork, you all make such wonderful Musketeers yourselves ;) lol. There's a lot of quotes guessed correctly though, and I'll get a picture clue sorted for the next update too :)

    ReplyDelete
  119. Thank goodness! :)

    ReplyDelete
  120. I'm surprised the 'shut up and kiss me' line is D'artagnan and not Constance speaking. It doesn't seem like something he'd say. Is it said in an endearing way? Because the line itself doesn't read very well , especially if Constance is feeling guilty over her husband's death

    ReplyDelete
  121. There is another Anon! Hi, other Anon! You confused the heck out of me t'other day- thought I'd been typing in my sleep. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  122. Thanks Sandi - it seems to have sorted itself now. :)

    ReplyDelete
  123. “My god, there really is nothing left in there to save”
    Athos to Milady

    ReplyDelete
  124. I thought that, too, and then got a terrible image in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  125. It will be nice to see Anne and Constance bonding

    ReplyDelete
  126. I just want Milady to survive this series. Given the new promo pictures, it's looking less and less likely.

    ReplyDelete
  127. “Thank god I have one precious memory to sustain me, the fleeting dream of the life I might have lived” Milady to Athos

“Beg, beg for my forgiveness. Beg! Beg for your life.” Rochefort to Aramis or Margurite

    ReplyDelete
  128. Oh no did you have to say that......Whatever you may have seen could be misleading

    ReplyDelete
  129. I was surprised it was D'Artagnan too but I think it's actually a fun line that will be said with affection and not aggression. It's a bit of a romantic trope. "Shut up and kiss me!" It will most likely be said as Constance tries to explain her hesitancy or perhaps even apologise for something. It's the second time they've given D'Artagnan a well worn line. He got all Star Wars with his response to Constance's "I love you", to which as we know he responded, "I know". Channelling Han Solo, give or take a few centuries and galaxies.:)

    ReplyDelete
  130. Sorry. It could be misleading for sure -- I think it's more likely that she'll take the opportunity to disappear. I mean, for any Athos/Milady shippers, it's not like there's ever going to be a happy endgame, but still.

    ReplyDelete
  131. ahaha well perhaps the others could be musketeers since they usually do all the work! im more of a rochefort unfortunately: sit back and let the musketeers do all the work...aw well I'll certainly try this week!!

    ReplyDelete
  132. nooo! please don't say that (ahhh!)^^.

    ReplyDelete
  133. if you really want to know , look carefully on Twitter or tumblr and if you search well you may see them . (I don't want to SPOILER everything -it's not really fair for the others- ) Sorry ! ^^. It's all I can say .

    ReplyDelete
  134. I can't see Milady laying herself that bare, but it might make sense as Porthos's Father to Porthos, as he dies.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I saw them.. I don't like many of them!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I was surprised that it was dartagnan and not the other way round simply because it seems like something constance would say but I completely agree with you scoobie, I see it being said in a joking way, theres no doubt about that.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I mean, I love this ship -- but realistically it can't sail.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I have a feeling that when you see it play out it will make you smile. :)

    ReplyDelete
  139. Yeah sorry! i've been looking through this site for ages, enjoying reading people's speculation as well as Sandi's previews, and with the season hotting up i couldn't resist replying. Anon was the first thing that popped into my head!

I've changed my name to stop it being so confusing!

    ReplyDelete
  140. You're probably right. If it's delivered in the right way it could sound really romantic and cute. It just reads weirdly without being acted out. I personally loved the 'i know' line, because i interpreted it as him basically saying, i know you love me, but i also know it's complicated for you so i'm not going to push you any further than that.
To be honest, i guess if that line was a teaser quote it would look quite weird too, like he was being a bit arrogant, but the way it was acted out made it much sweeter than it would first seem.
So yeah i'll look forward to the scene :)

    ReplyDelete
  141. Anon(ymous Goat)2 March 2015 at 21:27

Haha! We both changed our names! Thanks though. I am easily confused. Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  142. yeah, I know but I don't wanna think about it (lol). Let's first see all the episode and we will see if she makes it or not at the end.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I agree.

I don't want to feel left completely empty handed with the relationship - even if it's never going to work i hope the dance that they have been doing this series amounts to something even if its only fleeting, i would feel really cheated if........well, i'd like to find out at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I feel like a bad fan for this, but if Maimie leaves I don't know that I'd have that much motivation to continue with the show.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Laying my cards completely on the table here: if they don't bone down, I will riot.

It's been way too much UST between the two to end on a PG farewell.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Anon(ymous Goat)2 March 2015 at 21:47

Is it sad that I have sentences ready to go? Serious ones too- they're not all about Athos singing. We're going to rule this Hangman! All for one and...yeah, you get the picture ;-)

"My God, there really is nothing left in there to save" Athos to Milady upon realising she is as evil as ever? Or Treville about the Idiot King would make me laugh...

    ReplyDelete
  147. me too! I'll watch it but not with the passion that I have now cause I love Milady and her complexe character (her romance with Athos too).So it'll a little hard to watch it , knowing that one of your favorite character is no longer in the show.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Yep, agree with you on this point, hope we will found out very soon ^^.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I love when episodes turn dark, really, but now i've a bad feeling. I'm feeling anxious and a bit down... more than a bit, actually, but only on the ship side. Well, i'm saying "only on the ship side" but the main plot is kind of revolving around that so... i don't know, i want to see the season finale but at the same time i don't want to. It's a mess, i hope these feelings pass soon. :p

    ReplyDelete
  150. oh okay ! but don't think too much about it , we don't know what really happen so it could be better when you see the episode than some photos^^.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I hope they are just photos..

    ReplyDelete
  152. Oh.....I'm so glad Anne says this. It's so heartbreaking. Hopefully she's talking about her night with Aramis. This may be all the Annamis shippers will get this season!

    ReplyDelete
  153. By the finale being two hours long, do you mean episode nine and ten are being aired back-to-back as a two hour finale, or that episode ten is two hours?

    ReplyDelete
  154. Lol - love your new name! Stayed away quite a bit today, so expected you to have finished it by now! Hoping it is about Athos singing! :)

    ReplyDelete
  155. Genius name! :)

    ReplyDelete
  156. *puts official hat on*

Guys, please stick to the topic of the post in here, which is episode 8. Do not start discussing spoilers from the finale, take them to the relevant posts so that other people who do not want to be spoiled by them do not read about them. I don't want to, but I will have no choice but to delete any comments that do not stick to this, sorry.

Also, the photos that have been leaked today have been confirmed to be stolen by Jessica. Once again, please do not post them or discuss them in this post.

    Many thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  157. “Beg, beg for my forgiveness. Beg! Beg for your life.” Rochefort to aramis or louis

    ReplyDelete
  158. At the moment, I'm completely unsure when and how it will air. I know BBC America will have ep 2.09 on the 14th, the rest is pure guess work at present. I'm leaning towards the BBC showing ep 9 on BBC Two on the 13th, or possibly the 14th, and then 2.10 the following week. But, they could air them both back to back on the 20th, or just show 2.09 then and 2.10 the following week.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Hey there musketeersfan, welcome aboard!

As an aside, I'm sorry if I miss out welcoming any new posters recently, please feel free to give me a budge and say hi! I've had such a busy week and I know that I must have missed some of you out, please know that it hasn't been intentional, and it's great to see you all here :)

    ReplyDelete
  160. So they're two separate episodes? But the story arc follows over, almost like a two parter type thing?

    ReplyDelete
  161. Oh, that makes sense then. Is there a list out there somewhere of the locations that the show uses in/around Prague? Because the houses and palaces and gorgeous and I would love to know more about them.

Also, the sneak peak from the past few episodes has been from the very start of the episode. I wonder if that's the case here, because I was assuming from the promo and pictures that we'd start with the Treville/Porthos conversation, with Porthos initially leaving on his own and the others catching up. If we don't see/hear Treville's explanation ourselves and only have them refer to it after the fact, I am going to be super irritated.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Is it safe to come back? Can I put my musket away now? Thanks, Sandi, for sorting things out. It's much appreciated! x

Hangman: All I can guess so far is that the first word could be Rochefort.....?

    ReplyDelete
  163. how about treville, will he meet Belgard.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I hope so, I've tried to put up warnings in place about the photos being stolen. Jessica has also made it very clear what the situation is on Twitter too, so I hope fans will respect her wishes. If you do spot owt amiss do flag the comment or give me a nudge and I'll get it sorted.

    Glada you're back, you've been missed ;)

    ReplyDelete
  165. Aw, thanks! It's nice to be missed, even if it's only for a few stroppy hours. :P Foot stamping is over, I promise!

I think Jess should repost her warning on the #TheMusketeers hashtag, though, rather than just her usual #Musketeers 2 or #Musketeers. I've noticed that's where most of the show's traffic is, and where I fell over the damn pictures today.

    Back to episode 8: **j**** = injured?

    ReplyDelete
  166. Wow, what a day. I stayed away as well Knitty42. My effort leads me to the 2nd line:
    who/his/majesty/has...
anyway, i'm also thinking there should be a "team effort" somewhere in there. Maybe our next letter will be more than one given. Also photo clue: Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who/Torchwood but all I can see is "team"/"all for one & one for all" being a meaning. Wish the boys would say that more often, just melts my heart.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Ooh, the picture clue is Torchwood, one of my all time favourite tv series. I believe that is the team from the 'Miracle Day' episodes when nobody in the world but Jack could die, what that could mean in terms of the upcoming Musketeers episode is beyond me at this moment.

Another single letter to help us with the hangman, it's going to be tricky this week. Thanks for the update Sandi! :)

    ReplyDelete
  168. picture clue ist tv show Torchwood

    ReplyDelete
  169. “Beg, beg for my forgiveness. Beg! Beg for your life.” - Rochefort to Constance

    ReplyDelete
  170. The question I have is, when they finish filming 9/10 do they know that they have season 3 in the bag? Or do they have to finish the set like they aren't going to renew? That would make a big difference in how the scenes get written. Personally I would love to have them back to back but it might make a difference between US/UK due to your "Red Nose Day" thingy.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Way to go Emma, Positive. At least there won't be a moment where Musketeers get told off. :D lol

    ReplyDelete
  172. Glad to see you back too Trena :) Yep, Torchwood: Miracle Day is the clue. Any excuse to post a picture of Barrowman ;) lol

    ReplyDelete
  173. Yep, Miracle Day it is. It won't make too much sense yet, but once you have the next clue you can start to find the link ;)

    ReplyDelete
  174. wild guess its court of miracle, there porthos lived

    ReplyDelete
  175. Rochefort to Constance Perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  176. No, I'm afraid it isn't it.

    ReplyDelete
  177. If the quote above that is being said by Anne to Constance is about Aramis and their one-night stand then I'm very much looking forward to this scene along with the episode itself. It's really nice to see her perspective of their fling and how much it meant to her (if its about Aramis). I also am looking forward to Anne's and Constance's bonding time as well!

    ReplyDelete
  178. Oh Sandi. And thought you had a thing for Doctor Who and Star Wars. Now if you start quoting Chewy, i might die laughing. :0)

    ReplyDelete
  179. Trailer teaser: Rochefort to Aramis? Or to Milady?

    ReplyDelete
  180. Deborah Anstey3 March 2015 at 07:07

Hi Sandi Debz from twitter here. I'm going to have a go at the last quote.
Beg, beg for my forgiveness. Beg! Beg for your Life.. Rochefort to Constance maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  181. Yep, two hours is the equivalent of a movie - so quite a long time really..

    ReplyDelete
  182. Wouldn't the BBC Media Centre list episode 9 as being on the 13th if that was the case?

    ReplyDelete
  183. Hi guys. Dont normally post here but read loads! And this weeks episode has got me soo excited (love porthos!). My guess for the saving comment was Lemay to Rochefort/Constance.

On a different note - does anyone else feel sorry for Porthos - this storyline has been bubbling away and now it's coming to fruition he's being overshadowed by the premise of the big finale and the story building to that. I just hope the episode does him justice I'm not left dissapointed! And i cant work out at what point (and therefore why) the pauldron dissapears - in everything ive seen hes wearing it! Kim

    ReplyDelete
  184. I just hope it doesn't come across like Constance has any genuine feelings for Lemay - beyond friendship - because as Scobbie says, that would be nuts after Constance's declaration of love to d'Artagnan in episode 6 and it would really spoil that moment. If she's flattered by Lemay and briefly wonders if being a Doctor's wife would offer more security, I'll cope with it..

Time for wild guess number 1- "Rochefort attempts to find out about Queen Anne before his secret is revealed, but his injured eye finds him going to the doctor."

    No goats. No singing.

  191. The Radio Times has a couple of good little articles on the locations used:

Yep, the sneak peek is from the start, but that does not mean you will be irritated by a lack of explanation. All will become clear as you watch the episode :)

  193. Hi Kim, welcome aboard, always love to see a new face :)

Yeah, it does feel as though it is a bit over shadowed by the finale in some ways. But in the long term I think the episode sits in the right place for the internal struggles that he and Treville go through in it - and indeed the rest of the season both before and after this point. One of the teaser quotes hints at why the pauldron disappears for a while ;)
