Yeah, at the end Gotham ended up being just another cop procedural. It's only purpose seems to be getting the Batman lore out of the Flarrow universe. We could have had Harley Quinn... Maybe Dr. Hugo Strange(my favourite DC villain) as a big bad for season 6. Bane for season 7! The Joker for season 8!(That's because i think HIVE will be the big bad for Season 4 and Chackmate for Season 5)
Gotham makes me so mad, tbh. Why did they need the Batman license to do that show? It's just to mob families fighting each other.
Wow, you really did. LOL don't worry man, I've been there.
Gotham ughhh, it pisses me off! I'm sooo disappointed in this show. It's just an excuse to get all of his characters on the screen. It makes me sick. And the show is terribly boring. Nothing happens. It baffles me that it got renewed for a second season. I highly doubt it'll get a season 3. I could see it being cancelled within it's second season, seriously.
No just no. I love those guys, but Ra's is enough. And really the only big Batman villain they could use since Green Arrow has had dealt with him before. Plus Oliver has Merlyn. Bats has the Joker. And he must NEVER appear or get a mention in Arrow.
I thought so, I did enjoy the pilot against all odds but there's this constant expectation of seeing some character you've known for ages. However you don't get that feeling with all these (drastically different) young versions of popular DC villains/heroes. Not even Alfred managed to entertain me (despite the pretty on-spot portrayal)
I used to watch Arrow on the side during season 1, I liked it but didn't manage to grow too attatched to it. But then Berlantis interview came along with him pretty much explaining what they intended to do with Merlyn (him being the anti-Batman, similar backstory - different decisions in life). At that point I rewatched season 1 and fell in love with the show (thus Merlyn being my favourite character). It is the closes to Batman on TV I got ever since the opening sequence of Birds of Prey
It appears this way, they at least gave them Ra's. Still I'm a bit confused about the whole Blue Beetle/ATOM situation.
Although I'm starting to believe that this was a marketing decision: ATOM is a catchier name and a lot more Iron Man-y (I always knew that they were going for this: Iron Man - The Series) than Blue Beetle in its entirety. Also ATOMS powers are both similar to IM and eerily similar to Ant-Man (a character that will have his movie premier at the same time ATOM gets his spin-off...coincidence?). They're doing what I've been hoping for, for years: do what Marvel was too short-sighted for
I don't mind, your opinion, I'm saying wait til you see a clip, and SINCE he's supposed to be cheesy, you shouldn't be expecting anymore than that. If he's doing a recurring role, then he's going to do it like he did back then. So there's really no reason to harp on him when this is how he always portrayed the character. And since this is a sometimes, "cartoon-y" show, his performance fits right in.
He's a pretty anti- Alfred character. A lot more brash and less snarky and polite than the Alfred I love. As someone who loves Batman I feel besides the inspiration the similarities are more or less skin deep to me.
You know what bothered me about that whole thing? First of all they put him in the promo. (Definitely to raise the ratings) Then in the episode he's this innocent little thing, we all know it's a lie since they ruined that with the promo anyway. So everyone's waiting for him to reveal himself, blah blah blah, then when he finally does, he does this extremely cheap iimitation of Heath's Joker. The kid didn't even try to make it his own, like what?? Ugh, I couldn't take it. And everyone kept going on and on about it, ugh. I couldn't wait for the hype to be over with that.
I'm going by prior live action TV and film performances. I'm not pulling my opinion from out of nowhere. So, if my unflattering opinion is based on "back then" performances there's no reason why it shouldn't apply. That's like saying I shouldn't point out that someone is bad at making pizza because they've been making bad pizza for a long time.
Also, I don't categorize Flash as "cartoon-y." It may not be as gritty as Arrow and there is a large science fiction element to it but that doesn't mean there isn't part of the series that requires you to take it seriously and that a cackling, mustache twirling, Snidely Whiplash-type villain can be inserted into the series without seeming silly and out of place.
Well that's the point. It was never supposed to be a "Batman show" and to this day, I don't consider it as one. This is a cop show, in some TL we're not too sure about, with batman villains running around, not doing a damn thing in Gotham b/c technically none of them are villains yet.
I only watch for Two characters. And to have something else to watch. AlsoI'm waiting for Fish to get killed off.
I know, right? This potential Joker thing is pointless and a cheap way to draw in viewers, whilst just misusing Batman lore. And that Grayson reference? Why. I'm really trying with Gotham, because I actually like Mackenzie, Bullock and the Bruce stuff somewhat and the Penguin stuff, but even that's flawed and the rest ugh. And this need to tease everything like that Viper drug being proto-venom or the weird inclusion and re-naming of Poison Ivy is just not good.
Look, I'm pretty sure that if the writers wanted him to play it differently they would've said so. If they didn't he's going to play it the same way he did. He "made the character" if he puts a little spin on it, then good, but AGAIN that has yet to be seen. So iI'll continue saying wait for clip. (And actually if you were used to someone's "bad cooking" you could point it out every time, still wouldn't change the fact that they'd be a bad cook.)
As for Flash. I didn't say anything about Arrow, so iI don't even know why you felt the need to compare, but since you brought it up, both shows will have some "comic gimmick-y" moments in there, as we've seen. It's gonna have it's great moments, but also have it's corny comic touch to it. Trickster happens to be one of them. He's an old timer in this episode, he's going to stay an old timer in this episode.
I believe they'll pull a "Hawkman" and if they do, it'll make a lot of sense. Again, wait for a clip. B/c you see how that worked out in Smallville, it might've been a "Mustache twirling, snidely, whiplash" hero, but he was still amusing.
I honestly hope he does well. I don't want any bad performances. When I like a show I hope everyone who's cast does a good job and this is no different. I'd be more than happy if my skepticism here is proven to be unwarranted.
OMG!!! That Grayson reference??? I wanted to poke my my eyes out! Unbelievable. I remember a week before this "Joker" episode came out, I said to myself, who the hell are they gonna throw in next, Robin? I was being extremely sarcastic (as I tend to be) btw, and idc about that show to be looking at it's spoilers. Then lo and behold, they break out his parents, and surprise surprise she happens to be prego. Ughhh. I'm beyond trying with this show. But I'm seriously trying to stick it out. I only watch for Nygma and Selina. Have been since the pilot. The only two episodes i actually liked were the two that came right before the mid finale. The Harvey Dent episode. And the episode after that I think. It was the first timeI could like the relationship between Alfred and Bruce, and tolerate Bruce, b/c Selina made him loosen up. I haven't liked any episode since. IDC for Penguin, this feels like the "Cobblepot Show" I'm over it. I'm waiting for Fish to die, Bullock, eh, don't even get me started on Ivy. Smfh.
Best I could suggest is look up any of his work as the Joker in the DCAU or even his work as Trickster in JLU. It's voice but it'll give you basically a hint of his performance.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
enjoy it people, that's as close to a live action Joker on TV we'll ever get (and no, Gotham doesen't count)
ReplyDeleteI know Mark Hamill is nerd royalty but that kind of cartoonish cheese doesn't belong anywhere outside of the '66 Batman TV series.
ReplyDeleteCan't he vibrate out of the bomb??
ReplyDeleteWoot Woot! Mark Hamill. Woot Woot! Mark Hamill! Happy dance, happy dance, Woot Woot!!
ReplyDeleteF*ck Gotham. That was a red herring anyway. (As it should've been)
ReplyDeleteHey hey, You bite your tongue.
ReplyDeleteCan't do that. The director should have reminded him this isn't a voice acting gig for a cartoon.
ReplyDeleteYeah, at the end Gotham ended up being just another cop procedural. It's only purpose seems to be getting the Batman lore out of the Flarrow universe. We could have had Harley Quinn... ReplyDeleteGotham makes me so mad, tbh. Why did they need the Batman license to do that show? It's just to mob families fighting each other.
Well, this is gonna be a good one for sure! :D
ReplyDeleteWell, Flash is a bit more cartoon-y than Arrow and that show has Ham-man himself.
ReplyDeleteThat said, we haven't seen much of his performance, he could bring something to the table we wouldn't have guessed
I sincerely hope you're right.
ReplyDeleteI second that notion. Gotham is meh
ReplyDeleteWhy did they need the license? Marketing
ReplyDeleteLeave him alone. He's the same way he was then. Wait til we get an actual clip. And he's supposed to be "cheesy" that's the point.
ReplyDeleteWhat he said.
ReplyDeleteGotham sucks ass. And the fact that people actually thought that was The Joker, was just straight up laughable!
ReplyDeleteWow, you really did. LOL don't worry man, I've been there.
ReplyDeleteGotham ughhh, it pisses me off! I'm sooo disappointed in this show. It's just an excuse to get all of his characters on the screen. It makes me sick. And the show is terribly boring. I'm sorry you don't agree but my opinion is what it is. I'm more than willing to see how this shakes out but I'm certainly not expecting much.
ReplyDeleteNo just no. I love those guys, but Ra's is enough. And really the only big Batman villain they could use since Green Arrow has had dealt with him before. Plus Oliver has Merlyn. Bats has the Joker. And he must NEVER appear or get a mention in Arrow.
ReplyDeleteGod that Jerome kid. Ugh way to tarnish the good name of the Killing Joke by even implying it.
ReplyDeletetruth be told I haven't caught Gotham since midseason since it was just....jarring to watch a Batman show without Batman
ReplyDeleteYou're not missing much. If they had to do a prequel it should've been about Bruce training.
ReplyDeleteActually the Riddler does belong to GAs rogue gallery as well.
ReplyDeleteHowever I don't need any other Batman characters myself on Arrow, season 1-2 worked really well with its villains.
Yet I'd be totally game for DC to let writer pick characters of their choosing instead of intervening all the time with creative minds
They do in regards to Arrow I've heard. Except with Bats a lot, but that's always been a thing.
ReplyDeleteI thought so, I did enjoy the pilot against all odds but there's this constant expectation of seeing some character you've known for ages. Well I believe Kord is basically Palmer. Since he owns a company, has a powered suit. The difference is the name and dead fiancée. Also Atom predates Ant-Man.

He doesn't have that power yet. And that's speed related.
ReplyDeleteThe man is the best Joker there is. And probably the scariest. Give him a chance.
ReplyDeleteI honestly hope he does well. I don't want any bad performances. When I like a show I hope everyone who's cast does a good job and this is no different. I'd be more than happy if my skepticism here is proven to be unwarranted.

ReplyDeleteEspecially since Hamil did voice the Joker for years on Batman: TAS.
ReplyDeleteHe did it in the Pilot.
ReplyDeleteOnly in The Flash will I accept over the top cheesy villains like Heat Wave and Trickster. It will be fun.
ReplyDeleteYou obviously have never seen the old Flash TV series.
ReplyDeleteI have. It's not gonna be that cheesy.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't have phasing is what I meant.
ReplyDeleteWhen he went against the other weather brother in the Pilot, he suddenly fond himself inside the car. I always thought that's how he did it.
ReplyDeleteNah he just smashed through. The window was broken. But I hope he gets it in this episode.
ReplyDeleteIt's the perfect tie for it.
ReplyDeleteSure I did and there's a reason (multiple, actually) why that series was one and done.
ReplyDeleteLove your " based on "back then" performances there's no reason why it shouldn't apply" argument.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I call Dylan O'Brien a shitty actor I'm told that he's better these days...wich isn't true but it annoys me
I figured that this was the case, especially with actors from a show called "Teen Wolf" that fanboy/shipper thing is a given
ReplyDelete
