The Big Bang Theory - The Colonization Application - Review

BL Reviews The Big Bang TheoryTeaser:
In this first scene, you would think that Amy and Sheldon are taking their relationship to another level. It turns out they are getting a turtle together!!! What a fun joke this was when the viewers thought either they would get engaged or they were moving into together. I'm glad the writers wrote this tease very well.
Raj and Emily Plot:
For the first time ever, we get to see Emily's apartment. They are spending time together since her roommate is in Palm Springs. However, Emily gets a call from the hospital to see how a patient is doing. She puts all of her trust to leave Raj alone in her apartment. He takes advantage of this to go into Emily's room because he is lonely. All of a sudden, he accidentally breaks the drawer. Just when he tries to get advice from Howard via phone on how to fix, the drawer is not only broken but also the handles are too!!!
Later on, Howard tries to help Raj but Emily is back. He confesses to her what happened and of course, she is disappointed in him for snooping. They continue to fight as Howard and Bernadette continue to hear their fight via phone.
Shamy (Sheldon and Amy) Plot:
Meanwhile, Shamy are at the pet store looking for turtles. While at the pet shop, Sheldon admits that he put a application to be one of the first colonists on Mars without telling Amy. She is surprised since he did not to communicated it to her. She would have not approved it anyways.
Back at his apartment, she is still mad at him despite his attempts to cheer up including playing the "Star Trek" theme on his nose and showing her his application video, which included of virtually smashing a pie in Leonard's face. She decides to leave but he chases after her. She expected both of them to plan their future together but he asks if they are on the same planet and he seen people make long distance relationships. She wonders if she will go to Mars with him. There was a lot of maturity in him towards the end because he wanted her there with him in Mars. What I loved the most about this storyline was that Amy had enough of his uncooperative behavior and stood up for herself. She could have just left for good and broke with him. Had he not chased her down, they probably would have broken up for good. Good for him being a man to chase after her!!
Penny and Leonard Plot:
While kissing on the couch, Leonard lets Penny know that he got her a gift for Valentines day. However, he was too embarrassed because he purchased it at a dirty book store. It turns out that she loves the gift of the artistic present, which consists of canvass and body paint.
While during their canvass, Leonard ends up getting paint in his eyes and complains that she wouldn't let him wear safety goggles. Despite all of the chaos, they are happy with their new canvas. Since she doesn't want the picture in the apartment, they decide to give it to Sheldon and tell him that William Shatner painted that picture.
I found this plot to be the weakest point because their chemistry this week was uneven. Sometimes especially this season, I think that they have barely anything in common other than they live across next door. The only thing accomplished with this plot is that I liked how Penny tolerated Leonard's shyness of his gifts because some women would have been upset on Valentine's Day. He is lucky to have her in his life.
Ending:
Raj and Emily are in bed together! She has now forgiven him for his nosy behavior. It was good that the writers wrote the first fight. I hope to see them take their relationship to the next level.
Observations:
While this won't be the most memorable episode due to the weakness plot of Penny and Leonard, there were awesome scenes especially the references about the Lego Store where Bernadette was surprised to hear that Howard considered them as business expenses while they were doing taxes together. Also, another weakness is that this episode did not flow compared to last week about Howard's mother. The reason is that considering that that next episode emphasizes on the tribute of Howard's mother and the previous two episodes mentioned much about her, I was expecting that there was some mention about him missing her at least. At the ending credits, Chuck Lorre had the respect to pay his respects to Leonard Nimoy. I hope that there will be an episode of Sheldon making a tribute to him considering his big love for Star Trek.
Great review Ben! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love that TBBT is still great and this funny after so many seasons! It is my favorite comedy on TV (with Modern Family avery close second).
I enjoy watching Sheldon and Amy's relationship progress, albeit slowly. It's fun to see how Sheldon reacts to new elements that present themselves involving Amy.
What a great show...
