Scene Of The Week - March 15, 2015 - POLL

15 Mar 2015

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently on TV.

12 MONKEYS, "Tomorrow", March 13, 2015, Actors: Barbara Sukowa, Xander Berkeley
The Scene: Jones kills Foster (picked by Darth Locke)

BANSHEE, "We All Pay Eventually", March 13, 2015, Actors: Tom Pelphrey, Matt Servitto, Ivana Miličević, Langley Kirkwood, The Scenes: Bunker tells Brock about how he is one of the neo-Nazis & Carrie and Stowe fight
Sandi:
I've liked Brock a lot this year, it's been a good one for him as a character and we've seen a lot of growth there. Bunker has been intriguing since he first appeared and I've been dying to know more about him. I've also enjoyed the way the two of them have built up a bit of an understanding over the last couple of episodes. This last scene between them was very powerful, the emotion and intensity from Tom Pelphrey was memorising. I also loved that it harked back to Brock and his conflict over what happened in the opening moments of the season with the killing of Hondo. Looking forward to more from these two in Season 4 next year!
Bradley Adams: Tom Pelphrey was exceptional here. Bunker has become the most interesting character on the show since his introduction, and this deeper look at him was both shocking and brilliant.
DarkUFO: The Carrie and Stowe fight scene.

BATES MOTEL, "A Death in the Family", March 9, 2015, Actors: Freddie Highmore, Tracy Spiridakos, The Scenes: Norman changes the lightbulb for Annika & Norman returns with Annika's car
DarkUFO:
Norman changes the lightbulb for Annika.
Darth Locke: Norman returns with Annika's car, but no Annika!

BATTLE CREEK, "Syruptitious", March 8, 2015, Actors: Josh Duhamel, Dean Winters, The Scene: Milt and Russ make maple syrup together
Laura Markus:
Ah, now I'm starting to see Vince Gilligan's contribution to this show! What a cute and funny way to do an homage to the great Breaking Bad. It was really nice to see this little montage in an episode that was already so awesome and filled to the brim with emotions. This was just the cherry on top of a great episode of a show that seems to be improving every week. I love the pairing of these two, and I hope they have many more moments together.

BETTER CALL SAUL, "Five-O", March 9, 2015, Actors: Jonathan Banks and more, The Scene: Mike reveals what happened to his son
Bradley Adams:
The last scene where Mike reveals what happened to his son. If Jonathan Banks doesn't get Emmy recognition for this then there is something wrong.

CRIMINAL MINDS, "Breath Play", March 11, 2015, Actors: Jennifer Love Hewitt and more, The Scene: Kate informs the team that she's pregnant
Laura Markus:
This was an adorable scene where Morgan and Garcia were able to figure out that Kate was "glowing", and they insisted that she tell the rest of the team. Kate said, "Good morning, I'm pregnant." without wasting any time at all. Although I could've wished that JJ announced it to the team too, it was still a really cute scene, and it was nice to see the team's reaction to her announcement. I just hope that JJ is going to get a similar moment like Kate did. Overall, it was so nice to see the team happy together.

HAWAII FIVE 0, "Kahania (Close Shave)", March 13, 2015, Actor: Alex O'Loughlin
The Scene: Steve breaks down after seeing the kids' pictures
Klutzy girl:
I feel like this has been a long time coming, and Alex was amazing during the scene.

JUSTIFIED, "Dark As a Dungeon", March 10, 2015, Actors: Timothy Olyphant, Walton Goggins, The Scene: Raylan and Boyd talk before Raylan gets to Walker
Geo N:
Every scene that Raylan and Boyd are in together are great to watch and this past week's scene is one of the last few we will get to see between them sadly.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "Who You Really Are", March 10, 2015, Actors: Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, The Scene: May tries to calm down Skye after her powers are set off
Klutzy girl:
Their relationship has changed a lot since the beginning, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the team - fractured as they are - help her through this.

NCIS, "The Artful Dodger", March 10, 2015, Actors: David McCallum and more
The Scene: Ducky reveals that he's honorary grandfather to Jimmy's daughter
Klutzy girl:
Ducky reveals that he's honorary grandfather to Jimmy's daughter, Victoria. This is a fandom thing that's been around for a long time so it's really fun and sweet that it's become canon.

POLDARK, "Episode 1", March 8, 2015, Actors: Aidan Turner, Eleanor Tomlinson, The Scene: Ross rescues Demelza from a beating
Sandi:
Ross Poldark seems to have more of an affinity with the those from the lower classes than the upper classes that he belongs to. I feel that he understands them a whole lot better, and feels a sense of duty to protect and help them prosper during the troubled times they live in. I enjoyed the whole first episode of the series, and many scenes could have made the article, but this is the one that just wins for the way he steps forward and saves an unknown street urchin and her dog from almost certain death in front of a baying crowd of so called gentlefolk.

THE 100, "Blood Must Have Blood, Part Two", March 11, 2015, Actors: Eliza Taylor, Bob Morley and more, The Scenes: Clarke leaves Camp Jaha & Clarke and Bellamy kill the Mountain Men
Justyna K:
Season two is now officially over and I can honestly say The 100 is both one of the best and one of my very favorite shows currently on TV. Here's a shout-out to the entire cast and crew for their absolutely incredible work on the series. It's intense, groundbreaking, breathtaking TV and it deserves far more recognition and awards than it currently gets. Kudos! Now, about the episode and the scene. It had to be the saddest finale I've seen for a while. Even though (mostly) everyone from the Ark survived and got safely to Camp Jaha, there were no winners in this story. I feel like the moment Dante decided to take his son's side, was the moment everyone truly lost. There were no real negotiations, Cage, Dante (or anyone else in Mount Weather) never even tried to actually ask for help, let the others donate the bone marrow, instead of the nightmare that took place at their home. There were so many moments in the episode I could mention here, the most obvious probably being the part where Clarke and Bellamy (with Monty's help) kill all the Mountain Men. It's the most tragic thing. Especially with the sad realization that at this point there were no good options to save anyone. But since this scene is already mentioned, there's another one I really wanted to include in the article and that's Clarke leaving Camp Jaha. Her goodbye with Bellamy is so beautifully heartbreaking and so amazingly acted by both actors. Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley did such an impressive job in the entire episode (and season!) and it can all be seen in this one scene at the end of the episode. For being the brutal and honest consequences of the most horrifying of choices, the great writing and direction of the scene, for the actors and the music, this moment certainly can be called one of the most memorable scenes of this week.
Bradley Adams: Um... the whole episode? No? Have to go with Clarke killing everyone on Level 5. That was dark, even by the standards the show has set for itself. This really was a huge moment for Clarke.

THE AMERICANS, "Walter Taffet", March 11, 2015, Actor: Alison Wright
The Scene: Martha frantically disassembles tech in the bathroom
Darth Locke:
So often we see Martha As an almost one dimensional character, but in this episode we really get to see more sides of her.

THE BLACKLIST, "The Major", March 12, 2015, Actors: James Spader and more, The Scene: Reddington reveals he originally hired Tom Keen
Tonya Papanikolas:
The revelations in this scene came so casually, I had to rewind the dialogue as I thought, "Did he just say what I think he said?" It was like a casually-dropped bomb. We already knew Reddington and Tom knew each other, but we finally learned the extent of that relationship - that Reddington had hired him. We can only assume he hired Tom to look after Elizabeth, that Red was the first person to insert Tom into Lizzy's life. We also learned that Tom's handler ("The Major") then turned around and re-sold Tom's services to Berlin to make more money. So you can see why Tom is not Red's favorite person - in Red's eyes, Tom betrayed him. The scene shed a lot of light on their relationship. And it also shed light on Tom's relationship with Elizabeth. The Major admitted Tom became a bad asset because he had become emotionally involved. That told us that Tom did indeed have feelings for Liz and never wanted to hurt her. I loved all the revelations in this scene. Also picked by Geo N

THE GOOD WIFE, "Mind's Eye", March 8, 2015, Actors: Julianna Margulies and more, The Scene: Alicia takes a walk outside
Tonya Papanikolas:
Alicia takes a walk outside, where her imagination gets the best of her. I can't describe how much I loved this scene. It was one of the most creative scenes I've ever watched. I loved how the music invaded her thoughts, creating whatever mood or tone she was listening to on her headphones. I loved how she couldn't get these crazy thoughts of her head, jumping from intimate thoughts of Will to Johnny to Finn, all while on the phone. I loved getting a look inside her head. I loved how a wheelchair on the street led to an imagined conversation with Canning. There were a few cheesy parts - like Finn mouthing Johnny's words, and a conversation with "Will" on the roof where the actor was too obviously not Will - but overall, I thought this long scene was brilliant. I loved the direction. I loved the music they chose and how it worked with each thought Alicia was having. I thought the whole show was fantastic, but this particular sequence just floored me.

THE WALKING DEAD, "Forget", March 8, 2015, Actors: Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride and more, The Scenes: Aaron offers Daryl a bike and asks him to be the other recruiter & Carol threatens the little boy
Tonya Papanikolas:
What a wonderful scene. It was touching because this friendship was so unexpected. Daryl is really having trouble adjusting to being inside the walls. He is very different from Aaron yet Aaron seems to understand Daryl. He understands the "outsider" perspective. That unlikely bond was a nice surprise. You could see how much Aaron's overture meant to Daryl. In practical terms, Aaron was helpful. And in emotional terms, he was looking out for Daryl - and Daryl recognized that. I loved that Daryl's gratefulness was timid and sweet. It was almost like he didn't know how to act, except to say thank you, which was perfect. It was gratifying to watch Daryl make a new friend and learn to trust someone new, someone very different from himself.
DarkUFO: Carol threatens the little boy.

This week everything goes to the 100!
Those scenes Made me cry and knockin on heavens door was the perfect song choice

    Honorable mention:
Emily Takes down Margaux and mentions the braceslet (Revenge)

    ReplyDelete
  2. Honorable mentions:

The 100 - All the reunions & Lincoln vs Cage & Maya's final goodbye & Bellamy and Clarke kill the Mountain Men - so you know, the entire episode, pretty much.

Agents of SHIELD - Everyone finds out about Skye's secret

Person Of Interest - Finch stops Shane from killing someone

NOTE: I'm 100 % sure The Musketeers would be in the article if I've seen the episode before writing it.

  4. So many great performances this week which has led to many great scenes.

Better Call Saul: Mike telling his daughter in law the truth about Matty "I broke my boy" and Jonathan Banks broke the entire audience.

Justified: Raylan and Boyd busting each other's balls outside the house, I really don't want them to hurt each other in the end they are just too much fun together.

The Americans: The bug is discovered and Martha's bathroom panic. Really glad this lingering plotline is playing out in true tense Americans style.

  5. All The 100 for me this week. The ending was my favourite though, both the video and the hologram. I didn't see any of it coming at all and it opened up so much for next season.

Clarke leaving was close 2nd but unlike 99% of the fandom, not because of Bellarke (not romantically speaking anyway). I loved it from a storytelling point of view, like what comes next for Clarke and how will everyone cope with Clarke gone. I also love the friendship Clarke and Bellamy have which is why I found the scene emotional. I noticed on Tumblr most people described Bellamy as being heartbroken, sad and afraid but I saw it as he knew both of them would be ok, that Clarke needed to do this and was at peace with it, I love moments like those in any type of relationship where they just accept it even if they don't really want to.

Clarke & Bellamy killing all the Mountain Men was another scene I loved, it was so well done and Maya's death just topped it off. This is another scene that I can't wait to see the fallout for, especially how Jasper handles it.

Honestly going into this show I never expected to like it this much and it just exceeds all expectations at every opportunity.

  6. The 100 - So many amazing moments in the finale, it's hard to pick one. However, I will go with the last scene that Bellamy and Clarke shared, when they said their goodbyes and Clarke left. It was the most emotional moment for me( 2nd place is Maya dying and Abby-Clakre reuniting).

  7. The 100 wins the week for me! I don't know how I'm gonna survive hiatus.

  8. Better Call Saul. Jonathan Banks had a phenomenal performance, he definitely deserves an Emmy Nomination.

  12. I'm picking The Good Wife, The Americans, Justified (Raylan vs Boyd is basically anything I want: anything) and Better Call Saul.

    Honorable Mention:

    1) Vikings: the little chat between Ragnar and Ecbert and the "beautiful" end of Siggy's story.

    2) Black Sails: Flint entearing Charleston and the gruesome discovery in the fort.

  13. Martha's scene on teh American was brilliant, the way she was acting during that moment and everything that happened tehre was great. I choose one.
Also in the pick: The 100 , the one Clarke, Bellami and Monty decides to kill everyone on lvl 5 and it wasnt tehre but i found Murphy and A.L.I.E's scene really great.
And last but not least. the Blacklist with Tom and Red reveal. We finally have one answer of the whole lot.

  14. Cheers for posting Justyna!

I wanted to include an awesome scene from BBC America's TX of The Musketeers, but I will stick to the BBC One schedule for that and put it in next week's article instead.

The Banshee finale was awesome, very sorry to include some of the action sequences but that Bunker/Brock scene just blew me away with it's brilliance. The show may have lost two wonderful characters this year in Nola & Siobhan, but Bunker is definitely a big gain in my book.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I can't choose just 3 this week.

Banshee- Tom Pelphrey. I just use his name because everything he does is that good to me.

    Carrie/Stowe fight.
The 100 - The entire Camp Jaha montage. It was well done and the cinematography was beautiful.
Paige Turco's performance when Clarke and Abby reunited.
    Lincoln killing Cage.
Justified - Raylan and Markham's duel with words. "Kiss my ass Markham."
The kid with the busted lip flipping Raylan off. I'm still laughing.
Raylan and Boyd's scene at Ava's. "Is that why you came? To help me find my balls?"
"You want to lean in for a kiss?"
"I gotta admit. There is a small part of me that's going to miss this when it's over" You and me both Raylan.

Me neither. I have been listening to knockin on heavens door every day and it reminds me of how excellent season 2 was. I mostly cried because the season was over

  18. Thanks Sandi!

The thing is I always go by the first date the show airs in the article (with only rare exceptions) but I didn't have a chance to watch the Musketeers yet so that's the reason the show's not in the article. Now, I really need to re-think the whole thing.

  19. Same here. This season was AMAZING.
What would you like to see in season 3? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. My personal xhoice would be the last 20minutes of The100.
The whole Caroline mess with Liam. Bonnie punishing Damon.
And eva Sin lair waking up.

  21. Picking three this week was impossible. Seven different episodes had superb scenes this week. Those that I didn't pick in the article:
Walking Dead: Carol threatens the kid
    SHIELD: Skye shooting herself
POI: The flashback where Finch decides not to kill Corwin
The 100: As I mentioned in the article, the whole episode
Empire: Everyone says goodbye to Lola

    ReplyDelete
  22. Honorable mention to Sherlock helping Watson with her mom in Elementary.
And Abby and her mom reunited in the 100

i hit "other" because im counting the paleyfest panels for arrow and flash.

  24. I loved the whole episode of The 100 and I was crying most of the time. I am very excited for Season 3 and what will happen next :)

Besides The 100, I loved the moment when Carol threatens Jessie's son. I am not sure if it is all smart what they are doing but better to play it safe. To add to the Walking Dead, I loved the scene when Sasha lost it at the party. It was so true and just heartbreaking :(

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Walking Dead (Carol was scary), 12 Monkeys (it was quite sudden), and Agents of Shield scenes mentioned were some of the best scenes I saw this week.

    12 Monkeys:

The best scene this week for me was when Cassie died in Cole's arms. Her calling him James and telling him she didn't want to die alone, Cole reassuring her she wasn't, and him kissing her forehead after she died was terribly heartbreaking. Such a well written and acted death scene.

Person of Interest: Harold decides not to kill Corwin

the 100 and banshee are my favorite this week, too bad both ended too this week ... i hate wating :'(

    ReplyDelete
  27. Banshee was amazing this season.

Waiting is the worst. So it's time to find something new to watch - it's the only way to survive hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I feel like Black Sails should be on there (it rarely is and I strongly think it should be week after week). From this weeks episode the scene when Eleanor finds her Father has been crucified by Vane.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's not available to watch for about 80%+ of it's fans at the moment, which is the reason I didn't want to include it as it would be a big spoil for just about any of them that read the article. It's such a big mess tbh :(

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ugh, I know. Big mess sounds right. No idea when I'll watch the episode and post the review. For now, it's just waiting.

  31. I thought McGee's pose would have made it

  32. - THE 100: THE WHOLE EPISODE...yep, but especially both of the scenes mentioned here, Eliza Taylor deserves as many awards as Tatiana Maslany does. She was great on season 1, but terrific in season 2. And the scene with Bellamy was heartbreaking, she saved her people but lost herself in the process. For once, she made a decision for herself, and I think some time away will be good for her. My only hope now is that we only have to wait until September/October and NOT until next year. I agree with Justina, this is one of my favorites, and I need more!

    - BANSHEE: THE WHOLE EPISODE!!! Seriously, not one bad or boring part. But I have to go with Gordon's death. He was never a favorite of mine, but he was a good father and husband, and he was a badass in this episode, and I liked that he was the one, and not Hood, to save Carrie in the end. To make things worst, Job was being taken at the same time Gordon was dying, what...a...finale...

    - 12 MONKEYS: Quickly becoming one of my favorites too, it's much better that I had anticipated. The scene when Jones kills Foster, and the massacre aftewards, damn show. I'm glad it got a second season.

    ReplyDelete
  33. That cover is lovely, and it made the whole scene a lot better. and the setting and lighting...and the actors...and....(I could go on and on...)

The blacklist - The reveal of Tom/Reddington's former relationship. We all kind of knew it after 2x08 aired "I never told her about us..." But it was still a big slap in the face, to think that Red was the one who hired Tom first. No wonder he hates his guts, he betrayed him and screwed Liz [no pun intended]. If it weren't for Tom/Bill/bud - i believe Red & Lizzie might have never met, he would still be lurking in the shadows. I am still wracking my brain as to how far Tom was suppose to go if indeed he was hired to protect Liz, just like Eszra? Did Red know who he was before 1x18 - I still believe that red has never lied to Liz, so it will be interesting to se how the writers work around that Golden Rule - Is there a parallel between the actual stories of TBL and the characters background?..i wonder if the show is that complicated & full of curveballs or maybe the simplest solution might be the correct one after al & the answer is staring us right in the face. I love the puzzle this show presents, but really dislike the half answers given.

  36. 1. MORE MONTY! He's such a great friend. I just love him. I hope that Jasper will be able to forgive him.
    2. I want to see how Octavia will react for Clarke's decision.
    3. Lincoln as a Sky Person having interactions with someone else than Octavia and Bellamy.
    4. Bellarke reunion - at some point.
    5. Maybe Kane and Abby getting together?
    6. I don't want see Lexa. I love Alycia and I hope she will be 100% dedicated to Fear The Walking Dead.
    7. Miller and his dad. Besides Clarke/Abby they are the only parent/child.
    8. And I want Jaha dead

  38. The 100: Knockin on Heaven's door just breaking my heart in two. Really the whole episode was so amazing & different then s1's finale which I appreciate. Almost every character has developed immensely in s2 so the emotional beats throughout the episodes were spot on. Taylor,Morley,& Bostick were highlights for me. The goodbye scene was obviously emotional but after a rewatch I think the best scene was when the two pulled the lever together. They will carry this for the rest of their lives & ultimately that is one of the reasons that led to the goodbye scene but will also bond them forever. & thank freaking god Lincoln got the kill. Goodbye Cage may you not rest in peace & get eaten by king kong.. or a reaper I don't really care. Except in a way I'll miss your creepiness? The whole season was special & I will miss it dearly during hiatus

  42. The best scenes to me were on the apocalyptic shows. The 100: it was really hard for Clarke to kill those innocents but she did what she had to to save those people. It was good that Bellamy helped her pull the lever so she wasn't alone. I didn't want her to leave but she did have to because she would just remember it every time she saw those people. The walkind dead had some good moments as well with mainly Daryl and Carol. It was nice to see Daryl bond with Aaron and make a new friend. I'd really like to see him with a bike again and he would make a nice scouter for the camp. And last but not least, Carol. She was just amazing in this episode. I love how she's so invisible in this community. She almost got away with her plan but that little boy followed her. And omg when she threatened him I was on the edge of my seat smiling and so shocked. To be honest if a random person talked to that little boy like that, I would want em to die but since it was Carol it just made me love her even more
