Ratings Breakdown:
The ongoing juggernaut on Fox called “Empire” scored what could be an historical record with its eighth consecutive week of overnight household growth. It topped the night at a 9.6 rating/15 share from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, this was 33 percent above the second half of “American Idol” on the year-ago evening (7.2/11 on 3/05/14). It was four percent above the 9.2/14 last week. And it built from the 8:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “Idol” (6.9/11) by 39 percent. Keep in mind that the 9.2 rating in the overnights last week translated into 13.90 million viewers and a 5.4 rating/15 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data.
Eight-week overnight track for “Empire”: 6.8/10 – 7.3/11 – 7.6/12 – 7.9/12 – 8.0/12 – 8.2/13 – 8.8/13 – 9.2/14 – 9.6/15. While “NCIS: New Orleans” on CBS may be the most-watched new primetime series this season, “Empire” is the breakout success.
Aforementioned “Empire” lead-in “American Idol,” meanwhile, scored a dominant 6.6/10 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m., which was seven percent below the 7.1/11 one week earlier.
In series-premiere news, “CSI: Cyber” on CBS led the Wednesday 10 p.m. hour with a 6.4/11 in the household overnights. Comparably, this was seven percent above the series-premiere of former time period occupant “Stalker” on 10/01/14 (6.0/10). The overnight retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “Criminal Minds” (6.5/10) was 98 percent. And the household rating at 10:30 p.m. was consistent at a 6.4 – all good things. But, given the mountain of promotion, initial sampling for “CSI: Cyber” really could have been larger (and the expected the audience is expected to mirror 50+ driven “Criminal Minds”).
Earlier in the evening on CBS, episode two of this new edition of “Survivor” was consistent from one week earlier at a third-place 5.5/ 9 in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m. And that translated into a solid 2.4 rating/7 share in adults 18-49, based in the Live Plus Same Day data last week. But the first half of a clips edition of NBC’s competing “The Voice” (5.7/ 9) actually had a slight advantage. We’ll see what the demos look like.
“Criminal Minds” on CBS at 9 p.m., meanwhile, scored a comfortable 6.3/10 from 9-10 p.m., which opposite “Empire” on Fox dropped by 10 percent year-to-year.
Over at ABC, overnight results were virtually flat from one week earlier care of “The Middle” (#4: 5.3/ 9), “The Goldbergs” (#4: 4.9/ 8), “Modern Family” (#3: 6.1/ 9), “black-ish” (#4: 4.3/ 7) and three year-old “Nashville” (#2: 3.6/ 6). And while “The Goldbergs” did dip from “The Middle,” these almost identical overnights last week translated into a 2.5 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 for “The Goldbergs” out of a 2.0/ 7 for “The Middle.” That said, ABC could very easily move “The Goldbergs” into the Wednesday 8 p.m. anchor half-hour next season if it wants to utilize “The Middle” elsewhere (or not issue a seventh season renewal).
Elsewhere, the aforementioned two-hour “The Voice” clips show resonated with a 5.7/ 9 from 8-10 p.m., which is certainly a “winner” given this was more or less a repeat. And it led into an encore telecast of “Chicago PD” at a 3.5/ 6 at 10 p.m. (#3), which was just one-tenth of a rating point below competing “Nashville” on ABC.
The CW capped off the night with a repeat of “Arrow” (#5: 0.9/ 1) and an original installment of “The 100” (#5: 1.0/ 2), which managed to build by one-tenth of a rating point (or 10 percent).

THE100 not in the loosers section?
ReplyDeleteMarc would be really bangerz to proclaim that episode a loser. I'm hoping for a 0,6, but realictic is a 0,5.
CSI: Cyber started off decently, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it skew very old. It's demo breakdown will be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI've learned never to underestimate the appeal of The Best Of The Blinds for The Voice as it always seems to do well for a repeat clip show. It should break a 2.0, which would be great for NBC Wednesdays.
Empire!!!!
ReplyDeleteNice to see the ABC comedies hold up well with the added competition.
The 100!!!!! It is not a loser :)
ReplyDeleteWell, he doesn't label it on the basis of quality ;)
ReplyDeleteI know but still, he hurts my feelings every week. ;-)
ReplyDeleteCookie Monster!
ReplyDeleteMy hope is Cyber skewing old enough to get a 1.9
Is this the first time the entire season he doesn't label The 100 as a loser?
ReplyDeleteABC appears to have held up very well from the very high numbers it had last week, we'll see how the actual demos look like. As for Cyber, I really can't tell from the overnights. I doubt it did better than Stalker since I expect it to skew significantly older.
Yes, this is the first time The 100 is no loser from his point of view.
ReplyDeleteAhah we have the same vested interest here but for those not aware we could look like bad people for wishing it that. But I agree with you, it should easily skew much older than Stalker and cancel out the small advantage in overnights.
ReplyDeleteI was asking myself what TV did in the winners section on a Wednesday? But than quickly scorlled down to see what the100 did and forgot to check. They are already at the best of Blind Audition stage but they just started last week.
ReplyDeleteThat's something I guess! Cool! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhy would ABC not renew The Middle?
ReplyDeleteNot even The Voice can hurt Empire !
ReplyDeleteCSI Cyber seemed to have started well. Let's see how it holds up in the coming weeks.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope The 100 will do decent.
The 100 can do well on its own! That's always good to see
ReplyDeleteWhy exactly do you hope that?
ReplyDeleteBecause of Spot's Question.
ReplyDeleteEveryone, the 100 is not a loser!
ReplyDeleteProbably because Marc is a retentionista. And the 100 had nothing new to retain from and grew from the repeat lead in. If he called it a loser it would just seem unnecessary when his usually argument is that it losing so much of the Arrpw HH's
We play a game on Spotted ratings in which we guess the ratings and the line for Cyber was 1.95 yesterday. We both bet on under so we are fishing for the point lol.
ReplyDeleteThe Middle is the unsung hero of ABC.
ReplyDeleteConsistent ratings over 6 seasons... Nice job :)
NO, IT HAS TO GO ABOVE A 2.0.
ReplyDeletecontract negotiations
ReplyDeleteABC will renew The Middle.
ReplyDeleteLast week, a 6.3/10 HHs for Criminal Minds equaled a 1.9 demo. Considering it will be around that this week, I think we'll probably see a 1.7 or 1.8 for CSI: Cyber. And that's without an original Chicago PD. Once Chicago PD gets back into originals, CSI: Cyber will probably be around a 1.5.
ReplyDeleteNot terrible for CBS, but not the huge hit that CBS was likely looking for.
I honestly wouldn't be suprised if everything on ABC, CBS, and FOX skewed older last night because of younger skewing competition from The Voice.
ReplyDeleteThere's always the possibility that he just forgot to copy and paste it. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'd say 9-10 millions for CSI Cyber
ReplyDeleteCSI Cyber is probably going to start decently... Though don't be surprised if it falls hard next weeks.. The reviews about this show are not very good !
ReplyDeleteIt's a clip show.
ReplyDeleteAh, I see now. Never heard of that until now. I do think Cyber can hit a 2.0 though it it's lucky.
ReplyDeleteFor perverse reasons, I hope it doesn't :P Anyway you should try it out. Spotted ratings is by far the best ratings resource in the web in my opinion and the question game is quite fun.
ReplyDeleteI think it is the first: after all The 100 stayed relatively the same without Arrow and against a growing Empire, so I think he gave it a break this week
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I can't find The 100 in the loser section...hm...weird :)
ReplyDeleteSocial media completely trashed it. I think it has a decent shot at holding until Chicago PD returns. Then it will get interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat's what the critics did to Stalker...
ReplyDeletewow! empire
ReplyDeleteCSI Cyber started decent, but I think it will decline hard in the coming weeks.
ReplyDeleteI hope Empire can maintain the upward trend against the DST effect.
ReplyDeleteYep, it is the most reliable show - rating wise - on ABC
ReplyDeleteWhats ur predictions for #AmericanCrime tonight?
ReplyDeletei know it should be in the loser section :)
ReplyDeleteIt probably won't be affected by then as they'll have their finale airing within the month.
ReplyDeleteI could see it doing a 3. It has a Scandal lead in and plenty of promotion
ReplyDeleteAnd say "It is not worthy of a third season renewal" blah blah.
ReplyDelete9M / 3.0
ReplyDeleteIt will be funny if a repeat of CPD beats a new episode of Nashville in the demo.
ReplyDeleteThe Voice clip show did well against Empire and Idol. NBC is an idiot for not airing a new episode of CPD or Laura at 10pm, but it doesn't really matter.
I think it can do 2.5+. I saw the pilot this afternoon and found it a bit weird and disjointed to be honest.
ReplyDeletewell given that Marc is a retentionsita and T100 built on its lead in by 0.1 I guess he cant really label it a loser even if that lead in is a repeat. T100 looks to have done about what it ususally does anyway.
ReplyDeleteEMPIRE was a CONQUEROR last night!
ReplyDeleteI loved the new single they released featuring Estelle and Jussie Smollett!
Cling to false hope. CBS weekday dramas always go up from top 25
ReplyDeletePeople are more excited about Marc not labeling the 100 a loser then the 100 rating itself xD
ReplyDeleteits ratings are hardly something to get excited about?
ReplyDeleteNBC should have run an original episode. It was bad scheduling.
ReplyDeleteprobably a good sign that its either moving to summer or Friday next season
ReplyDeleteI hope it can go to 3. Trailers look promising.
ReplyDeleteFor me Criminal Minds is a winner, many CBS dramas would fall apart in that timeslot.
ReplyDeleteAny show, where you have to think & pay attention skews older,, younger people today want shiny objects & cars blowing up
ReplyDeleteI know that, but Marc seems to think they would not renew it, which is ridiculous. "if it wants to utilize “The Middle” elsewhere (or not issue a seventh season renewal)"
ReplyDeleteWithout having seen Empire, I can say I like its success because it shows that for all of the headwinds, network television isn't quite dead yet. Its performance might be hard to repeat, but the fact that it's working so well must give network execs some hope.
ReplyDeletei know but giving Marc so much attantion.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why CW shows are exempt from puting up decent ratings.. they aren't a brand new network...Its CBS & Warner Bros..hence the CW
ReplyDeleteI assume they were trying to avoid the premier of "CSI: Cyber".
ReplyDeleteThat aside, they could have demolished Cyber with a Voice-boosted CPD, or they could have experimented with Laura to see how it would do with a stronger lead-in.
Empire....no comment
ReplyDeleteAmerican Idol seems doing well this season.
Empire continues to impress and probably has help AI stablize. Still surprised that FOX runs AI for 1:01 and Empire for :59. You'd think they reverse that to sell extra time on Empire.
ReplyDeleteThe Cyber comparison to Stalker premier is a bit flawed. CM got a 2.7 for premier and nearly 12MM. CM is probably 20% below that now thanks to Empire and The Cookie Monster. CPD/Cyber will be interesting to watch. Last season CSI won head to head, except for the cross-over episodes.
True, but I think everyone will sign on. I can't see them walking away, Charlie (Axel) is the one to worry about since he got the lead in that pilot.
ReplyDeleteSo basically, Fast and The Furious: The Series.
ReplyDeletethe reviews from the "critics" who cares about them..they are the same ones that said Empire would be a flop
ReplyDeleteOMG that song was in my head all night yesterday!!
ReplyDeleteI dont know why didnt NBC put TMOL or CPD original behind The Voice clip show,it needs some exposure and NBC could have made CSI Cyber being much lower.
ReplyDeleteI hope it doesn't move to summer, a lenghty hiatus would do it more harm than a Friday slot, I think. We would have to wait over a year!
ReplyDeleteEven returning at midseason would be better
Just amazing for Empire!! I hope ABC didn't fall too much because of The Voice. Looks like CSI Cyber premiered decently. Nashville please don't go below a 1.3!!
ReplyDeleteExactly. Either would have worked. It was their chance to bring unique viewership to Wednesday at 10 PM and they completely passed on it.
ReplyDeleteIt was a waste of an opportunity for NBC.
ReplyDeleteNashville ratings are looking more and more dreadful each week.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 held well without Arrow,it shows it can be a solid performer for CW.
its a show you have to pay attention to
ReplyDeleteAnyone think Empire can hit 6.0 by the finale?
ReplyDeleteAt this rate it will be well over a 6.0 for the finale.
ReplyDeleteEMPIRE rose again it seems. I guess a 5.6.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 lets hopr for that 0.6 ad stays that way damed.
Lol, the only way The Middle won't be renewed is contracts.
ReplyDeleteIt will be easy for the show to write Axl out if his pilot goes forward. If it doesn't, he'll either be written back in like nothing happened or just keep his options open for a while.
ReplyDeleteHow come the Middle skews differently in HH than the half-hours?
ReplyDeleteWhich I did. It's not like I was asleep while watching the episode. I'm not saying I didn't like it, it was just a bit disjointed until the end. And if you haven't read the description, you wouldn't know they were focussing on the race issues.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean?
ReplyDeleteWhat holds you back? Watch it! Empire is pure fun, a soap on crack basically with amazing performances. Acting, writing on this show is top, you miss out not watching...
ReplyDeleteIs there any news about NBC will move blacklist back to !ondays next season?
ReplyDeleteI think it has improved a lot on the past weeks or maybe I just got addicted now. I liked the early episodes but they were ultimately passable. But the last 3 or so episodes have been crazy good.
ReplyDeleteNot yet. Greenblatt said that he may consider it, but he wants to be patient and see how Thursdays stack up.
ReplyDeleteYeah I notice. I think it is non sense.
ReplyDeleteHe's not going to do it.
ReplyDeleteCan u give me the link?
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist is staying on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteThey won't and shouldn't do it. What leads you to believe a new show would do better than the blacklist is doing Thursdays at 9pm?
ReplyDeleteExactly
ReplyDeleteShocking! Everyone talking about The 100 & Marc, instead of Empire's ratings.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding for Empire!
They shouldn't do it. The Voice needs to be utilized for new shows, not propping up veterans.
ReplyDeleteDid he really say that? It is borderline insane if he does such a thing and if I was a Comcast shareholder I would put into motion a proxy contest remove him from his executive functions effective immediately.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if links are allowed, but it was printed in Variety. If you use the search bar and Greenblatt, it's the first article up where he talks about the potential fall schedule.
ReplyDeleteLinks are allowed.
ReplyDeleteNo he didn't.
ReplyDeleteThe interviewer was trying to put words in his mouth, and Greenblatt gave a typical media exec answer of "we're considering all of our options".
The Blacklist is not moving to Monday.
Thanks for telling me. It's written in this article:
ReplyDeletehttp://variety.com/2015/tv/news/bob-greenblatt-faith-based-drama-blacklist-comedy-changes-1201444294/
Yeah ,I think so.If the show continues doing badly,it probably won't stay on Thursday
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist is already in syndication with a $2 million per episode networks deal, so there's really no point in NBC propping it's live ratings up a 0.5 or whatever.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeletePeople on these comment sections need to not take these articles so personally. Its great that people enjoy the 100. I'm happy for them. But people also need to realize that the CW is like the fast food of TV networks. And there's nothing wrong with that. I know some people will take offence to what I've just said but tough! If you're eating a cheeseburger, admit you're eating a cheeseburger! Look at what you're eating and see it for what it is. Don't try to pretend its a Kobe Beef steak and yell that you're hurt and insulted when someone calls it for what it is. The same is true for the 100 and other CW shows. Just enjoy your show.
ReplyDeleteOh... way to go Empire!
I just finished reading and I am shocked that he didn't categorically said no to it.
ReplyDeletegood for abc and cbs
ReplyDeleteThanks, very interesting article.
ReplyDeleteThe should move Odyssey or something else to Monday.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 is Kobe Beef in the middle of the chunk of Cheeseburgers on The CW. The things that the show have done and the performances itself are representative of that.
ReplyDeleteNow Arrow and The Flash are Cheeseburgers, and pretty taste, great cheeseburgers, but The 100 is on a whole other level
I don't agree with the notion that arrow and flash are cheeseburgers. I think that's comparing across genres, which never works well if one genre is by definition more serious than the other. It's like saying that Modern Family is a chesseburger compared to Homeland or something like that.
ReplyDeleteEmpire growing every week has become usual business now. The question is, when will it stop? And could it reach The Walking Dead?
ReplyDeleteIf CW is full of cheeseburgers, does that make Jane The Virgin the happy meal?
ReplyDeleteIn the voice of Homer Simpson
ReplyDeletemmmmmmm.....cheeeeeeeeese......
I'm not shocked.
ReplyDeleteIt's rare execs give definitive answers in interviews, and his answer IMO leaned more toward a no than a yes.
"Would you consider moving “Blacklist” back to Monday?
Greenblatt: We’re going to be very focused on Thursday in the next few weeks. It’s not inconceivable that we’d make changes on a bigger level with 'Blacklist' if we felt like it was really engaged. But we want to be thoughtful, not over-reactive."
As vague as his answer was, it doesn't sound like he plans to move The Blacklist back to Monday.
Yep, it would. The others not so much.
ReplyDeleteYes but it surprises me that he doesn't flat out rejects the notion of moving a bigger level change with the blacklist again (read: change in days).
ReplyDeleteWell, that's true, but what I wanted to reflect with my comment is that The CW has good shows - like Arrow and Flash - and then it has an outstanding show like The 100.
ReplyDeleteI love both Arrow and Flash and they do great things at what they do. I don't mean to insult them on any way. But The 100 is the show that could - and should - snatch an emmy nomination for outstanding drama series
I adore the 100 to death but I don't necessarily believe it is on a completely different level from arrow and the flash quality wise. I think I love those shows too much to be unbiased here though. It's all subjective anyway and I fully recognize that. For instance, I still believe that Grant Gustin should legitimately be in contention for the major acting awards for what he does to the Barry character and the way he humanizes him and makes him pretty much the most relatable super hero out there. Most people will call me insane but well!
ReplyDeleteEmpire: 5.7
ReplyDeleteAmerican Idol: 2.1
ReplyDeleteThe Middle: 2.2
ReplyDeleteThe Goldbergs: 2.5
Modern Family: 3.4
Blackish: 2.3
Nashville: 1.4
Go Empire.
ReplyDeleteDecent fr Cyber but it's bound to skew old. If it stays between 1.8 to 2.0+, that should get in renewed.
Survivor: 2.3
ReplyDeleteCM: 1.9
Cyber: 1.8
We’re still in the early days of the move of Blacklist. We’ve significantly improved things on Thursday at 9 p.m. While Blacklist has taken a bit of a hit, we’re heartened by what we’re seeing in the 3- and 7-day delayed viewing numbers.

ReplyDeleteChicago Pd: 1.1
Damn...
ReplyDeleteWell, at least it's better than Battle Creek. I say if it stays above 1.5, it can grab a renewal.
ReplyDeleteEmpire!!! Will probably adjust up to 5.8
ReplyDeleteUnderwhelming for Cyber. It has no room to fall.
Arrow 0.4
ReplyDeleteThe 100 0.5
Both show have the same half hours:
0.5/0.4
AAAAAHHHHH!!!! Queen Cookie!!
ReplyDeleteNBC broke a 2.0 on Wednesdays....with a clip show.
ReplyDeleteThe Clip show might even beat Idol.

CBS hopes to carry on the CSI franchise with it. If it drops to 1.5, that will be the end of the CSI franchise.
ReplyDeletei`m scare now =/
ReplyDeleteHow can a repeat of Arrow has a higher 18-34 demo then an original episode of the 100?
ReplyDeleteNo hope on CSI renewal? Wouldn't CBS give CSI closure to fans after 15 years.
ReplyDeleteI particularly think The 100 has better actors, storyline and directions than both Arrow and The Flash. I'm obviously a bit biased since I adore The 100 above every other TV show, but if the themes The 100 deals with and the azaming work the actors put on the show simple outweight what it is done on Flarrow, even though it is pretty amazing work on its own.
ReplyDeleteJust my opinion: The 100 is a show that seems to reach the level of quality of GoT in its exploration of morality, humanity, hope and despair. It is really intense and gets better and better and that.
It could be said that Arrow and The Flash also deal with those themes from time to time, but they are much more light in comparison
The Voice is doing really well. I keep thinking that The Voice is why NBC seems to really be pushing for family friendly/variety type projects as they want a few to hit at once. In theory, NBC's audience should be very receptive to these projects, but the question is it will hold up in practice.
ReplyDeleteEmpire is out of this world!!! ABC had an almighty night again, these are extraordinary results for the comedies. If the 100 adjusts down and hits a 0.4 I will be furious!
ReplyDeleteCyber will do a passable job as winter filler but be cancelled.
The 100 is not very young skewing.
ReplyDeleteEmpire will hit 6s next week,
ReplyDeleteThe 100 can't absolutely NOT hit 0.4 in the finals. It just can't!
Empire reigns!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt won't. It only ever adjusts down because it Has arrow as a lead- and arrow always takes that 0.1 away
ReplyDeleteI know but Arrow was a repeat. I would have thought at least now the 100 can have a higher 18-34 demo. And The 100 was barely above Arrows viewer numbers.
ReplyDeletethe 100 won't adjust down. The only reason it did before was because of Arrow
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to watch live now that I know I can access almost any show any time I want. Plus, I am currently making my way through "Shameless," which I am loving.
ReplyDeleteMy overall point is that this is all too subjective because from what you were just saying, you tend to prefer shows that are deeper and less light, which is perfectly fine but doesn't mean one is better done than the other. It just feels too different for me to compare, if you know what I mean? This is an extreme case but if I like drama better than a comedy I will always choose a well done drama over a well done comedy. Here is a bit the same what you are saying. But it doesn't matter, I truly adore all three shows and I really don't like that I've ended up on the "against the 100" side of this discussion, I hate this role :P
ReplyDeleteNBC hasn't really picked up any family focused projects though, unless they are referring to Problem Child and How We Live....
ReplyDeleteHighly unlikely.
ReplyDeleteI actually understand why the 100 is not young skewing. I think it is rated TV-14 even though i think it would be fine to even rate it TV-MA V ( Violence)
ReplyDeleteThat article took a much more balanced approach to Greenblatt's comments. I think NBC will attempt to fix 8pm and 10pm on Thursday, before making any changes to The Blacklist's at 9pm on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteWinners: Empire, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, Blackish, Survivor, The Voice (R)
ReplyDeleteHonorable Mention: Criminal Minds, American Idol
Losers: No one, though I don't see Cyber being long for this world
Empire - endless Cookie jar. Keeps on giving.
ReplyDeleteI swear if The 100 adjust down!... PLEASE DONT.
ReplyDeleteEMPIRE hitting that 5.7 next week if things kepp up i can see a 5.9 even a 6.0.
First of all NASHVILLE is not in the losers position. It is up verses last week and is doing really well this year. I'd put it in the Honorable mention as its been really stable this year and will be renewed for a fourth season for syndication reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe Middle is still doing well after all these seasons. The Goldbergs are doing phenomenal this year. Modern Family still strong with the extra competition of Empire. Black-ish is holding up well. ABC have a really good Wednesday line-up this year.
CSI Cyber premiered well enough. Highest rated 10pm show in a while. So if these numbers hold up the show will be renewed.
American Idol is holding up well. Dow a lot but should be around for a few more seasons. The UK X factor is also down a lot in the ratings but stable. As is Idol. Empire is on fire. Enough said.
Wow at Empire. After last nights episode, I expect a 6.0 next week. It was the best episode of the season, by a mile.
ReplyDeletethat 0.1 belongs to Arrow, T100 gets to borrow it for a few hours
ReplyDeleteThe Middle beat Aerican Idol! :)
ReplyDeleteI mean we are talking about the 18-34 demos.
ReplyDeleteI Would be fine if the 100 kept those ratings in the finals!
ReplyDeleteAm I seeing that right? 1.1 for PD
ReplyDeleteyeah but this was a repeat so it won't adjust down this time
ReplyDeleteI agree, maybe Greenblatt should have doubled down on the Blacklist staying on Thursday by denying rumors of it moving to another night.
ReplyDeleteBut it seems he wants to stay neutral on the issue, which makes sense since I'm sure many are already blaming him for the failure of Thursday nights.
I think of all network TV channels as just different fast-food joints. Some food there will be better, even very tasty in its fast-foody way, and some will expired be frankly dangerous to eat. But i disagree with claiming that The CW is any worse than other networks, just because it caters to different demographics.
ReplyDeleteBut if there is one Kobe Beef, presented as a gourmet meal no less, that wouldn't be The 100, as much as I love it. It would be Hannibal.
he put Nashville in the loser colum due to ratings loss yty & poor retention out of Blackish, but yes it has been stable and will be rebewed
ReplyDeleteme too.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'm not sure Cyber could have done any better. It's only a bit behind Criminal Minds in both demo and audience. CM itself is weakening (due to Empire) so Cyber's numbers in comarison don't look too bad. Stalker had a much higher CM lead-in but only hit 0.2 higher for its premiere.
ReplyDeleteIt was a repeat
ReplyDelete'First of all NASHVILLE is not in the losers position. It is up verses last week and is doing really well this year. I'd put it in the Honorable mention as its been really stable this year and will be renewed for a fourth season for syndication reasons'. actually Nashville is a loser, FISRST of all it drops a lot from its lead in and then it is only getting a 4th season for syndication. ABC have practiacally been draggint the show to syndication for the past 2 seasons.
ReplyDeleteIt is really hard to say because as you say, it's a very subjective matter.
ReplyDeleteDramas and Comedies are two different categories, so they don't have to collide. Among dramas, however, there's procedurial vs serialized, genre vs none genre, fantasy vs sci-fi, and so on. There's so many categories and so much to choose from that's it's really hard to pick one from the crowd and say "this is the best one".
Some people prefer superhero dramas (Flash/Arrow/AoS/Agent Carter), some other preffer dramas closer to realities (The Affair), period dramas (Mad Men), serious sci-fi (The 100), wacky sci-fi (Doctor Who), serious fantasy (GoT), dramedy fantasy (Supernatural) and so on.
And there's nothing wrong with liking either of them, all of them airs to their respective audiences and do quite a good job on delivering. My personal opinion is that there are some shows that just standout of their respective crops and deliver something of unique relevance in the television landscape and deserves to be recognized for such a thing. The 100 is that show for me, and it's a very personal opinion, but that's what I think. But that doesn't mean I think any less of other shows. In fact, I think very highly of The CW as of now, delivering very good shows and keeping them around for the fans. It's just that I think that The 100 is the show that deserves the recognition the most
I'm sorry to say, but all television is fast food.
ReplyDeleteOh, OK.
ReplyDeleteAt this rate Empire will be above a 6.0 next week, and maybe at a 6.5 for it's 2 hour finale?
ReplyDeleteI agree and I think all of that is true but at the end of the day this number just isn't high enough to inspire much confidence moving forward. I also think the brand attached and the very low competition should have been enough to attract outside interest from Criminal Minds
ReplyDeleteWell it is doing better than most 10 pm shows (excludingHTGAWM)
ReplyDeleteAnd tied for first in its half hour :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have to admit I'm eating a damn thing since I don't consider the CW to be a cheeseburger network. That's a subjective and asinine comparison. I think the CW has quality shows. Especially compared to a few of the cookie cutter shows on other networks. If I want to watch a Stepford show, I do. If I want to watch a quality show, I do. You know what determines the quality of the show you're watching? The viewer. Not someone else's opinion.
ReplyDeleteWhy Blackish can essentially tie it with a HH point less and Goldbergs way over it with a little less.
ReplyDeleteEmpire rose again?! I'm a little worried about Supernatural facing it now.
ReplyDeletevery well said ;)
ReplyDeleteEmpire is awesome, it deserves it.
ReplyDeleteIronically, I trust STV more than TVBTN to not spoil it for me.
I doubt there is much overlap and Supernatural will only air against it for the finale week anyway, it can recover the week after.
ReplyDeleteEmpire 6.5 for finale? I'm only worried about it possibly dropping a little at the 8:00 hour.
ReplyDeleteIKR I never get spoiled here which is why i only go on TVBTN after i havw watched the episode
ReplyDeleteAh. The Middle is older skewing. Younger people like it less compared to the other comedies
ReplyDeleteWorried and Empire probably don't work on the same sentence ;)
ReplyDeleteI think it will start big and grow the entire 2 hours.
ReplyDeleteIt could even peak close to a 7.0 for it's final half hour.
It certainly could have done better, there's nothing to argue about that. It doesn't have much room to fall, but if it stays above a 1.5 it might get a renewal. Plus, because it's attached to the CSI franchise that might give it an advantage. I would still prefer Stalker over Cyber though.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The only thing that I have to watch out for here are the "Recent comments" section but I've learned to ignore it over the years ;)
ReplyDeleteMakes sense now that you say it, but just by watching the shows I wouldn't expect that—TM and TG are very similar in a few ways. I think the Goldbergs mainly captures the group of people growing up in the 80s, so around 30-40 years old now, and their kids.
ReplyDeleteA 1.8 its not good enough
ReplyDeleteThat Arrow and SPN return will be tough as it comes back to a 2 hours Empire season finale. But think both shows have solid and loyal viewership so it should work.

I think it's because people can talk about their shows in detail on the polls and review pages.
ReplyDeleteAt TVBTN there's no other way to talk about a show other than on the ratings posts.
I think if it settles at 1.6 it would probably still be canned as CBS could still probably do better with a newbie. Even an admittedly failed show like Stalker settled at around 1.5 for most of the season, so I doubt CBS doesn't try to do better. I would love for Stalker to be back but sadly I know it won't happen.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the standings of ABC comedies and total viewers, I am so happy to see the Middle tie for 1st from 8-8:30!!! Though Idol should be doing better than a clip show.
ReplyDeleteThe need more features.
ReplyDeleteSo, where is Empire going to move next season?
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, it'll air at 8PM to be used as lead in for another show. Any guesses if it either stays on Wednesday or moves somewhere else?
