Ratings Breakdown:
In a season for NBC marred the absence of any new hit programming (so far), now veteran “The Voice” continues to hold up the network. The singing competition topped this first Tuesday in March, with a season-high 9.8 rating/15 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. (peaking in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour with a 10.3/16). And its advantage in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics) is expected to be significant. Keep in mind, though, that competing “NCIS” (#2: 7.0/11) and spin-off “NCIS: New Orleans” (#2: 5.5/ 9) on CBS were in repeats from 8-10 p.m.

Opposite a repeat of “Person of Interest” on CBS (#2: 3.6/ 6), NBC’s “Chicago Fire” won the 10 p.m. hour with a 5.9/10 in the household overnights. Comparably, this was 40 percent above the 4.2/ 7 on the year-ago evening (which led out of an 8.7/13 for “The Voice”). In other words…lead-in still matters.

In more promising news for ABC, certain-to-be renewed recent sitcom entry “Fresh Off the Boat” rose by one-tenth of a rating point week-to-week, with a third-place 4.1/ 7 at 8 p.m. Last week’s 4.0 household rating translated into a very acceptable 1.8 rating/6 share in adults 18-49, so expect more of the same. And week three of comical reality lead-out “Repeat After Me” also perked up by one-tenth of a rating point to a 2.7/ 4 at 8:30 p.m. (#4), which translated into a 1.3/ 4 in the demo. Too bad more people are not watching.

Next on the alphabet net was the return of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” at an underwhelming 3.0/ 5 from 9-10 p.m., which was still 11 percent above lead-in “Repeat After Me.” Comparably, this was 14 percent below the most recent telecast on 12/09/14. And older skewing ABC freshman drama “Forever” followed with a last-place 3.3/ 6 at 10 p.m., which was six percent below the 3.5/ 6 one week earlier (which resulted in a bland 1.0/ 3 in adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same day data).

In season-premiere news, “Hell’s Kitchen” on Fox returned with a diluted 3.0/ 5 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. (#4), which is still expected to generate interest in the key demos. But 9-10 p.m. lead-out comedies “New Girl” (#4: 1.9/ 3) and “The Mindy Project” (#4: 1.6/ 3) continue to lag. “New Girl” is a shell of what it used to be.

Elsewhere, The CW capped off the evening with encore telecasts of “The Flash” (#5: 1.1/ 2) and “Supernatural” (#5: 0.7/ 1).

  1. Fresh Off the Boat is the new Middle, just a few tenths lower. Super steady.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Im impressed,it even managed to rise slightly in viewership.

    ReplyDelete
  3. HTGAWMRevengeOUAT4 March 2015 at 14:23

Oh okay thx i have a hard time understand the HH ratings

    ReplyDelete
  4. I noticed that Honorable Mention isn't a bad thing for Mark. He usually uses it when a show does better than usual, or does suprisingly well against tough competition (like FOTB now). It doesn't mean that it's not a Winner show.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Probably.I am so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  6. So, 1.5-1.6 for Shield?

    ReplyDelete
  7. HTGAWMRevengeOUAT4 March 2015 at 14:26

Looove your profile pic BTW ;)

    ReplyDelete
  8. Nooo AOS I wanted a 2.0 damn it

    ReplyDelete
  9. I was hoping 1.7=1.8 for AoS, but looks like that won't be happening.
FOtB continues to get good ratings. So happy about that.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think it's because of the fans of Patricia Heaton from Everybody Loves Raymond, a hit show from the 90s.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wow for The Voice at 10.3 HH in 9:30 p.m. half-hour.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They aren't of much use honestly, I don't bother trying to understand them very well.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Why have SHEILD in the 'Modest' category but then call it underwhelming? I really don't get Marc sometimes. At any rate SHEILD will be renewed for a 3rd season come May and probably a 4th for syndication.

Any chance Netflix picks up SHEILD in the rather unlikely event it gets cancelled after season 3? I know it won't happen, just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  14. That was never likely to happen. But hopefully it'll not even be a series low given it's had a HH rating of under 3 before. Really can't tell much from the HH though, anything could happen.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That said, it's been under a 3 more than once so it doesn't mean it's going to do badly in the demo.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I know that,im dissapointed after that winter finale i thought it would start with a 2.0 demo.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ouch both New Girl and Mindy, but especially Mindy.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Really happy with what FoTB is doing :)
Shield seems to be scoring something on the range of 1.5-1.6. Not too bad, but not a great start.

The Voice seems to be regaining some steam and CF is certainly going to benefit

    ReplyDelete
  19. Do you think if Agents of SHIELD gets renewed, will move to another night?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't know, what else would ABC put on Tuesdays at 9?

    ReplyDelete
  21. What else is ABC going to put there? S.H.I.E.L.D. holds its own considering the tough competition so ABC is happy with it, not a lot that they could put there would do better

    ReplyDelete
  22. Unlikely. It would be its third move on its third season.

    ReplyDelete
  23. There is no "if". It "will be renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hoped that this Inhuman storyline had brought some life into it but guess not.

    ReplyDelete
  25. back in Oct AoS got a 1.7 off a 2.9 so it's possible

    ReplyDelete
  26. HTGAWMRevengeOUAT4 March 2015 at 14:35

    Yeah that is true!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think it will stay put but if the spring season goes below the fall season I could see a scenario in which it moves to 10pm and ABC tries a new drama at 9. I don't particularly like the idea but I think it's possible.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Shows have been moved more than that, I don't think it's the issue. The issue is what ABC does there.
FotB is doing great, but it needs something to be paired with - possibly The Middle or Black-ish - and then AoS would have a respectable lead in; it may do good if it has something to carry on viewers into it

    ReplyDelete
  29. FoTB wasn't my favorite episode but I'm glad it rose, hope it translates in the demos as well.
Nothing else for me here. Till the Flash and iZombie come back.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am hoping it gets at least that much.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It ties in more with total viewers than it does with the demo

    ReplyDelete
  32. It should, it is far more interesting and connected to the MCU than ever before

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yep, 1.7 in Top 25 last night. Although I think it tends to go down in Fast Nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would agree with this, but show(AOS) in its 2nd season shouldnt rely on lead-in.

    ReplyDelete
  35. ABC doesn't have anything compatible with it. They haven't even ordered a genre drama pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That slow start to the season really killed it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Great for FOTB, even though it wasn't the best episode. Repeat After Me doing pretty well. I hope The Voice helped Chicago Fire a lot. SHIELD did very underwhelming.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I advise against using the HH to predict the performance of extremely young skewing shows like the FOX comedies. Unlikely to be representative.

    ReplyDelete
  39. There are shows in their older shows than that which rely on their lead-ins.

    ReplyDelete
  40. True, but it did decent during the fall, so maybe it could do decent on its own and do better with assistance. All in all, it's about making Tuesdays work, and anything else could risk having the entire night fall apart. ABC has a chance of making Tuesday work; they may not win it, but they may score decent results now

    ReplyDelete
  41. Top 25 Market Numbers have been entered into the table and will be available shortly. Refresh to update.

    ReplyDelete
  42. They could put Quantico at 9.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Great for Chicago Fire.Glad it rebounded without comedies.

    ReplyDelete
  44. A different lead in can make a difference as to how many people watch live vs catch up via DVR or online

    ReplyDelete
  45. They missed their chance with The Whispers. Why didn't they try it out on Tuesdays is beyond me

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah, I keep wondering the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  47. FOTB is a keeper for ABC Tuesdays; leave it right where it is.
AoS... does it usually fall from its top 25? I hope not, a 1.7 would be a decent number for its return

    ReplyDelete
  48. Predictions based on top25 markets only:
    - Fresh off the Boat: 1.8-1.9
    - Repeat After Me: 1.3-1.4
    - Marvel's Agents of Shield: 1.5 (I want to cry!!)
    - Forever: 0.9

    - The Voice: 4.0-4.1
    - Chicago Fire: 2.1

    - Hell's Kitchen: 1.3-1.4
    - New Girl: 1.1-1.2
    - The Mindy Project: 0.9-1.0

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hopefully, Shield won't go that low... key word: hopefully

    ReplyDelete
  50. It does. I expect a 1.5 :/ I want to cry!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I pray that you are right

    ReplyDelete
  52. That might work since it's somewhat compatible, but I fear AoS might drop to low 1s at 10.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Me too, and I don't like the idea, but if it only does a 1.5 for the super hyped spring premiere it probably goes to low 1s at 9 too and that isn't a fair lead-in to give to a new show at 10.

    ReplyDelete
  54. New Girl did better when Masterchef Jr was on..

    ReplyDelete
  55. Unfortunately, typically it does fall from the top 25, yes, by anything from .1 to .3

    ReplyDelete
  56. Looks like NBC finally had something that did decently after The Voice, and it was Chicago Fire, the show that didn't necessarily need The Voice.

    ReplyDelete
  57. If it falls to new lows, could ABC cancel it?
If so, maybe both Shield and Agent Carter can be kept by another network... I think Netflix would be a suitable home for both of them considering their Marvel lineup.
Oh man, I'm already started to think about cancellation, this is depressing!

    ReplyDelete
  58. It's not like TMP is going to do any better than low 1s.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The Whispers will be summer series and almost no chance that it will be good in ratings for second season.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Which is why I predict next season Chicago Med will have the post Voice slot on Mondays

    ReplyDelete
  61. ABC must have lost confidence on it. Well, at least they didn't give it The Messengers treatment

    ReplyDelete
  62. No, ABC will renew Agents of Shield. Even a 1.5 is still renewable level for a sophmore, I think it would have to go substantially lower to be in danger. But I really didn't count on it returning this low, I honestly thought a 2.0 was in the realm of possibilities though realistically I knew 1.8 or so was more likely.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Masterchef Jr did better than Hell's Kitchen

    ReplyDelete
  64. They won't cancel it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anybody else think NBC Tuesday comedies will be DOA

    ReplyDelete
  66. Well, ABC is using NBA finals to promote it, so it might get good enough ratings. I know the show is more expensive than Mistresses, so mid 1s should get it renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I actually expected a 1.7, and prepared myself in case it did a 1.5. Well, it seems that it did.
So how much lower can it go? I mean, Shield has seen surges from time to time so maybe it could go up in following weeks - especially once Undeatable and One Big Happy premieres, getting The Voice out of there -, but how much can it afford to fall from here?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Predictions

    FOTB- 2.0
    Repeat after me- 1.4
    AOS-1.6
    Forever-0.9

    The Voice-3.9
    Chicago Fire-1.9

    Hell's Kitchen-1.4
    New Girl-1.2
    Mindy-1.0

    ReplyDelete
  69. But short season of 13 episodes possible if it will be fall to 1.2.-1.4.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I've always been in support of Chicago Med after The Voice. I think that they have a good shot at finding an audience there.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think it also depends on where they schedule it. I would like them to schedule a night of Beyond the Tank - The Whispers - Something else for the summer. Maybe Rookie Blue at 10pm for stability.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hoping FOTB can hit that 2.0

    ReplyDelete
  73. Considering their latest streak of failures post Voice: Marry me/About a Boy, State of Affairs and The Night Shift, it is entire possible for them to bomb hard

    ReplyDelete
  74. I am kinda of assuming Chicago Med will be put off till midseason like CPD.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yeah exactly! NG is on hiatus till March 31 so hopefully it will bounce back

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think 1.9 is more likely, but that's still pretty great

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think it's possible they do it but I don't get the why. I never understood why they did it with PD in the first place when everyone could have known that it was going to be more successful than the Ironside thing.

    ReplyDelete
  78. HTGAWMRevengeOUAT4 March 2015 at 14:54

TBH I think Shield will keep that 1.7

    ReplyDelete
  79. Considering the shape of NBC scripted department, I'd put it as soon as I can and in the best timeslot possible, otherwise they risk another failure, whereas this is part of a brand

    ReplyDelete
  80. highly unlikely ABC would cancel, it does well in DVR and online and has sold well internationally too

    ReplyDelete
  81. I really hope they don't try to compete with CBS in the summer with airing The Whispers against Zoo, UtD or BB.

    ReplyDelete
  82. It depends on how well Undateable does. If it struggles to find an audience, One Big Happy is done. And if that happens, then I think that we will see The Voice slide to 9 PM, The Voice recaps at 8 PM, and Chicago Fire at 10 PM.

    ReplyDelete
  83. What would be the use of that?

    ReplyDelete
  84. There's plenty of shows that have done well on DVR, online and internationally that winds up cancelled. Only The CW has shown to care about those factors, while the others networks seems yet to catch up

    ReplyDelete
  85. If renewed, Shield will have another 22 episodes order. a 13 episode order would be utter nonesense

    ReplyDelete
  86. There aren't that many nights empty to be honest. I think they should try Thursdays. Where would you put it assuming they do this two hour block? It's either Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday. Maybe Tuesdays though they would gave Got Talent and Zoo there.

    ReplyDelete
  87. How awful would it be for NBC if they started next season with zero returning comedies.

    ReplyDelete
  88. No way shield did a 3 in the households from prev ratings this year that's roughly a 1.7 or 1.6 please keep it shield and don't drop in the next 11 weeks damn you voice! Its way to strong right now

    ReplyDelete
  89. Fresh off the Boat is doing well, but at the same time its still early to see where the show will end up. The ratings could crash in the coming weeks, but for the moment the show is safe and doing well. Repeat After Me is doing well. It looks cheap to produce and should be fine depending on what ABC decide to do. Shield is doing bad this year. Its doing what Nashville was doing in its second season but Shield is a lot more costly to produce due to special effects. The show may get a 13 episode season 3. Forever is holding in there. The ratings are stable for the Tuesday @10 slot but are low. More than likley will be canceled. If renewed I will be shocked.

    ReplyDelete
  90. It wouldn't just be awful, but also unprecedented and shocking... but at this point it may happen

    ReplyDelete
  91. As mid-season replacement for Fall flop.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I wouldn't say shocking any more since we are all saying it is possible. I am still sad over About a Boy's inevitable cancellation.

    ReplyDelete
  93. BTW, do you like the show now? I thought you weren't a fan. Am I confusing you with someone? If not, welcome on board! It's one of my favorite shows!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Let's thank the gods The Voice is only airing at 8PM in two weeks. Undeatable and One Big Happy can't come soon enough; it'll be easier competition for Shield

    ReplyDelete
  95. It would still be quite surprising to see a network coming back to season with no returning comedies. It hasn't happened since The CW cancelled Everybody Hates Chris

    ReplyDelete
  96. There's also the all important Disney/Marvel franchise factor working strongly in its favor

    ReplyDelete
  97. I really don't see that happening. When ever ABC has needed to pull a show, they plug the whole with repeats till a new show is ready.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I got way more excited about it with the Inhumans storyline. It is not my favorite show - by far -, but it has gotten to a place where I truly enjoy it, so it would be sad to see it go.
To put it in perspective, it is undergoing the same curv Revolution did: pretty shaky start, but slowly starting to win over me, though Shield has been slower. But still, it's kind of annoying that just when the show is starting to appeal to me, it does bad

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yup I'm thanking my stars for it the show has become way too good now to just drop ( that Skye fitz scene was everything!!)

    ReplyDelete
  100. Well, ABC shuld be announcing their midseasn schedule in the next few weeks, they did that in that last week of March last year.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I feel like that always happens to me: when shows start to appeal to me, they do worse than they were doing before. It's so annoying

In any case, I am still ready to declare Shield as being in no danger whatsoever, so I wouldn't worry just yet, although it is damn frustrating to see it getting lower ratings than it deserves.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Yep, as it gets more interesting the ratings start to crumble. I hate that! It has happened a few times with other shows too: Fringe, Revolution, Nikita (though I caught up with it once it ended, but the episodes that I liked the most rated the worst), Pushing Daisies, and the list goes on and on!

    ReplyDelete
  103. CW doesn't even come in conversation, since it's not in the big leagues.

    ReplyDelete
  104. You could argue that's what they did with Body of Proof a few years back, but I doubt they'll take that route with Shield

    ReplyDelete
  105. Even if it falls to mid 1s, FOtB is still a certain renewal.

    ReplyDelete
  106. That's a major factor that may influence the decision making progress. But since the ratings are not that good, maybe ABC will plea for both shows - AoS and Agent Carter - to move to a different network or streaming platform (Netflix).

I'm just assuming, for all we know both AoS and Carter will continue to air on Tuesdays at 9

    ReplyDelete
  107. Agree, just saying that's the only time I've seen such a thing happen

    ReplyDelete
  108. I assume you mean summer schedule but yeah.

Probably I would do something of this kind:
Monday: The Bachelorette and later Bachelor Pad | Mistresses
Tuesday: Shark Tank (R) | Beyond the Tank | The Whispers
Wednesday: Comedy Repeats | Comedy Repeats | Astronaut Wives Club
Thursday: Extreme Weight Loss | Rookie Blue | How to Get Away with Murder (R)
Friday: Shark Tank (R) | What Would You Do? | 20/20
Sunday: Wipeout | New Reality | Wife Swap

Maybe replace the Tuesday rerun of Shark Tank by comedy reruns halfway to prepare for the comedy hour on the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I actually think that AoS did surprisingly well if you consider "The Voice" and the fact that it came from a long hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  110. It has improved SHARPLY!
Season 1 started off awful, but the back half was ok to good. Now season started a bit slow, but quickly caught up an interesting pace. And now it is fully engaging.

I won't take a second Revolution here! (A show gets worse ratings as it gets better on quality)

    ReplyDelete
  111. 1.7 for AOS? Not bad.... Just hope it's enough for it to get Seasons 3 & 4.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Surprisingly solid schedule I must say. Though Astronaut Wives Club seems to be off to fend for itself

    ReplyDelete
  113. I think you mean Bachelor in Paradise.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Yeah that, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  115. It's the same type of schedule under which Under the Dome was successful in its first season. And ABC comedy reruns were often some of the highest rated things on their schedule last summer and the block is even stronger this year. They could also swap it with Mistresses to give it the bachelorette support, but I feel like Mistresses would collapse in a different slot since it already does so poorly in the one it has.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Yeah, i thought it would come down low.

    ReplyDelete
  117. It's like ABC has forgotten this show exist. They didn't even mention it during the TCAs when they talked about their summer shows. It is getting the same treatment as Wayward Pines, but at least Wayward Pines is supposed to be close ended.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I get depressed thinking about Revolution since I truly miss the show. And it is really a shame that it got to air in what was probably NBC's best scripted season in ages, in any other year the type of relative numbers it was pulling at 8pm would get it renewed. And then a 4th season would also come. Damn...

    ReplyDelete
  119. i can see it get season 3... season 4 i dont know but i hope it does.

    ReplyDelete
  120. i dont think shield will be cancelled

    ReplyDelete
  121. I'm not in the favor of that, TBH. I'd rather we get weekly episodes of AoS.

    ReplyDelete
  122. If it gets a 22 episode season 3, then season 4 is guaranteed.

    ReplyDelete
  123. i m gonna watch (shield) whole season 2 in the coming summer just like i did it in season 1.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Glad to see CF is back to it's regular numbers.I'm content if AoS gets around 1.8.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Well, split seasons have been working for ABC, with TGIT and OUAT.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Watch them pull One Big Happy and replace it with frikin Welcome to Sweden

  127. I can't see Undateable doing well

  128. I'm not freaking out yet about SHIELD to be honest. It needs a 1.6 however...if it can hold there we should be safe

    ReplyDelete
  129. But they have nothing to lose by keeping it all in the family with ABC. And aside from all that, the show is still performing well enough that this isn't even a concern to begin with

  130. The problem with AOS is people don't watch it live, but they are watching. I woke up at 5 AM just so I could stream the new episode legally because I couldn't watch it last night. AOS practically doubles in L +7. It does ridiculously well on iTunes/Amazon. Good Blu-ray/DVD sales. It is very popular on Netflix. It can even sell comic books, movie tickets, and merchandise. The question now becomes if you can make money elsewhere, do live ratings matter? I feel like the answer to that is no they don't matter, at least not the way they did 10 or 15 years ago. DVR change the industry, therefore the business model must change.

  131. OBH only has 6 episodes in season 1, so I don't think they'd just let it finish the order.

  132. OUAT doesn't have to deal with The Voice.

  133. The Marvel shows are just horrible lead-ins for ABC. And the fact that they've not picked up a drama that could pair with them is ludicrous. I'd move SHIELD to 10:00, drag it to syndication, and call it a day with the Marvel partnership because what is ABC really gaining here?

  134. OBH is quite good, so I am going to be sad if it flops.

  135. I thought AoS would go up now that it has no SPN competition, but I guess not. I think that poor first season and some annoying main characters like Coulson may have KOed them early on.

    ReplyDelete
  136. And how does that relate to the split season part? I don't really buy the "long hiatus" excuse, since that hasn't effected other ABC shows that much.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I don't either. My point is unlike OUAT has stiffer competition that compels people to actually watch it live. AOS is DVR friendly. I expect the ratings to go up as soon as it doesn't have to deal with The Voice.

  138. Disney owns both ABC and Marvel. There is no "partnership" per se which the can call off.

Repeat After Me is an entertaining half hour, and ABC situated it basically the one place on its schedule where I'll be sure to see. Post Fresh Off the Boat and Pre Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I actually watched the whole ABC lineup last night.

  140. Is it just me, or does Shield look like its gonna be a four season flameout genre series?

    ReplyDelete
  141. Wayward Pines has promos, mentions in the press and, most importantly, a premiere date. AWC has nothing of the sort.

    ReplyDelete
  142. nope I think it will be 4 seasons

    ReplyDelete
  143. Yep, I know, but it's the closest example I had.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Horrible lead-in? It's not AoS fault Forever is a ratings disaster. Take out ABC's Thursday lineup and it is the 2nd highest rated drama on ABC.

Huh, I was already prepared for 1.5. It's only a tenth but this 1.6 looks so much better in my eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  151. The Voice is saving NBC right now, but the lack of competition is helping a lot too

    ReplyDelete
  152. I can deal with that. Really I'm just happy when it's not a complete bloodbath on Tuesday as for ABC. This is decent.
