Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence. Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

“The Voice” (NBC)

-Honorable Mention:
“The Bachelor” (ABC), “The Big Bang Theory” R (CBS), “Mike & Molly” (CBS)

Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy overnight victory for NBC, which featured two more hours of bona fide hit “The Voice” (#1 for the night: 9.5 rating/15 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m.) and week two of the sophomore season of medical drama “The Night Shift” (#1: 4.3/ 8 at 10 p.m.). Although “The Night Shift” did build by an impressive 26 percent week to week, overnight retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Voice” (9.6/15) was still only 45 percent.

In season-premiere news, Kevin Bacon drama “The Following” returned on Fox with a fourth-place 3.2/ 5 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, this was down by a hefty 29 percent from the 4.5/ 7 for the second-season opener in the time period (on 1/27/14), which was already down by double-digits from 2013. And the overnight retention for “The Following” out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “Gotham” (4.2/ 6) was so-so at 76 percent. One week earlier, “Sleepy Hollow” closed the season (or series) at a 2.8/ 4.

Overall, Fox’s demo friendly “Gotham” scored a 4.2/ 7 from 8-9 p.m., which was on par with typical levels.

Excluding “Mike & Molly,” CBS was in repeats last night. An encore of “The Big Bang Theory” (in place of regularly scheduled “2 Broke Girls”) finished third in the 8 p.m. half-hour with a 5.7/ 9, followed by the “Mike & Molly” original at a second-place 6.0/ 9 at 8:30 p.m. Next on the Eye net was a repeat of hit freshman “Scorpion” at a third-place 4.8/ 8 from 9-10 p.m., which clearly demonstrates the potential value of the drama in off-network. And it led into a repeat of the successfully relocated “NCIS: Los Angeles” at a second-place 4.2/ 8 at 10 p.m.

Over at ABC, relationship/reality mainstay “The Bachelor” was on the map with a 6.0/ 9 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was on par with a 90-minute edition on the year-ago evening. But, airing opposite NBC’s “The Voice,” it trailed by 37 percent.

At 10 p.m. on ABC was a repeat of the debut episode of Sunday drama “Secrets and Lies” at a third-place 2.7/ 5.

The CW capped off this first Monday in March with encore telecasts of dramas sophomore “The Originals” and critically acclaimed “Jane the Virgin,” which each averaged a 0.5/ 1 and both are confirmed to return next season.
