Ratings Breakdown:
ABC inched past CBS on this atypical Thursday, which featured two NCAA Basketball Tournament match-ups on the Eye net: Wichita State vs. Notre Dame and West Virginia vs. Kentucky. But since TBS, TNT and truTV are also telecasting various match-ups in the series, the overnights only reflect part of the equation. National ratings will include the results on the Turner networks.
Overall, the two basketball games on CBS averaged an estimated 5.6 rating/10 share in the household overnights in primetime, which was right on par with the year-ago games. On ABC, “Grey’s Anatomy” (6.5/11) and “Scandal” (6.4/10) topped the 8-10 p.m. block, and there is every reason to believe they will remain where they are next season. But week four of the alphabet net’s “American Crime” remained a disappointment, with a 4.3/ 7 at 10 p.m. And that same 4.3 in the overnights one week earlier translated into just 5.54 million viewers and a 1.2 rating/4 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. ). Four-week overnight track for “American Crime”: 6.6/11 – 4.5/ 8 – 4.3/ 7 – 4.3/ 7.
Over at NBC, “Dateline” scored a respectable 4.2/ 7 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m., leading into a 5.5/ 9 for “The Blacklist” from 9-10 p.m. While this does remain a noticeable loss from its former Monday 10 p.m. levels, “The Blacklist” is performing better in the Thursday 9 p.m. hour than anything NBC has aired there in years. And a 5.7/ 9 in the overnights for “The Blacklist” last week translated into 8.64 million viewers and a 1.8/ 6 in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data.
NBC’s “The Slap,” however, remained a complete bust at a distant third-place 2.3/ 4 at 10 p.m.
Elsewhere, veteran “Bones” on Fox returned with a fourth-place 3.9/ 6 at 8 p.m., and it led into a typically depressed 2.5/ 4 (#4) for recent entry “Backstrom” at 9 p.m. And The CW populated the evening with encore telecasts of “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Flash,” which each scored a 0.6/ 1.

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).

So GA actually b eat Scandal in HH this week.
ReplyDeleteAmazing :)
ReplyDeleteGA seems unusually high, looks like the "cheating" storyline worked. Yay, even better if it beat Scandal.
ReplyDeleteGood for grey's anatomy. I do not watch the show but I have caught the last few episodes and it is beautifully written. I wish Shonda would do the same for scandal. may I ask what was promoted on abc last night
ReplyDeletePredictions?
ReplyDeleteWow, so happy to see that even somebody who doesn't watch Grey's, finds it beautifully written. I didn't really pay attention to promos, but I remember a Cristela promo.
ReplyDeleteABC Comedy Wednesday, Fresh off the Boat, OUAT and Nashville were promoted.
ReplyDeleteVery happy for it. GA had an excellent episode. Happy ending for it too. :)
ReplyDeleteI seriously find it beautifully written. the whole way they deal with the medical "cases"
ReplyDeleteOUAT, S&L, Revenge, FOTB, DWTS, Wed Comedies
ReplyDeleteBoring! Thursday ratings aren't the same when I can't bitch over Reign getting poor ratings.
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering since I saw on twitter that they promoted revenge but I guess that is not right. thx though :)
ReplyDeleteGood for ABC for theee slight rebound
ReplyDeleteScandal finally had a good eps last night
oh yay thx :)
ReplyDeletedid it? that is nice. were there OMG moments?
ReplyDeleteCW should put Flash repeats at 8.00 so that they could make the night at least a 0.1 or 0.2 stronger. When they put Flash repeats at 9.00 it gets the same rating the show at 8.00 did.
ReplyDeleteThey did promote revenge, too and Secrets and Lies as well.
ReplyDeleteScandal was actually good for once last night. The past two episodes before last night were hard to sit through.
ReplyDeletethx :)
ReplyDeletewas it exciting last night ?
ReplyDeleteI liked it a lot. No Joke and B613 for once. Huck barely had any scenes.
ReplyDeletesounds good. any OMG moments?
ReplyDeleteThey weren't big but it was good and next week is huge going by the promos
ReplyDeletenice to hear :)
ReplyDeleteIn the next couple of weeks Flash will get double eps on Thursday, I believe. Seems like a little test drive for next season. Possible dominant male skewing Flash against dominant female skewing Shondaland. But who knows.
ReplyDeleteSally gunning for Cyrus. The only criticism about the episode I will say is that the Olivia's kidnapping flashbacks were unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine the CW actually moving The Flash, especially to force it to go up against TNF for the entire fall.
ReplyDeleteI think its suffer from 22 eps
ReplyDeleteWhat is TNF? Football? Wasn't football going only till late October? If I remember TBBT premiered on oct30 Thursday.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I think they are trying out, cause Vd isn't really working on Thursday anymore.
Looks like Bones returned to good numbers.
ReplyDeleteScandal stopped slipping, but it seems it will only return to high 2s for now. It still has some time before it gets back to 3s. And I must say, kudos to Grey's for topping Scandal with HH! No easy feat for such an old show
I expect to end the season with a 3
ReplyDeletePossibly; the numbers are still pretty darn good, but we may have finally seen Scandal's growth stopping.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like most people liked GA last night but for me Sondra jumped the shark bringing Derek back to Seattle. I watched all seasons, lasted more than my sister who dropped off 4 seasons ago, but I'm giving up on it. I just don't have patience for it anymore. It strange how when it was focused on Herman, April and Jackson, it was good writing and good plot but now that it's back on Meredith, it just doesn't seem appealing anymore.
ReplyDeleteThursday Night Football finishes airing on CBS at the end of October, yes, but it continues airing on cable throughout November as well.
ReplyDeleteDid you change your name again? ;)
ReplyDeleteI did ;)
ReplyDeleteThis one suits you better I think ;) I always thought Revenge was your favorite show more than How to Get Away with Murder from the way you speak about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm just happy Bones' HH rating went up from the 200th episode.
ReplyDeleteThe "Last Week's Final Adjusted Ratings" is showing March 5th's rating.
ReplyDeleteYeah revenge is really my favorite! Murder is definitely number 2 though. HTGAWM is brilliant and i miss it :(
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that Abc is finally promoting Revenge more and not to mention the promos are now longer. I wonder if this is a sign that this is the last season
ReplyDeleteHmmm! Cordon as a VD lead in interesting. I see Cordon as either a The 100 replacement or post Flash fall or midseason show, if it is enough action packed it could work with Flash.
ReplyDeleteThursdays could go male as I insinuated or get VD/To or even To/Vd.
As for TO I could see it getting moved to Friday and air with Reign, as I agree that CDS will air with Jane on Mondays. Royal Fridays. ^_^
I'm glad that Scandal is bouncing back creatively, these last 2 episodes I didn't find them as bad as everyone thought, but this episode was definitely better.
ReplyDeleteFixed, thanks.
ReplyDeleteAll I hoping scandal is up from last week in both ratings and viewers
ReplyDeleteI doubt Reign returns in-season, even on Fridays. If it does happen, I agree that it be for sure on Fridays but I think summer is looking more likely. A lot of people imagine Cordon as a male show but I have a hard time imagining Julie Plec writing it as such so I can't imagine it sitting well with the flash or arrow audience but maybe that's just me.
ReplyDeleteI can't see Thursdays going male because I think they will keep two male and two female nights (plus Fridays with whatever they do there) and they won't change their male nights from Tuesday and Wednesday to dodge football (and because that would require moving Arrow or Flash). So I think Thursdays is stuck being a female night.
I think it is a sign that they are trying to get viewers back. If they threw the towel they wouldn't promote it at all
ReplyDeleteLength of promos have nth to do with renewal or cancellation
ReplyDeleteExactly
ReplyDeleteYou could also change Reign for The Flash.
ReplyDeleteTrue, hopefully this weeks promo will get it back some of its old viewers. Cause the promo the looks exciting
ReplyDeleteI was just curious
ReplyDeleteI doubt GA beats Scandal in demo, but good for Greys anyways.
ReplyDeleteDecent return for Bones.
Think/hope the chances for Reign to return in fall are 50:50. I know summer is most likely, but I wouldn't survive a year long break. So let it air 8 eps during fall and 10-12 in summer. But that is a long stretch with those ratings and current storytelling.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what type of show Cordon will be I think it could skew equally male and female but depends in which direction JP will go. iZombie isn't compatible with TF either and they put it together, so we'll have to wait and see.
The thing is going with a female night against Shondaland isn't doing CW any favors especially since GA switched time slots.
I realize what you say about TGIT, but I don't think they have options. Forcing the male shows there would hurt them and would force a lot of moves in the schedule, so they have to be female by lack of options. I know iZombie isn't compatible with The Flash but it was a midseason thing. I don't think it would have landed there had it been a fall show.
ReplyDeleteI had assumed :) I have Made it to not watch the revenge promo yet
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is this week looks like a good one for sure
ReplyDeleteIt is all about risk, but I doubt it will happen either. Ur most likely right and they won't go there but these Flash Thursday reruns looks quite suspicious.
ReplyDeleteI think it is maybe a 2.6 or 2.7
ReplyDeleteI don't think so, it's just because The Flash is their best repeating show after Whose Line. They also reran Arrow on Thursday last winter.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree. Great Episode
ReplyDeleteGA-2.2
ReplyDeleteScandal-2.3
Bones-1,3
ReplyDeleteTBL-1.6
ReplyDeleteWinners: Grey's Anatomy
ReplyDeleteHonorable Mention: Bones
Losers: American Crime, The Slap, Backstorm
Grey's Anatomy is doing exceptionally well.
They haven't been that close since 2012.
ReplyDeleteWhat's happening to Scandal?
Bones-1.3
ReplyDeleteBackstrom-.9
Scandal seems to be taking a big hit
ReplyDeleteI posted a longer thing last week on Spotted ratings but the gender and age breakdowns from last week suggested that March Madness was sucking the air out of the 18-34 portion of its ratings (CBS is typically very incompetent there). I don't think it explains it all but it explains part of it. It's still a very big cause for concern though because the show should be more resilient than this.
ReplyDeleteBones preformed ok, above its last fall episodes but nothing outstanding.
ReplyDeleteScandal truly JTS with the kidnapping storyline. The payoff was awful and then to follow it up with a turnoff episode. I'll watch on streaming this summer.
ReplyDeleteDon't recall that about Arrow last winter, I'll trust your knowledge. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd the Scandal slippage continues: this is a worriesome trend. Three declines on a row. And it seemed to have bounced back from the HH - those are always tricky!
ReplyDeleteGA has the same 18-34 demo as Scandal. Holy crap.
ReplyDeleteTBL 1.6/1.5
ReplyDeleteScandal 2.3/2.2
GA- 2.2/2.2
They aired at least one rerun with it there paired with a The Originals rerun, that I remember.
ReplyDeleteGood for grey's
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist will have a major issue next fall when TNF is on IMO.
ReplyDeleteScanda drops again. I wonder if GA can actually tie or beat it in the next week.
ReplyDeletei am sure it will be good! It also aired the NFL Playoffs and Rose so anything is possible
ReplyDeleteJesus, NBC is competing with the Knicks at taking losses.
ReplyDeleteWhich show would be the best fit for 8 PM next season: Heroes Reborn or NPH Variety Show?
Grey's is doing amazingly.
ReplyDeleteBones could have been better, but that's ok for FOX standards. It doesn't have that much room to fall though
If the trend continues, then absolutely
ReplyDeleteTBL also has not been able to 'recapture' viewers through DVR. It's almost a full point down when you add in DVR now, compared to Monday L+7. NBC needs to reconsider this move. TBL is great, but with no lead-in or lead-out on a weak network, even a solid show will suffer.
ReplyDeleteIf my theory is correct, part of Scandal's decline has been caused by March Madness stealing the 18-34s from it (which the sub-demo breakdowns suggest). So I would expect it to rebound next week, not further decline. Obviously I could be way off though, it's just a theory with circumstantial evidence.
ReplyDeleteABC must be worrying about scandal
ReplyDeleteThought it might be higher without Big Bang. Could be a tough hit when that's back.
ReplyDeleteUgh, why did TBL drop two-tenths?
ReplyDeleteWith the promo for next week´s Scandal, I don´t think so...
ReplyDeleteBoth. Neither is a full season so I think both should be used there. NPH in the fall (allowing it to doge similar comedy competition The Big Bang Theory for more than half of its order) and Heroes Reborn later (allowing it to doge Thursday Night Football for it entire order).
ReplyDeleteGreys and Scandal are doing amazingly on 18-34, so they will be making plenty of money. Grey's looks much better since it has been amazingly steady, but a three week drop for Scandal is cause for concern: ABC has to start to promote it again
ReplyDeletegrey's beat scandal in viewers
ReplyDeleteMarch Madness inched up and The Blacklist has a relevant male audience so there was probably overlap in there. Which is why it doesn't bode well for next fall when it has to go up against TNF every week.
ReplyDeleteThis week has been horrible for NBC/ABC/FOX
ReplyDeleteCBS seemed the least impacted
Could be adjusted up though
ReplyDeletePeople will say "half hour have nothing to do with adjustments", which I don't think is true, so I will say it anyway: it did 1.6 | 1.5, reducing the likelihood of an adjustment (not impossible, but less likely)
ReplyDeleteAmerican crime is doing terribly. Kudos to Secrets and lies
ReplyDeleteScandal was dropping before March Madness started
ReplyDeleteAMAZING :)
ReplyDeleteYou really need to watch Secrets and Lies. I think you would like it!
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist in particular is a show that has adjusted up with those uneven half hours before, so it could go either way
ReplyDeleteDepends on how you consider things. I would argue its normal number is around a 2.9-3.0 and that the kidnaping episodes were overachieving already. So the first time it allegedly dropped to a 3.0 was simply coming back to heart. The second drop to a 2.7 could easily be attributed to DST since viewing levels fell so much and wouldn't be so far off from the usual 2.9-3.0 mark. It was the subsequent drops that were weird and those came during March Madness.
ReplyDeleteYes, it can always go either way. I just find less likely.
ReplyDeleteMy two big surprise shows (surprised how much I love them) this year are Empire and S&L. Almost didn't watch either but so glad I did!
ReplyDeleteI watched the first 3 eps but plan to binge the rest.
ReplyDeletelol Ok. It's funny that everyone is trying to find an excuse for this ratings decline. ABC said it was because the college kids were on spring break. Next it's going to be people thought it had it's season finale already.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't it just be people are not interested in this boring storytelling anymore and are just turning off?
I'm surprised by the weekly drops of Scandal
ReplyDeleteIt's quite good I think. The next episode looks particularly exciting.
ReplyDeleteI had exams so I fell behind and I just thought it would be better if I binged it when it ends.
ReplyDeleteIt only hit 1.2 once in the fall and quite a few 1.3s.
ReplyDeleteThat is possible but it's very uncommon for shows that were previously stable to experience this sort of rejection completely out of the blue, so it is normal that people look for explanations for what is happening in external factors, which is what I did. I wouldn't call it coming up with excuses. Whenever you think something strange is happening probably you want to explore other options that would explain the situations, which is what I am doing. Besides, I have looked into the subemo breakdowns (Age and gender) before saying this, I didn't make it up.
ReplyDeleteSo am I :)
ReplyDeleteI promise I will try to find the time. right now, I am going to binge watch TWD and maybe when everything is on hiatus I will watch Secrets and lies
ReplyDeleteThat was also my original plan, to binge watch it at the end, but I found myself liking it more than I though so it has been added to my, admittedly insane, weekly schedule. My pile of shows to binge later is huge though.
ReplyDeleteYes The Walking Dead, very good! In which episode are you now?

no, I'm not saying you were doing this. Just in general... (online ) people are making excuses
ReplyDeleteI envy Ur power of recollection. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI think they should premiere Heroes Reborn after The Voice premiere and them move it to Thursdays ep 2 onwards.
ReplyDeleteFYI: Today is Grey's Anatomy 10 year anniversary.
ReplyDeleteWell Unfortunately, I have only seen the pilot because i have had so much work to do, it is not even funny. As I said, it will take a while until i will have caught up. I will watch up a lot in the next week and then in the summer again. As soon as I have watched it i will inform you ;)
ReplyDeleteGood let me know how is it going ;)
ReplyDeleteOf course ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'd attribute it to also. At the surface, Scandal's ratings drop is shocking but one bad creative move can derail everything.
ReplyDeleteScandal will likely go below a 2.0 this year as social media hasn't liked anything Scandal has done recently.
2.3 for Scandal. What????
ReplyDeleteReminds me kind of like S1 ratings. Real low
Neil Patrick Harris. Heroes: Reborn will share a lot in common with fans who watch football, Neil Patrick Harris won't.
ReplyDeleteWell that should quiet any Blacklist fans that run their mouth about AoS rating
ReplyDeleteWith a 1.0 lead in, anyone who expected The Blacklist to magically hold up in the long run was betting against the odds. If 8 PM isn't watched, 9 PM won't be and so on. NBC has seen that numerous times this year.
ReplyDeleteI don't see any reason why Blacklist fans would be mocking AoS; they air on two different networks!
ReplyDeleteI honestly wish (and hope) it had done better, but with it being gone for 3 1/2 months it's bit understandable At least it went up and hopefully it'll adjust up in the finals.
ReplyDeletegood for The Blacklist. Next ep will be my death but cant wait
ReplyDeleteDo young people even watch TV anymore? 8 show's in the 18-34 demo has less than a 1 rating.
ReplyDeletenot really its by fat the most DVR'd show on the air
ReplyDeletetroll
ReplyDeletebut not demo, you do realize that its the over 49's bringing that up

ReplyDeleteYep, that's why New Girl and The Mindy Project gets great ad revenue in spite of their anemic 18-49 ratings.
ReplyDeleteGrey's and Scandal should earn around 200k per 30 second ad with these 18-34 ratings
It seems they only watch Empire and The Walking Dead live, two shows that breaks 5s (and even more) on 18-34
ReplyDeleteNot very many shows went up last night. The two of them that did? Greys Anatomy and Bones. Greys is impressive given the numerous cast changes ant the fact this show beat Scandal in HH and is near it in demo is terrific. While I also would have like Bones to go up further we should actually be grateful it went up at all given that is was off the air for 3 and half months. I was expecting it to go way down. After all the moving around this show has done it in reality is doing better than expected. FOX may well look at ratings for Bones but still even now with the Thursday move they are doing what they expect. FOX still makes lots of money off of it in syndication and unless something comes to FOX that is way better they will keep it. Unfortunately FOX is probably going to make us wait till May. I am not sure what is going on with Scandal and Blacklist. Everything else not a surprise.
ReplyDelete
