Last Week's Final Adjusted Ratings
About the Daily Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

HoD does well enough on Fridays it puzzles me how The CW didn't consider this as a summer choice.
ReplyDeleteSoft timeslot debut for Grimm, and pathetic finale numbers for Glee, albeit higher than last week
The CW deserves to be slapped or something for canning Hart of Dixie. The show held its 0.4 even post DST and it had a freaking 0.5 in A18-34. On Friday! Seriously, what the hell?
ReplyDeleteElsewhere, Last Man Standing is probably sealing its renewal and there was no spike whatsoever for Glee. As for Grimm, I hate to see it at those numbers. NBC executives are a bunch of morons. To subject the show to this dreaded timeslot while the Slap keeps airing post blacklist is just beyond idiotic
I though some previous viewers might tune in for the Glee finale and it could crack 1.0, but nope.
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad for Hart of Dixie :(.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Pedowitz has been making good decisions after good decisions but I cannot understand what is he thinking about this show.
ReplyDeleteThat is sad for glee
ReplyDeleteIts sad that some of Glees old viewers didn't even return to watch the series finale
ReplyDeleteIt is quite an irony, since glee is synonim for joy
ReplyDeletePoor Glee. Remember when it blew up the music charts?
ReplyDeleteSo, CW cancelled Hart of Dixie but renewed Reign...
Well yeah.... But all in all glee was actually a good show (season 1 through 3)
ReplyDeleteTerrible numbers for Glee.
ReplyDeleteHOD > Reign
Me neither; on top of that HoD is up year to year on a worse timeslot than last season! I honestly can't understand what was the factor that led to cancellation here
ReplyDeleteYay iZombie repeat didn't do terrible.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah it actually did really well. It beat reign's original ....LOL
ReplyDeleteAnd those were the years when it rated high and was a hit.
ReplyDeleteThat proves that viewers won't put up with quality declines; you can't work on the TV industry if you aren't willing to keep the pace for your show as it goes on
I'd say it repeated incredibly well
ReplyDeleteVery true!
ReplyDeleteThey don't need more episodes for syndication?
ReplyDeleteLast Man Standing is the unsung hero of ABC Fridays; while Shark Tank takes the spotlight, LMS is holding the fort as primetime starts
ReplyDeleteWhy won't ABC move Shark Tank to 8 and use it as a lead-in for the comedy block?
ReplyDeleteShocked that Grimm cracked 1.0. I'm sure was helped by SD DVR Frim ppl like me. If NBC wants 2hour Dateline move Grimm to 10 or Thursday at 10 - that slot is wide open now.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't really matter though. Because more episodes would still increase whatever package it has gotten but, more importantly, the numbers it is pulling should be good enough for renewal, even without syndication factor.
ReplyDeleteClearly I am wrong though since this is not what happened, but I am not sure where the flaw is in my logic.
8 PM is a lower viewed hour.
ReplyDeleteViewers tastes have changed. Nowadays a show would have to lightening quick fast pace, in order to succeed.
ReplyDeleteBut even if they don't the ratings are quite well for Fridays, and strong enough for a summer run. They can get even more episodes for a better syndication deal while having a decent runner on the summer
ReplyDeleteHere are the 1/2 hr breakdowns

This week's A18-34 ratings for the CW:
ReplyDelete- The Flash: 1.2
- Arrow/ The Vampire Diaries: 0.7
- iZombie: 0.6
- The Originals/Jane the Virgin/Hart of Dixie/Supernatural: 0.5
- Reign: 0.3
The fact that they canned Hart of Dixie while it is airing on a Friday with these numbers is frankly nauseating.
Rumor is Rachel wants to be a stay at home.Plus,it's not like HoDs ratings are very much better than Reigns. Also,HoD has enough episodes for short syndication & a proper ending ,Reign dosent/won't.HoD is creatively at the end of the line adding in babies anyway. They expected this to be the last season for zhoD anyway as it was written as one and back in OCT Wilson. & Scott tweeted farewell.Caw also seems to support Reign despite its ratings. It was a sign when HoD didn't get renewed with the others or that Reign,Jane,The 100 were renewed instead if it that it was unlikely to be renewed, especially with Wilson joined a new show.HoD only got this season for syndication & to wrap up.
ReplyDeleteIt got the exact same ratings when they aired it at 8 a few weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, but I argue that's more for newer audiences. Those who follow a show for year want 2 things:
ReplyDelete-Keep doing what it does best.
-Keep feeling fresh.
As long as the show manages to do that the audiences will keep following it. The ratings can increase if the pace picks up and there's enough buzz - like Scandal did on season 2 -, but you can keep your initial audience as long as you keep delivering what you promised them when the show started
Their must be something going on behind the scenes which we don't know about.
ReplyDeleteShark Tank aired at 8 PM a week ago or so and did as well as it did at 9. They could use it next season as comedy lead in
ReplyDeleteHoD tied on that demo with SPN and The Originals? And got canned?
ReplyDeleteThis is truly nonesense
I think that it's really important for a new show to do those 2 things, while they are building an audience.
ReplyDeleteBehind the scene drama is the only reason I can come up for the show getting canned. Looking at these ratings, which are up year to year, the cancellation makes no sense at all
ReplyDeleteYes. I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteDVR isn't factored into ratings
ReplyDeleteButit's ratings aren't better than Reigns and Evrn the raw realitive ratings aren't good( 0.4-0.5& it did get 0.3 once this season& it's the second lowest rated show on Czw)& they need room on the schedule and rumor is Rachel wants to be a stay at home mom. Wilson joined a new show, this was always planned to be the end despite what Pedowitz said-Wison joined a new show,it was written as a final season,Scottt & Wilson tweeted farewell in OCT?I don't why everyone's suprised the second lowest rated show on a network with enough episodes for short syndication is cancelled especially since there's little room for it and new shows,CW was always going to cancel a couple shows this seasons.
ReplyDeleteI think there is something else going on here. While we aren't privy to all the behind the scenes drama, I think we would have heard some sort of rumor if that was the case. I think there is a different financial model governing the CW nowadays and one none of us understand yet
ReplyDeleteI find it not so funny that a Friday repeat of iZombie did better than a Thurs original of Reign. I wonder if a network has ever "un-renewed" a show before.
ReplyDeleteDecent for HoD.Poor Glee, didnt rise like expected for the series finale
ReplyDeleteChecking both here and at TVBTN, Supernatural got .6 as a final rating.
ReplyDeleteThese are 18-34.
ReplyDeleteCW was never going to renew literally EVERY-they were always going to cancel at least three shows
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the pecking order then. I will have to do some analysis of what they are doing to try to understand the rationale behind what they've been doing.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand how they cancelled Hart Of Dixie but renewed Beauty & The Beast??? B&TB ratings were really bad last year and this season it's not going to be different! The only Dramedy show on the CW is JTV and the only reason why they renewed it it's because the actress won the Golden Globe... Anyways THECW is now a SCIFI/ZOMBIE/VAMPIRE network now...... I wouldnt be suprise if they cancel JTV next year....(i'm still a fan of JTV i'm just saying...)
ReplyDeleteOnly for extreme circunstances, such as the horses dying on Luck and the showrunners not wanting to move forward.
ReplyDeleteBut a show that has been renewed can't be unrenewed on normal circunstances; if it was possible, FOX would have ended Glee last season. Instead, they did damage control and trimmed this season's order
Maybe that was a test run for next season, but if ABC doesn't put at at 8 when the announce the schedule in May, that would be another stupid decision. Maybe the should try it out at another week but these time with the comedy block leading out of it to see if it has any effect whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteIf so, I honestly hope The 100 is doing well on that model so that we get many seasons of it
ReplyDeleteBatB is a huge international seller HoD isn't.HoD has a proper ending & enough episodes for short syndication BatB dosent.BatB is a cheap international co production HoD isn't,Rumor is Rachel wants to be a stay at home mom.HoDs ratings aren't that good anyway,it's the second lowest rated cw show.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Pedowitz decided to cancel it because it was getting wrapped up creatively.
ReplyDeleteWhile not the best desicion from a business standpoint, it gave him the chance to renew other shows (like Reign), who he felt needed another season to tell its stories.
I personally love both Reign and Hart of Dixie, so while having both renewed would have been ideal, if it was one or the other, there really was no pleasing me XD
I forgot about the early renewal of Glee. I don't see how the CW justifies Reign honestly. Then again, I still call BS on BatB too, so I'll just sit back with my favorites and enjoy the roller coaster.
ReplyDeleteI'd be glad Glee was over if Empire wasn't taking it's place :/
ReplyDeleteIf Reign doesn't go to Fridays, it's going to be shipped to summers, but it can't stay on Thursdays as it is
ReplyDeletehod beat tvd from last week in viewers lol
ReplyDeleteIn a way, that's what Empire did; while I didn't particularly liked it, people felt it kept feeling fresh each week and that it was delivering great OMG moments on the weekly basis.
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too. I will try to investigate what is this new model in the meantime lol, because clearly something is going on there that we do not understand.
ReplyDeleteGlad for steady HoD ratings, just don't get the 0,5 0,5 and than 0,4 final ratings. But ratings are a different universe of logic.
ReplyDeleteBixe for iZombie to pull a 0,4. Thumbs up for it.
Wilson's new show is just a 10 part miniseries. Confirmed by multiple cast members that that is all it is. There must be something behind the scenes which is fine but the fact is the CW still isn't saying its the series finale while the cast and crew have all said it basically and many are looking for new jobs. So while I am sad about the cancellation, it is fine but the fact is the CW is refusing to announce it for some weird reason when every one knows is pathetic on their part and I have lost so much respect for them. They could be advertising next week as a series finale and it seems from the promo that it is fitting. It just makes no sense why the CW is not saying anything when they clearly know its done. And frankly they can't use ratings as an excuse because while it is one of the lowest ratings, it airs on a friday and that makes a difference. So I hope when they announce it, they don't use the crappy ratings excuse.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like predicting CW decisions will become as hard as predicting cable.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like now shows can't even tell a story properly anymore, cause people now expect OMG moments all throughout an episode. I for one don't mind if the pace is slow as long as its not boring.
ReplyDeletePerhaps 18-34 is not the subsection they were looking at. Maybe they are worried about the affiliates and need to get alll the shows without syndication numbers to that level while still adding something fresh to entice the affiliates. Maybe contracts became an issue. Maybe Hart of Dixie didn't do well in their online deals. There is a lot about the CW and how it makes decisions that we do not know. My guess is that it all comes down to the affiliates.
ReplyDeleteWorth mentioning that iZombie repeat quite well.
ReplyDeleteHoD did better than Reign and it's on a Friday
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't go that far. For all the talk about summer, we have yet to see it happening for the most part. I am still able to understand Beauty and the Beast's renewal last year and I didn't think any of the renewals they gave this year were that surprising or inexplicable. It's just the HoD cancellation that messes up with me. We'll know more when we understand how serious the conversation about summer is at the upfronts.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I think these are the important principles to keep in mind:
- they don't syndicate their shows in the traditional sense, so 88 threshold is irrelevant. Instead, they sell them to Netflix, which probably entails a) a certain number of episodes which is lower than the 88 but higher than the 44 and b) an ending for the show.
- the relative importance of this deal far outweighs the relative importance of first air ratings.
This is what I expected to be the big news of the day. That and the fact that a repeat of iZombie did as well as a new HoD and on the same night.
ReplyDeleteI watch the show super casually, but this is so true! It holds down the fort for ABC on Fridays and absolutelly deserves the praise for it.
ReplyDeleteYeah I posted in a comment below that I think there is clearly a different financial model going on at the CW, so I agree with your general idea that there is more to it than it meets the eye.
ReplyDeleteI know HoD is doing well now but we are lucky that HoD got a 4th closing season. Last year it hit 0,2s and a bunch of 0,3. It's airing now on fridays with poor competition and not far to compare it.
ReplyDeleteThe quality of the show is once again good but they clearly did a crowd pleaser seaaon.
I feel the thing with HoD is it probably doesn't have a lot of international appeal... which all the other shows that got renewed do...
ReplyDeleteReign was on the top of the list for cancellation.
ReplyDeleteHOD airs on Friday and it's the 4th season.
ReplyDeleteReign? Haha, what a bad example!!
ReplyDeleteblah blah... BATB is a huge international seller only for its desperate fans.
ReplyDeleteYes but so was HoD,getting same ratings as Reign.Czw never cancels a show at 44 episodes so Reign was safe.HoD was desyined to be cancelled due to hsvinga proper enfing $& enough episodes for syndication and not enough room and the fact CW ends/csncels at least one retuning vetran show a season.
ReplyDeleteGood for Grimm. I wish I was higher. I really hope NBC doesn't keep it at 8 next season. They should have put it Thursdays at 10 after The Blacklist.
ReplyDeleteOne factor could be if Rachel Bilson have decided to focus on motherhood over acting for now since she just gave birth recently. I know shows have found ways around to accomodate an actress' maternity leave just like what Grey's Anatomy did with Ellen Pompeo but it still falls to the willingness of the actress herself, and in Rachel's case, her being the show's central lead, to see whether or not she would continue with the show.
ReplyDeleteCW always end/cancels one vetran show or two a season, this time it was HoD.It was only given a fourth sesson to wrap up & get to syndication.CW never cared sbout Hozd anyway and dosent even include it in the genreal network tv now promos. This was clearly intened to be the last season from the get go( hence Wilson joining a new show,Scott &Wilson tweeting goidby back in OCzt,it being eritten as a final season ect).
ReplyDeleteI gave that as an example because it's the show that is being compared to HoD ratings wise. Most people are questioning why they would renew Reign while cancelling HoD. The rest of the shows rate higher than Hart of Dixie so there is no controversy there.
ReplyDeleteStill, when a lead ona "bubble" show joins a new show,98% of the time, the bubble shows getting csncelled and they know it.I agree,Czw knew from the begining this would be the end snd should have announved jt as duch, confirmed cancsllstion. But they need to ssve some cancellation/renewal annkuncements for May upfronts.
ReplyDeleteThose numbers look kinda inflated. I wonder was the CW preempted cause even HOD went up in viewers in second half.
ReplyDeleteIbjust think creativly and emotional they reached their final stage and that is why CW canceled it eventually, at least from my pov. There were no more stories left to tell and it will conclude with an beautiful hour next week, I hope.
ReplyDeleteiZombie rose in the second half hour!! :))) Is it weird, if I hope that a rerun adjusts up??
ReplyDeleteSo, if iZombie (R) can get a 0.4 and 0.5 in the half hours, so it's safe to assume, that The Messengers could premiere with a 0.5, even though hoping for a 0.6 or 0.7!
ReplyDeleteIf they keep promoting The Messengers over the next month, for sure! The iZombie repeat did really well for a Friday. Hopefully next week's original iZombie holds? (an increase would be great, too!)
ReplyDeleteWilson joined a ten episodes show and they tweeted goodbye "in case". If it was the end for sure, MP's speech is cleary different.
ReplyDeleteI think you're dreaming a lot, The Messengers hasn't Hart of Dixie's help and it's in APRIL. Probably 0.4/0.3, like Cult...
ReplyDeleteI'd be shocked if it got those numbers, at least for the premiere. I'm expecting a 0.6
ReplyDeleteAs if Hart of Dixie would be helping, iZombie isn't even compatible with Hart of Dixie! And Lead-Ins don't work for the CW anyway, and even though it would, The Messengers has WLLIA season premiere as a lead-in, which is likely to get a 0.5-0.7!
ReplyDeleteI think they knew then that HoD was over that's why he joined a new show & tweeted farewell
ReplyDeleteBatB international sales cover its production costs and it sirs in more than 20-30 countries ,HoD only five or so.I didn't say BatB ratings were good cause they're not but either are HoDs or Reigns.
ReplyDeleteDosent matter.Czw has to cancel some show and second lowest rated on CW is still second lowest rated and in danger of cancellation.
ReplyDeleteThe Messengers is already getting a lot of promotion IMO, I hope/think that The CW is trying to fix Fridays with The Messengers. My dream is a 0.7 for it! But here's my prediction:
ReplyDelete8 Cedric's barber battle - 0.4/0.5
8.30 WLLIA - 0.5/0.6
9 The Messengers 0.5/0.6
And it'd be awesome, if iZombie would rise, but I doubt it. I just hope it stabilizes around 0.7's.
Again, I think you're dreaming a lot. Let's wait for april... Considering that the last new show which displayed on friday, a.k.a Cult, has 0.2
ReplyDeleteI think you're just really pessimistic! And WLLIA getting 0.5-0.7's isn't dreaming, since last season it was getting a lot of 0.6's, and CW shows are doing better Fridays than last season.
ReplyDeleteExcstky,I think they saw last springs ratings and decided to unofficially end it this season. We are lucky to get four seasons & a proper ending considering its ratings from the beging have never been great. And it was never promoted by CW
ReplyDeleteHoD has always done well online.CW is a joint venture so it dosent matter who produces, distrubes, owns the shows as both studios-WB & CBS- share profits from each show
ReplyDeleteI heard there was preemptions Thurs -hence Reigns adjustment down-and Fri
ReplyDeleteThey did pair Jsne/HoD once on Mon for HoDs season four premire,Janes season Midseason finale
ReplyDeleteYeah, once doesn't cut it...
ReplyDeleteYou're incorrect about Czw not dyndicating thier shows in the traditional sense.
ReplyDeleteEveryone hates Chris,Girlfriends,All if zuS,Verinica Mars,Gilmore Girls,7 th HeavenSPN,SMV all were or are syndicated.Nikita,Reaper,Secret Cricle, zgosdip zgirl,90210 of Czw original shows were or are currently syndicated too in the traditional sense,
Well even if it is or not, I also hope.
ReplyDeleteYep the show struggled through out it's run. And truth to be told the show really has no real competition in its timeslot. If it once again would go up against DWTS or Voice or even Scandal it would bounce back to much lower ratings.
ReplyDeleteIn which channels are Nikita, The Secret Circle (After one season only?), Gossip Girl and 90210 airing as part of a traditional syndication package? It's not a rhetorical question, I have simply never read anything about it.
ReplyDeleteYes but so was HoD.Czw never cancels a show with 44 episodes in two seasons so Reign was gonna be renewed
ReplyDeleteNikita airs on a pivot in the US.Gossip Girl was on Dtyle in the auS( before the channel went under and changed),Secret Circle was on Chiller in the US a couple different times-in a package deal with Buffy-& 90210 started airing in Jan on POP in the US,Reaper was /is on FearNet in the US.tvbythenumbers mentioned Gzg s syndication deal the spring of its it's fifth season, but the other I've found mupyself on tv & heard from others and seen online news about.
ReplyDeleteWhere exactly does BatB do well? I'm not trying to sound like a dick, I just genuinely want to know. Here in the UK it's not even a blip on anyones radar.
ReplyDeleteYeah well, with HoD only having 10 episodes & Jane 22 ,it wouldn't worked and HoDs ratings weren't good so it was never moving off Fri & Jane a critical darling/Gzg winner was never moving to Fri this season so they couldn't .Plus, they had enough other unscripted shows on Fr tonit have room for the pairing.
ReplyDeleteGo it's Wiki and you'll see the countries it airs in.It does esoecially in Europe,France,Italy
ReplyDeleteI know... they seemed to want to give JtV a fighting chance so they paired it with TO (which is a total mismatch but did show faith in JtV and I guess it did pay off) whereas they were holding HoD for midseason and a Friday burn-off.
ReplyDeleteMy argument is: in an ideal world they would have debuted them together on the same night as a cute female led comedy block. (Also in this ideal world of mine HoD would have probably gotten a full or a bit of a longer season).
All I was trying to say is that, going back to last spring, when the JtV pickup was announced,
the logical deduction was "well that's a companion show for HoD".
Everybody complaining about HoD being cancelled even tho it has good ratings. There has to be a reason, i am pretty sure they have problems with cast. I mean 2 leading ladies have new born babies and actor who plays Wade is playing regular role on another show. Don't blame The CW if you don't know the reason for sure. I mean, i love the show, it is increadibly original, but we have 4 seasons and promised a proper ending, so i am OK with it ending
ReplyDeleteSupposedly it's because BATB was pre-sold for 3 seasons internationally. That's how the network head for the channel that aired BATB in India knew they were getting Season 3, they had already bought the rights for it.
ReplyDeleteA new show of ten episodes. And no, they didn't knew.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information! For real.
ReplyDeleteWelcome!
ReplyDeletePeople always say that but I've never seen any proof and looking at past CW decisions, it definitely seems to be that CBS produced and/or distributed productions seem to be less likely to be cut if they are marginal than WB produced and/or distributed productions. It seems clear that whoever it is distributed by and the company that originally produced it (if it is not truly co-produced) does factor in their decision making. I don't think Reign would have gotten picked up much less kept on Thursday and thus renewed last season if it wasn't on the CBS side.
ReplyDeleteGlee was over WAY before Empire even aired.
ReplyDeleteYh, I was thinking more when it was popular, but since it fell it's still been lurking around.
ReplyDeleteYou are not by yourself. All I've heard is "international sales" and I roll my eyes. I think the CW got ahead of themselves by selling 3 seasons and would lose more money to cancel than than to renew. They spin it by claiming it does well internationally. A lot of shows do but they don't get renewed in the US with those ratings.
ReplyDeleteIt got renewecearlyvladt season cause it's cheap international co-production,did well in DVr,online ,in social media and was the fifth highest rated show at the time of the early renewal & doing better than TztP,HoD,BatB,CD,Nikita,.CW most Likley decided to keep it Thurs because Vzd was declining and they are tired of failing to launch new hits after it.Spiltting profits & exspenses between studios/companies is the very definition of co-productions,joint venture ,
ReplyDeleteGrimm steady with last episode. Shouldnt even be at 8pm. Small uptick in viewers as well.
ReplyDeleteIn Italy? I'm Italian and I don't even know when it airs... It's certainly not doing great here. I don't care because I've never watched it, but I doubt Italy is one of the reasons it got renewed...
ReplyDeleteYep Italy
ReplyDeleteAs for Dixie doing well online,Deadlne & Oedowitz have both said time & again,it's one of the reasons it kept getting renewd
ReplyDeleteI know, but it's still not that great. Grimm needs to pick up a few tenths so it can help carry the night next season; it does the job for NBC, but this used to be Friday's number one show alongside/behind only Shark Tank. I honestly think the show should be doing 1.3s regularly now
ReplyDeleteand Hart of Dixie rose in the second halves... Gosh CW I don't get you
ReplyDeleteI agree. American Crime is excellent. it is slow but not boring. The captivating performances hold my attention.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't get why everyone's shocked HoDs cancelled-the signs were there all along, only thing missing was CW confirming a week ago or back in OCzt or announcing it /promoting it as the final season in last May.signs:Scott & Wilson tweeted goodbyes back in Oct. Wilson joined a new show.Jamie announced she was expecting again. They said the finale would work as a satisfying series finale & introducing a Zoe 2.0 character .The last two episode titles screamed the end(End of Days,BlueBell).Leila said " 76 episodes of writting these particular love stories is enough".Its ratings weren't that good,it's the second lowest rated show on CW.It only got this fourth season for wrapping up& syndication. This season was short( yes partially due to Rachel's pregnancy but short seasons are usually final season,).When it wasnt included with the other early renewals,it mean less space for more renewals so it was unlikely to be renewed and it also meant CW had chosen to renew other low rated/mid rated shows(Jane,Reign,The 100) instead of it ,so again low chance of still getting renewed.
ReplyDeleteIt's also not as big internationally as The 100/Reign/JTV. In fact I've heard The 100 is the highest rated show on its network in the UK.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I meant to include that.Did I say Reign did better internationally than HoD?
ReplyDeleteI don't think so, but it definitely does;)
ReplyDeleteIt was preempted in Chicago for a Bulls game and didn't air until Sunday.
ReplyDeleteI disagree that there are no more stories to tell. I think there are plenty of stories they could still cover when you think about Zoe and Wade as new parents (not to mention at some point they would need to move off the plantation to have their own house where they actually have a kitchen), Lemon and Lavon newly married, whatever is going to happen with George and Annabeth, Brick and Shelby, Zoe and Lemon's new found friendship, etc, there are still stories, at least for a good writing team. I don't know if there are 22 episode worth of stories but I think there are certainly 10-12 episodes worth for another short season, which they could announce as the final season from the beginning. I will say, and have been saying for several weeks now, I think LG tied up too many things in these 10 episodes though. It looks like Wade and Zoe do get married and I wish she had just had them get engaged. I think most fans would have been satisfied seeing them engaged, with their baby, at the end. Then if they had gotten a final season the wedding planning would have been another potential story line. If it hadn't been renewed it would have still been ok.
ReplyDeleteI think next week will be great but from a story telling standpoint I don't think they should be done.
People need to stop using Wilson's "new show" as one of the excuses for cancellation. The show is a limited series that is only 10 episodes long (and always was planned that way) and is going to air this spring or summer, that had nothing to do with anything. He was able to do that show because HOD had a short season this year and was done filming by early October, that's it.
ReplyDeleteThe other arguments could be true. There have been rumors that Rachel wants to take time off to stay at home with her baby. If that is what happened and the CW was considering renewing (probably for next summer) but she just didn't want to do it, I can respect that, I just wish they would admit that's what it was (unlikely I know since it would kind of be throwing her under the bus and some irrational people would blame her). Moving it to the summer, where they have said they want more original programming instead of reruns, makes sense for a show like this. It doesn't take up room on the all important fall schedule, it has the right feel for the summer, and has a loyal audience that has already followed it from one time slot to the next (it has aired in a different time slot every season and was moved in the middle of the year last year).
People are "surprised", I think disappointed is a better word actually, because Pedowitz gave us hope. If they were "always going to cancel" it, if it was "always going to be the last season" they should have admitted that from the beginning. Instead, they left it up in the air. Then fans see shows like BatB and Reign get renewed, with equal or lower ratings (I understand more goes into the decisions then just flat out ratings numbers but Pedowitz did say "We'll have to see how the ratings are" before HOD started). And finally, they are still promoting it as the Season (not Series) finale, that's why people are upset and annoyed. Honestly, I'm a little surprised you can't see why people are disappointed.
I do see why people aredissapointed & I agree that CW should've said from the beginning it was the last season but I'm some people are genuinely suprised it's cancelled & as I said, the signs were there from the start despite what Pedowitz said.Yes,they are still promoting the finale as season finale cause networks very rarely promote a finale of a show that's very Likley to be cancelled as series finale( they did the same with Star-Crossed,Carrie,TTzp despite the terrible ratings ect) unless its been previously announced as a final season by the network.
