The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

NOTE: The opinions expressed here are NOT those of SpoilerTV but of the Author of this Article, Marc Berman.

    Sunday 3/15/15 Metered Markets
    Clean Sweep for CBS

    Household
    Rating/Share
    CBS 6.7/11
    ABC 3.5/ 6
    NBC 2.9/ 5
    Fox 2.1/ 4

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Oscar Evening – Sunday 3/16/14:
CBS: + 3, Fox: -22, ABC and NBC: -29 each

    ———-

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence. Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

-Solid in Total Viewers, but Older Skewing:
“60 Minutes” (CBS), “Madam Secretary” (CBS), “The Good Wife” (CBS)

    -Disappointing:
    “Secrets & Lies” (ABC)

    -Losers (excluding repeats):
    “Revenge” (ABC), “Battle Creek” (CBS)

    ———-

    Ratings Breakdown:
It was no contest in the Sunday overnights with CBS besting distant No. 2 ABC by 91 percent in households. The Eye net opened with granddaddy “60 Minutes” at an 8.1 rating/15 share from 7-8 p.m., which was the top-rated show of the evening. And it led into “”Madam Secretary” (#1: 7.7/12), “The Good Wife” (#1: 6.4/10) and episode three of failing “Battle Creek” (#1: 4.6/ 8) from 8-11 p.m., which was consistent from one week earlier but down significantly from year-ago occupant “The Mentalist.” Comparably, overnight retention for “Battle Creek” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Good Wife” (6.4/10) was 72 percent. Three week overnight track for “Battle Creek”: 4.8/ 8 – 4.4/ 8 – 4.5/ 8.

While CBS will resonate in total viewers from 7-10 p.m., the ongoing obstacle is the lack of interest in the younger demographics.

In week three news on ABC, drama “Secrets & Lies” built by a minor three percent from lead-in “Once Upon a Time” (#2: 3.6/ 6 at 8 p.m.) with a 3.7/ 6 (#2) at 9 p.m. But the similar overnight performance last week translated into a 2.1 rating/7 share in adults 18-49 for ”Once Upon a Time” versus a 1.4/ 4 for “Secrets & Lies.” And episode two of year-ago Sunday 9 p.m. occupant “Resurrection” (which ultimately fizzled this season) was considerably stronger at a 7.0/10 in the overnights. While not a bust, “Secrets & Lies,” to-date, remains a disappointment. Three week overnight track for “Secrets & Lies”: 4.0/ 6 – 4.0/ 6 – 3.7/ 6.

Airing out of “Secrets & Lies” was tired “Revenge” at a 3.2/ 5 in the overnights at 10 p.m., which was 24 percent below the 4.2/ 7 one year earlier. It is time for the axe to officially swing on “Revenge.”

Earlier in the evening on the alphabet net was veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a second-place 2.5/ 6 at 7 p.m., which should be enough to beat competing “60 Minutes” in the key young adult demos.

On Fox, week three (and episode four) of live action comedy “The Last Man on Earth” dipped by one-tenth of a rating point (or four percent) from one week earlier with a 2.6/ 4 (#4) at 9:30 p.m. (out of a 2.5/ 4 for “Family Guy”). And the 2.7/ 4 in the overnights last week translated into a 1.9/ 5 in adults 18-49 (out of a 2.1/ 6 for “Family Guy”), so the jury is still out. If “The Last Man on Earth” can level off now, Fox may still have something.

Earlier in the evening on Fox was a repeat of “The Simpsons” (#4: 1.7/ 3), “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 1.5/ 3), the original installment of “The Simpsons” (#4: 2.4/ 4) and sophomore “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4) from 7-9 p.m., which were all close to week-ago levels.

NBC capped off this third Sunday in March with another two-hour encore airing of “The Voice” (2.4/ 4 from 7-9 p.m.), followed by two-hours of “Dateline” at a 3.3/ 5 from 9-11 p. m., which was 37 percent above the 3.3/ 5 one week earlier.
